The mischievous chipmunks Chip and Dale began as the unnamed rodent-pests in "Private Pluto" (1943); they acquired names in their third film, "Chip an' Dale" (1947). Although the duo became a mainstay of the Disney shorts during the late '40s and '50s, primarily as adversaries for Donald Duck, the characters never quite gelled. Their appearance and the pitch and comprehensibility of their voices change noticeably from film to film. Chip (the smarter one with the smaller nose) and Dale (the dim one with the larger nose and, often, buck teeth) are at their best when they're trying to protect their home and acorns from Donald ("Chip an' Dale," "Out on a Limb") or Pluto ("Food for Feudin'"). They're less appealing when they become aggressors ("Three for Breakfast"). The other three entries in the Classic Cartoon Favorites series, devoted to Mickey, Donald, and Pluto, repeat many of the shorts previously released in the Walt Disney Treasures series. This disc is the first one devoted entirely to Chip an' Dale. (Unrated, suitable for ages 5 and older: cartoon violence, minor ethnic stereotyping) --Charles Solomon

Description

An hour-long collection of Disney cartoons. Chicken in the Rough, 1951, In a farmyard a hen is sitting on a nest of eggs when Chip an' Dale, who are picking acorns, come upon the eggs. A baby chick comes out of one of the eggs and Dale, in trying to stuff chick back into the egg, gets involved with a rooster. He is finally trapped under hen with rooster pacing out in front. Chip 'n' Dale, 1947, Cold Awakens Donald; he goes out to chop tree for log. Chipmunks, Dale and Chip, inside log, shaken out into snow, follow Don into house to get nuts left in log. They try various ways to get log from fireplace and finally succeed. Out of Scale, 1951, Donald, as the engineer of a miniature train, runs into difficulties with Chip 'n Dale when he replaces an oak tree, where they have stored nuts, with a miniature tree. A chase follows and chipmunks end up in the miniature village where they duck into a tiny house. Gags follow with Donald simulating extremes of weather. Chips decide to get their tree back. Tree is kicked onto tracks and train drives a hold through the tree. Chips put "Giant Redwood" sign on tree and convince Donald it is in scale. Two Chips and a Miss, 1952, Chipmunks attend a nightclub and vie with one another for attention of a nightclub singer who divides her attention between the two. Food for Feudin', 1950, Chipmunks fill a tree with nuts. Pluto causes the nuts to roll down into his doghouse. They try to retrieve nuts. Eventually lure Pluto up hill with nuts. Working for Peanuts, 1953, Chip and Dale steal peanuts from Dolores, the elephant. Donald, using Dolore's trunk as a vacuum cleaner, pulls the peanuts away from the thieves, and then in machine-gun fashion, he shoots the nuts back at the chipmunks. He misses the chipmunks, they laugh, he chases them and knocks himself out by hitting a wall. Chipmunks cover themselves with whitewash, and sneak back into the zoo as rare albino chipmunks, fooling both Donald and Dolores into giving them more peanuts. Out on a Limb, 1950, Donald, as a tree surgeon, discovers the tree home of Chip an' Dale and decides to have sport. The chipmunks, unaware he is in the tree, think the tree pruner is a monster. Gags with pruner and lawn mower; Donald loses and has tantrum. Three for Breakfast, 1948, Chip and Dale try to get pancakes which Donald is making. Fork flies in and leaves with pancake on it. Continues until fork misses and sticks into pan of rubber cement, spilling on stove which forms rubber pancake. Donald replaces pancake with rubber cake. The chipmunks are frustrated, and the gag backfires on Donald. Dragon Around, 1954, Donald, a steamshovel operator, is clearing an excavation and must tear out the tree where the Chips are living. Chip and Dale have been reading a fairy tale and imagine the steamshovel is a dragon. When they see their home threatened, they set out to 'kill' the dragon. Donald decides he is going to have some fun and tease the Chips. In the course of the battle that ensues, the Chips manage to get into Donald's tool chest. With his wrench they unbolt the steamshovel, causing it to fall apart. Having thus 'slain' the "Dragon," they save their home.

