Don't waste this one on your children: buy it for yourself. A spectacular adaptation of the Anna Sewell novel, this is faithful to the source material but creates a life of its own on the screen. Told from the point of view of the horse, it recalls a time and a place that could be both beautiful and cruel. Black Beauty faced both hardship and kindness as he passed through the hands of many owners throughout his life. Some are generous, but the agonies endured by the title character may be too harsh for small children. Unfortunately, director Caroline Thompson did not resurrect her magical touch a few years later with another animal tale, Buddy. --Rochelle O'Gorman
Description
A wondrous new version of Anna Sewell's classic about a remarkable horse and the various owners whose lives he transforms. "The most imaginative and stirring picture since The black Stallion" (Washington Times) Year: 1994 Director: Caroline Thompson Starring: Sean Bean, David Thewlis, Jim Carter

The Beauty of Black Beauty.......2007-05-18
In this work, screen writer and director Carolyne Thompson and composer Danny Elfman, collaborators in such works as Edward Scissorhands, Nightmare Before Christmas, and others reunite to create their version of Anna Sewell's classic novel Black Beauty. Set in the English countryside in the late 1800s, the story is an autobiography of a horse narrated by that horse that speaks of the life and treatment of the equine in Victorian times. Miss Sewell wrote the work to raise consciousness about the ill treatment she witnessed. Despite moderate deviations from Sewell's text, Director Thompson captures its essence. This is a moving narrative about the innocence, trust, loyalty, betrayal and hope a horse experiences when he is at the behest of owners he has had no choice in selecting. Thompson, Elfman, the trainers and all the co-directors and associates are the real winners in this production as they collectively choreograph the beauty, freedom, frolic, banter, tragedy, cruelty and hope the non-human characters enjoy or endure. Commendable performances are given by Andrew Knott who plays the younger Joe Green, one of Beauty's grooms from his youth, and the good natured cabby Jerry Barker played by David Thewlis who purchases the horse and brings him out of his natural country setting into the cold hard streets of London. The contrast between the good and not-so-good owners Beauty had in the country and the cold entrepreneurial ownership of London is stark; it is marked well when he discovers there a former stable companion, a mare named Ginger whose friendship he greatly cherishes. Along with the cheerfully buoyant white pony Merrylegs, they had spent much time together in their former country dwellings before each was sold to different owners. Tragically, Ginger, by now broken through abusive treatment and overwork, looses her life. Commendable performances continue as Beauty's fortunes turn. He is sold again, this time to a hard driving dealer who forces the horse to pull carts laden with heavy sacks of grain. This treacherous labor eventually takes its toll as Beauty suffers a breakdown. Like Ginger, this once gallant colt full of life and spirit is reduced to a broken shadow bent over as he is once again taken to a fair to be sold. It is here that a groom of his youth, the older Joe Green, discovers him and takes him back to the golden pastures of his birth. Joe promises he will never be sold again. In a final pastoral setting, one year later, Beauty, after regaining his strength and spirit, rests upon a grassy mound beneath a tree and finishes his narrative, happy in the certainty that he will never be separated from his friends again.
For the horses alone, in particular the Quarter Horse `Docs Keepin Time' that performed the role of Black Beauty, this is a film well worth viewing in conjunction with reading or rereading Sewell's classic. Add to that the hauntingly beautiful score Danny Elfman provides and you have a marvel. The score hints at the co-existence of an inner-sadness and an inner-joy that Beauty wearily accepts as required.
Happy viewing (and keep a towel at hand).
FOR HORSE LOVERS ONLY !!!.......2007-05-13
THIS IS A SENTIMENTAL TALE THROUGH THE EYES AND VOICE OF A HORSE THAT HAS GOOD MOMENTS ANS BAD TIMES !!! NOT A CHILDS MOVIE !!! YOU WILL CRY AT TIMES AND SMILE AT TIMES !!!
Classic tale that never gets out-dated.......2007-01-27
My five year old daughter has now watched this a dozens times. She loves it. It does have sadness, but it has so many great values in it, and she totally sees that. It is a lovely film.
The DVD itself has no frills, and I can't attest to the pixels, etc. as my television is an old one.
