Originally broadcast on CBS in March 2002, 9/11 is an extraordinary record of that fateful day in New York City. This one-of-a-kind documentary was originally conceived as a portrait of 21-year-old Tony Benetatos, a firefighter trainee at Manhattan's Duane Street firehouse, located seven blocks from the World Trade Center. By the time filming was finished, brothers Jules and Gedeon Naudet had captured history in the making, including the only image of the first jetliner striking Tower 1, and the only footage from within the tower as it collapsed. This is not, however, a film about the murderous nightmare of terrorism. It's the ultimate rite-of-passage drama, more immediate and meaningful than any fiction film could be, with Benetatos and his supportive colleagues emerging as heroes of the first order. Sensitively narrated by codirector and fellow firefighter James Hanlon, 9/11 will endure forever as a tribute to those, living and dead, who witnessed hell on that sunny Tuesday morning. --Jeff Shannon

5 out of 5 stars A Must See for Every American.......2007-05-29

I make it a point to show this to everyone I can, because we need to remember what happened and to what lengths the enemy will go to destroy us. The video is well done and, as others have mentioned, they brothers do not show many things they could have that would have been horrific to see. My wife and I have have visited ground zero twice in the last two years, and I still find it hard to believe that the tower I once stood on top of years ago is now gone. The courage of these brave men who rushed to the scene and then started climbing the stairs with over 60 pounds of equipment on their backs blows me away.

5 out of 5 stars Not to Forget.......2007-05-23

A terrible film, not terrible in the sense of badly done, but one in which one's soul cannot rest after the viewing. I have no desire to watch the dramatizations of 9/11, nor the endless line of psuedo-documentaries about it. This one, however, probably because the French filmmakers were inadvertantly sucked up into the day's unexpected events, plays out in a heartrending fashion that is also real. The filmmakers and director made a conscious effort not to focus on gore but on humanity, and to remain focused on their particular firehouse, and the film is stronger for this.

It's been a couple years since I saw a rented copy of this movie. I'm now thinking, under the principle of not forgetting, it is time to buy it, a thought which scared me earlier. Not to buy lightly, but to know something for sure, without political overlay or spin. It was a terribly human day, that amazingly sunny balmy day back in 2001. As they say, I and thousands and millions remember that day clear as a bell. This film is not melodramatic, but as sincere as a filmic telling can get.

5 out of 5 stars Very moving, this movie helps me to never forget........2007-05-13

This is an awesome, moving film. It truely helps me to feel as though I was there with these men on that horrible day. It helps me to appriciate all that these firefighters did for those trapped and for one another. I watch this film so that I will never forget the price of our freedom.

5 out of 5 stars I'll never forget..........2007-04-21

It's funny what you remember about this day. I'll always remember Dan Rather's opening line to the early evening news: "Good evening. Whoever you are and wherever you are right now, you'll remember this day for as long as you live." This brilliant documentary ensures that the memories will stay accurate.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful.......2007-04-03

This piece shows the terror of that day first hand. It shows the everyday life of a fireman and how it all changed on that one day. The raw emotion seen on the faces and heard in the voices of the people on that day can never be re-created