4 out of 5 stars Very good, but should have twice as many cartoons........2007-04-14

This would have been a five star release if not for:
1) it is too short and
2) It has only two of their three solo cartoons. "LONE CHIPMUNKS" is missing and SHOULD have been included. It is unlikely that Chip & Dale will get their own Disney Treasures DVD release with only three cartoons.

Unlike most of the Cartoon Favorites series DVDs, this installment mostly features cartoons not yet available on the Disney Treasures series. The descriptions are already included above, so I will give the duplication run down here:

CHIP AND DALE (1947)- NEW TO DVD but expected to be on the Disney Treasures: Chronological Donald volume 3 to be released this Dec. 11 2007.

TREE FOR BREAKFAST (1948) - NEW TO DVD but expected to be on the Disney Treasures: Chronological Donald volume 3 to be released this Dec. 11 2007.

OUT ON A LIMB (1950) - NEW TO DVD but expected to be on the Disney Treasures: Chronological Donald volume 3 to be released this Dec. 11 2007.

FOOD FOR FEUDIN' (1950) - Only cartoon already released on "Disney Treasures: Complete Pluto volume 2".

OUT OF SCALE (1951) - NEW TO DVD, not yet announced for any Donald Duck release.

CHICKEN IN THE ROUGH (1951) - NEW TO DVD - solo Chip & Dale cartoon.

TWO CHIPS AND A MISS (1952) - NEW TO DVD - solo Chip & Dale cartoon.

WORKING FOR PEANUTS (1953) - NEW TO DVD, not yet announced for any Donald Duck release.

DRAGON AROUND (1954) - NEW TO DVD, not yet announced for any Donald Duck release.

Bottom line: This is a MUST GET DVD!

4 out of 5 stars 2 Awesome Characters in a great dvd!.......2007-01-12

4 out of 5 stars "A DVD to Remember".......2007-06-18

This DVD has Pluto's Christmas Tree with those lovable chipmunks, Chip 'n' Dale. It also has Mickey's Christmas Carol which I remember watching every year on television growing up in the eighties. This DVD is worth it for those two alone. I have not seen The Small One. What would have made this perfect is if they would have also included the short where Donald is aggravated by his nephews and so a snow fight ensues (forget the actual name of the short). I remember they would air this one on tv as well right before Mickey's Christmas Carol to fill up the entire hour time slot. Still, this release is a must-have for anyone who grew up with these fond memories as a child. Just the music and singing in Mickey's Christmas Carol is enough to warm my heart.

5 out of 5 stars I bought it for ONE reason only.......2007-02-28

I have two favorite Christmas Specials from when I was young - 1) How the Grinch Stole Christmas (the animated short, not the Jim Carrey movie) and 2) Mickey's Christmas Carol.

The Grinch is still shown (usually) each year, but it's been a number of years since I'd seen Mickey's Christmas Carol and I had to have it. Yes, it's the same old Dicken's story, but there are some CLASSIC moments (Goofy as Marley saying Scrooge will be visited by 3 ghosts but he's only holding up 2 fingers).

One of my favorite versions of the Dicken's classic.

5 out of 5 stars I JUST LOVE IT.......2007-02-01

I HAD THE VHS VERSION, AND WE WATCH IT EVERY YEAR.
I LIKE THE THREE STORIES, BUT SMALL ONE IS MY FAVORITE

I WONDER WHEN CAN I FIND THIS DVD ON SPANISH.??

THIS DVD IS ALSO IN SPANISH?

5 out of 5 stars Great Family Tradition.......2007-01-21

This is a family classic that will be come a true family favorite. Appropriate for all ages and especially great for those who cherish the holidays.

5 out of 5 stars Vol.9 with Mickey's Christmas Carol! Loved It!!!!!!!!.......2007-01-19

I ordered this dvd for Mickey's Chritsmas Carol. It was just as I remembered it. This classic story in animated form with likable characters, hitting all the key points of the story.

