Product Description
Selected by Fit Pregnancy magazine as a 2006 Editors Pick, this program has three yoga routines and three guided relaxations to help you be more comfortable now and prepare you for childbirth. The routines can be done separately or linked together for longer practice sessions. Equal emphasis is given to movement, breath, and relaxation. OPEN: seated and kneeling poses to connect your body, mind and breath. Breathing lesson -- full flowing breath. (25 min.) FOCUS: standing and seated poses to energize and build strength. Breathing lesson -- deep 'ocean' breath. (35 min.) SURRENDER: floor poses to help you relax and release. Breathing lesson -- space between breaths. (20 min.) Use the 10-minute guided relaxations to end your practice, or do them on their own for a restful break in your day. FLOWER, FEATHER and CLOCK appeal to different senses to help you relax, release tension, connect more deeply with your baby, and replenish your energy. "As the former editor of a yoga magazine, I've seen a lot of yoga videos. This is one of the best -- pregnant or not. It's clear and concise, and the relaxations at the end are fantastic for overwhelmed moms-to-be." Hillari Dowdle. [See also our companion DVD "Prenatal Sun Salute: An Energizing Yoga Practice" and CD "Deep Relaxations for Pregnancy."]
Customer Reviews:
Awesome Prenatal Yoga DVD.......2007-04-19
I'm not a huge yogie, but did do some yoga -about once/week before PG. I love the flexibility of doing my Yoga at home, so I wanted a DVD and not a class. This DVD is perfect!! It has three routines -
* seated and kneeling poses
* standing and seated poses
* side lying poses
and you can do one, two or all three at a time. (the range from 23 -32 mins each). Also, there are three different relaxation routines that you can choose from. (approx 10 mins each)
The workout feels just right for me. If I was a serious yogie I might want a bit more strenuous of a workout - but it's certainly more than enough to get the energy and blood moving and some good stretches, and get that great 'after yoga' feeling going. Of course you can reach/stretch more or less. The instructions are super clear too.
They include lots of modifications to do as you get bigger so I think that will be good too. AND...it's true yoga from a real yoga studio - centering breaths and balance etc. and not just doing the poses -that was important to me.
Lastly, they have practice sheets that you can download and take with you if you are traveling -which is very handy.
this is wonderful throughout pregnancy and postpartum.......2006-12-14
This is a really gentle yoga program that can be as challenging as you make it. I was able to use the DVD from the time I found out I was pregnant, and I am restarting my yoga practice with it after having given birth a month ago. I have practiced yoga for over 20 years and was still impressed with the quality of this DVD and the 3 sessions and 3 relaxations.
Next Best Thing to Yoga Class.......2006-01-31
This is my second pregnancy and I don't have time to make it to classes like I did the first time around. I've used several prenatal exercise dvds and have found this to be one of the best, mainly because the instuctions are very clear. It might not be for you if you're looking for something to get your heart rate up, etc. but it is a great yoga workout.
Wonderful Prenatal Yoga Practice.......2005-12-08
I am eight months pregnant and have used this wonderful yoga practice DVD since 14 weeks into my pregnancy. What a great resource! Not only do the three routines help me to safely exercise and "decompress" after a hectic day, but I know that I'm learning poses and breathing techniques that can help prepare my body and mind for labor. I have taken this DVD on business trips so I could continue my yoga practice in the hotel room - what a relief after hours on an airplane! I also attend Patty Slote's prenatal yoga class and she does a wonderful job of recreating the relaxing class environment in the video. As a woman at the end of the third trimester (and experiencing new discomforts daily), I definitely recommend this DVD.
Excellent Yoga Video.......2005-11-25
I bought this video early on but have been too sick to even try it... I'm now 22 weeks pregnant and finally able to feel like trying it! It is wonderful! It has three different routines and it great! Very easy to follow. Try it out!!

