Customer Reviews:
A great start to season 2.......2007-01-05
The first part of this season starts of great and builds up quickly with a number of multi-episode stories. I had a great time watching these and they still capture kids attention 20+ years later.
Great for Fans.......2006-09-18
Season two is where the Transformes mania really started to take off, even spawning the theatrical movie of 1986. In some ways season two is great. We get a lot more episodes and more characterization for out beloved bots. I think my biggest complaint about the second season would have to be the "Transformer of the week" syndrome that plagued it. This was an unfortunate side effect of the show's popularity. Hasbro was looking to sell as many toys as possible so we had tons of new characters on both sides of the conflict popping up with no explanation. Here is where the pushing aside of fan favorites started. But this season also gave us four episodes focusing on fan favorites the Dinobots, even adding two more Dinos to the beloved team of Mayhem.
While there are some really bizarre episodes in this set like "Atlantis Arise" there are some real gems like "Microbots," "Changing Gears," and despite the silliness of the premise "A Decepticon Raider in King Aurthur's Court." While some of the jokes fall flat, many still make me laugh today. The dialog was written in the west and doesn't tend to suffer the cultural gap that later versions of TF written in the East seem to. Unfortunately animation errors abound and can be a bit jarring at times. It seems they did little to correct these with the release. I really enjoyed the episodes all in all and have a great time popping in a DVD and reminiscing about wishing I could meet Optimus Prime as a kid.
If your a fan of G1, you'll love it.
A Must have for Fans. Subpar compared to Season One........2006-04-30
I bought this and volume 2 as well as Seson one before that.
The epsisodes are good but not as good as Season One. But again, like season one, I would have hoped for worthwhile extras. This season had none, in fact.
Compared to Season One, you get quantity with many more episodes but not neccessarily quality in terms good episodes. With many more episodes, you get about as many good ones as Season One...which are all really good.
Another apsect of Season Two, besides weaker story telling, that I never cared for was the lack of attention to detail, compared to Season One, that went into sound effects and musical score leaving a weaker product in terms of power and detail. The score and sound were more varied but in a bad way as a result. Sometimes less is more.
And, although commerically neccessary, I grew weary, even as kid, of the endless introduction of new characters. I never adapted well to having so many new characters show up every week. The originals were the ones I found engaging. With a few unique exceptions that had some depth and served a purpose like Perceptor, most of the new ones were superfluous and distracting, in my opinion. Again, less can be more.
Still the major flaw with all these "remastered" Transformers DVD's is the total lack of care that went into them. The numerous flubs, glitches and errors in terms of voice and color are were left unchanged. But unlike Season One, they didn't manage to create new ones! Something that still confounds me about the Season One.
You'd think they would have done this small service of correction and clean-up for the Transformers many loyal fans of some 22 years
Still, overall, a good buy for any fan.
Awesome second season........2006-04-24
The continuation of the first season on the legacy of the legendary Transformers show! Fans of the show have said that the second season is better than the first and i have to agree. This is the first part of the second season and it delivers on all accounts with more action, lovable characters, more emotion and more fun then ever.
The episodes are "Autobot Spike" where Spike's mind is transfered into a autobot, "Changing Gears" has Megatron who kidnaps Gears for his Sun Needle experiment, "City of Steel" has Megatron with his constructicons taking over New York City, " Attack of the Autobots" features Megatron who puts the autobots under his control no thanks to a chip, " Traitor" is about Megatron and two of the seekers stole volatile Electrocells from a science lab, "Immobilizler" deals with the Decepticons stoleaing Wheeljack's newest instant Immobilizler as Ironhide feels responsible for it and Spike falls for a lovely girl named Carly. " The Autobot Run" has the Constructicons unveil Megatron's latest and newest device called The Transfixatron where they can lock the Autobot's tranfomation abilties, " Atlantis, Arise" has Laserbeak and Buzzsaw who finds a ancient populated city beneath the sea called Subatlantica and Megatron makes a deal with the king, " Day of the Machines" deals with Megatron who reprograms a special supercomputer to do his bidding, " Enter the Nightbird" has a new manmade female ninja robot named Nightbird but the Decepticons upgrade Nightbird's program to evil, " A Prime Problem" has Megatron creating a clone of Optimus Prime to lead the Autobots to their death, " The Core" has Megatron who has a diabolical plan to get energy from the Earth's core but doesn't listen to Starscream's warning that it will rip the Earth apart, " The Insecticon Syndrome" has the robotic insect trio who become giantic after munching down the power core of a Nova Power Plant. "Dinobot Island parts 1 & 2" has the Dinobots sequested on a island with surviving dinosaurs and Megatron wants the energies of the island that might unleash vortexes from other times, " Master Builder" deals with Grapple wanting to make a experiment for a Solar Power Tower but the Constructicons convicence him and Hoist to build the device, " Auto Berserk" has Red Alert damaged after a battle with a Decepticon and goes nuts.