2 out of 5 stars Too short & all have been released to DVD before!.......2007-04-14

These are great cartoons, but there is nothing new to DVD here. If you have the Disney Treasures sets, you have these cartoons:

Others gave descriptions, so I will just list their original DVD release:

"No Sail" (1945) w/ Donald and Goofy - already on "The Chronological Donald volume 2".

"Two Weeks Vacation" (1952) w/ Goofy - already on "The Complete Goofy".

"Trailer Horn" (1950) w/ Donald, Chip & Dale - to be released on "The Chronological Donald volume 3" this December 11, 2007.

"Old Sequoia" (1945) w/ Donald - already on "The Chronological Donald volume 2".

"Mickey's Trailer" (1938) w/ Mickey, Donald, and Goofy - already on "Mickey Mouse in Color volume 1"

"Hello Aloha" (1952) w/ Goofy - already on "The Complete Goofy".

"Good Scouts" (1938) w/ Donald, Huey, Dewey, and louie - already on "The Chronological Donald volume 1".

"How to Ride a Horse" (1941) w/ Goofy - this is the 1950 re-release excerpt from the 1941 feature "The Reluctant Dragon" which has already been released on DVD.

4 out of 5 stars Mickey's Trailer makes it worthwhile.......2007-04-13

One of my favorite Disney cartoons, Mickey's Trailer, came from an episode of The Disney Sunday Movie, which was a regular show when I was growing up. I'd had a VCR tape of the cartoon that was practically worn out from watching it so much. And then, Disney finally released the cartoon on DVD!!! The rest of the cartoons are entertaining, but I definitely bought this DVD for Mickey's Trailer. It's a great cartoon, with Mickey, Goofy, and Donald vacationing in a pull-behind-the-car trailer. I was a little disappointed because I thought another of my favorites (from that worn out VCR tape) was on it, Goofy riding a horse at a dude ranch, but alas, it was not the same cartoon. I'll keep looking!

5 out of 5 stars Awesome!.......2007-02-19

This is truly destined to be a classic! I LOVE these old cartoons because they give me insight on Disney's past. My favorite ones on here are Mickey's Trailer and Old Sequoia. They are also the oldest cartoons in this particular collection. I LOVE them!

5 out of 5 stars The Inspector .......2006-04-09

I've got a picky 5 year old. He sits singing, laughing and clapping his hands together while he watches this video. I'm sure I made a good choice.

5 out of 5 stars GREAT CLASSICS.......2006-02-23

This is one of my favorites in the Classic Cartoon Favorites series so far--this DVD is packed with some of the best cartoons I've seen so far. Here's a short summary of each:

Mickey's Trailer: When Goofy disconnects the line between his car and Mickey's inventive trailer, it's all downhill! (7:30)

No Sail: Donald & Goofy are trapped in a boat--which, ironically, will let steer them home, if they had a nickel. When sharks drop by, hilarious trouble ensues. (7:30)

Good Scouts: On a camping trip, Donald tries to show off to Huey, Dewey, and Louie about what he can do--until a bear intervenes and causes Donald a scare. (7:30)

Hello Aloha: Goofy has had it, and on a desperate attempt for relaxation, cruises to Hawaii. Only to find relaxation is not what it turned out to be! (6:30)

Old Sequoia: Donald is now a park ranger, and find some beavers in his district sawing down trees--but if Old Sequoia goes, he'll go! (6:30)

How to Ride a Horse: One of Goofy's "How to's", Goofy would be an expert horse rider...or is the horse the expert? (8:00)

Trailer Horn: When Donald goes on a camping trip, Chip 'n' Dale are curious to see a trailer in their forest...until they have some fun. (6:30)

Two Weeks Vacation: One of Goofy's classics! Goofy goes on vacation, but can never find a spare minute of peace anywhere...especially with the trailer always ahead of him on the road! (6:00)

5 out of 5 stars Great stuff.......2007-05-08

This is Mickey Mouse we are talking about! Not everyone has the Treasures, so this is great for those who do not have the color treasures (me). I have the most common of Mickey Treasures, Mickey Mouse in Black and White, Volume Two. This DVD could of had 2 or 3 more shorts, but this is a great viewing of Mickey's work. Also see: Walt Disney's Funny Factory With Mickey, Vintage Mickey, Classic Cartoon Favorites - Best Pals - Mickey & Pluto (Vol. 12), Classic Cartoon Favorites - Best Pals - Mickey and Minnie (Vol. 10).

