Description
Sounds Like Fun! is an interactive DVD designed by two speech language pathologists to help parents understand how to help their children develop good sound production. The DVD covers three main areas: The Sound Production portion shows how a typical speech therapy session works. You can watch demonstrations of each sound as it appears in the three word positions. (Word position means the initial, the middle, and the final positions. For example, the letter b: b in the initial position as in the word bath; b in the middle position as in the word hamburger; b in the final position as in the word club.) Sound Production covers 17 consonant sounds and six digraphs.

The Sound Demonstration portion isolates the individual sounds for review. Each sound is described and demonstrated for proper sound production. Sound Production covers 17 consonant sounds and six digraphs.

The Fun Activities portion gives several ideas of fun things to do that, at the same time, help kids practice lip and tongue movements necessary for good sound production.

The Sounds Like Fun! DVD is interactive and can be watched from beginning to end (like a video) or you can jump to any part of the program to watch something of particular interest or review something for practice. The ideas can be used by parents (or teachers, therapists, child-care workers) for carryover activities where the child uses what they have learned and practiced in therapy in everyday settings and situations -- at school, at home, or anywhere!

The Sounds Like Fun! DVD was developed by two working speech language pathologists based on their real-world experience working with clients (from birth through high school) for over 25 years. The program focuses on pre-school and primary school-age children, but for practice or Fun Activities the same principles apply to any age. The Fun Activities can also be used with babies and pre-verbal toddlers to give them the skills they need for later.

4 out of 5 stars Sounds Like Fun DVD Review.......2006-06-30

My son was screened and found to have a delay in his L and R sounds. THe delay was not significant enough to qualify for services, so I was interested when I saw this DVD. The Demonstration section describes where the lips and tongue need to be (I never thought about the tongue being used to make sounds other then a TH sound). The Fund Activities section tells a number of things my son can do to exercise and strengthen his tongue. He is sounding better. I know he can make the sound when we concentrate on a word by itself. I like the DVD format of this - we can go right to the part we want without fast forwarding or rewinding a video tape. I recommend this DVD to parents of primary school-age kids but also infants and toddlers (there are some great suggestions to help kids develop sounds). I wish I had this four years ago!
