As McFeeley was dying of lung cancer at 46 years old, he decided to work with Schwartz to make this film to help others quit smoking. To date, thousands have quit after hearing McFeeley's story, and Schwartz became known as "media central" for the anti-smoking cause.

"If You Love Someone Who Smokes" contains no medical details, no special "techniques" and it supports no specific drug solution. But for thousands of smokers, this video gives them the heart and the courage to quit-- for the last time. The film does not scare or intimidate you. But once having seen it, you can never forget it.

A good thought provoking movie and great for discussion starter. It still boils down that the person first has to want to quit smoking.

Funny & Interesting.......2006-02-19

This movie is funny and very interesting. It can be a little slow for the "now generation". Each child that is born looks nothing like her husband. The husbands female cousin has smart remarks with each arrival -- priceless. Very real world rural Brazil. I read other reviews focusing on birth control etc., but I found that I was looking forward to the next child to see how the child would look and the reaction around the arrival. If you take life too seriously and trying to look for hidden meanings/agendas -Not for you - Just enjoy it for what it is.....

I never write raves. But this is a very underestimated film. The screenplay is spare and polished. The actors - sublime. Regina Case is amazing in this role. Should have won all kinds of awards. Completely absorbing. Best film I've seen in a long time.

No violence, restrained sex - real life, with somebody you are really rooting for.

Another Brazilian Jewel..........2005-11-03

For those who know a little about the wonderful history of cinema in Brazil, this movie arrives with a taste of caipirinha and a very powerful way to show that even in the desert, it is possible to bear fruit. Darlene is a contrast to the environment she lives in. She bears children easily, all natural births, when outside all you see is abandonment, poverty, and the desert. She is also a trademark of brazilian woman: strong, determined, beautiful, creative, and most of all, human.

Walter Sales outdid himself this time, and I am very happy, as a brazilian myself, to see our cinema reaching the grounds of major nations in the world, like America, as a way for others to learn a bit more about other cultures.

Brazilian family values.......2005-04-21

This story of a libidinous mother (who has apparently never heard of birth control of any kind) living in the Brazilian backwoods presents some of the best and worst of Brazilian cinema. On the one hand: beautiful cinematography, which is no easy feat for a bleak landscape, and authenticity in sets, dialogue and characters. On the other hand: the seemingly obligatory depiction of squalor both physical and moral, and a storyline that only intermittently entertains. Sinto muito, but the film so merece tres estrelas.

I've seen quite a few brazilian flicks. To prove the point at hand, it's just obvious and very slow moving. The plot is not very intriguing.. not what I expected.

The title is more eye-opening than the work. Here are short works from around the world featuring men who are ambivalent about being gay, loving up other dudes, or being a part of a supposed gay community. The Boys' Shorts series is much better than this. This features international short, but their are gay foreign films better than this. For example, Spain's "Bear Cub" was far superior to the Spanish offering here. Maybe these works are a challenge to essentialism. Nevertheless, you may be severely disappointed after watching these works.