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful!.......2007-04-29

I haven't seen Mickey Mouse since I was a child. I have actually sat through this movie with my son over a dozen times. I definitely recommend.

4 out of 5 stars A nice intro to Disney Cartoons........2006-03-25

Unlike my fellow reviewers, my five-year-old and I think this DVD is great. "Hawaiian Holiday" was playing (over and over again) on Disney World TV when we were at the Wilderness Lodge Resort and we've been hooked ever since. No, it is not as complete as the Disney Treasues, but they are nice additions to our collection.

2 out of 5 stars Watch It Yourself Before Showing To Young Children.......2005-06-09

I gave this to my 3 year old today and she turned it off herself by the middle of the second cartoon. She was disturbed by the first cartoon that had Donald Duck trying to beat up a baby seal, I have to say it made me a little uncomfortable because we are trying to teach her that hitting is wrong.

But the second cartoon, where the bugs in Mickey's garden grow and try to eat Mickey and Pluto is where my daughter started to cry and ran over to the TV and turned it off.

It might just be my child, because we are usually very careful and watch her videos before she does so she isn't exposed to any overly violent content. But I broke our rule with this one because...hey, it's Mickey Mouse.

Personally, my husband and I had a blast watching it by ourselves. It brought back some great memories. We wish it would have been longer!

But my advice is for the parents to watch it for themselves first before showing to to their young ones. They are the best judge of how much violence is appropriate for their own kids.

4 out of 5 stars Great for Children.......2005-03-30

I bought this title for my two and half year old son. Previously I had bought the Mickey's Twice Upon a Christmas DVD and he loved Mickey mouse. This title is great for young children as there is nothing offensive they might see in maybe some other older cartoons, aside from Goofy feeding fish tobacco. My son loves his dvd and often will choose it over other new animations that we own. This is likely not the best DVD for collectors or adults wanting to get their Mickey fix. Otherwise this is a nice family dvd with a family price.

I have a two year old girl and this dvd is just long enough for her to stay interested, but not too long to bore her. Being 8 cartoons - it's not the biggest set out there, and I'll probably buy the big set as soon as I finish this comment, but It's good for a little one if you're not wanting to spend $30 on a big set. Now that I know there's a bigger set out there, and I'm a Duck fan, I'll get it. This is a good dvd to put on before dinner to keep her occupied - and, by the time dinner's ready, she's settled down and ready to eat.

4 out of 5 stars Good for the price.......2005-01-20

It's too bad it didn't come out for the holidays because it would have made a great grab-bag gift. For $10, you only get 8 cartoons, but for someone like myself who is a Donald Duck fan, it's nice to watch this whenever I need a good laugh. Today's cartoons are much too violent. It's nice to see something clean.

5 out of 5 stars adorable and funny.......2005-02-24

Goofy is hilarious. when I used to to watch him alot as a kid on Disney I couldn't help but laugh at his type of antics for humor. it was so stupid it was funny. he really touches kids too . even in his short cartoons. I would recommend everyone give Goofy a chance. young or old. you're never too young or too old for cartoons. enjoy what you will

When I got this on Dvd I was so happy. Walt Disney and others created some amazing toon characters.

4 out of 5 stars THESE ARE ALL ON THE COMPLETE GOOFY SET.......2005-01-12

Here's a quandry. I would definitely say you should buy the Disney Treasures Complte Goofy set since all of the shorts on this DVD are in the Treasures set. You get EVERY Goofy short in that Treasures Set. Trouble is it's out of print now and only available in the seconday market. If you can get that at a resonable price then that is your best bet.

