Power yoga "demands your attention," says instructor Rodney Yee. He leads a challenging, constantly progressing series of poses, one flowing into the next, integrating breath, movement, tension, and relaxation. The poses include Sun Salutation, standing poses, forward bends, back bends, twists, and arm balances. The first poses are fairly easy, and with each repetition of the series, Yee adds on more difficult movements, extending the series without pausing. You're encouraged to do as much of the series that fits your level, up to the entire 65-minute workout if you're an experienced yoga practitioner. Although you can begin at any level, some familiarity with yoga is recommended. The Hawaiian setting is gorgeous and inspiring. This is an excellent yoga workout that you can grow with, adding on more as you get stronger. --Joan Price

The Best of The Best.......2007-06-20
I purchased this DVD three years ago and, although I own many yoga DVDs, "Power Yoga: Total Body Workout" and "Total Energy Yoga," another Yee DVD, are the ones to which I keep returning. "Power Yoga" is, as advertised, an excellent, total body workout -- albeit not one for beginners -- with just the right amount of instruction and no irritating "pep talks" or celebrity prattling: in other words, real yoga.
Most positions are held for 30 seconds, although a few are held for shorter periods of time and one --upward bow -- is repeated three times in a row. Sufficient time is permitted for transfer from one position to the next, even if, in the beginning, a practitioner cannot maintain the "flow" and needs to walk from one position to another. In my view, Yee is, along with Shiva Rea, the best yoga instructor making DVDs, and "Power Yoga" is his best DVD, overall.
One additional note: Recently, I have been employing this yoga practice and Yee's "Total Energy Yoga" along with physical therapy to treat a "frozen shoulder". My physical therapist is impressed by the progress that I have made using these yoga DVDs. While I would never suggest that anyone -- especially someone with an injury -- try an exercise DVD without first consulting his or her doctor, I have to say that yoga and, specifically, Rodney Yee, has worked for me.
excellent workout.......2007-06-13
This is a great yoga workout. It's quite strenuous, and I'd recommend it for advanced beginners or intermediate yoga practitioners. The set is beautiful and the cues are perfect. If you just started yoga, I wouldn't recommend starting with this dvd, but if you are already fairly fit and familiar with yoga, this is a great choice.
Another A++++.......2007-06-11
Easy to follow, wonderful techniques, and spectular aiding in body tension. I also enjoy the muscle building the video provides. I has been only a few weeks and I already see and feel the differance. Thank You Rodney!! ;)
Awesome DVD, great challenges.......2007-06-07
This DVD is great. It pushes you and yet allows you to make modifications were necessary. It is an hour long and really makes you sweat if you push yourself deep into the poses. Clear visuals and great instruction. I love this DVD and if I end up skipping my gym workout this is the first DVD I grab at home. WONDERFUL!

Intense!.......2007-06-05
This is an intense, long workout that is "do-able", but be prepared! I am a beginner but practice everyday with Rodney Yee's AM/PM Yoga for Beginners (love that DVD!) and other DVDs and am working my way up to intermediate level. I try to do the more intense and time consuming Yoga a few times a week, when I can fit it into my schedule. Because this one is the longest of my videos, I don't get to do it too much since there never seems to be enough time in the day. I also like to hold the stretches a little more than is allowed in this video. I affectionately refer to this DVD as the "boot camp/drill sergeant" workout because its a constant stream of instructions and movement. This is a good video for someone who is looking for more of an actual workout and not so much of the relaxation and long hold periods of stretches. Is one of the only workouts that makes me sweat!

Clean white sand and a cool predawn sky are the backdrops for this stunningly produced video, complete with an upbeat New Age soundtrack. Don't be put off by the MTV-like camera work, as this video constitutes an excellent, well-balanced workout. Ali MacGraw and a supporting cast of something-for-everyone models work through this 50-minute routine, overseen by yoga master Erich Schiffman. The first minutes focus on ujjayi breathing, then MacGraw leads us through a complete practice of shoulder stretches, sun salutations, back bends and twists, and standing poses. No equipment is required, but a sticky mat is recommended. Unlike other videos targeted for beginners, Yoga Mind & Body does not offer modifications for difficult poses and so is best suited for practitioners with some previous experience. --Jhana Bach