Heart Warming.......2007-01-25
It does not matter if you are a horse lover or not you will love this movie, it is amazing I watched it at a friends house and then made the goal to buy it the next day. A movie you will definatly want on your self.
Black Beauty.......2007-01-12
This CD was purchased as a gift, and I am unable to give it a fair rating. I did however as a child enjoy the original movie.

Coming from the creators of Dumb & Dumber and There's Something About Mary, the sensitivity of Shallow Hal seems like a minor miracle. The codirecting Farrelly brothers haven't forsaken their lowbrow inclinations, but this clever romantic fantasy offers unexpected substance with the same comedic effrontery that made the Farrellys famous. Their antihero is Hal (Jack Black), whose fixation on beautiful women is reversed (after an encounter with self-help guru Tony Robbins) so he can see only the inner beauty of "undesirables" like his new girlfriend Rosemary (Gwyneth Paltrow), now gorgeous in Hal's eyes despite being grossly obese. The movie's handling of this conundrum is sweetly sincere, poking fun at social prejudices while validating those (overweight, homely, disabled) who are often heartbroken by Hal's brand of shallowness. The concept won't hold up to scrutiny (i.e., the movie trades one set of stereotypes for another), but Shallow Hal works as an often hilarious reminder that physical beauty is only skin deep. --Jeff Shannon
Customer Reviews:
A sweet and good-hearted film.......2007-06-23
I know the Farrelly Brothers reputation preceeds them, but this movie takes what they are infamous for and adds some heart and soul and the result if a nice little comic-romantic offering. Jack Black is, well, Jack Black as the title character, which tells you all you need to know. Jason Alexander is, well, Jason Alexander as Hal's buddy and does his George from Seinfeld best portrait in smarminess and manic exasperation. Gwyneth Paltrow is understated as the self-image challenged Rosemary and gets the job done without maudlin overacting. The movie comes with a heavy-handed but well intentioned moral and you come away from this movie with a bit of hope and even possibly a dash of inspiration opposed to just coming away from it with something in your hair or mustard down your throat.
a classic from the minute it hit the screen.......2007-05-03
The plot centers around Hal, a superficial twit who, to make a long story short, is hypnotized into perceiving every new person he meets as they really are inside. To him, the appearances of others become faithful representations of their inner natures.
A surprisingly deep premise, and the script certainly doesn't stumble with it. It's just hilarious.
Unfortunately, you kind of wish the writers had gone even further. The film shows how people who are fat or ugly on the outside can be beautiful on the inside.
What would have been nice is an exploration of how people who are ugly on the inside can also be ugly on the outside, or how those who are beautiful on the outside can also be truly beautiful on the inside, two possibilities that are cleanly overlooked by the filmmakers. Instead the film suggests that the nature of everything you see is, in fact, belied by its inner reality, quite a radical philosophical assertion when you think about it.
By the way, it may interest you to know that, spurred on to moral action by this film, I decided to finally go out on a date with an enormous woman who had repeatedly expressed interest in me. For a few days, I completely overlooked her appearance and listened to her carefully, making every effort possible to discover and appreciate the person inside.
Alas! She was truly as hideous on the inside as she was on the outside. So it's back to superficiality for me.
Oh well. The point is, this movie's full of laughs. Don't forget to check out the deleted scenes.
Hilarious.......2007-04-17
Ridiculous? Offensive? Raunchy?
A slight touch of the above, but overall a sweet movie with
some excellent zingers. (-:
A very funny comedy with a serious message.......2007-02-04
Jack Black stars as Hal, a shallow, less than perfect man with high standards who only sees woman as they appear. After a chance encounter with Tony Robbins in an elevator, he is hypnotized into only seeing the inner beauty within woman. So what used to be offensive in his eyes, suddenly becomes endearing and desirable.
Hal soon learns woman who he thinks are very beautiful and sexy are the very same woman he would look at in disgust and run away from. Thinking he has some sort of sex appeal to be able to attract stunning woman, he finds himself all of a sudden attracting woman wherever he goes, until he meets Rosemary, played by Gwyneth Paltrow, whom he quickly falls in love with.