This is a very good DVD however containing 9 Goofy shorts made in the 1940's and 1950's. it includes several of Goofy's "how to" series where Goofy takes part in the demonstration and a narrrator does the voice over. These include: How to Dance, How to Swim, how to Fish, and The Art of Skiing. These are all quite funny.

It's worth the $12 or so but any Goofy fan should try and find the Complete Goofy set if possible.

3 out of 5 stars Goofy's best shorts.......2004-12-25

Definitely a good collection to get if you haven't seen a Goofy short. Includes some of his best, the "How to" series. All the shorts in this collection are also on the Walt Disney Treasures "The Complete Goofy" set, so don't purchase this if you already have that.

Boo to Disney. This is a missed oppertunity to give us what the rest of the world got: Soccarmania and its related cartoons. Instead we just get a very short re-hash of cartoons already on DVD:

"CANINE CADDY" (1941) - already on "The Complete Pluto volume 1";

"HOW TO PLAY BASEBALL" (1942) - already on "The Complete Goofy";

"THE HOCKEY CHAMP" (1939) - already on "The Chronological Donald volume 1";

"DOUBLE DRIBBLE" (1946) - already on "The Complete Goofy";

"HOW TO PLAY FOOTBALL" (1944) - already on "The Complete Goofy";

"MICKEY'S POLO TEAM" (1936) - already on "Mickey Mouse in Color volume 1";

"TENNIS RACQUET" (1949) - already on "The Complete Goofy";

"GOOFY GYMNASTICS" (1949) - already on "The Complete Goofy".

2 out of 5 stars Where's soccormania?.......2006-04-01

This dvd was released everywhere in the world with the rare tv special "sports goofy in soccormania".

A 30 min special. It was removed from the american release.

Why they did this is unknown.

The dvd lost 30 min and we lost a rare cartoon the rest of the world gets but not america!

Thanks alot disney.

5 out of 5 stars Great entertainment.......2005-07-29

Pure Disney fun. You can't go wrong on this one. If you like Disney characters and cartoons, you'll have a blast...It takes you back thirty years when you used to watch these short subjects on the Wonderful World of Disney on Sunday nights.

5 out of 5 stars Bare bones releases good for a variety of reasons........2005-05-16

I pretty much know the origin for these type of DVDs. We have the Walt Disney Treasures sets for hardcore animation fans. So these Classic Cartoon Favorites DVDs are for parents who want to keep the kids busy in front of the TV, and for those who want the very best of Disney's cartoons.

The Disney's Sports DVD contains eight cartoons, five of which are Goofy's best sport cartoons, especially "How To Play Baseball". Also it has my favorite Donald Duck cartoon "The Hockey Champ", where Donald battles a game of Hockey with his three nephews; "Canine Caddy", starring Mickey and Pluto in a game of Golf; and "Mickey's Polo Team", Mickey and the Gang plays Polo against a team of celebrites, a few of which are Charlie Chaplin and Laurel and Hardy.

Disney Sports fans will rejoice for this one. And although it's a bare bones release (meaning no extras), it's still great to buy for the above^ reasons.

1 out of 5 stars No "Socermania" instead too many repeats.......2005-03-07

I was hoping that "Socermania" would be on the "Extreme Sports Fun" DVD but NO! Instead disney had to put on all of the same cartoons that were released on the "Disney Treasures" this also goes for the other two DVD's Extreme Music and adventure fun, allthough 'Pluto's Blue Note', 'Donald's Dilemma' 'No Sail' 'Old Sequoia' and 'Trailer Horn' are on DVD for the first time but with the new Disney Treasures "Disney Rarities" and "The Chronological Donald volume 2"(which might I add could use a lot of improvment on the restoration) who needs these DVDs, so I suggest not to buy these cheap DVD's and buy the Treasures in spite of the bad restoration.