Class was ok, DVD pretty distracting.......2007-07-04
I am an experienced yoga practioner, and I thought that the class itself was pretty good, a good sequence, nice soothing narration, but sometimes rushed in areas. The desert scenery was indeed, beautiful, as well as the music. However, the music, for me, was not conducive to a relaxing, focused feeling. I prefer music to be more meditative and slow in a yoga class. I did not feel relaxed at the end of this class. It was somewhat disjointed.
The way the DVD was shot, was extremely distracting. Constant flashes of desert scenes, then back to the students in the class, then several different flashes of some clouds, then back to the students, all in a matter of 10 seconds. Almost as if someone were taking snapshots of nature, and flashing them all onto the screen. Sometimes when you need to look up to see what they are doing, there's a flash of a cactus. I'm sure if you do the DVD enough times to know what happens next, this won't be an issue, and you won't even need to look up. But it left me feeling agitated at the end.
The class itself was pretty good. I enjoyed the narration. Simple and clear instructions. There were times when it was rushed, all of a sudden everyone in the class is standing up, when 1 second ago, they were on the ground. There are some shaky transitions. I found myself having hard time keeping up with what they were doing. Sometimes I had to change the position of my yoga mat, and race to catch up.
I think if they would have tried not to be so fancy in the shooting of the dvd, it would have been better. The class all by itself, without all the flashes of scenery would have been fine.
Still the best after 13 years!.......2007-06-19
I bought this yoga tape on VHS 13 years ago. I've recommended it to my family and friends. Now, it's on DVD, and I'm 44 years old, I still find that it's the BEST one on the market. Study it diligently about 3 times before you practice. Then, practice and enjoy it for a lifetime!
Haven't slept or felt better!!.......2007-06-17
I have osteoarthritis in my lower back and also problems with my left wrist. I started doing this DVD 2 weeks ago and my back and wrist are feeling 85% better. The exercises help put your body into alignment and also strengthen your muscles. By the end you are totally relaxed and feel like you have had a full body massage. I have been sleeping much better and night and have not experienced the aches and pains in my joints that I ususally do. It is an excellent workout for the whole body.
You have to keep in mind that you need to work up to the level of the people on the DVD and only go into the twists and back bends until you feel a light stretch and slowing work up to it. Otherwise you my get injured. But you will not get bored as this DVD is something to keep growing with.
It is beautifully and professionally done!
Strongly recommened for all.......2007-06-12
The music is very relaxing and the instructor is not annoying like many others or boring like R.Y.(sorry). My only critique is the lack of downward dogs.
Beginners - There is no explanation of how to do the poses, but you should not practice until you have read something or taken a class any way. While it isn't simple, if you watch it once you will do well within the first 2 practices. Once you feel comfortable add to your collection and you will see that many DVD's are lacking the peacefulness of this practice.
Beyond Beginner - This is very good for light days.
Excellent Yoga Workout that I STILL use all the time!.......2007-05-13
I read in a prior review this DVD standing the test of time, and I couldn't have said it better myself. I bought it on VHS in 1994 and recently purchased the DVD. I have other Yoga DVD's I like, but this one ends up in my player over and over again STILL. Excellent music, with a workout that is good for a beginner and challenging enough for a more advanced practitioner. My only complaint is that there isn't MORE like this!

Instructor Peggy Cappy's More Yoga for the Rest of Us takes up where the first volume (released in 2002) left off, with a gentle, easy-to-follow series of yoga poses recommended for novices, those who are older and less active, or anyone dealing with injuries or recovering from illness. Unlike so many yoga video programs, which emphasize the athletic aspects of the practice (certainly a part of yoga, but hardly the most important part) and feature beautiful young people with perfect bodies, Cappy takes a "do what you can do" approach, stressing yoga's noncompetitive side and suggesting simply that the more often you try it, the better you're likely to feel; there's no New Age music, no exotic locations or groovy outfits, and the students who demonstrate the poses with her include a couple of senior citizens. The practice itself consists of a series of floor poses (including hamstring and hip openers, twists, and the bridge, a mild backbend), followed by standing stretches, forward bends, the crucial downward-facing dog asana, a couple of reasonably challenging balancing poses like eagle and dancer's, and a lengthy final relaxation. Cappy's instruction is good (although she falls a bit short when it comes to explaining specifically how to use the breath), multiple variations are demonstrated (including many using a chair, which makes them considerably easier), and many poses are repeated. The 20-minute infomercial at the end is basically extraneous, as the virtues of More Yoga for the Rest of Us speak for themselves. --Sam Graham