Black plays the part of Hal perfectly, superbly mixing comedy with a blend of drama. There are many messages to be picked up throughout the movie, mainly that everyone can be a little shallow and that real beauty does come from within. I was surprised to learn that this was a Farrelly brothers movie as it does stray from their usual brand of humour, but definitely in a good way as this is their most mature film to date whilst still delivering some of their comedic brilliance at the same time.
I was also surprised to learn that Black regretted ever being a part of this film and considered himself a sell-out afterward, saying that this was not the sort of film he ever wanted to make, but was just lured to the attraction of working with the Farrelly brothers.
There are negatives to this film, Paltrow's acting was very blend I'm sorry to say, but in saying that I have never been a big fan of her's and Jason Alexanders charcter became very annoying as the film played out. But I have seen this film many times and still enjoy it and will keep on enjoying it for years to come. It was a great buy and one of the most treadured DVD's in my coleection. The best Farrelly brothers film in my opinion.

Description
Stockard Channing is Miriam, an "ugly duckling" who is dumped on by everyone. After her heart is broken by a callous campus jock, Miriam tearfully speeds off in her car and is involved in a serious accident. Plastic surgery is required, and when Miriam emerges from behind the bandages, she is ravishingly beautiful. It's payback time when she uses her new attractiveness to exact revenge on all those who wronged her. Edward Asner plays the police inspector who's hot on the trail of the femme fatale. A dark comedy written by Joan Rivers, THE GIRL MOST LIKELY TO... will leave you in stitches!
Customer Reviews:
The Girl Most Likely to............2007-06-11
Stockard Channing is one of my favorite actresses and in this, the first film I saw her in, I was amazed. It's a quirky tale, but quirky is good!
Live by the sward, die by the sward.......2007-05-06
Miriam Knight (Stockard Channing) is beautiful "on the inside." She just has a problem of looking rather not so beautiful on the out side. Life and many of her acquaintances have played cruel jokes on her.
She recovers from a bad auto accident and her out-nards are now readjusted to match her innards. However it is too late and she remembers those whom took advantage of her earlier situation.
Many people of different walks of life are meeting their demise in mysterious ways. It is up to Det. Ralph Varone (a very young Edward Asner) to make sense of this and possibly fall in love with the brilliant mind that can create the perfect crime.
Will Herman Anderson (Warren Berlinger) die a plumber's death?
Will Miriam find a man to love her for what is on the inside?
Will Ralph solve the mystery?
Can we stop laughing?
Interesting Movie.......2007-03-18
I had never seen this movie from start to finish until I recently purchased the DVD. It was interesting and humerous how Stockard Channing's movie character brought about the demise of those who had ridiculed her in the past. I rate this move 5 stars because due to the blend of comedy and criminal genius of Miriam Knight.
Finally on DVD!.......2007-02-01
I was very surprised to see that this movie was released on DVD. I don't think it was ever available on VHS, and if it was, it was years ago. This is a classic made-for-tv movie that I remember seeing in 1973. Seeing it again, it still has a great storyline. It was co-written by Joan Rivers, so you can see some of her comedy shining through. The video transfer is very clear for a made-for-tv movie. The sound is mono, but it's clear. Stereo sound for tv was years away back in 1973. If you are a fan of early '70s made-for-tv movies, Stockard Channing, or Joan Rivers, you will really like this movie.

This sophomore effort by Matty Rich seems surprisingly run-of-the-mill, considering his first film was the low-budget success story Straight Out of Brooklyn.
Set in Martha's Vineyard during the summer of '76, this feels very much like an updated, African American version of Summer of '42. Larenz Tate is the shy teen from New York who, along with his politically radical parents, vacations with wealthy Republican relatives. When not confiding in his wooden doll, he learns a little about life and even more about sex. Inkwell, by the way, is the name of the beach where the African American population of Martha's Vineyard owns homes.
Clumsily written and executed, this is sweet enough on the surface, but too slick to feel genuine. Also released as No Ordinary Summer. --Rochelle O'Gorman
Description
At Inkwell Beach, summer's never been so much fun! It's a time and a place where cool clothes, hot music, and good friends turn a dull family trip into the summetime vacation of a lifetime! Critics everywhere praised THE INKWELL -- the hot, big-screen comedy treat that delivers outrageous summertime fun and good time entertainment, all set to an irresistible soundtrack! Spend some time down at the shore with the funniest folks you're ever going to meet -- summer fun doesn't get any better than this!