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Perhaps not completely politically correct, but far less insulting than modern children's programs/cartoons........2006-12-09

It's true that not all the shorts here are technically Christmas related, but neither was the original 'From All of Us to All of You', for anyone who goes back far enough to recall this one. It debuted on 'Walt Disney Presents'(as it was called at that time) back in 1959. Basically, this is one of the earliest Christmas specials for children(predating 'Mr.Magoo's Christmas Carol' and 'Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer', both from the early 60s). I actually caught it on both 'The Wonderful World of Disney'(the show's title during the '70s) and, later, on the Disney Channel(back when it wasn't just 'Saved by the Bell'-styled kiddie shows). 'From All of Us to All of You' did offer a currier and ives scene from, I believe, the film 'Melody Time'(available on DVD). However, no Christmas identification was specifically given to this winter excerpt, borrowed from the previous film, and it oddly didn't affect the cheerfull holiday mood of the show one bit.
Also, I realize that everything from film to stage theater to the funny papers were far from politically correct in the day, but if that's all that 'modern' parenting has to worry about, turn on 'Barney'. It's pathetically annoying and, quite likely, will raise your toddler to become a goofy moron, but it beats having to explain to them that dogs tails are for themselves to wag only, guns are for adults, and cartoons are...well, cartoons.

3 out of 5 stars Kind of a misnomer..........2005-12-09

Since I've been picking up the Walt Disney's Treasures collections, I've been largely ignoring the "Classic Cartoon Favorites," but I decided to pick this one up to go with my library of Christmas DVDs. I was slightly disappointed when I watched it. Of the seven shorts included on this set, only three of them are holiday-related. "Mickey's Good Deed," an early cartoon about Mickey trying to provide a merry Christmas to a home of orphans, is the gem of the collection. It really shows off the inherent goodness of the character, and was a little funnier than some of the later cartoons, as he wasn't quite the straight man he would become.

"The Clock Watcher," a Donald cartoon, features the screwy duck working as a gift wrapper, and "Toy Tinkers" is a Donald-vs-Chip-and-Dale classic.

The rest of the cartoons seem to have been included by virtue of being set in the wintertime, even though they've got nothing to do with the stated theme. They're okay cartoons, but not what I was looking for. Still, I'll get the other Holiday volume of this series (Vol. 9) as it contains probably the two greatest Disney Christmas cartoons -- "Pluto's Christmas Tree" and "Mickey's Christmas Carol."

1 out of 5 stars Beware.......2005-12-08

I made the mistake of not watching this before allowing my 3.5 year old to. I don't consider myself overprotective, but these stories have a kid abusing a dog (Pluto), a kid having his pants pulled down and being spanked over someone's knee (including showing the kid's bottom from above), and Donald chasing Chip & Dale with a revolver in the first 2 cartoons among other things. I turned it off after that. Talked to several other friends to see if I was overreacting & they recall seeing that kind of stuff when we were little but all agreed they don't want their toddlers seeing it anytime soon. Was a little surprised this made it out of Disney especially in today's day & time....May be okay for older kids, but I don't really want to explain guns or why it's not funny/okay to abuse our dogs to my 3.5 year old.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Collection.......2005-12-01

This is a great mix of seven Disney classic cartoons.I remember watching all of these on TV at one point or another, but not for a number of years now.My 26 month old granddaughter also enjoys these and has asked to watch them several times.I bought this at Target for $9.99 which is a decent price.Perfect for family holiday viewing. If you like the older cartoons, you won't be disappointed.

4 out of 5 stars A SOLID COLLECTION!.......2005-09-15

I've been a bit tough on some of these recent Disney collections due to the fact that all or most of the shorts were already appearing on the Disney Treasures sets and so getting those were a much better value. But in this case, only three of these are on those Treasures sets and each is on a different one so it makes this a definite one to pick up. Certaintly they will eventually be on the Treasures editions but until then I would recommend this set. Be advised that even though it says holiday celebration not all of these shorts really have a holiday theme. Some are simply shorts that take place in the winter.