" Microbots" has Megatron who brings up back the ship that they had been on before and with it a special fuel cell called the Heart of Cybertron as the autobots are shrunken to destroy it. "Megatron's Master Plan parts 1 & 2" deals with Megatron accusing the Autobots of a crime they didn't commit as Spike with friends must clear their names, " Desertion of the Dinobots parts 1 & 2" has the Autobots and the Decepticons suffering malfuction due to lack of a special fuel called Cybertonium as Dinobots with Carly and Spike must recieve it before the Decepticons do, "Blaster Blues" has Blaster who's taste in music destracts the Autobots from hearing an important distress signal and the Decepticons has stolen the Voltronic Galxer communications device and finally " A Decepticon Raider in King Arthur's Court" has Starscream, Rumble, Ramjet and Ravage who chase Warpath, Hoist and Spike in a cave that sends them back to the days of Camelot and they must find a way home.
All episodes are wonderfully remastered with great picture & sound quality especially the original mono and the features are "A Taste of Botcon 2002" that includes interviews with the cast and crew of the show at the convention, Animation goofs with a commentary by a Transformers advisor and interview with Transformers writer Earl Kress.
Soundwave.......2006-01-20
I don't think season 2 is better than season one. My favorite character is Soundwave. In the episode "Auto Beserk" they FINALLY give Soundwave his props in the opening battle. He releases four of his cassettes, Rumble, Frenzy, Ravage and Buzzsaw, to fight the Autobots and I must say he is a formidable foe! I don't understand why Starscream was second in command when it should have been Soundwave.
Someone else mentioned the Bumblebee/Spike deal. This is very true. I'm exhaused that they are always eavedropping on the Decepticons plans and foiling them. Soundwave should have been able to pick up their sensors as soon as they enter the room. Just some techincal ramblings to show Soundwave was definitely underused.

CURSING TRANSFORMERS!?! .......2007-02-09
in the rhino transformers armada season 1 part2 has the transformers cursing in the dvd set. im only 10 and it should be rated pg-13 i would not recomend this for a child.
Almost hated it.......2007-01-04
This half of the season was a lot better then the first, but I wouldn't say by much. I watched this completely openminded to it, and tried forgeting everything that I know about G1 and my bad experiance with the first season half. The thing I could not shake was how annoying those damn kids are, ALL OF THEM(especially that fat one). They served no real purpose at all and they got way too much screen time. It just got to the point I would fast forward their scene and before I knew it, it was half way over. They truly offer nothin to the story. Just their mere presence killed alot of this for me and I may not be able to watch this ever again. However I can't say that this part was completely bad because it wasn't. The action scenes had a little more life to them than the first season half. I could never watch this whole season again to be honest. The best episodes for me and I can watch again are. The past; 1 and 2, Crisis, Miracle, Puppet, Cramp, and Mortal Combat. These episodes could have been outstanding but I'm not over exaggerating when I say how much those kids take away from the show itself. The 5 star reviews just blows my mind. The battle with Unicron isn't all that great by no means, even if you didn't see Transformers the movie. Yeah, Autobots and Decepticons die but it doesn't capture that same feeling like when you probably saw the movie for the first time. Its more or less, big deal if its no one major then the hell with em'. The final battle between Prime and Megatron(I refuse to call him Galvatron because the only change was his color, not personality) is probably the only reason to watch this. They really do get down and dirty, I'll give this that much credit. I know who the writers were trying to attract and I know the parents had a serious hand in this. I understand from a business point of view but personally it makes me sick. The children is going to be the ones to enjoy this most, but if your looking to buy this for yourself because you loved the G1 Transformers and Beast Wars, then there is a very good chance you might not like this one. Its better than the first season but not by much. I only have it for collection sake but I might not keep it.