Customer Reviews:
Good Movie Sidelined by Stupidity.......2007-02-25
What could have been a wonderful coming-of-age film dealing with many issues (relationships, conflicts, growing boys, disappointment, psychology, etc.) was absolutely sidelined by the unsuccessful attempts at over-the-top humor. Never have I seen adolescent boys behave the way the group were portrayed. It was simply another Fat Albert-style farcical attempt to make the boys and feuding brothers-in-law appear utterly ridiculous. The director/producers didn't know whether to make an outrageous comedy or a drama with moments of good humor. Regrettably, they made neither.
Such a shame, because many moments in this film were truly enlightening and poignant. This could have been a tremendous drama! A remake done correctly would be wonderful!
afro- american must have.......2005-07-28
this movie should be a part of every afro-american dvd collection, and should be watched at least yearly as a motivator.
Good Movie.......2003-08-20
This is a good movie. I never even heard of Matty Rich, and was unaware of the movie altogether until stumbled across it this year. I was thoroughly impressed with the performances of Larenz Tate and Jada Pinkett Smith.
As an aspiring writer myself, I look forward to hearing a lot more from Mr. Rich in the nearing future. I thought the film was well developed, with a believable plot, and excellent development of character. I also enjoyed the fact that the character in which Mr. Tate was sheltered about a lot of things that in today's society is considered the norm for some minorities. I appreciated that because in a society of where today's youth are so bombarded with so many different things, and it is progressively getting worse as of this writing, it is good to have African Americans portrayed in roles that are less than the norm.
I applaud Mr.Rich for his creativity and for gleaning on events that somehow magnificently pulled this incredible movie together.
Summer of '76.......2003-04-06
The comparisions to "Summer of '42" are inevitable. But aside from the coming of age story of both films, they are completely different. The "Inkwell" is essentially a Shaggy Dog tale that flows nicely from beginning to end. Give credit for Matty Rich's abililty to create an authentic '70's atmoshphere with the use of very little of that era's well known music ("Dancing Machine" and "Let's Get It On" are the only two). ...

How often dow we see movies about a teenage brother's coming of age that aren't violent or gang-related? Matty Rich(whatever he's doing now) did a superb job directing this film about an awkward teen vacationing with his parents in Martha's Vineyard visiting his well-to-do relatives.
He falls for the snot-nose Lauren who uses him to get back at her boyfriend who dropped her. Meanwhile he is also looking out for a married woman whose husband is cheating on her with other women.
It's a movie about growing up and what it means to be a person. Do all black movies have to be based on gang warfare and lewed sexual conduct?

Description
Carnelle isn't happy with her life, so in order to improve herself she enters a local beauty contest, trying to emulate her cousin Elain's win many years ago. Few think she can win, even her closest friends and relatives (e.g. slightly mad cousin Delmount) think she's heading for a big disappointment, but Carnelle is ever hopeful, seeing a win as a ticket to escape her small town in Mississippi.

Hits and Misses.......2006-11-19
This is in fact an art film, featuring splendid acting and a plot that is barely coherent. Two major characters in the story, and several scenes, don't seem to belong at all. Three cheers for Mary Steenburgen and Holly Hunter. The problem seems to fall on the director, whose choppy and confusing style may leave many wondering why they bothered to spend the time with this movie.
Another success!.......2005-08-29
I am pleased with the inventory you keep, I am very happy to have this hard top find DVD. The price was reasonable and the transaction was very quick and easy!
Finally it's on DVD!!!!.......2004-08-15
I love this movie. I don't know why I even ever watched the movie on the first place, I guess just 'cause my mom bought it at a yard sale a few years ago and we had it to watch. Well, it's become one of my favorite movies of all time. The only bad thing is that it's hard for me to see Holly Hunter as anything else but Carnell Scott or Alfre Woodard as anything but Popeye in any other roles. If you like it, the DVD is a must have. I wish it had more features like commentaries by the director/cast. But it's better than nothing.