Rescue Dog 1947 - Pluto is a rescue dog in the snow-covered mountains of the frozen north. But when he tangles with a playful baby seal, it turns out that he is the one who needs to be rescued.

Toy Tinkers - 1949 - It's Christmas time, and Chip 'n' Dale fight with Donald for the goodies under his tree. This was nominated for an Oscar as best short subject

Corn Chips 1951 - Donald cons Chip and Dale into shoveling his snowy sidewalk, and ends up shoveling popcorn

Clock Watcher - 1945 - Donald takes a job as a gift wrapper in a department store.

Mickey's Good Deed 1932 - On Christmas Eve, Mickey needs money to help out a poor mother's desperate children. So he sells Pluto to a rich family- whose spoiled brat gives the pooch a real run for his money. Black & white

Lend a Paw 1941 - Pluto is mean to a pesky little kitten, but saves it from drowning in a frozen river, thanks to his good conscience (the angel and devil in his head battle it out).

Peculiar Penguins 1935 - A dance piece from the South Pole. Peter catches a fish to show his love for Polly. The fish expands when she eats it, making her look fat, and Peter foolish.

5 out of 5 stars Classic Donald & Daisy.......2006-04-12

With the criticism of the "Cartoon Classic Favorites" collection being redudent of the "Walt Disney Treasures", I can tell with this fourth wave of the series that Disney has begun to hear the voices and offer a bit more of the cartoons that have not yet been seen. While all of these Donald cartoons will probably be completely released in the "Walt Disney Treasures", for only $9.99 to $14.99 (depending on how much you pay at whatever merchandise you end up buying these DVDs from), they are worth the investment with this wave (Volume 10 through 12) to tie you over until what may be some years yet for all the Donald cartoons to be released in the "Walt Diseny Treasures" series.

Yes, I have all the "so far" released DVDs of both the "Walt Disney Treasures" and the "Cartoon Classic Favorites". For an avid classic disney collector, I feel that both of these collections are worth the money, both only these two collections. If you're serious about disney and the classic disney entertainment, I recommend both of these collections to the consumer.

Four of these Donald and Daisy cartoons have not been seen before on DVD. The other four have, but they are among the very best Donald cartoons ever made. With that being said, I can assure that this DVD features only some of the best and rariest Donald cartoons that DVD has to offer so far. A few of these cartoons I have not seen since I was about six years old (twenty years ago). "Donald's Diary" was bit of a surprise as I have forgotten about this cartoon, but noticed that it sticks out from the normal Donald routine and places Donald more in the image of the typical young fellow of the time in love. This has got to be one of my favorite Donald cartoons and I was happy to see this on DVD.

I have to admit I was a little sceptical about buying these DVDs and even more so this wave due to the overwhelming duplication in the past. However, the cartoons on these discs are becoming more and more of the popular ones and of the rariest ones, as well. If you have not bought any of the discs from the "Classic Cartoon Favorites" collection, this latest wave of DVDs will be one everyone surely will enjoy. The "Best Pals" edition of this series (Volumes 10 through 12) are well worth the investment this time around.

3 out of 5 stars 4 new to DVD cartoons & 4 re-issues. Still worth getting!.......2006-01-19

Cartoon Classics VOLUME 11: BEST PALS DONALD AND DAISY

This release features four cartoons that have never been issued to DVD, but three are announced for this Dec.11 2007's "Disney Treasures: Chronological Donald volume 3" . All are classic Donald Duck cartoons worth getting this DVD for!

Regardless of the duplication, I thoroughly enjoyed watching this DVD. DONALD'S DIARY (which sounds like a cheater cartoon but isn't) is my favorite. It has a stylized, almost UPA, look but still uses full animation. Donald's nightmare of marriage is a good show closer to this Donald & Daisy set. Even though DONALD'S DIARY will probably not be on a Disney Treasures DVD set until 2008 or later, it looks restored.