Not Enjoyable at all.......2007-06-14
I have many workout videos and bought three for pregnancy. This one I would not recommend. It is not a comfortable enjoyable workout, you are upside down most of the time and when you are pregnant that is not a good position and it makes it hard to enjoy the workout. Also my new DVD came with Sara's voice going at a high rate of speed, it is weird and annoying. I would however, recommend Leisa Hart's Fit Mama prenatal workout for fun salsa dancing cardio and yoga segments as well as stretches and relaxation. And Quick Fix Pre Natal workout, which is three 10 minute workouts, so you can do them anytime, even when you don't have much time or energy!
the best prenatal yoga.......2007-06-04
My compliments to Sara Holliday's. This is the best prenatal yoga dvd that I found so far. And I'm actually so happy with it that I stoped looking for any others. Sarah gives you a 30 mins of very relaxing yoga. Her voice is beautifuly soothing and the natural setting are so wonderful. First she works out the upper body, stretching shoulders and relaxing all the shoulder/neck area where the tension sets. After she concentrates on the lower body part, working lots with the harmstrings, stretching and strenghtening those muscles. She encourages everyone to follow its own rythm, to follow everyone's breath and their own pace during the asanas (yoga postures). I love that the workout takes 30 mins as it can perfectly fit into most people's schedule. Sum up, you will strech, strenghten and relax all your pregnant body :). I highly recommend this DVD to any pregnant woman. Thanks Sara!
great length, good work-out.......2007-05-25
I got this dvd the day I hit my 3rd trimester. I didn't pay enough attention to realize that there was an actual 3rd trimester dvd (which I will probably now order). I enjoyed doing the work-out. I have Shiva Rea's prenatal yoga dvd as well. Sara Holliday's is much shorter and I feel like I've worked a lot harder. I have 2 little ones to chase while pregnant with my 3rd, so anything longer than this is too long for me to get thru. I was surprised at how long some of the positions were held, but of course I'm further along than most users would be, so it's a little more challenging for me. I do recommend this work-out.
Short and Effective.......2007-05-08
I love this DVD because I can do it in the morning before work. It's short enough and easy enough to do at 5:30 AM. I would not advise doing this DVD while pregnant with a full stomach. That's why I prefer this in the morning on an empty stomach.
very relaxing.......2007-04-06
This video is great for the morning or when you are a bit tired. I am used to 60m ashtanga yoga so this video was a bit slow and basic for me. However, this video is incredibly relaxing. The birds chirping in the background are peaceful. Sara looks wonderful pregnant. But if you are looking for a little more intensity, I do not suggest this video.

Basic, good advice for pregnancy yoga.......2007-07-07
I like this video alot, though it was pretty easy for someone who has been doing Yoga for a while. I have a young baby and another one on the way, so going to class is impossible and it was good for me to see the variations on certain asanas for pregnancy. There are a lot of extras on here too... so I'm excited about those. Basically, good value and very helpful for nine months :)
Impressive!! High quality filming........2007-06-18
Though I am only in the first trimester, I enjoyed this DVD. I found it relaxing, simple, and adequate for exercise.
I also really liked the special features, the lighting, the set, and the models/guides. It was a calming dvd, free of annoying instructor voices or prop errors.
It's an OK video.......2007-04-27
I'm not really into yoga, have taken a few classes here and there, but by no means an expert. I felt this video was a little too slow and unchallenging for me, like I wasn't getting much of a workout. If you want something to relax and strech you, this video is for you. Otherwise if you are looking for something that is more of a 'workout' where you sweat, I would advise another video.
A great buy.......2007-03-23
I was new to yoga and found this fun and it releived my lower back pain.
a definite must for pregos.......2007-01-04
I really enjoyed this dvd and still use it even though my son is almost 1 yr old

Poor Audio .......2007-02-24
The audio on this DVD was so badly done I couldn't even bear to watch more than five minutes, let alone do any of the workout. I was really looking forward to it, but the white noise in the background is so distracting and unnerving it wasn't worth the annoyance.
good.......2007-01-17
I like this work out, I haven't done it as much as I would like though, I skip parts that take to much set up (not a lot of set up is needed from what I remember). I had to go out and buy a few things though before I could start this - a small ball, a yoga mat (sticky one is what they suggest, I tried to not use one and pulled a muscle), a stool I borrowed from a friend, and I used the pole from our broom after I detached the end.