"There's Always Eternal Grace"-Henley's Play Brought To Life.......2004-07-09
Contemporary playwright, Beth Henley's ("Crimes Of The Heart") "The Miss Firecracker Contest" is brought to life and to the big screen.
The film features an incredible Holly Hunter as the tramp of the town turned wanna-be good girl beauty queen Carnelle Scott. Carnelle was an abandoned little girl who was dropped off at her aunt's house in Yazoo City not more than a year old with ringworm, diaper rash and a bag of dirty rags.
Deeply intense, Tim Robbins as cousin Delmount Williams (recently out of a mental ward) and the beautiful Mary Steenburgen as Elain Rutledge (a forever young beauty queen) grew up with young Carnelle in their household and under their mother's care and Carnelle is more like a sister to them than a cousin.
After Carnelle works on her talent routine for FIVE years and then dyes her hair a bright red, she gets up enough gumption to enter the Yazoo City Miss Firecracker Contest!
Enter Alfre Woodard as Popeye, the local seamstress that learned her trade at the tender age of four - sewing costumes and clothes for the Yazoo City's neighborhood bullfrogs! Carnelle hires Popeye to help her with her costumes for the beauty pageant. All Popeye wants to do is move to Elysian Fields (a funny and touching scene inthe movie) to forget about her troubles and eat ambrosia all the live long day.
A week before the pageant, the carnival shows up in town with all it's pretty lights and fun rides. Scott Glenn as the carnie, Mac Sam has a romantic history with Carnelle and is certainly dying of lung and kidney failure when he shows up in Yazoo City in the year 1988. This year will be his last for a Firecracker Celebration.
It seems Carnelle has a reputation around town and that she slept with any guy that crossed her path just so they would tell her that she was beautiful back in her younger years. EVEN a YOUNG Mr. Richard Fish from Ally McBeal (Greg Germann) makes an appearance as one of Carnelle's old lovers and is a total hick of a peanut throwin', hootin' and hollarin' idiot, by the name of Ronnie Wayne. Ann Wedgewood as emcee, Miss Blue and Amy Wright (Rose Leary from The Accidental Tourist) as hunch-backed beauty contestant Missy Mahoney also have small but great parts!
If only Carnelle wins the Miss Firecracker Contest, she will finally feel the acceptance and satisfaction she has longed for all her life. Is it Carnelle's chance to shine? What happens between Popeye and Delmount? Does Elain leave her husband?
Turn on, tune in and watch to see what happens!
This movie isn't a chick flick by any means. It's really a TRAGECOMEDY with happy, funny, sad, and downright depressing moments that make you think...Hmmmmmm.
Happy Watching!
Holly Hunter, Tim Robbins, and Mary Steenburgeen are great.......2004-05-03
This movie is so funny and at the same time very sad. It takes
place in Yazoo City Mississippi. Every year there is a big fair
and the high point in the Miss Firecracker Contest. Holly Hunter
worships her cousin Elaine played to perfection by Mary Steenburgeen. Elaine was once a winner in the Miss Firecracker
Contest, and Holly Hunter wants to enter. Elaine has come back
to deliver a speech as she has moved on and made a successful
life for herself. Holly Hunter has no confidence and it means
everything to her to win. The movie is full of crazy characters
and really shows southern life. Tim Robbins plays Mary Steenburgeen's brother and Holly Hunter's cousin. He is so
funny in this movie. Holly Hunter is great as the girl trying
so hard to win. Mary Steenburgeen is beautiful as a past winner
but her character is vain and selfish. This movie is so funny
and you will love it. Great acting, story, script, and cast

Description
A hypnotized playboy (Jack Black) who can only see "inner beauty" doesn't realize that his gorgeous girlfriend (Gwyneth Paltrow) is actually a 300-pound-not-so-hottie. "Heartwarming and hilarious" (WFLD-TV), it's the BIGGEST love story ever told!

