Amazon.com
An epic in length and breadth, this documentary aims at nothing less than a full-scale portrait of the most dominant institution on the planet Earth in our lifetime--a phenomenon all the more remarkable, if not downright frightening, when you consider that the corporation as we know it has been around for only about 150 years. It used to be that corporations were, by definition, short-lived and finite in agenda. If a town needed a bridge built, a corporation was set up to finance and complete the project; when the bridge was an accomplished fact, the corporation ceased to be. Then came the 19th-century robber barons, and the courts were prevailed upon to define corporations not as get-the-job-done mechanisms but as persons under the 14th Amendment with full civil rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness (i.e., power and profit)--ad infinitum.
The Corporation defines this endlessly mutating life-form in exhaustive detail, measuring the many ways it has not only come to dominate but to deform our reality. The movie performs a running psychoanalysis of this entity with the characteristics of a prototypical psychopath: a callous unconcern for the feelings and safety of others, an incapacity to experience guilt, an ingrained habit of lying for profit, etc. We are swept away on a demented odyssey through an altered cosmos, in which artificial chemicals are created for profit and incidentally contribute to a cancer epidemic; in which the folks who brought us Agent Orange devise a milk-increasing drug for a world in which there is already a glut of milk; in which an American computer company leased its systems to the Nazis--and serviced them on a monthly basis--so that the Holocaust could go forward as an orderly process.
The movie goes on too long, circles too many points obsessively and redundantly, and risks preaching-to-the-choir reductiveness by calling on the usual talking-head suspects--Noam Chomsky, Howard Zinn, Michael Moore. And except for an endlessly receding tracking shot in an infinite patents archive, there's scarcely an image worth recalling. Still, it maps the new reality. This is our world--welcome to it. --Richard T. Jameson

Fairly Representing Corporate Employees and Executives.......2007-07-04
A few things I'll never forget:
1. Never, ever drink milk unless it's organic. www.foxbghsuit.com/
Until, that is, our FDA decides to act conscientiously and ban the use of Bovine Growth Hormone as Europe and Canada have already done. The FDA won't do this until "the People" get angry about the issue and ask them to do so. We haven't gotten angry about it enough because people who don't seek out independent media sources haven't heard much about the adverse health effects. Contrary to popular belief, the United States doesn't have free press - a fundamental function of a well operating democracy. Fox "News" - a source of information and entertainment (infotainment) for many - bribed their journalists who'd done an investigative report on BGH and its distributors. FOX refused to air the story after BGH manufacturers, Monsantos, threatened to sue. FOX withheld vital information from the public in order to maintain good relations with its corporate buddies.
2. A LLC - limited liability corporation - is considered a person under our law, with rights and responsibilities as we do. However, the responsibilities only extend so far. Corporations are amoral and have essentially one function - to make profit. It is the only biding principle. They are required by law to make profit for their shareholders. Scary when you think about the implications.
3. How do you become more profitable - EXTERNALITIES. Put the loss on someone else. Make someone else pay so our profit margin increases. A prime example of an externality is the outsourcing of labor to another country. The externalities in this case would be 1) Financial and other loss invoked on local labor force who has been laid off and 2) Financial and other loss invoked on cheap labor force who is getting paid far less than what they should. Another example of this is seen in the privatized military corporations such as Blackwater that have placed undue financial burden on government. When one of their mercenary soldiers dies, the soldier's family is eligible for up to $4,000/month in compensation. That's our tax dollars paying for corporate soldier who made ten times as our soldiers and whose allegiance was paid to a corporation only who profited immensely from their death. Read Jeremy Scahill's Blackwater for more on that issue. Blackwater: The Rise of the World's Most Powerful Mercenary Army
4. IBM profited substantially from the Nazi machine. Individuals in the company knew it all along. You'll see.
BOVINE GROWTH HORMONE is giving us CANCER.......2007-06-29
BGH means no dairy product sold in USA is safe: not the cheap cheese I got on sale, not the Buttoni tortellini also on sale, not the 2 for 1 sour cream not the neufchatel cheese for rugelach and not the butter! There goes my baking, my homemade ice cream and my quick cheese fix. Aaargh!!!
Canada and Europe continue to ban BGH.
Rupert Murdoch's Fox looks pure creep in this and Michael Moore is sympathetic.
A Truly Chilling New Reality .......2007-06-08
The Corporation throws light on the rule of the few. With cameos from Michael Moore and Noam Chomsky. If this film does not move you to action.......
5 Star Content.......2007-05-29
The information in this DVD should be seen by everyone. I give the DVD 4 stars, however, because the direction and production could use some improvement. It's a bit slow.
Important Film.......2007-05-17
This film is one of the most important documentaries I've ever seen. It does an excellent job of informing us of what has warped our way of life that makes it so hard for us to be an independent people and a nation. Forget politics! Find out about the true power...Corporations.

