Life is tough for a fish out of water, but in the Kingdom of Goode, landlocked fish provide an amusing metaphor for A Tale of Patience. This 35-minute animated parable follows a fish named Phoose and his scaly cohorts as they cope with a nasty drought. Somehow, these ingenious friends manage to "swim" above the broiling desert sands, and complain about their plight in Scottish, Jamaican, and New Jersey accents. Their shared impatience almost leads to their demise. But a friendly flea, well schooled in meteorology, successfully begs them to exercise patience. It's an odd tale with a valuable message, made palpable by layers of bold, hypnotic animation and rousing musical numbers. Preschoolers--who may or may not get the point--find this wild blend of colors, shapes, and sounds oh so enthralling. This video comes from So Smart! Productions, the creative force behind such award-winning child development shows as Musical Instruments and Colors. --Liane Thomas

1 out of 5 stars Big disappointment.......2003-10-19

I bought this DVD for my daughter's first year but she just wouldn't watch it for more than a couple of minutes. I put it away and hoped she would enjoy it later on. She is almost two and can't stand it for more than five minutes. So I guess when she is a teenager she might like it! ;-) She loves other videos: Baby Einstein series, Sesame Street and Barney. So, save your money and look elsewhere for educational videos.

5 out of 5 stars Good family values.......2003-07-06

I bought all three in the series for my children. My daughter loves this video, and my 3 year old sits and watches also. Its got good old fashioned values, great stores and interesting characters. There are few dvds like this on the market, a wonderful story.

5 out of 5 stars Outstanding and original product.......2003-01-23

Top line: This video is outstanding, as are the other two in the series. My four-year old son and I highly recommend it and we hope SoSmart! Quickly adds more titles.

We bought this product because of our satisfaction with other SoSmart! titles (such as "Colors", "First Words", and "Shapes"). We were not disappointed. My son has a lot of videos (Disney, Baby Einstein, Nickelodeon, you name it)... this video and the other two in the series are the best video products for children that we own. My son has asked to see all three videos over and over again. The colorful and original animation, fantastic songs (as an almost professional shower singer I love singing along - they are wonderful), and clear moral make it a hit with our entire family.