Description
A milestone of the Czech New Wave, Milos Forman's first color film The Firemen's Ball (Horí, má panenko) is both a dazzling comedy and a provocative political satire. A hilarious saga of good intentions confounded, the story chronicles a firemen's ball where nothing goes right-from a beauty pageant whose reluctant participants embarrass the organizers to a lottery from which nearly all the prizes are pilfered. Presumed to be a commentary on the floundering Czech leadership, the film was "banned forever" in Czechoslovakia following the Russian invasion and prompted Forman's move to America.
Customer Reviews:
poignant and subtle political satire.......2007-01-27
Milos Forman's 'fireman's ball' is a classic among political satires.. It is remarkable that a film so subtle would be condemned by the czech government. It, in fact, appears harmless to our sensibilities today.. this indicates just how repressive the czech government was at the time.. Not to indicate any superiority in the U.s. (think of all the books and movies that have sadly been censored and banned from schools and the like here)... The fact is this film is a great satire of a desperate nation - forman comments on the common phrase of the time - if you do not steal you are stealing from your family.
The technical aspects of the film are also spot on.. It is perfectly formed and sculpted at 73 min.. as elegant as a Borges short story.. highly recommended viewing.
Otto! Ottiku!.......2006-09-17
Hori, ma panenko (Firemen's Ball) is perhaps the finest example of the fresh, amusing, and humane style of the Czech New Wave. Milos Forman's movie is funny, sweet, and highly memorable. This is one of my very favorite films. Look especially for Josef Kolb and Milada Jezkova as an honest fireman and his perhaps less-than-honest wife; they are especially charming in this fine, mostly non-professional cast of real Czech firemen and townspeople.
A little disappointed.......2006-08-03
It's being hailed as one of Milos Forman's greatest films. He moved to America from Czechoslovakia after his film was banned "forever" in that country. I did find it somewhat amusing.
When a fireman's ball dissolved into anarchy, the movie then became truly interesting. One actor had a gift for showing a lot of emotions with his face and I enjoyed watching him. I suppose that the film says a lot about small town life in that country at the time it was made, and it certainly wasn't flattering. But the government must have been way too sensitive to make a fuss over a little bit of self-deprecating humor. I think the average Czech citizen would recognized a little of themselves and chuckled.
Sweet and subversive, gentle and sly.......2006-05-26
So is The Fireman's Ball a gentle look at the human comedy or is it a sly and subversive poke in the nose of an inept, authoritarian government? Perhaps we should take the word of director Milos Forman. It's just a gentle comedy, he'd shrug in his native Czechoslovakia after the picture was released in 1967. Of course it's subversive, he'd say, after he'd had to flee his country in 1968, when Soviet tanks were sent in to install a tougher, duller brand of Communist leaders and to snuff out the brief Prague Spring. How subversive? The new Czech leadership immediately banned the movie "permanently and forever." With all this, it's still one of the sweetest, most good-natured looks at how people behave, even their leaders, who are undoubtedly among the most bumbling, self-serving and incompetent group of men you'd ever hope to not meet.
In a small Czechoslovakian town the leadership of the fire department is planning a ball and raffle to honor their aged former chief. They'd planned to the year before on his 85th birthday but, well, they never quite got around to it. Now he's dying of cancer and they feel they really ought to do something. There will be a great banner in the meeting hall, a dance with drinks and food, a beauty contest featuring the town's young women, and a great raffle of donated delicacies, bottles of wine and toys and cosmetics.
But, oh. One thing after another happens with sweet irony, The banner burns. The girls don't want to take part. And slowly, item by item, things begin to go missing from the raffle table...first a chocolate cake, then a bottle of cognac, a head cheese, a chocolate ball. "Every one is stealing here," the wife of one blustering fireman tells him., "and you only watch, you old honest idiot!" She's the one with the stolen headcheese in her bag. The firemen's entertainment committee, a group of puffed-up aging men, dither and bicker endlessly over the details and the problems. "Busts...busts are important" is one thing they all agree on as they examine candidates for the beauty contest.
At one point the head of the firemen's committee stops the music and tells the crowd that some items have been taken from the raffle table. He says the lights will go out for a few minutes and he expects the items to be returned. The lights go off. The lights come back on. And even more items from the table are missing.