made for a ten year old.......2007-06-06
This movie is good if you're looking for a non-violent movie. It seems like it must've been a saterday morning cartoon. It was Ok, only aimed at a younger audience.
Always Dungeons e Dragons.......2007-05-14
Dungeons e Dragons is one of the best series!! Too bad is over.....
Great show, terrible quality.......2007-05-07
When I saw the complete series of Dungeons and Dragons cartoon in one box set I just had to buy it. I've returned it twice so far. The first time the booklet fell apart. The second time, there was skipping on disk 4 with bad image quality. Looking at the disk, there were some scratches on it. I don't know how this passed quality control. Do they have quality control? Amazon can keep sending me replacements until it is done right. This is terrible.
The complains I've read so far about the DVDs not being digitally remastered and the music being changed from what it was on TV seem accurate. This set is a disappointment.
DIGITALLY REMASTERED WTF???????????????????????.......2007-05-02
2 stars for 'quality' 1 extra star for the bonus features.
I live in the UK & own both the US & UK versions of this DVD Set. You might ask why on earth somebody would pay two lots of money for the same item, what can I say? i'm a completist & was swayed to buy the US version which has far better extras & accompanying literature than the UK release.
After watching both versions I can honesty tell you that no digital remastering has been done whatsoever to the US release. I constantly switched discs & I was alarmed to see & hear, poor audio, wobbly telecine (where the image wobbles during a still scene), scratches & washed out colours. The UK version although not 100% perfect has virtually none of these flaws. I think you've all been conned by the distributor that has falsely advertised the episodes as 'digitally remastered'.
One more thing, another reviewer has already mentioned that the 'chaotic, rushing' incidental music is missing from several epiodes. I have noticed this too, I don't think the US distributor had purchased the rights to the music, however the same music is present in the episodes on the UK release.
Nostalgic Tears!!!.......2007-05-01
Yes it's true folks. I just discoverd today that this cartoon had finally been put on dvd. And I'm not ashamed to admit I almost cried. Because cartoons like this one takes me back to a time and place when life was good and Saturday mornings was something to look forward to. I just loved this series and I waited for so long for it to be put on dvd. I wish someone would go back into the video archives and bring back all the toons of the 80's. Do you guys remember Spider-man and his amazing friends, Muppet Babies,The Get-Along Gang, He-man, The Gobots, Heithcliff, Teen Wolf, Alvin and The Chipmunks, Oh! man let me stop cause I'm tearing up again. Saturday mornings was the bomb back then. Now it just come and goes barely noticable. The cartoons today can't touch these classics. A lot of them are just plain dumb. But thanks to modern technology we can relive those days even if it's only for a moment. We may not be able to go back to our childhood physically. But thank God we can pop in a dvd and let our memories do the rest. I can't wait to add this to my collection!!

Freedom from oppression and the power of Love - what more can you ask for?.......2007-07-03
As an adult who dislikes both anime and Techno music, I was vastly surprised by Interstella 5555. I viewed the first few videos on a popular video-sharing website, almost by accident. By the time I got through with installment 4 ["Digital Love"], I was completely and totally HOOKED. "OMG he CRASHED, oh no!... what now?!" One of the things that sets this DVD apart is how much and how quickly it makes you care about the characters. When was the last time you cared what happened to a character in a music video? I was doomed; I simply had to find out what happened, not to mention I wanted to see it in a more appropriate format, so I bought my own copy.
This saga of a kidnapped alien pop/rock band and the fan trying desperately to rescue them, no matter the cost to himself is a beautifully-done DVD with images that you will not quickly forget, people you will love and music that will stay in your head for days - if not weeks, and in this case, that is a positive thing. I think "brilliant" is not too strong a word for this project... and remember, that's coming from someone who has always hated anime. Highly recommended.
Awesome Movie (whether you're a fan or not).......2007-06-27
This movie rocks. It's basically an animated movie, somewhat in the American style of Anime (but not Animation, i.e. cartoons). The unique point is the fact the whole movie is pretty much synced up with Daft Punk's Discovery album which in itself is pretty awesome. There are no voices, the whole story tells itself visually and with the music. I love it, I've watched it many times myself, and my children who are 10 months, 3, and 4 (boy, girl, boy) also love it, whenever I play it on my pc or tv, my kids come running, they stop screaming, stop running around, stop hitting each other, and will just stand or sit, pretty much memorized and watch the entire movie that way. There are just so many vibrant colors and the music again, is great.
Moving.......2007-06-24
As a fan of both Anime and Daft Punk this item is just about as good as it gets. At first it seems like a beautiful way to present a musical album, a nice screensaver as it were. However after watching this a few times and really embracing the story and relating the scenes to the lyrics or melody, Interstella 5555 becomes quite a moving experience. You will travel through a range of emotions with each song, uplifted and happy with "One More Time" to quiet and emotional with "Something About Us". My favourite track is "Face To Face", and it always tugs at my heart-strings towards the end.
