Learn to Read with Phonics-Short & Long Vowels.......2007-03-31

The cute little girl on the front is no where on the video. The female instructor uses a dry erase board to write word families. She sounds out the words as she spells them then repeats the word after writing it. There is an excellent vignette at the end of the DVD in which the dialogue is written at the bottom of the screen. It includes phonetic words with the short vowels. There are no cartoon characters or cute songs or graphics, but it does teach what it claims in the title. It is a great "substitute teacher" for me when I am temporarily busy. Then I reinforce the lesson without the DVD. Great purchase.

The material is very good. My 6 yr old loves the dvd and reads/learn/plays along. I am re-learning phonics and now realize that I may have mislead her in sounding words while trying to help her be a better reader.

We prefer Leap Frog series.......2006-05-17

This second volume is certainly superior in video quality to the first volume, and it is educational. However, we are disturbed by the prolonged boxing scene between two children where spectators cheer for hitting abilities, and the use of the exclamation "shut up!" We find that the Leap Frog series provides similarly good education, more captivating entertainment, and no troubling content.

Cute, 3 year olds love it..........2006-02-24

I can tell you that after my kids learned the alphabet this was probably the best introduction to short vowels. They like to say things like "dddoooogggg"... that begins with d and ends in g. However recently we had an argument over the word banana, as one twin calls it a "nana" and the other uses "banana", so the argument was over this word started with a "b" or a "n". This video has a catchy song and shows all sorts of short vowel words (mat, sat, cat, etc.). Really awesome video.

Give Your Child A Head Start!!!!.......2005-08-02

I purchased this DVD for my six year old daughter. We can not get her to turn it off!!! It has also traveled around to all of the neighbors until I finally made them buy their own copy! This DVD reviews the consonants while focusing on short vowel sounds. My daughter can now read all of the sight words. I read on Mindations website that they are coming out with a poetry book in the fall. I am already on the waiting list for 3!! Perfect gifts for any child. A must buy!!!

Reading At Its Best!!!.......2004-09-17

My daughter recently started first grade. She had some problems "breaking the phonics code." I purchased this video and she is totally addicted! Her teacher saw a difference immediately. In fact, the teacher used the DVD as a teaching tool for the entire primary department. My daughter has not stopped singing the 'Short Vowel Song.' I recently purchased multiple copies for birthday gifts. This DVD is a must have for any child learning to read.

This video combined music, vocabulary words, pictures, and wonderful stories for each vowel to enable the toddler to early reader to grasp the "short" vowel sounds in a fun, and interesting way. My son's kindergarten class loved it! They were reading along with the vocabulary words and singing the catchy song by the end! I don't think there is anything out there like this! It's a must have for your collection!

Short vowel video .......2004-07-23

My toddler daughter loves this video! It was recommended by a friend who is an early education teacher. She loves the song and I even heard her trying to sing it! She can identify certain letters now and it definitely keeps her interested. It is a great learning video and I hope there will be a long vowel video in the future.