MORE YOGA FOR THE REST OF US.......2006-11-04
This is an excellent Yoga DVD. When you have completed your workout using this DVD you will feel so refreshed and ready to go for the day. Peggy Cappy
is an excellent yoga teacher.
Peggy Cappy Yoga 2.......2006-11-04
I enjoyed Peggy Cappy Yoga on NPTV for many years and now have the convenience of training sessions on call from the CD. Thanks.
Not as good a follow-on.......2006-04-12
Being a huge fan of "Yoga for the Rest of Us," I was looking forward to getting the second DVD, but this second DVD largely left me cold. The stretching exercises are not as effective, in my view, and do not appear to work the entire body but focus primarily on the legs and lower back and almost not at all on the neck, shoulders, and arms/wrists. The standing poses are in some instances more challenging, but their explanation and demonstration were not as clear, practiced, or well-thought-out as in the first DVD - some of the students appeared to be doing the poses for the first time without a clear idea of what they were supposed to be doing, and in one instance a standing pose was performed while the camera zoomed in on one student's face (not the most helpful way to convey how to do the pose correctly, especially when the verbal explanation is unclear). The relaxation portion, while good, was not as effective for me as in the first DVD. It may be a matter of personal taste or a slightly different target audience for the second DVD versus the first, but I likely will not rely heavily on this DVD for yoga exercises and will return to the first one, which I believe is a much better production.
Bravo Peggy Cappy!.......2006-01-31
I loved this DVD More Yoga for the Rest of Us by Peggy Cappy. Her teaching style is so warm and generous and positive and
inclusive. She attracts those of us who need yoga the most, not just young
athletes that you find in most classes. She welcomes us older and stiffer
ones...it is a beautiful philosophy and I want to thank Peggy Cappy for
sharing her love of yoga and what it can do for everybody! I have both
DVD's (Yoga for the Rest of Us and More Yoga for the Rest of Us) and I do one of them every day...they have changed my life...I have
them memorized and never tire of them. I'm 48 years old and have done yoga
classes on and off for years...always knowing that there was something good
there for me, but always feeling I couldn't keep up or be flexible
enough...I would drop out feeling a failure each time.
Peggy Cappy and her work have been a blessing in my life and I want to thank
her from the bottom of my heart! Namaste, Diana Adoberavoski
She's done it again!.......2005-09-15
Once more, Peggy Cappy has endeavored to bring the practice and benefits of yoga to those of us who live with some degree of physical limitation that puts the postures of classical yoga out of reach (literally.) As a companion to "Yoga For the Rest of Us", this dvd offers examples and instructions that expand the practitioners' repetoire of postures, never failing to address the therapeutic mind/body/spirit benefits. Peggy Cappy has a marvellously gentle, yet powerful, way of engaging the viewer/practitioner and then clearly demonstrating each pose. She never fails to include adequate time for resting and meditation poses, a perfect balance to the more active poses. If you have purchased "Yoga For the Rest of Us," this is the perfect companion piece to round out your daily practice!