Beautiful picture. I rate it alongside "The Castle of Cagliostro" as my all time favourite Anime films.
Just what you should expect...that's a good thing.......2007-06-24
The movie is basically just a backdrop to the album 'Discovery' from Daft Punk. More specifically it would be imagining the reversal of creating a soundtrack around a movie, and instead creating a movie around an album. It is an interesting concept, and it works very well in this instance.
If you are a fan of Daft Punk it is a bit of a no-brainer...if however you are looking for a deep tranquil film concerning the problems of today's society mired in soul searching agony...well keep looking. This is entertainment!
great movie.......2007-06-11
For lovers of Daft Punk... great story, very good manga, perfect design, all matches very nice!!!

More than the just show........2007-04-12
Of course, it's important to love the series in order to even think of purchasing the box set, but the actual presentation of the box set matters just as much. Fortunately, the She-RA Volume 1 box set is absolutely gorgeous, I've never seen such a well done box set before. Each disc has its very own unique cover (for example, one disc will have the upper body of She-RA, Glimmer, or Hordak, and so on) with a matching back cover for each disc mount, and the artwork is high quality.
Special features last for hours and the extras such as scripts and special edition cards are the little things that aren't necessary, but very nice to have. And the episodes aren't just listed, each have their own little preview clip. As you can probably guess, this is a rather hefty box set, but the spine artwork is lovely, so it's worth leaving out. It also serves as a great reminder that, yes, the rest of the series will be released on DVD.
The only flaw (and I find this to be a major one) is the episode chapter selections. Each episode has two chapter selections, so if you just want to skip the opening credits and get right to the action, you can-- but you'll also miss half the episode.
HE-MAN'S SISTER!.......2007-03-09
The show is good but the dvd is bad in a few ways. There is staic in betreen each epersode and one of the epersodes dosn't even show. I sent it back to get a repacement and that one had the same prubums. I then sent it back to get a refund. I guess they all are defected.
Defender of the Crystal Palace.......2007-02-18
Ahhh yes, Sh-Ra. I barely remember running around my house as a youngster whenever the transformation scene played. I thought it would be fun to check out She-Ra again when the best-of disc came out and again I ws hooked...hence this purchase. The plots are funny, and the characters very cute. Gotta love Bo's costume ;)My boyfriend even likes watching, mainly thanks to Glim ;p
Basically it's a great kid's show. No severe violence, such as death or blood. Most foils of evil involve some form of spinning or trap. Those who do get hurt don't bruise, so it would be important to expalin to a youngster how unrealistic it is (but there are flying horses so it's kinda a given).
There is some minor violence so I wouldn't show this to anyone under 4 or 5. But other than that it's cute, and more fanciful than He-Man. It involves moralistic stories about what the "right thing" to do is (i.e. don't lie, don't steal etc). The chicks are drawn reeally well, as my boi would point out, and the other characters are funny imho.
I would definately suggest this title to those who love She-Ra, and those who are new to the series. The quality is great, and the special features were cool.
(o.0)V
There's a little bit of She-ra and He-man in all of us.......2007-01-24
This box set is absolutely fabulous! The packaging and designs are beautiful. The shows are just as imaginative, exciting, and fun-to-watch as they were when I was a pre-tween. I especially liked the storywriters commentaries about the development of Etheria, the characters, and the differences with Eternia.
When I was young I loved the story, characters, and artwork. Now as an adult, I can fully appreciate the social and political commentaries that permeate each episode (government corruption, team-work, fighting for ones values, negotiations over violence, love, respect, kindness, and wisdom).
It seems, many years after the shows ended, that we all can still find a little bit of these heros and heroines in all of us. Can't wait for the Volume 2 to be released!
Thank you so much for releasing these timeless classics in such a beautiful manner.
For The Honor Of Greyskull!.......2007-01-22
Finally I can see it for the first time in English and all the episodes.
She-Ra is a female heroine with a great power and lots of lessons for all of us, young and not so young. I am from Mexico and previously I had not been able to watch most episodes, but I have been obssesed with She-Ra most of my life. When I was 12 I claimed in my local video rental store to have lost the video of the Secret of the Sword, then two years ago I found in Amazon.com the VHS version.
My delight in discovering that the series was to be released on DVD knew no bounds, I purchase the 10 best episodes last summer and then discovered He-Man.org and found out about the special variant of the Secret of the Sword and bought it.
I used to watch the series with my little brother and we used to play at being She-Ra and He-Man.
It is a fantastic tale of a young woman who discovers her destiny in wielding a great power for the protection of others. Before she can wield the Sword of Protection and become She-Ra she must overcome a spell tat has made her subservient to the Evil Horde.
When she and He-Man contact the Sorceress of Greyskull and she shows them as infants in their mother's arms I cried too.
