Set against the '50s Stalinist architecture of Moscow State University, Jean Michel Jarre's Oxygene Moscow concert celebrated in September 1997 the 850th anniversary of the founding of Moscow. Witnessed by over 3.5 million Russians and unspoiled by rain or fog, this concert remains one of Jarre's finest works. The 60-minute concert video includes a dedication to Princess Diana, who had died the week before, a magnesium waterfall during "Oxygene 13," and a live linkup with the Mir space station crew. The highlight comes from "Oxygene 12," a brilliantly edited mix of projections, fireworks, and an onstage film. Jarre's typical stage outfit is present: the laser harp, fireworks, projections, sky trackers, and his own brand of electronic music.

Also included is an hour-long, making-of documentary Making the Steamroller Fly, which features interviews with Jarre and his "tribe" discussing the music and the concerts. For fans this is a chance to see footage of Jarre's earlier concerts in Paris, China, Houston, and Lyon as well as insights into a 20-year history of electronic music and mega-concerts. --Colin Neal, Amazon.co.uk

This show is fantastic" You will see JMJ using his old keyboards" Along with the new technology of the Laser Harp! Have you ever seen JMJ in a stunning performance" Playing Oxygene 10, uses this 'keyboard' in a very special way. In a word: Jean Michel Jarre is better than ever" Give this dvd 5 + stars" Featuring The Ex- Red Army Choir,Bolshoi Kids Choir,Young Bolshoi Dancers.5.1 Dolby Digital Surround" An unique event that can never again be replicated" 113 Minutes Long'A treasure to own"

3 out of 5 stars Moscow????.......Paris For Tolerance is Best!!.......2006-02-08

I bought this DVD back in May 2000, and it became the first one in my actual collection. I have to say that i am a SUPER FAN of JMJ since 1981 when i listened to a "Oxigene" Dreyfuss Tape, but this DVD doesn't capture the real essence and excitement of a JMJ concert...That's why i give it 3 stars, just for the music, not for the production. Hey, Mr. Jarre, Where's the "Concert for Tolerance", I have it on a VHS tape, i recorded from HBO back in 1996...This is the BEST CONCERT EVER!!...I Know it is available only in Laserdisc and in PAL system!!

3 out of 5 stars Right...........2003-10-18

I have the complete concert recorded, and even though the sound quality is poor (had to remaster it many times), the concert was superb.

Now for this DVD... what we have here is edited concert, what could be also explained with the word 'Oxygene'. For example, we have about 6 minutes of Rendez-Vous 2, and in the concert a 9-minute edit was played. Since the DVD is Oxygen in Moscow, they have scrapped f.ex. 'Ethnicolor', 'Equinoxe 7' and 'Equinoxe 4', and even more is missing. And many of the other tracks are edited, and like previous reviewer said, the sounds don't sync.

Like previous reviewer also said, the laser harp seems like it hasn't no sensor or no trigger. During the concert, the laser harp was mailfunctioning a little (some notes sounded strange), so it wasn't really fake. But in this DVD, IT SEEMS LIKE ONE!

First I would have given 5 stars to this DVD. Like it first seemed to be. Good music and great performance (althought I would like to see something else than the players since this is a Jarre-concert...). But I take one star out because many of the songs were left out or then edited (excerpt of Chronologie 6 in the end doesn't make me feel better...). Again one star out for not bothering synchronising the drums/laser harp/etc. One star out for not having any extras (like the better Brazilian edition). So 2 stars for the DVD. But I'll add 1 star for the DVD because of 'Making the Steamroller Fly'-document. It is great to view for people who don't know a rats arse about Jarre, nice document.

And this is the only Jarre DVD that exists, what is very sad to me. I would like to see 'Paris La Defense', 'Destination Docklands' etc. via DVD. But then again, we could have the edits of the concerts. However, as this is the only Jarre DVD, it is very nice bonus to Jarre-collection. But it has it's flaws...

1 out of 5 stars Couldn't even watch it..........2003-07-15

I realized in the first song that for some reason the DVD doesn't include most of the live audio. The "live" trombones aren't heard, the "live" chorus sounds suspiciously synthesized, the "live" drums don't synch with what the drummer is playing... I assume the producers burned the DVD with the reference tracks the performers were listening to in their earpieces during the concert, so it synchs, but it sounds like a studio recording.

Then when Jarre starts playing the "laser organ" it becomes apparent that they're just lasers ... no sensors, no musical instrument attached.

So generally, I think it's a studio recording with some live talking and cheering mixed in, and a lot of staging that doesn't translate very well to video. After the first two songs I watched the rest of it on 5x and 10x fast forward.