These episodes will change your mind........2006-10-12
I was so excited for Armada to be released on TV. I held my breath in anticipation, and made sure nobody bothered me the day of the premiere. And, like many G1 fans.... I was disappointed. I didn't make any effort to watch the show for quite some time. It was these episodes on this set that made me accept, and even LIKE the show. I don't have this set yet, but I would definately buy it. The episodes near the end with Prime, Megatron, and Unicron all confronting each other... that's really good stuff!
YES!!!.......2006-09-10
This is perharps one of the best Transformers series, just Unicron is all you need to know. Very good investment your kids will love it and people fans of G1 would love it too.
The best half of the series.......2006-08-31
I was thinking that this half of the series would never get released (like the gijoe sets)but for whatever reason hasbro has allowed rhino to release the rest of this series..it basically comes down to this, part one of the series was [...],second half of the series ROCKED!!!!Unicron shows up,some autobots/decpticons die,the kids aren't in it as much, more violence and fighting less p.c. bullcrap in the second half of the series..so thanks to hasbro and rhino for getting the good episodes out there instead of us fans getting stuck with JUST the first, crappy, half of the series....

Customer Reviews:
What is this joke masquarading as transformers?.......2007-01-13
If I had it my way, I would give this the highest negative imaginable. This series is atrocious. What a good a way to destroy a classic cartoon. Nothin about this is acceptable. I'll admit some of the G1 episodes was corny but they are light years ahead of this garbage. If your a fan of Transformers G1 and Beast Wars, there is no possible way you can even try to like this. There is no good points to this. Just as every 1 star reviewer noted; Those kids are the biggest problem with this show. They serve no purpose at all. They are completely annoying, and they are in every single episode. Bad enough they started out with 3 of them, then they added 2 more. To top it off the Autobots are so lame in this garbage and they cant win without them. It got to the point I wasn't watching this for enjoyment anymore, I just wanted it to end so I could feel like I didn't totally waste my money. Too many iconic characters are a total joke now. Prime and Megatron for the most part are still the same. But Cyclonus is a nightmare. He's a total joke in this, to include Starscream. The stories are poorly writin, and if you seen one episode you basically saw them all. Some of the other 1 star reviewers compared this with Pokemon. I never sat down and got into pokemon, but I do know what its about. And if the "Transformers" are mentioned in the same sentence as Pokemon. Then something can't be right! This is good only for the kids. If thats your reason for getting it, then your money will be well spent. I really hope this garbage goes out of print and then hopefully it'll just disappear and be a bad memory. I didn't even sell mine, I just gave it away. I'll just stick to the originals and act like this junk didn't even exist. If your a huge TF fan and must see this, you are going to hate yourself for spending at least 30 bucks on this. Its not even worth 10 bucks. Keep your money and buy the G1 or/and Beast Wars collection. You will not be disappointed. I never thought the day would come I would give the almighty Transformers a 1 star negative review or say anything negative about it for that matter. But the mighty has fallen.
Generation One this isnt.... this is a beyond bad.........2006-11-11
first off i ACTUALLY watched these episodes cringing all the way... and i have to say straight up...THESE ARE TERRIBLE !! first off THIS is Not generation one its not even in the same league and its not even worthy of being called transformers...
sure they have prime and megatron...but its NOT the same the writers here did a hackjob, and paid no respect to the characters...prime and megatron are iconic characters and deserve MUCH better than this...the voice acting is pitiful they should have got peter cullen to reprise optimus primes voice..and the original voice actor for megatron ,
next off is the storylines, if you call these stories ...they are pathetic...i see this is where the parents groups had a big hand in this..because the plots are so lame and lackluster..and WTF is with these dippy teens they added in this show?? they are either bratty or wimpy beyond belief...sure ,we had humans in the generation one show.. But spike, carly, and chip chase... were interesting and you actually cared about them.. and you gotta love sparkplug witwicky spikes dad...these human characters did a hell of a lot more than go " oh god help!"