When the movie was over my brother and I used to hugh and go play together.
For me She-Ra is the tale of a heroine that showed me to be nice to other people and to appreciate my brother, I can't imagine not having had someone to play with.
The fact that after 20 years I still love every minute of it doesn't bother me, I'm still a little girl at heart who loves cartoons, heroines and especially princess heroines.
Thanks to BCI for reviving my shildhood dreams!
Hurra for The Princess of Power!!!

For those Japanese sci-fi fans whose appetites were whetted by the previous DVD set of Ultraman's adventures, Series One, Volume 2 presents the remaining episodes of the '60s space giant's battles against a horde of villainous (and improbable-looking) monsters. The brainchild of special effects legend Eiji Tsuburaya (who created the monsters for many of Japan's movie creatures, including Godzilla), Ultraman was a popular children's series on both sides of the Pacific (and around the world) and spawned numerous sequels and imitators in its country of origin. The plot of each episode revolved around the Science Patrol, a small group of dedicated scientist/soldiers who fought a ceaseless parade of giant monsters that threatened Japan. Thanks to a chance encounter with an alien, one of the Patrol's members had the ability to transform into the colossal silver-and-red-suited Ultraman and aid the Patrol in dispatching the troublesome beasts. Volume 2 essentially follows this structure in all 19 episodes presented on its three discs, with several of the series' most popular monsters (dinosaur Gomora, the bizarre humanoid Dada, birdlike Dorako, and the excitable and well-liked Pigmon) making their first or return appearances in these episodes. The action is frantic and fun, and should please younger first time viewers as much as the older Ultra-fans.
The previous Ultraman disc set (Series One, Volume One) received flak in fan circles due to audio and video problems, and while the image quality in this set seems improved over the previous entry, the audio problems do persist to a degree (specifically, the English language tracks "drop out" during certain scenes and are replaced by a subtitled Japanese track). The impact of this issue will undoubtedly vary from buyer to buyer, but there's no denying that at their core, the shows remain enjoyable, no matter the state of the audio tracks. A multi-page insert booklet is included in the set, which presents interviews with several of the original Japanese cast members, while a pair of trading cards with action scenes from the show and a monster gallery featurette are all welcome and fun extras. --Paul Gaita

What a joy!.......2007-07-06
It's great to be able to watch these shows again! I lived in Japan in the mid-to late 60's and obviously watched Ultraman then along with all the other great Japanese TV shows of the time. I never thought I would be able to see Ultraman again-but even at 45+ I still enjoy watching them. Yes I suppose I'm going through a second childhood--but who care I'm going to enjoy every minute of this boxed set!! Highly recommended to kids today-even with all their high tech distractions kids really seem to like this show.
Ultra memories.......2007-05-24
Watched "Ultraman" in Charleston, SC as a little boy on the "Happy Raine" show. 30+ years later I still like the show, has much self-effacing humor. My little boy loves it.
Ultra-cool, Ultra-fun - ULTRAMAN!.......2007-03-08
I really didn't get to see ULTRAMAN that often when I was a young child in the early '70's, but I still have very fond memories. I especially remember seeing ULTRAMAN gazing upward just before leaping into flight (Suwatch!!). I also remember him crossing his arms and then blasting his enemies with a laser which shot out of his hand. For a 5 or 6 year-old kid, that was really awesome! Recently I purchased ULTRAMAN Series 1, Volume 1 and Volume 2, and let me tell you, even after 30 years I enjoyed it from beginning to end. Sure, there were a few dud episodes, but overall it was excellent. It was great to watch the entire original ULTRAMAN series all the way through and fill in the chinks that my childhood had missed. Some of my favorite episodes were those with the Baltan (great villain). The series was very original and creative at the time and I believe, after watching the entire series, that ULTRAMAN is a better giant character and has better enemies than GODZILLA. A+ Highly recommended!
Ultraman - Series One, Vol. 2 by Corinne Orr, Peggy Lobbin, Peter Fernandez.......2007-01-22
Good movie, amazon should should sell all ultraman hero series
Suwatch! We love Ultraman!.......2007-01-19
I loved it when I was a kid and now my kids love it, too! Hayata is brave and handsome. My little girls all want to marry him. Ito is funny and silly. Aroshi is a great sharp-shooter. Fuji is smart and nice. Captain Mura is always in control. We laugh when it occasionally lapses into Japanese for no apparent reason. We gasp when Ultraman's light starts flashing. It's just as good as I remember it.
I only have one complaint: if you put the captions on, it sometimes translates into some bad words. The actors aren't saying any cuss words, but it will show them on the screen! So, if your kids aren't reading yet, it won't matter. But if they are you might want to turn off those captions!