Dissappointed.......2006-11-23
May be if you have been doing Pilates before you know how many props are required. I was dissappointed when I received the DVD but could not do the exersize because I did not have the props. Also it was hard to follow the first time I was doing the routine; however I could feel how some of the poses could be very useful
Great for pregnancy and recovery from C-section.......2006-10-27
I've been meaning to write this for 6+ months because I am so grateful for this DVD. I did this program 2-3x a week starting second trimester before my son was born (I was too nauseaus during 1st trimester to do anything). I credit it for my fast, good recovery from my C-section. Yes, it is long. But it is worth it - particularly the leg lunges. And 2-3x a week seemed to be enough. (and my son was born early so I did not do it all 3rd tri). My legs were strong enough to get me out of bed relatively easily. And, particularly because of the leg lunge work, I knew how to lift myself and my baby using my (now stronger) legs and not my back or my tender abdomen. Jennifer is easy to follow, and they have a good demonstration for all 3 trimesters at the same time (though the 2nd tri person doesn't look 2nd tri!) This is not a dripping sweat DVD, and I am not an avid exercises or pilates person (Pilates for Dummies was enough for me pre-pregnancy, which I have also reviewed). But this was a good, basic work out, it made me feel good during pregnancy, and gave me the tone to have a good recovery afterwards (alas, I bought, but have not tried her C-section recovery DVD - not enough time as a stay at home Mom! I'm going back to Pilates for Dummies at home because it is shorter). I only wish the Amazon posting had warned me before purchase that I needed a ball, a stool, a pole, and some weights. But I made do with a rolled up towel for a ball, a paint brush extension rod (the one you screw the brush into) and a small step stool (I already had 2 lbs weights, but you can use books or something like that).
Not worth the time or money.......2006-09-28
I have done this video once and will not do it again. It is indeed slow-paced and boring. I did not find Jennifer to be a good instructor. She doesn't explain the moves as she does them, hence you are having to constantly look at the tv rather than keep proper form and actually do the exercises correctly. It all seems to be inconsistent, and per the previous review, the left/right and counting is off. She also does not give many reminders to keep proper form, which for me is a biggie, as I tend to forget pretty easily. Because of this, my back was sore afterwards.
Prepregnancy I was fit, and have been working out at the gym, so those who are not may get a little more out of this low-key workout, but some of the exercises will be impossible for you to do.
Average customer rating:
- Low quality cinemetography, but EXCELLENT series of poses
- Insufficient explanation - not a good yoga video
- Feels good!
- Good for beginners and those feeling sick in the first trimester

Customer Reviews:
Low quality cinemetography, but EXCELLENT series of poses.......2007-06-22
I am a person who loves special features, extravagent sets, and perfect costumes. At first, I was put off by the apparent low-budget set. After I did the practice, I began to appreciate the instructor's effectivenss and choice of rotine. Its one of the only prenatal yoga videos that have strengthening and toning as a focus, rather than relaxing or stretching. Most of the poses are standing poses, similar to a real yoga class. Many other prenatal yoga dvds are designed to be "generic"... I mean that its okay for all stages of pregnancy. This one is unique because it doesn't modify to be too easy.
If you have done yoga in a studio, you will probably like this dvd. If you do yoga to relax rather than tone, it probably is not what you want.
A word about the instructor - she has a confident voice, not whinny or breathy. She also looks like an athlete - a swimmer or something. She is very strong looking. Also- she did not indicate that she was actually pregnant at the time of filming- only that she did these type of things during her pregnancy.
I will do this the next time I am pregnant.
Insufficient explanation - not a good yoga video.......2007-06-06
I bought all three series of prenatal yoga and I regret it. This video does not offer walk throughs on how to do many of the poses. She just quickly changes from one pose to the next, without explaining how to do it, give you time to inhale or exhale properly, show you where and how to position hands and feet for support, or how to twist core body, etc. Both her verbal explanations and visuals leave me frustrated, wondering if I should position the hands one way or another for a particular pose. What is worse, the camera does not follow many of her important movements, focusing sometimes only on her face or on a detail of her shirt, instead of showing how she is positioning her arms, hand, toes, etc. even when she puts them behind her body -- these are important details in yoga, because incorrect poses can lead to injuries.