.this show is too cartoony...what i mean by that..its too light...can you imagine if they had the death of optimus prime here? i dont think the producers here would know how to handle it.let alone the parents...back in the day there was a backlast sure..i remember being sad when prime died but it was dramatic..and added to the story...same thing with the death of roy fokker in robotech..
both of those deaths had lasting impacts on future storylines..try that these days i mean, have you seen some of the other animation on tv today ?.. lets say spongebob, pokemon the brain starts to go soft already its shows like these that give animation a bad name..
everything about armada is bad... this is transformers lite in my opinion...its all fluff and nothing more...from the corny dialogue, bad animation(im glad marvel didnt decide to animate this one) and more...this show reeks...take my advice..You want to see a good transformers story? get the GENERATION ONE series dvds and transformers the movie..and sit back and enjoy and after that track down the marvel comics transformers series you'll be glad you did, and use armada to give to somebody you dont like it could become the new "fruit cake" :)
Transformers Armada.......2006-11-07
Purchased on behalf of my son. He was very pleased with the service and the product delivered.
Even good for teens.......2006-01-04
First of all, I would like to state that I grew up watching Transformers, from the end of the G2 series until Cybertron, so my review may be a bit biased. Transformers Armada and Energon I'm afraid I missed seeing as they came out, but having recently bought this set, I was able to catch myself up somewhat. In defiance to many other reviews, the animation was fairly well done, as well as the voice casting. The new voice actor for Starscream was a good fit for the character. And while I do have to say that I have missed a few of my old favorite characters, I haven't yet seen a huge problem with those returning. All in all, except for a few times when the kids got extremely annoying, and the dialouge a little repetitive, this was a very good series, and I would give it a 4.75 but that number isn't selectable. And now I shall wait rather impatiently for the second half of the series to come out in a collection available in America.
Dear God.......2005-11-28
This show is horrible. I tried to give it a chance by watching the first 5 episodes, and even a few episodes later on in the series. It's obvious that the show is geared towards very young kids; but as a young adult it destroyed my memories of the old Transformers show.
- The Kids: For some reason the makers of Armada thought that giant transforming robots weren't enough to bring in a younger audience, so they introduce 3 teenagers that supposedly help Optimus and crew. They don't. The kids are annoying, and honestly never really help in any way. They do state the obvious on a constant basis, as well as getting in the line-of-fire every episode.
- The Animation: While the animation gets better later in the series, this is just painful. The Transformers are too detailed, with at least three times the number of lines the original robots had. The result is that the animators don't have enough time to create large action sequences, so we're left with the kids talking for at least half of each episode. The action sequences themselves are boring and short.
- The Transformers: Optimus, Megatron, and Starscream are the only Transformers that carried over their original personailties and overall looks from the old show. As the series goes on more and more Transformers get added to the fray, but honestly, a lot of them are just butt-ugly. Purple, green, and gray color schemes come to mind.
Honestly, if you have kids that are around the age of 10, they'll probably love the show, but anyone looking for a replacement to the old show needs to look somewhere else. The old show was corny, but this show might be one of the dumbest cartoons in history.