not my favorite.......2007-05-30
I guess maybe I am a little spoiled by studio yoga, but I don't really like Baron on video. I have tried all of his videos, many of which I own, but I just can't get into him. I guess going to a yoga studio and taking Baron workshops has got me used to the personal hands on attention and the addicted to the energy in the room by my sweat mates. I think this is a good video if you are just getting started, so you can get the feel of a class and the pacing of a class. But if you are experienced, you will enjoy a real class much more, or should be able to 'yoga play' on your own. I also thought it should be a little longer.
Overall, great to build balance and strength.......2007-05-13
I wanted a yoga DVD to help increase muscle stability, and this one is great for that. I like that he does a lot of balance work which helps me build correct foot posture as well as leg strengthening which also helps with my knee discomfort. Overall, a great yoga workout for the body. I wish the atmosphere was a little more serene, but the class setting is great to show variations and posture corrections. One other thing, he does talk alot. My husband is a beginner and found it hard to follow the cues to change moves with all the fluff in between. You do get used to it and I will try another of his DVDs.
wonderful for beginners.......2007-03-24
Baron is such a good teacher. He exudes warmth, humility and kindness and experience as he has been doing yoga since he was a child. I learned a lot from this dvd and a year and a half later I still hear his comments as I have developed my own practice. My practice has taken bits from here and there to develop my own style and Baron has been a huge influence. I have two favorite dvds for yoga. This one and Shiva Reas "Yoga Shakti". I also recomend Baptiste's "Yoga Bootcamp Box" It is a super value and the 70 minute flow cd is helpful in getting started with out the aid of a dvd if that is your desire. It really becomes more personal without the tv so once the basics are mastered I suggest trying cd's and books for a home practice if you have the time and motivation. Namaste.
awesome.......2006-11-30
I've been doing Vinyasa yoga on and off for 3 years now and this DVD is about 80% similiar to my class I take but without the intense heat. This is definitely NOT a beginner's dvd, I definitely would say its Intermediate.
This is a DVD that is good for those who have been in either constant practice in a class or someone who knows the vinyasa flow positions. I would not recommend this DVD to those looking for something new. This a good repeat of the class you most likely take when you dont watch the DVD. Its a good practice for those times when you dont have the money for class and want to practice in the comfort of your home.
I like the modifications that he provides, with his nice soothing voice and it goes rather quickly. The abdominal section is not as challenging as his Core but this DVD works the entire body and has some pretty challenging balancing positions. It sure gets your heart pumping and I work up a real good sweat overall.
Challenging Power Yoga.......2006-06-13
What I like about Baron Baptiste is the way he so effectively communicates with his audience. Soul of Strength is a challenging power yoga workout that will have you sweating up a storm. Baron gives a lot of detail to proper form and tips on modification of the poses and the live session allows you to see what different people are doing to modify the poses as well. I like to alternate Baptistes' yoga sessions with Rodney Yee's. Where Rodney flows seamlessly and has a emphasis on calming stretches, Baron gives you a tough and comprehensive workout, so the 2 go nicely together. Highly recommended!

Classroom response.......2007-06-13
As a high school IB Biology teacher I showed this video as part of a unit on the brain. Students were most taken with Case #1: Phanton Limb. I followed the case with two hands on exercises (from the teaching materials) that allow students to experience phantom sensations. I ended the lesson with a reading called "The Man Who Fell Out of Bed" from an Oliver Sachs book, followed by the online actvitiy "Probe the Brain" (PBS) which simulates the Penfield sensory motor cortex findings. A very stimulationg little lesson!
"The Sherlock Holmes Of Neuroscience.".......2007-02-25
Intriqued by questions of consciousness and the puzzle of mind boggling brain injuries?
This DVD stimulates an awarwness that - was not there before?
Is seeing believing?
Dr. V.S. Ramachandran's unique knowledge of neuroscience and his intuitive way to solve the seemingly impossible, is worth the price alone.

It's decent.......2007-05-14
Other than the fact that Ana Caban's former job must have been wearing the Barney suit and entertaining young children (she's a little too peppy), I think this workout is decent. It's pretty quick (30 min) and not too challenging, but if you do it everyday I'm sure you'll see some improvement in the ab and leg area. I was also a little disappointed to see that she doesn't incorporate weights in the workout. I'll probably order another Pilates DVD soon hosted by someone else.
Pilates by the Beach.......2007-05-09
After walking on your treadmill or biking, this "Quick Start: Pilates for Weight Loss" becomes at least an intermediate workout. Ana Caban guides you through a number of familiar Pilates exercises including the hundred, roll-ups, leg circles, rolling like a ball and the teaser. The serene-by-the-sea setting is relaxing as Ana Caban works out in a pink outfit on a sapphire mat on a platform above the waves. This energetic workout is perfect if you only have a half hour to exercise and want to boost your metabolism. The precise instruction makes this workout a pleasure.

