Julian Bream takes the viewer on a wonderous journey through the history of the guitar in Spain. I still watch this series over and over again.

julian is great but picture looks very old because this film was recorded in eightees.Everything else is good, travelling through the spain also.

Julian Bream is undoubtedly one of the very greatest guitarists of the 20th century and almost certainly the greatest musician to play the guitar. But this film is a dreary, nearly unwatchable exercise. Bream is not at his best doing commentary, which manages to be at the same time both pompous and shallow. He is also hard to watch in close-up because of the extreme effort involved in his way of playing. But the long, tiresome and pointless excursions in the Spanish scenery are even worse. And all too often, commentary of some sort is uttered above a musical performance.

The DVD ends with a performance of the Concierto de Aranjuez of Joaquin Rodrigo that merely demonstrates that Bream is NOT an outstanding concerto performer.

Unfortunate that such a great artist as Julian Bream should be remembered by this badly-done film.

This is a great documentary and showcase for the talent of Julian Bream . He proves himself a master at playing a number of different musical styles and has the advantage of visual settings that complement the music so well . The program is also an advertisement for Spain itself .

There is a separate narration which gives background on the composers and the country . Mr Bream also speaks about the above topics .

The main point to be made against the program is the average quality of the film used - I suppose seeing as it was made in 1985 one can't expect too much - the picture is very soft looking . The sound is not terribly great but it doesn't detract too much from the music .

Do not let these comments put you off purchasing the disc - it is after all over 3 hours of music .
I would highly recommend any classical guitar fans , or fans of travel documentaries , purchase this disc .

In general I liked, mainly from the part of the classic guitar from now on since am not fanatic of the Baroque music. I would have liked more the scenes were focused more in Julian Bream playing the guitar instead of landscapes, cities and people.
Something that I didn't like was that several songs are interrupted by comments.
I think that is beautiful for somebody to who it likes the guitar.
One of the things that I like of Julian Bream is that it's seen that when he plays the guitar, he feels the music.