The fallout.......2007-03-02
While no one can deny the greatness of characters like Optimus Prime, Megatron, Star Scream, Iron Hide, Soundwave, and the Dinobots, I do think that people have misunderstood and therefore unfairly underestimated this odd but very interesting season. Yes there were some unwatchable episodes (Surprise Party and Carnage in C Minor come to mind), terrible animation gaffes with the Sweeps for instance, and a Myriad of pointless new characters with no intelligable origins. But considering the circumstances surrounding the series, this season is great example of people doing what they could in the face of mass confusion and unpredictable chaotic events. By the time season 3 came along, Hasbro had given up the pretention of trying to entertain and just demanded the all out advertisement of their new toys in the episodes. Plots didn't matter and the writers were rushed into creating these promotions before the fervor of the movie (Perhaps the best animated action film of all time) died down. Yet given all this, no one can truthfully deny the fact that the five faces of darkness episodes that opened the season and directly followed the movie were among the best episodes to come out of the series. Who reading this can say that the Sky Lynx/ Predaking battle didn't get their adreneline flowing. Or that they weren't amazed at the depth of the Quintessons and the meticulous investigation of their methods and personalities. The stuff novels are made from. But by far the biggest crime critics of this series commit is in the their disregard of the third greatest character ever created for the show. The combination of Galvetron's awesome might and undeniable insanity gave his character a depth never before seen in any kids cartoon. The idea that Megatron was somewhere in there and the identity issues that brought up (underscored perfectly by a conversation between two decepticons in one of the Faces of Darkness episodes)was disturbing and comforting at the same time. He was so charismatic that you couldn't help but root for him most of the time. The "Jack Sparrow" of the show if you will, or one of those troubled eighties music and sports stars we used to read about in the tabloids around the time these episodes were written. His exchanges with Cyclonis throughout the season steal the show and almost made you feel disappointed when the symbol on the screen told you an autobot scene was coming up. Not coincidentally, you find the autobots and decepticons uniting to save themselves from other evils many times throughout this season. The mixing and matching of certain autobots and decepticons provide some very interesting moments throughout these episodes. The autobots are admittedly boring througout most of the season, but in the end the writers seem to channel their pain through them. No time, no direction, just trying to keep thier noses above water. And that describes this season in a nutsell/nutshell. This season deserves an honest view without the biased memories of the great Optimus Prime years getting in the way. We know those seasons were great. But one of the things that made the movie great was the fact that it took away our innocence. I and surely many others cried following Optimus Prime's death and was shocked by the death of all those characters that had in a way become a part of my life. With that, our generation knew things would never be the same. This season was the perfect continuation of that loss of innocence. Of the dissolution of our black and white perceptions of the world and of the thought that things could last forever. The gray area had expanded and season 3 would envelope us in it whether we liked it or not. No absolutes. Just a shattered version of all we'd taken for granted. An irrelevant soundwave. One Dinobot. Unicron's mangled head with no body. Optimus Prime, the representation of all that was good to us, coming back to us in a creepy, almost possessed, state. And in that particular episode there is the microcosm of what season 3 meant to us. Optimus Prime, in a spaceship, heading to the sun to burn himself up for the good of his fellow autobots. Leaving that same empty feeling we always seemed to feel at the end of these episodes; not because of their shortcomings, but because we were unknowingly beginning to learn how to mourn and how life went on even after our heroes died and the structure of our lives slowly but surely began to resemble Springer after that Junkyon machine was thorugh with him.
Good to complete your collection.......2007-02-12
This season receives alot of backlash and with good reason. I thought the idea with the death of Prime was great and it added a whole lot to the story. The introduction of a new leader trying to fill Primes shoes but the writers seemed to have misplaced everything that made the Transformers a success in the first place. The stories arent too bad. I enjoyed the way the Quinteesons were introduced but I just find it hard to understand that if Prime had possession of the matrix the entire time how could he never tell his troops their origin. Good characters were killed and removed, and replaced with new ones who had no additional powers at all. Kup, Arcee, Blurr, and Springer could never replace, Ironhide, Jazz, Mirage, Hound or even Smokescreen. All the characters with special powers who made you say, "wow thats cool" were gone for good. Then the biggest no-no in my opinion was changing the Insecticons into the forever useless Sweeps. They added nothin to the story and lets not forget all the animation mistakes. The one and only saving grace had to be Galvatron's madness. And the Decepticons having to withstand the abuse of such an unstable leader. And you gotta love Cyclonus sense of duty and ethics as a warrior. This was the only time during the Transformers series I hoped the Decepticons obliterated all of the Autobots.