I'm not sure about it.......2007-04-12
I bought this video and thought it would be a great way to lose weight, but the voice over makes me want to scream. Also, it moves too quickly. Not good for someone who doesn't know a lot about pilates, which I don't!
Great Short Workout.......2007-03-28
This was my first Pilates workout and I liked it right away. I found it quite challenging for the first few times, but did what I could. I'm pleased to report that I'm able to do it all now and it feels really good. I love the scenery and unobtrusive music. I also love that this workout is only 30 minutes, so I never have an excuse not to do it.
Recommended for beginners to intermediate........2006-09-23
I like how she clearly calls out each movement so that there is no guessing about when to bend my legs, etc. I like how the overall tone of the dvd feels very calm and not rushed (the music and scenery are relaxing) WITHOUT the video feeling slow or boring; I think she accomplishes this by moving from one exercise to the next without downtime, so I don't feel like I'm wasting time (this is in contrast to the Windsor Pilates "Basics set", which spends a very boring amount of time talking about each move instead of just showing or doing the move. The Windsor would be good for absolute beginners who want a detailed How-To tutorial). Anyways, She managed to get through a suprising number of different moves in half an hour, so I felt like I had decent abs/leg adductors workout from it (but keep in mind Pilates is low impact, so it's not going to make you sweat as much as aerobics).
Also, on the same disc users have the option verbal cues in SPANISH.
UPDATE: Since I wrote my initial review, I have tried at least 10 other company's pilates workout, and I would say Ana Caban's is still one of my favorites. She goes through a variety of moves but doesn't feel rushed, she cues well but doesn't talk talk too much, and the background is beautiful.

Increase Your Intuition Easily.......2007-06-23
Steve Murray makes Reiki attunements so accessible to so many. Great Idea... why aren't more Medical Intuitives sharing attunements/energy this way?
Of course, as with anything, affects differ from person to person. For me it was this wonderful, warm surge of terrific energy--so very relaxing. I love the idea that I now have this DVD I can use over and over again, whenever I need a pick me up. No driving to class, no extra fees, just sit back, play, and get zapped somewhere wonderful.
Thanks Steve Murray
Steve Murray's Reiki products.......2007-06-11
As someone that received Steve Murray's Reiki 1st Level, 2nd Level and Master Attunements and also Psychic and Healing attunements and read the Reiki The Ultimate Guide (3 volumes, really looking forward to the forth one that is coming in July this year) and Reiki False Beliefs Exposed For All I want to express my deep gratitude to the author and tell that Steve Murray's work is superb. The author shares Reiki with the world in an honest, simple and understandable way and you can feel that his intent is genuine. After attunements I always felt an inner shift occurring, felt like each time my energy vibrations were lifted to a higher level that left me with a feeling of inner calm and at the same time inner strength. I like Steve words at the beginning of each attunement "I believe at this very moment our energies are connected in the now". These are not just words, it is something that really happens in time of attunements, it is very real. Before attunements Steve Murray gives detailed instructions on how to prepare yourself for the attunements, what to expect during and after attunements, which position you need to hold your hands. All the smallest questions that you might have about attunement are covered. The same is with Steve Murray's books. They are extremely clearly written guides, (step by step, with photographs) how to give Reiki 1st, 2nd , Master, Healing and Psychic attunements (volume 1), how to perform Healing Attunement with Chakras to help heal a specific physical ailment or disease (volume 2) and how to perform Aura Healing Attunement for specific mental and emotional issues (volume 3). Reiki False Beliefs exposed for All has all answers that you can imagine about Reiki in easy to understand question - answer form. Quoting Buddha (volume1), Rumi (volume 2), Confucius (volume 3) and Lao Tzu (Reiki False Beliefs...) in the beginning of each chapter is also a very nice and inspirational touch. You will get the wealth of information about Reiki symbols and their use in everyday life, about charkas and meridians, about aura and its layers, how to sense, see and protect it, what its colors mean, how to prepare and protect yourself from physic debris during healing session etc.
Reading Steve Murray's books makes you feel light and uplifted versus scared and limited since Steve always recommends to take from his teaching what resonates with you and leave what does not.
I truly believe that taking Steve Murray's Reiki Attunements and studying his books from cover to cover will give you enough knowledge and confidence to be a Reiki healer to heal others and yourself . Those are the only complete sources you need to learn Reiki. Buy and study his products, you will not be disappointed.
What a unique DVD!.......2007-06-02
I love all of Steve Murray's Reiki products, As someone who was attuned to Reiki 1st level the traditional way I was amused and a little skeptical of Steve Murrays books and tapes when I first came across them, but I was so wrong. His books and DVDs are really thorough and they work. When I watched his 1st level dvd I had a chronic ear infection that cleared up over night. From watching all of his DVDs I've had many wonderful coincidences with prosperity and relationships take place that can only be attributed to the programs influence.
This dvd is my favorite. It really has helped open my intuition and connection with nature. I am also studying A Course In Miracles and plan to incorporate it with this attunement since the expanded perception has also made me more aware of other people's 'stuff', like their own fear, self hatred etc. Of course this serves to build compassion, but the process of reading ACIM recognizes the only truth as love. This dvd allows that psychic energy to keep building and ACIM ensures it is steered in the only direction worth experiencing, peace and love !
nothing yet,...............2007-05-17
I have taken the psychic attunement with my girlfriend two weeks ago and so far neither myself nor my girlfriend have experienced anything that could be considered pyschic in anyway. However, I do understand that it could be a slow subtle process so we are still hopefull. we will take the attunement once again tonight and see what happens. maybe it's the way we are taking it? is anyone doing any special prep before the attunement ie; fasting, meditation, or anything else?
so it has now been 3 weeks since my second go at the attunement and i still feel nothing. my girlfriend however, has been experiencing deja vu on a regular basis. so maybe it is working for her?? I will try one more time next week.
Awesome.......2007-03-07
I have read all four books and completed the 1st, 2nd, and Psychi Attunements of Steve Murray. This DVD is so amazing there are not words to describe the power that Steve Murray conveys. The first night after doing this Attunement, my sister's name appeared in my dream, very clear, her name spelled out. I did long distance Reiki to her that day and she could feel the power instantly. Steve's books and DVD's will influence everyone who reads and has interest in Reiki and how it works. Very awesome. CSP