It all looks like the ball will eventually end in a shambles, but then they hear an alarm. A farm house is on fire nearby. The firemen and the townsfolk rush to the fire and manage to rescue an aged farmer in his underwear. But the fire engine is stuck in the snow. There's no water pressure. The farm house burns down to the ground. But at least the firemen find a way to comfort the cold, old man. While he watches his possessions burn, they suggest he move his chair closer to the fire to keep warm.
This is such a wry and gentle comedy, so sweet-natured, that it is reassuring to realize that the leaden hand of Czech authoritarianism is now long gone, and that this movie remains for all of us.
This Criterion presentation looks and sounds just fine. There is an excellent interview with Milos Forman.
A bundle of laughs.......2005-08-31
Watching "The firemen's ball" as a teenager on German television in the late sixties, I recall that I never laughed about any other film as much as I have about this one - and I wasn't even stoned! An absolute must for people who enjoy rolling around on the floor for a good healthy laugh. Not being able to remember the actual title for many years, I started browsing on amazon.com and was thrilled to find it. I recommend this to anybody who loves to "let their hair down" every once and while.

Description
You think you've seen it on HBO's Real Sex. You think you saw it all on Playboy's Sexcetera. Well, you ain't seen nothing yet! Club 55 and Jade Dragon Productions present "The 2003 Miss Black Nude Pageant," and this year it goes international! Celebrating the pageant's 10th anniversary and shot entirely on location at the beautiful and sexy Hedonism II resort in Negril, Jamaica, the film is an exciting, erotic look at the pageant in front of and behind the scenes. Feel the essence, beauty and excitement of the pageant, as well as the beautiful women involved. The Miss Black Nude Pageant was created and organized in 1992 by Deloris Dickson, owner of Club 55 in Washington, D.C. Inspired by the Miss America Pageant, Ms. Dickson felt that there should be a showcase for female exotic dancers who could compete not only on their skills as dancers but also present their other talents. The one-day pageant expanded into a four-day competition and showcases not only the contestants' physical attributes but their talent and personalities as well. After receiving rave revues in a local music magazine, Club 55 was on its way.

a bit too few..........2007-02-08
A lot of beautiful young black women. But they have been a bit avaricious with the complete nude scenes, less that a minute for each girl (Men buy this DVD only for that). And the girls keep on their shoes... The lighting is neither ideal. Next time, please "pure nature" in daylight, and without shoes!
Miss Black Nude Pageant.......2007-01-04
I like it.
It shows beautiful black woman in artist way.
Could Have Been 90 Percent Better.......2006-01-26
This DVD was such a disappointment, a waste of time and money. I wasn't really eager to see nudity as I can see that 24-7 in movies, dvd or cable. What I did want to see was a nicely produced event featuring the beautiful sexy black women that were on the cover. I prefer the title SHAKE DANCE, which gave an insight on the women and their stories. It's all about the production. I would not recommend buying this.
To Hell With The DVD, Get Down There!!!!!!.......2005-09-09
The Dvd has nothing on it thats good enough to actually buy. It's alot of crap. Now i did give the Dvd 5 stars but thats because unlike other people that have rated this, i have actually been there live. There is nothing like the resort Hedonism in Negril Jamaica. All inclusive which means you drink and eat 24-7 for free as long as you have a room. Why get the dvd when the females that actually perform in this so called contest are actually strippers from a club in Washington D.C. That being said, you have 2 choices... 1. Get your ticket and go to Jamaica where you can actually touch, taste and have sex with these women or 2. Go to Washington D.C. and do the same thing. But as a friend, don't buy this Dvd. It's a watered down version of what really goes on in one of the freakiest spots in the world.
DISAPPOINTMENT.......2004-11-16
This DVD turned out to be such a disappointment. I was expecting something along the lines of the HBO documentary on Club 55's pageant but instead got an over-produced DVD with not much appeal. I thought the editing and the split-screen slow motion sequences were unnecesary and ambiguous. The original HBO series showed much more nudity and showed the models in such natural states. There was no backstage banter included in this one, The original documentary showed the participants in a nude outdoor funfest. This DVD had them in some type of bikini with a sponsor's name on it. This DVD was much too commercial and overly edited and produced. Was not natural at all and was thusly a big disappointment. I would not recommend at all buying it...