The series does have some redeeming qualities, but to be honest I watch this season the least. Too many good characters were replaced by some who are mediocre at best. I only have this for collection sake, but what I find so frightening the most is how much worst Transformers Armada is next to this. If you liked this, I highly recommend checking out Beast Wars, I find that a whole lot better than this.
it was okay.......2006-11-13
Being perfectly honest I'm almost sorry I bought it. Fading into the final seasons. Transformers lost its spark, the writers were trying too hard to be like the first two seasons. The plots got away from the storylines more often than not. And as for as specific autobots and decepticons the just mysteriously disappeard are the ones that made the cartoon what it was, nearly every single episode and autobot or decepticon was there and no one knew why where they were how they got there or anything.
Ironhide died in the movie we all knew he was shot in the Deception ambush in the second war. But what happened to Gears, Mirage, and the other dinobots Swoop, Slag, Sludge and Snarl. (those are the names I'm not kidding) you'd see Grimlock here and there but rarely with the dinobots.
No one truly knows if they stayed on earth when Optimus went back to Cybertron or did they die in the war like IronHide. I like Hot Rod the second Trans Am in the series. (Traks was blue with the flame on his hood and the accent in New York from season two I believe.) They should have killed off BumbleBee instead he was so pointless.
Rodimus Prime was not a bad leader like he thought he was his heart wasn't in it and that was kind of frustrating he complained too much. And there specific humans that blamed him for things that weren't his fault after he saved their butts really. He did whine a lot now that I think about it.
After the death of Optimus the never should have tried to bring him back.
I am with dlgood. . . ........2005-05-12
Remeber when you ran home from the bus stop to catch the next episode of the Transformers? You watched and were moved by Optimus Prime's honor and sense of committment? You looked to see what maniacal devilry Megatron was going to get into? You looked forward to the melees that Prime and Megatron would get into and how the Autobots would topple the Decepticons?
Well that is all missing in these episodes so don't worry about being engaged.
Dlgood is right when he critiques this season as it was more of a menagerie of ideas and a commercial for the toyline than a well written continuation of a series with epic beginnings.
Although I am a TransFan and love them still (in my 30s) I really never loved these episodes when I was a kid. So much so that I had written the entirely different plotline and explanation with companion RPG to boot (at age 10 nonetheless), but alas I digress. I just really looked at them for the artistic qualities. Thus the best drawn episodes are the ones that I like to this day. To me, WebWorld, Call of the Primitives, The Killing Jar, Madman Paradise, some parts of Money is Everything and Dweller in the Depths are my favorites. If you are looking to compare the orignal 3 disc series to this then don't because these episodes are very poorly written.
It seems that budding writers who needed work got the job on these and dlgood is right we he/she speaks of the bad animation, poor plots, and other issues, but I got these because of the aforementioned episodes and because I am a completist.
If you are looking for a good storyline then skip these and go for the originals from Maverick (UK) and the second season from Rhino.
Consider this a warning.
TF Season 3 "THE SPACEAGE".......2004-07-08
As a child and as an adult, I remember seeing both season 1 and season 2. To be perfectly honest, I, as well as many other transformers fans was alienated from the season 3 series, due to the killings and replacements of many autobots and decepticons, don't get me wrong, this whole new spaceage era in cybertron, despite how boring that may sound, wasn't bad at all, it was good, since if there's no change in a series, it will eventually get boring anyway. I missed starscream and his naive plots against megatron, ironhide, optimus, etc, but the birth of many new robots wasn't bad at all either. The season three series, unlike the former episodes, doesn't take place on earth, it's primarily based on the planet cybertron about 25 or so years in the future. At first, i thought that they ruined the series, but if you actually see them all, you'll love it like i did in the end. The animation did not have the good quality that season 1 and 2 had though. Another thing that really annoyed me was that galvatron(which was a morphed megatron) seemed strong and powerfull in the movie, just like his former self (megatron) was, but in the series, galvatron was like a spoiled, tempered, immature little brat that simply liked to shoot at his fellow decepticons. The excuse that was used in the series was that his brain was dammaged due to the battle suffered in the movie (completely ridiculous reason to give him an uncharismatic character). Also, Rodimus Prime, the replacement for Optimus prime was immature and is an obvious reason why fans wanted an episode in this season which consisted of optimus prime being revived. Well, beside this criticism, i recommend people to buy this as a good completion for the transformers collection, it's well worth it. Till all are one!