leaves out something major.......2007-02-19
What really annoys me about this video is that she gives detailed instruction on all the intricacies of the position but often never tells you what the position is. So you're left thinking - "what the heck is this?". This leads to a lot of confusion. As a beginner instruction what would be wrong with saying "this is xxxx pose" and then teaching it. Instead you are taken through all parts of the poses without knowing what is connected to what.
Also, the second DVD is really frustrating too. At first I thought it all would make more sense when she runs through it all on the second CD. (it shows her going through the poses to music & you can hear her breath.)
But again no direction as to names of poses - so you are trying to follow along, but how are you supposed to see the poses while you are in the positions?! If I'm doing downward facing dog how am I supposed to see the TV to know what she is doing next since there is no vocal direction! All I do is wind up hurting my neck. You hear her breath but thatncan't guide you since she doesn't always hold the pose for 1 breath.
This DVD is extremely frustrating. I wasted tons of time trying to understand it. It should have been called "Pretty Girl Makes You Wish You Knew Yoga"
disappointed advance student.......2006-11-23
I was looking for something to fill in the time after the birth of my daughter before I returned to the gym. My yoga instructor suggested Seane Corn, but this is not the DVD for me.
From my pov, this a very beginner DVD, an excellent beginner DVD, but as an advanced student I was frustrated. There is a lot of explanation and her theory (her attention to detail is excellent), and a verrrrry sloooow flow. Too slow for me and while I suppose I could breath slower, I'm looking to really warm up and give the body a work out, which this didn't do for me. Plus the lack of audio on the second disc is a huge negative. For me, once I know a routine, the audio is the most important part, cueing me to move from pose to pose. This forces you to constantly look at the screen to follow, which takes you out of alignment and out of the moment.
One-on-One Instruction.......2006-11-07
While no expert, I'm not a beginner with regards to yoga. This DVD, though perfect for beginners, was also very helpful to me. It was like taking a yoga class one-on-one with a very clear and talented instructor. It really focused my attention on where, exactly, your body should be in each individual pose and where your attention should be and where your breath should be. Also, though this is more of a superficial thing, her demeanor and voice were calm and upbeat and not annoying. (that frequently decides whether I will keep or give away a DVD) This would not be the only yoga DVD to practice with, but it would certainly be something to come back to to refocus on the basics. I did feel like it deepened my other practices as well. Highly recommended, excellent for beginners but also for people like me who do not get to go to yoga class very frequently. I will definitely be getting her second flow DVD.
Mixed Feelings.......2006-11-03
I gave this start 3 stars. 5 starts for the instructional DVD. (This is a 2 DVD set) I think it's a fantastic place for beginners to start. Seane Corn gives you plenty of time to learn and feel the pose and lots of verbal cues . Some people don't, but I also appreciate the spiritual side which is left out in many DVD's focusing only on the "excerise" side of Yoga...
Okay for the 2nd Vinyasa flow DVD...only 1 star. With absolutely no verbal cueing, those of us who have a TV above 12" on the ground must constantly look up to see what the instructor is doing. (Ironically, the very first pose is done with your eye's closed)
I bought this DVD because I have number of instructional DVD's and wanted a pure flow DVD to follow....this one isn't it. Just a cue that the move is changing would have made a huge difference in my score.
Amazing Yoga DVD - must have!.......2006-09-19
By far my favorite DVD. Sean Corne is great! This one is a must have!