Feels good!.......2007-03-01
I have done yoga before, but am definitely not very flexible. I can actually do these poses and feel like I'm getting a good stetch, and it's not sooo challening that I feel totally sore the next day. I like walking and am even still running some on the days I don't do the yoga, and it's a great opportunity to do more stretching and toning than I would get otherwise. Sara is a great instructor and very easy to follow. Unlike another reviewer who really liked the relaxation portion at the end, I tend to fast-forward through it...but over all I've really enjoyed it and I'm really motivated to do it because I feel like I'm doing something good for the growing baby! It's nice that Sara has a new video for each trimester, because I'm just beginning to get excited about trying a new one!
Good for beginners and those feeling sick in the first trimester.......2007-01-09
The poses were very easy, which is good for women not feeling well in the first trimester and can't handle having their heart rate above normal. For more experienced women or women feeling OK, it was too easy
great for beginners or advanced.......2006-11-21
I have never done Yoga before, nor am i very flexible, so this video was the perfect challenge for me. Knowing that the workout I am doing is good for my pregnancy and my baby is very calming to me. i have been so afraid to do the wrong exercises since being pregnant. While this DVD is relaxing, it was challenging enough to give me that feeling like i did a tough workout. I also had a friend of mine do it with me who has done yoga before and is not pregnant and she loved the workout as well. She said it was very relaxing to her and she felt like her muscles were challenged too. So i am confident that all levels will enjoy this work-out.

Pregnancy calls upon a woman's physical, mental, and emotional resources like no other life experience. Part of the highly touted Yoga Zone exercise series, this prenatal fitness program gives equal time to meeting all three of these demands and delivers an invigorating yoga routine in the process. Yoga master Alan Finger expertly coaches his wife, Greta (seven months pregnant here)--and viewers--through 35 minutes of instruction. He begins with a tremendously helpful and informative lesson on proper breathing and posture, followed by evenly paced segments of stretching, strengthening and balancing, more stretching, and relaxation. While Greta quietly moves into each pose, Alan gently guides viewers through nearly every sensation and benefit to be achieved by following her lead. His narration is constant but never distracting; rather, his reminders about ideal alignment, complete bodily awareness, and focused breathing add to the overall excellence of this tape. Designed to build a sense of power, peace, and strength in the mother, Postures for Pregnancy also strives to bring love, health, and radiance to the growing child. A solid choice for pregnant yoga students of all skill levels who appreciate detailed guidance. --Liane Thomas

Not for Intermediate Yogis.......2007-05-09
This would be good for someone who has never taken yoga before. I was slightly put off that a man was talking all about the poses that are beneficial to a woman's body during pregnancy and delivery. I doubt he has ever been pregnant so I find it hard to relate to. Plus there is no real flow, it does not feel like a full practice but rather how to do some basic poses. There were one or two poses that felt pretty good, but they are basic moves that you would probably find in any other dvd.
My back feels better for 2 days after doing this DVD.......2007-02-01
I know the host can be a bit long winded at times, I agree with that. But for me the proof is in the pudding, I feel SO much better for the two days after I have done this DVD. What I find is, while it is old, and it is not fancy with a beautiful resort background, it does what it needs to do, and that is tell me how to propperly do poses in order to stretch out my body and prepare myself for childbirth. I love and admire Yoga Zone's attention to detail when describing a pose, right down to something as simple as how you have your hand turned that makes a surprising difference in how the pose is felt. I never feel pressure to push myself deeper than my body should go into a pose. The other Yoga DVD I purchased was quite frankly terrible, I don't even know if I could truly call it yoga as it seemed to lack any of the poses that truly did my body good. It actually left me feeling worse, as if I had done something to knock myself out of alignment. I trust Yoga Zone to have well researched videos that include poses that are safe and beneficial. I do not need to be told by a yoga DVD to envision myself "squatting in a forest and giving birth to my child in another country" (and I am not joking, the other DVD actually said that) What I need is a yoga DVD that makes my body feel better and helps release the stress and tension of carrying a baby, and this DVD does that for me.
A thoroughly obnoxious video........2006-12-21
A friend loaned this to me and I didn't realize at first that it is a man guiding, because the picture on the front is of a pregnant woman in a posture. I can't believe the chutzpah of this man, telling us what postures are best for pregnancy and what feels the most balanced, etc. At one point he even says something like, "This posture is the best for feeling centered in your body and makes it MUCH easier to push the baby out during labor". And he says it with such authority... how would he know that?!! I'm sure there is no shortage of wonderful, female, yoga teachers who have had children and can speak about these things with true authority. Yoga Zone should find one - it would give their product a lot more credibility. Ladies, please don't insult yourselves by giving your attention and money to yet another man who claims to be able to inform you of the best ways to prepare for childbirth and to give birth. As far as the postures themselves go, they are just very basic yoga postures - nothing out of the ordinary. He does go much too fast for my taste.