My only complaint (aside from the repetition of cartoons from other DVD releases) is that 10 Daisy cartoons were produced, so why only include 8 in her DVD set? Remember, DVDs can hold up to 3 hours of program without losing quality to compression artifacting, Disney is giving us less than one hour here!

Here is what you do get:

MR. DUCK STEPS OUT (1940 - previously released on "Disney Treasures: Donald volume 1" DVD Tin AND the "Mickey & Minnie's Sweetheart Stories" DVD.)
Donald heads out to court Daisy, but his nephews Huey, Dewey and Louie find devious ways to sabotage Donald's big date.

CURED DUCK (1945 - previously released on "Disney Treasures: Donald volume 2" DVD Tin.)
Daisy, fed up with Donald's temper, makes Donald take lessons to cure it with the aid of an `insult machine.' Donald is cured, but when he laughs at Daisy's hat, it's Daisy who gets hot under the collar.

DONALD'S DOUBLE TROUBLE (1946 - previously released on "Disney Treasures: Donald volume 2" DVD Tin AND the "Mickey & Minnie's Sweetheart Stories" DVD.)
Donald meets his double and decides to use him to win back Daisy. But the trick backfires when the double falls in love with Daisy himself.

SLEEPY TIME DONALD (1947 - NEW TO DVD, but announced for this Dec.11 2007's "Disney Treasures: Chronological Donald volume 3")
Donald sleepwalks to Daisy's house, and Daisy is kind enough to steer him back to his own bed. Later, when Donald tells Daisy that she's the one walking in her sleep, the two get into a funny argument.

CRAZY OVER DAISY (1950 - NEW TO DVD, but announced for this Dec.11 2007's "Disney Treasures: Chronological Donald volume 3")
Chip `N Dale make mischievous trouble for Donald while he's riding his bike. Donald tries to get even, but is frustrated when Daisy takes the chipmunks' side.

DONALD'S DREAM VOICE (1948 - NEW TO DVD, but announced for this Dec.11 2007's "Disney Treasures: Chronological Donald volume 3")
Donald wants to improve his speaking voice, and buys miraculous voice pills that increase his vocal range. Donald manages to lose all the pills, including his last one that accidentally drops into the mouth of a cow.

DONALD'S CRIME (1945 - previously released on "Disney Treasures: Donald volume 2" DVD Tin.)
Donald is broke, and when he gets a date with Daisy, he breaks into his nephews' piggy bank out of desperation. His conscience gets the best of him, however, and Donald finds a job to pay back Huey, Dewey and Louie.

DONALD'S DIARY - (1954 - NEW TO DVD! No announcements for other releases yet.)
Daisy almost succeeds in getting Donald to say "I do" and settle down in marriage. But Donald gets cold feet when he thinks about the worst that could happen to a married duck, and he runs away.

Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars "Plutopia" wildly inappropriate for any child.......2006-09-03

We purchased several of the Cartoon Classic Favorites DVD series last month after our 2-year-old daughter met Mickey and others at Disneyland. Firstly, these DVDs don't play on our older player; only on the newer model. Frustrating.

Secondly, yes, these are the cartoons we all watched when growing up, but parents of small children please supervise your child's watching. There is a lot more needless violence than you may expect; in particular, "Plutopia" offers a disturbing sequence of cat begging for punishment, pleading "Bite me, PLEASE" and then pulling out rifle to shoot itself in head. Do you really want your children seeing this? No.

5 out of 5 stars Love These Cartoons..........2006-07-17

These are the cartoons I remember watching on Disney. My soon-to-be three year old granddaughter really enjoys them.Mickey and Pluto are her two favorite characters so this DVD was ideal for her. There are eight cartoons,55 minutes total viewing time.Bought this at Target for under $10.00.

5 out of 5 stars Great fun.......2006-04-18

You've gotta love Pluto. I've seen all of these cartoons and they are EXCELLENT! Especially great if you don't have the Treasures series, I would recommend this DVD to everyone!

3 out of 5 stars All of these cartoons appear on the Disney Treasures DVD series. More double-dipping!.......2006-01-19