African Healing Dance, with lead dancer Wyoma and the dancers and drummers of the Damballa dance troupe, is a step-by-step dance course on healing traditions and spiritual movements that are special to the African dance heritage. An African proverb teaches, "If you can talk, you can sing, and if you can walk, you can dance." Thus African Healing Dance is suited for beginning to advanced dancers, students of dance, instructors, and choreographers studying and/or performing African dance. The instructional video and included manual provide an effective guide for a dance or exercise program at home or in a workshop setting. Director of the Damballa dance troupe as well as head dancer, Wyoma begins with a simple warm-up, including breathing techniques; body articulation movements for the hips, chest, shoulders, and feet; and stretching. She then artistically integrates the teaching of six traditional African dances with the passion and joy of connecting dance movements that have the spirit and energy of nature and the elements (water, wind, fire, and earth) and animals such as the snake, elephant, and bird. A final portion of the 70-minute video is called "The Healing Journey," in which Wyoma encourages personal exploration of inner rhythms and feelings through improvisational movement. As one watches this video, it is difficult not to feel the pulse of the drumbeat and the spiritual strength of Wyoma and her celebration of life through dance. --Christine Aiken

Awesome teaching, never boring, great isolations & movements similar to Qi Gong & Kundalini yoga to increase energy.......2007-04-26
Everyone has wrote great reviews already. I was shy at first, but Wyoma's generous infectious spirit won me over within 10 min when she was teaching the basic movements with a drummer behind her. When giving it a try, I felt how good my body loved the fluidity of the movement & the simplicity of them & there was no perfect way to move & to let go. Those who are more "Type A" personality & don't know how to let go into a dance would benefit greatly & learn to let go with this.
She teaches alone inside at first for about 20 min, she gives you the origin of the dance, what the movements mean in history while teaching with simple, perfect timing cues so you never feel lost.
Outside with a beautiful mountain/hillside background, there are more percussionists & 1 female & 2 male dancers. There is a great warmup that really gets all the major joints & feels wonderful. The dance itself feels like over an hour of great stretching & increasing the fluid in your joints.
A few of the dances look almost exactly like Qi Gong or Kundalini movement to increase your constitutional energy and increase energy balance for your mind & body. It's interesting that some of these movements for healing have traveled so far thousands of years ago & people instinctively knew which ones were the most beneficial.
You can see the intro trailer at their distributor soundstrue com & you can see snippets of throughout the dvd at collagevideo com