Needs update.......2006-04-21
I am a longtime fan of Yoga Zone products, so when I received the pregnancy video, I was a bit disappointed to find that it wasn't to the caliber of the Yoga Zone Videos I am used to. It was obviously a low-budget film, and probably filmed some time in the early 80's (the gray headed yoga master Alan Finger actually has brown hair in this video!)in what looks to be the couples home. Having said this, the instruction on form is very good, as it always is with Yoga Zone, especially for 1st timers to yoga. Yoga Zone, please make an update!!
Great instructions.......2005-07-28
I used this DVD and ZenMama almost daily toward the end of my pregnany. Since I was new at yoga, it was really helpful to have Alan give specific directions about form. I know that practicing yoga helped me during delivery. For variety, I had ZenMama. I recommend this DVD highly.

Great DVD!.......2007-01-31
I DONT EXERCISE ALL THAT MUCH. just the ocassional walk. but i knew that my labor would be easier if i did. so i thought i'd try this. and i love it! it really stretches and works out my muscles (though it doesnt seem so at the time).also i'm usually a very light sleeper, but after i started using this i noticed i slept better and deeper. i highly recommend "Simple Yoga For Pregnancy" for anyone who, like me, doesnt exercise much or who has never really done yoga.
Great DVD!.......2005-01-22
I'm so glad I got this DVD for my wife. It has helped here in so many ways. I'm not sure what the other reviewer was talking about, but it definitely has been good for her. I'd highly recommend it to anyone on bedrest or not. I've bought quite a few DVDs from this company and have been satisfied with everyone. They have really good instructional dvds. Thanks!
A bit too simple!.......2004-12-27
If you have ever done yoga before, this DVD is not for you. The poses are very simple and will definitely not raise your heart rate. It may be good for those women who are on bedrest.
With the exception of the relaxation portion of the program, there was very little to no background music.

Good Yoga, some talk a bit distracting.......2007-02-11
This DVD was useful while I was pregnant. The positions were good and she did a good job of explaining how to get into them and I enjoyed the meditation at the end. What keeps me from giving it a great review is one phrase that she kept repeating that was a bit distracting and by the third or fourth time, was making me laugh: She kept saying, "This can help the baby get into the right position, whatever that means."
"Whatever that means"? It sounded like she was avoiding being judgmental toward a baby being "bad" for getting in the "wrong" position or something like that. Since there IS such a thing as an ideal position for birth (head down, occiput anterior, etc.), and yoga positioning is really good at getting babies there, the "whatever that means" seemed really funny. Of course a well-positioned baby isn't a better person than a mal-positioned one, but it will come out a heck of a lot more easily, and isn't that part of what we're doing the yoga for?
Overall, I enjoyed using the DVD and it was a good purchase, but that element was bothersome to me. Likely it wouldn't be to most women.
Great for Beginners.......2006-06-12
I've dabbled in yoga over the past few years, but usually I stick with pilates. Tired of my normal pilates videos I decided to give this a try when I found it on the shelf at Borders.
This DVD is great for relaxing. The poses are very easy and it moves at a great pace. My sciatica problems have been reduced and other aches and pains have gone away.
Very accessible. .......2005-11-30
I did not practice yoga regularly prior to pregnancy -- I had been to 5 or 10 classes in my life. However, by my second trimester everything hurt: feet, back, hamstrings. I picked this up at Buy Buy Baby and found that by just doing the short section at the begining (35 minutes or so) 2 or 3 times a week, all my pains were gone. Although there is a lot of focus on the pregnancy in the DVD, my husband will sometimes do it with me and he reaps benefits.
This best thing about the DVD is s that it's so approachable to do just a half hour in your living room and immediately feel better. I also like it that the pregnant women in the video are not little skinny pregnant women -- they are full and fleshy. The production value is also much better than the other (Australian) yoga video I picked up.