More funny than really scary........2007-05-03
Before I moved to South Korea, the only Asian movies I ever saw were mostly Kung Fu flicks so I was never interested in watching any Asian films. Since living here in S. Korea, I have been introduced to some very well made movies by very talented directors and screen writers. The movie is not very nice towrds the US military but I don't really care about that even though we are Navy stationed here. K-horror and J-horror films are much more phsycological thrillers than gory which is why I liked it. I don't care too much for gory slasher flicks. The ending isn't what you would expect.
3 1/2 - Monster is Interesting, but "Host" Gets Bogged Down with America Bashing.......2007-05-01
***1/2
South Korea's highest grossing film of all time "The Host", a new monster film, takes this genre to levels unknown previously with films like "Godzilla" and "The Blob". It represents a significant advancement in the technology and a lesser advancement in narrative.
Seoul, 2000. An American army doctor (Scott Wilson) orders his assistant, a native South Korean, to dump bottles and bottles of formaldehyde into the drain, a drain running into the Han River, the major river running through the middle of Seoul. The reason? The bottles are covered with a layer of dust and the army doctor really dislikes dust. The assistant protests, but soon relents. Six years later, a food cart operator, Gang-Du (Kang-ho Song) falls asleep every time his dad, Hie-bong (Hie-Bong Byeon) is away from the stand for more than a few minutes. Soon, his daughter, Hyun-Seo (Ah-sung Ko) returns from school and they watch his sister compete in an archery tournament on television. Father and daughter are more like friends; Gang-du even seems to be a bit mentally challenged, like he is at the same level of maturity as his daughter. Then a monster appears in the river and starts to attack the people lounging by the side of the river. Gang-du and Hyun-Seo are chased by the beast and Dad tries valiantly to save his daughter, but the beast soon captures her and drags her away. Nam-Joo (Du-na Bae), the sister, returns from the tournament and they are joined by their brother, Nam-il (Hae-il Park), a young businessman annoyed at the distraction. They receive a call from the daughter's cell phone and try to rescue her, fighting the local authorities, the police, the US Army (?) and ultimately, against the large monster.
Directed by Joon-ho Bong, the rights to "The Host" have already been purchased for an American remake, and it is easy to see why. The film's monster elements are well-done, interesting and exciting. But the film suffers from a few uneven performances and some heavy handed political statements which ultimately slow down the proceedings.
From what I understand, the initial event is based on an actual event. The Korean government attempted to prosecute the guilty American, but the US wouldn't hand over the man in question. According to IMDB, he was finally convicted in 2005, but didn't serve a prison term. I always believe that a fantasy, science fiction, horror film, anything that is not normally something we would experience is more believable, has roots in reality. "Pan's Labyrinth" is a great recent example of this; the fantasy world was rooted in the very real world of Spain during the last days of the Civil War. These elements of reality help us associate the more fantastical elements of these stories, making us more willing to accept them. While watching the film, I didn't know that something like this actually happened, but I believed it, because it was convincingly done and seemed like something that could happen.
The monster, created by a special effects studio in San Francisco, is a very unusual thing. Part fish, part eel, part guppy and part frog, multiplied by a thousand (the suckers big and looks like a large "Alien"), the Monster initially appears hanging from underneath a bridge. People notice the thing and, curious, move closer to get a look. Then it drops into the water and swims towards the people. Moments later, attack.
The first time the Monster runs rampant is exciting and fun to watch. The beast moves fast and wreaks havoc on a small leisure area, where people are lounging in the sun next to the river. Naturally, Gang-du and his family will be in the center of the action, they are our entry into this world. The monster chases people back and forth, takes a few, but Gang-du tries to elude the beast, tries to keep his daughter safe.
The monster is fearsome, and dangerous, making it a little scary. Because it is fast, this adds to the suspense. You never know when or where it will pop up. It also appears to be smart and has a voracious appetite, adding to the scariness of the beast. When it grabs Hyun-Seo, the drama increases because Gang-du naturally fears his daughter is dead, then they receive a cryptic phone message indicating she might still be alive. The family bands together and starts to hunt for her. This leads the individual characters on `hero's journeys' of their own, until they have to come together and work together to fight the beast.
As the family comes together, and gets separated, during their battle with the monster, they face various obstacles. Many of these are also presented in a fairly realistic fashion, adding to the heightened level of suspense. Each is tested, some with frightening results.
The film is less successful as a political statement against the involvement of the US Government in this country and in this incident. As soon as the animal runs rampant, it attacks a US Citizen who is vacationing. Then the news is filled with stories of a virus the man contracted through the monster. Soon, the US Army has quarantined people, hunting for others who have come into contact with the beast, closing off entire areas and plans to use a chemical called "Agent Yellow", not a very thinly veiled attempt to make a statement against Agent Orange. This is done in a rather sloppy fashion, and not fully integrated into the rest of the story. This brings the rest of the film down. In the big confrontation between the beast and `Agent Yellow', the Army intends to dispense the chemical using a large yellow plastic ball on the end of a crane, which shoots the chemical in a large plume. Hopefully, their targeting system is much more accurate than the contraption looks, it resembles a large tinker toy. Of course, the chemical doesn't have the intended effect and there are many shots of indigenous South Koreans suffering at the hands of the nasty American chemical.