Description
CHI KUNG means "energy exercise," the ancient Chinese yogic art that cultivates one's internal energy, the vital life force--or "chi." For centuries it has been practiced for healing, rejuvenation and vibrant longevity. Chi Kung For Health is the ground-breaking series by Terence Dunn, creator of the popular Tai Chi for Health series. Chi Kung for Health teaches the very rare and powerful Flying Phoenix Heavenly Healing Chi Meditations - a remarkable system of medical chi kung created more than 400 years ago by a legendary Taoist master, Feng Tao Teh, of the Ehrmei Mountain school. Carefully preserved through six generations of an impeccable Taoist lineage, this sacred knowledge is now available to the public as a precise, safe, and dynamic program for natural health, healing and illumination.
Customer Reviews:
Highly Recommended.......2006-12-16
These videos are the product of up to a decade and a half of refinement and are still the best on the subject. I have been practicing chi kung using Terence Dunn's flying phoenix system since 1994. At that time they were on VHS and difficult to navigate. He has now delivered them on DVD. The benefits are palpable and powerful from the first day of practice. To obtain maximum benefits, one has to be conscious, consistent and conscientious.
It is a science, because the results are reproducible. You will have results if you practice. You do not have to believe anything. Just follow the instructions. About the reviewer who wants more active movements, I urge him to be patient. Master this first basic series. It is the foundation for the other videos. The piece de resistance is the 20 minute long form meditation, which is quite complex in its movements and very powerful in its effects. I expect Mr Dunn is rendering that into DVD about now.
This series is probably all the chi kung that the majority of people would need.
beginer.......2006-11-01
very well presented and easy to follow i started practicing tai chi using his dvd for the yang long form and liked it so much i decided to try the chi kung. i workout regularly with tae-bo and low/high impact aroebics and found the tai chi and chi kung a perfect compliment. the music and the way he instructs are calming and informative enough to give you background to appreciate what your doing.
Invigorating and energizing meditative excercise. .......2006-03-05
This DVD instruction on Chi Kung standing meditations is excellent. It is a high quality presentation that is expertly done. The demonstration and instruction are easy to see and understand. It is a more demanding workout than it may appear at first glance, but it is well worth it. I highly recommended this DVD to anyone looking for a set Chi Kung excecises that are demanding without being strenuous. It is clear and easy to understand set of meditations that is well worth the price. It is also a good introduction to Chi Kung excercises.
However, this is not a dynamic workout, and the movements are slow and tranquil. The background music is also a soft easy going set of new age tunes, and this is not an excercise set for someone looking for a fast and high paced workout.
It is a calming and relaxing series of excercises that is soothing and meditative. It is also a fun set of excercises that are invigorating and relaxing wihout being too demanding and strenuous.
Claming, but boring.......2006-02-04
These meditations are about 50 min with 10 min intro & slow, Qi Gong warm-up made with some of the fundamental movements & postures.
All movements are done standing or in a small horse stance which should not be hard on anyone even with limited mobililty as long as they can stand.
There are only 2 movements one of which is "Monk gazing at moon" that your arms move at all & the last one, "Wind above the clouds" which includes mild stretching down to one foot at a time.
All other movements are held still for 5 min though he encorages you to hold it longer on your own.
All movements proceed with breathing beforehand such as inhaling, exhaling only 50% then only 30% then only 10% with normal inhale/exhaling in between each modified exhale. They do feel good, helping you to breath deeper into your belly for better oxygen like babies do.
Any movments are also done super slow, slower then even most Qi Gong dvds I own.
I did feel calmer doing it, but since my mind is always racing, I had trouble holding the postures & sitting still. Other people may not have as much trouble & get more out of it then me. I like other Qi Gong where there are more arm movements to keep my mind occupied.
In the future I might try his seated & 2 standing meditations since the trailer showed some arm movements. On his site which is the title of this DVD, shows seven volumes with the later ones having more arm movements.
Easy-to-follow and effective.......2005-12-18
I have found these Chi Kung exercises easy-to-follow and very effective at increasing an awareness of chi and its flow. Terry's explanations and demonstrations are very clear, and he takes the instruction at a nice, leisurely pace. The production of the DVD is excellent, also.
Chi Kung is much easier to learn from a video, than Tai Chi, and produces benefits quickly.
The only addition to Terry's instruction that I would like to have seen is something about the more "esoteric" elements of the movements. For example, when your hands pass near certain areas of the body, you are bringing fresh chi into those areas, in effect recharging them with energy, or redistributing energy. However, this is something you can intuit when you become adept at the movements.
To help with learning the relationship between chi kung movements and this "recharging" with chi, I would recommend Wen-Mei Yu's book on chi kung. Studying this book will give you a good "feel" for how movements recharge the body with chi.
All in all, Terry's are the best chi kung video/DVDs I have seen.