These scenes are really more of a distraction, not necessary and detract from the overall quality of the rest of the film. The monster is a neat, unique creation which is scary, threatening and fun to watch. But when the film gets bogged down with all of the politics, it loses focus.
I didn't really get what Kang-ho Song was trying to do as Gang-du. Initially, we see he is lazy and more interested in cutting corners than helping to make a success out of the family's food van, very antithetical to the South Korean way of life. But when his daughter shows up, I initially thought he was an older, less intelligent brother. He seems to want to have this type of relationship with his daughter, but he really seems more mentally challenged than anything else. This is clearly done to make his actions throughout the rest of the film appear all the more heroic, but his portrayal is initially inconsistent.
During the last act, when the family has to come together again to defeat the creature, the film shifts again, delivering on the premise of the earlier story.
"The Host" is a good film, which benefits greatly from advanced special effects and suspenseful storytelling, but it suffers from an almost sophomoric attempt to make a political statement, slowing down the pace of the story, and interrupting the flow of horror, suspense and excitement.
I wonder if the American remake will have some sort of reference to terrorists trying to take over the water supply of St. Louis and they inadvertently create this beast who roams through the upper Mississippi river.

Match Game memories.......2007-07-05
Watched the show when I was 13 or so, loved it then. Love it now.
A Lot of Fun.......2007-07-02
We bought this and watched episodes every night for 4 weeks. It was great. I had forgotten about many of those actors. They really need to do more of these with the Newlywed Game and Hollywood squares.
Okay Collection, But Not Enough Nostalgia.......2007-05-08
I wish that this collection had had more nostalgic episodes besides the pilot episode of Match Game 73, like the New Year's Eve-Happy New Year's episodes of Match Game 73, 74, 75, 76, 77,& 78 because those were so exciting, and the last episode of Match Game 79. Showing the collection that way from beginning to end would be more convenient.
"The Best Of Match Game" DVD .......2007-04-11
I just opened my DVD set for "Match Game" yesterday, and was very satisfied with what I've seen so far. Since GSN doesn't seem to respect game show announcer's works anymore, the first thing I did was to go through all of the ticket plugs and departing contestant gift tags that the late, great Johnny Olson did so well for "Match Game", "The Price Is Right", and many other game shows in the past.
My only complaint is that there should have been more variety in the episodes (as in not two episodes of the same panelists, and also more CBS daytime episodes from 1974 thru 1976.) I also wish that they had the last "Match Game PM" ep, as well as the first one, and that they showed the first daytime syndicated ep in 1979, along with the ad that started it. I just LOVED Brett Somers' interviews about the show, but they should have had some of the show's other stars comment on the show who are still alive (i.e. Betty White, Charles Nelson Reilly*, and Marcia Wallace for example.) Besides that, a perfect memory of my childhood years!
* depending on who you believe, Charles may (or may not) be gravely ill, which would explain his absence from this compilation.
Great concept package, but a lot of misses.......2007-04-10
I am SO GLAD this was finally released as it is one of the better early gameshows that had staying power. What a fantastic panel of celebrities and impromptu comedy. Get it just for the walk down memory lane.
Now for the bad:
1. Bad Disc 4!! I am in the process of returning my first set for this reason.
2. Episodes should have been chronological and not all mixed up. You could really tell when the game started to pick up steam, but then you get thrown back to the 73-75 era which was just so-so.
3. They could have picked better episodes, in my opinion. Some of the episodes could NOT have been the "best" of the Match Game. I remember screaming out loud in laughter at some of the episodes and they are not on this set.
All in all, it's a great set. I'm not sure if they rushed this or what, but it could have been a masterpiece.

Three months before the much-publicized theatrical release of United 93, the same true-life tragedy was faithfully dramatized in Flight 93, an equally praiseworthy TV movie that was originally broadcast on the A&E network on January 30, 2006. The fourth plane to be hijacked on September 11th, 2001 - and the only plane that didn't reach its intended terrorist target - is the riveting subject of this film, which unfolds in real-time (similar but not identical to United 93), beginning with the terrorists' preparations and boarding of the ill-fated flight. We then follow the notorious events as they unfold, and from that moment on, it's nearly impossible to take your eyes off the screen. The intense drama focuses on the passengers who ultimately thwarted the terrorists - they include Tom Burnett (Jeffrey Nordling), Todd Beamer (Brennan Elliot), and Mark Bingham (Ty Olsson) - but as their counter-attack plans are being made, the action also reveals the chaotic nature of the ground response, from the White House bunker (where Vice President Cheney was moved for security) to Offices of the Federal Aviation Agency, Verizon headquarters (where in-flight calls were monitored), and United Airlines flight control, where pilots and terrorists alike could be heard throughout the terrible ordeal of the hijacking.
To his credit, director Peter Markle steers clear from any sense of exploitation (it helps that there was a five-year gap between the 9/11 tragedy and this respectable film); furthermore, both Markle and screenwriter Nevin Schreiner avoid the pitfalls of melodrama by keeping the action rooted in the facts as we know them. Speculation is necessary for some of the dramatic details, but Flight 93 benefits from a well-chosen cast of unknowns, which enhances our belief in them as ordinary citizens under extraordinary circumstances. As you might expect, several scenes are inherently unforgettable (up to and including the now heroic phrase "Let's roll!" as the counter-attack begins), and the authentically played emotions are further intensified by realistic special effects by Gary Gutierrez, who performed similarly laudable duties on The Right Stuff 23 years earlier, at the start of his visual effects career. Produced with the cooperation of surviving family members of those who perished on Flight 93, this well-made TV film handles difficult material with grace under pressure, and that alone serves as an admirable tribute to those brave passengers who gave their lives so that others could be saved. --Jeff Shannon

The Most Intense Film I Have Ever Seen.......2007-04-25
I never intended to ever watch this film. I tried to avoid it like the plague. However, last night, by some mistake, it caught up to me. As I was surfing with my remote through the cable channels I stumbled upon Flight 93. I missed the first ten minutes of it (which I hate doing by the way) and had no intention of watching this movie and reliving that horrific day. However, something kept me from touching my remote. Something kept me glued to the screen and no matter how much I kept wanting, sometimes NEEDING to turn the channel, I couldn't. To say this film is intense is as gross of an understatement as say... Tiger Woods is a good golfer and/or Vincent Van Gogh was a hec of a painter.
I want to thank who ever produced this movie and only made it about an hour and a half long. I don't know if I could have survived another half hour! My heart was racing throughout the entire film. I also found myself crying quite a bit as well. THIS NEVER HAPPENS TO ME! (well, except maybe when Old Yeller died and also during the movie "Brian's Song" but hell didn't everybody?). I don't recall if the acting was that great. I forget because I don't honestly feel it was about the actors at all (they were not pros but they all did a commendable job for the most part). My thanks again to the producers for not turning this into one of those garish HOLLYWeird big production numbers starring Tom Hanks (megastar male), Julia Roberts (megastar female), Jamie Foxx (token black hero), Sir Anthony Hopkins (old, ornery, military guy), Alec Baldwin (isn't he in every movie nowadays?), Owen Wilson (see Alec Baldwin), Reese Witherspoon (to draw in those oh so tough females between 25-40), etc... etc... And of course we ALL know who the director would be, who else but Steven Spielberg! PLEEEEEEEEASE!!!! Well, folks, this is a movie in which somebody finally got it right. This movie is about one chapter of that horrible day and having a cast of nobody's was absolutely the perfect thing to do. Do we really know for sure what happened that day? Of course not, nor will we ever just like the mysteries regarding the JFK assissination. This film does it's best to paint as honest and realistic portrayal of what transpired that day without getting too political, preachy, and idealistic like so many of its ilk do.
This film was excellent and I can safely say I will NEVER watch it again. Once is enough! However, that being said, I very highly recommend this movie. I know that kind of sounds insane but trust me it's definitely worth seeing. It is extremely absorbing, and no matter what your views are regarding 9-11 you would have to be one cold-hearted SOB if this didn't hit you right in the gut and put a lump in your throat. Remember to have plenty of tissue paper on hand because this redefines the word tear-jerker.
A real sad thing is the fact that all through the movie I kept reminding myself 'this is only a movie', 'this is only a movie' however, for some reason, this mantra just didn't work like it usually does with the other absorbing, heart-breaking films I see. Hmmmm..... Go figure!
I don't know about the rest of you out there but I hope Hollywood, due to the success of this film and the other one with Nick Cage, doesn't start making a ton of 9-11 movies now or I am going to have to call one of those Canadian pharmacies and start ordering tons of Prozac, Valium, etc...
I promise you won't forget it.
Great account of Flight 93.......2007-04-03
Well they were doing it twenty years before this, so why it was such a shock that a bunch of losers like these angry muz-lims did what they did is beyond me. Obviously it is all America's fault because we buy the oil or sumthin. So yeah, a story very scary and just impacting, you know? Seeing the wives talk to their husbands one last time is tough to see. To know that it was because a bunch of ignorant idiots who wanted to see Allah sooner than later caused it, is even more maddening. Oh don't profile no no no we would not want those moz-lim males who obviously do not even hold day jobs suddenly coming to an airport near you. I hope they all explode in fire and go to Allah just so they can learn he is really a white trash car mechanic who has nothing to offer them but the ho across the street. EVen then they dont deserve it, you know? I mean, c'mon, lets stop trying to sugarcoat it all and face facts. the fact is we are at war, and it started the day that this plane crashed in Pennsylvania. Filming is great because the actors are not like, you know, c'mon, like Baldwin or Sheen or whatever. These are regular Joes and they do a great job making it authentic.
Flight 93: The Movie.......2007-03-29
Such a great movie, I am astounded so many people haven't seen this. A great work of art. By far the best movie on 9/11. Have purchased a number of dvds of this movie to share and the all recipients were very moved. If you enjoy movies, this is one you must see.
Smoke and Mirrors.......2007-02-12
Slick theatrical reproduction of the official storyline of Flight 93. Does not address the fact that cell phones ( at that time) do not work above 2000 ft. altitude and the plane was far above that when the first calls supposedly came in. One of the callers called his mother and used his last name. Who does that when they call their mother? He also asked, " Don't you believe it's me?" Most telling smoking gun briefly glossed over in this film is the fact that the crash site was a crater about 30 ft. in diameter and 10 ft. deep with small pieces of light aluminum scattered around. No engines, tail section, wings, seats, bodies, luggage, nothing you would find at commercial airliner crash site no matter what the angle of impact. The first responders said, " There's no airplane here, let's look in the woods for it." The plane was never found in the woods or anywhere else. Americans need to wake the freak up before it's too late. Our country is being stolen from us. Robert J.
Just missed being great.......2007-01-22
Flight 93 does many things right. It provides a believable cast (good guys and bad guys) without any star power getting in the way. It keeps conjecture about what happened onboard to a minimum, in that most of the dialog is with people on the ground whom can verify what was actually said. That level of authenticity is appreciated.
However, the film has two flaws, one minor, and one major. The first flaw the film's concentration on the emotions of the passengers and loved ones on the ground. I would have preferred more action and passenger plotting, even at the risk of more conjecture.
The second flaw, and the one that removes the film from contention for five-star status, is that it does not take us with the passengers in their final moments of resolve, terror and courage as they try to wrest the plane from the control of the fanatics, only to have the plane driven into the ground. Instead, we only see the plane from a farmer's perspective, on the ground looking into the sky. This seems an uncharacteristic moment of cowardice on the part of the filmmakers, to have taken us so far on this flight with the passengers with whom we feel emotional connection, admiration and even love, but not let us fully participate in their horrible, tragic end. The film forces us to abandon them at the moments when we most should have been with them.

The Little Mermaid - Based on Hans Christian Andersen's Classic Tale (UAV Corporation).......2007-06-01
My sister found this one and it was a trip down memory lane. The storyline is true to the original fairytale. The graphics are very clear and if you have ever watched The Last Unicorn, you will know what I mean.
The storyline itself requires a kind heart. Marina's songs are soft and hard to hear and the dolphin gets annoying at times with his cries. However, if you have children, they will absolutely love this movie.
If you're a Little Mermaid Disney fan, you might be disappointed, by this simple storyline. This one is for the kids of the eighties.
The Anime Version.......2007-05-18
As all the reviewers have said, this version of "The Little Mermaid" is not some cheesy cartoon. This is the 70's anime version that is based more on the original story then the happy Disney version. The mermaid's name is Marina and her dolphin friend is Fritz. It was great to finally find this movie on DVD. However, I had one problem with it. When the movie first came out, there was some nudity, though it was nothing serious. The mermaids are bra-less. However, in this DVD version, some of the movie appears choppy because they have edited out parts of certain scenes. Having watched the movie about 1000 times when I was a kid, I remember certain scenes to be longer. However, they only cut about 5 total minutes out of the movie and it is still the great animated film that I remember. To summarize: Movie - 5 stars, DVD version - 4 stars
A Little More Effort Please.......2007-04-23
I'm a 27 year old entering that period of nostalgia wherein I begin to desire the things I haven't seen since my youth. Yet time and again my elation at discovering a beloved tale long lost is squelched by disappointment in the cover art. The Secret of Nimh, The Last Unicorn... And this one for The Little Mermaid is the worst yet; it doesn't even _remotely_ resemble the film's protagonist.
Which is particularly absurd because the movie is not for the young audiences the cover is clearly targeted at. At least not for them, only. This version is more true to the tragedy of the original story and does not have the jolly happy end that the cover implies.
The fact that it doesn't appear to include the original Japanese language track cements my decision not to purchase this version. It will be worth the effort to buy an import and play it on my regionless player.
the original story in anime style.......2007-03-25
This is the one I've been looking for on DVD, the one that ends sadly. The picture quality has not been re-mastered for the DVD format; it's the exact same quality that I have on VHS. A few minor scenes were deleted so some transitions are slightly jumpy compared to VHS. But Marina and Fritz are as good as I remember, and the quality is watchable for the cheap price.
Dark Little Mermaid.......2007-03-24
I'm very happy with my order, this was the version I've been looking for! Disc was in great shape, looked new.