Lackluster and Hurried.......2003-02-11
After watching the first Transformers DVD, I couldn't believe how well the episodes were holding up after all these years.
Sadly, the quality in the episodes on this second DVD is really quite poor. The writing and basic premises are poor, the animation is poor and the presentation is poor. It was a chore to finish them, as more times than not the day is saved by some previously unmentioned device. Everything seemed hurried and there simply isn't enough consistency to truly enjoy them.
I'm quite disappointed in these episodes, and hope things pick up in third and final DVD of Season One.
80s relived.......2003-02-09
My boyfriend loves the old cartoons so I knew I had to buy this. He loves it. All the old episodes he grew up on.
THE classic 80s cartoon series! ...but over-remastered.......2002-09-05
PICTURE QUALITY (2/5 STARS)
The overall image quality has definetly been improved: brighter colours, sharp images and heavy remastering (scratch removal, ect.) but WHAT HAVE THEY DONE?? They really made some devastating mistakes! Some scenes are played in reverse (i.e. the infamous Ironhide transformation scene from 'Heavy Metal War'), some visual heat-, smoke- and fire-effects are just missing!! And there is this mistake-documentation which should show the people what errors the original film masters had and that they have been corrected... they found the errors, but forgot(?) to correct many of them.
Sharpness and colour of the image deserve 5 STARS, but in fact of the errors 2 STARS is the proper rating!
SOUND QUALITY (2/5 STARS)
Generally the sound is very clear and free of hiss/crackles but WHAT HAVE THEY DONE...AGAIN?? They have remixed the soundtrack to Dolby Digital 5.1, initially that sounds brilliant but to reach this goal Rhino added some really strange&stupid soundeffects. Ok, the explosions have a great *boom* but gunfire sounds like children toy guns.
The Dolby Stereo soundtrack is another mess, some episodes have the new 5.1 remix simply downmixed to stereo, but others have the original soundtrack with no added effects. I believe every fan of the series demands at least an option to hear the original sountrack!
First a disappointment then you (have to) get used to it. Nothing more and nothing less.
EXTRAS (1/5 STARS)
No Extras included. You have to buy the Season 1 Box Set containing a fourth disc with all the extras. To match the Amazon-rating there is a 1-star rating because of the non-existent zero-star rating option.
SPECIAL/UNIQUE ON THIS DVD RELEASE:
- all new transfer from the original 35mm negative
- Dolby Digital 5.1 remix & Dolby Stereo
COMMENT:
I am a great fan of Transformers G1 and I would have loved to see the TFs in its original form, without remastering mistakes and additional soundeffects.
As a Transfan I also bought the UK boxset of season 1 which contains a lot of other worthy extras. The picture quality is not so sharp and brilliant but there are NO MISTAKES and errors. The soundtrack is the 5.1 remix from this US boxset. I highly recommend buying both editions or if you are not sure, just buy the UK Region 2 boxset if your DVD player is PAL-compatible!
Good classic cartoon.......2002-05-19
This second volume of the Transformers Season 1 contains 5 more episodes of the classic cartoon series.
Also contains all the commercials cuts thing that Rhino should eliminated to give the show continuity instead of cut even to show the credits of the episode.
The lack of extras ,captions and spanish audio track is also something bad for this Dvd.
They should learn of Universal whose X-men series animated features subtitles original audio and a easy menu top select the episode you want to watch.

I love Transformers Volume 1 season 1!.......2005-03-04
This single Transformers DVD disc is the contains the very first five episodes of the Transformers: Generation 1 cartoon (1984)! I like this DVD a-lot because I remember in September, 1984 watching this show on television after school. the episodes in this disc are:
The Transformers (September, 1984)
1)More Than Meets The Eye Part 1
2)More Than Meets The Eye Part 2
3)More Than Meets The Eye Part 3
4)Transport to Oblivion
5)Roll For It
These Transformers episodes ar the best because the introduce the original Transformers like Optimus Prime(voice by Peter Cullen) and Megatron (voice by Frank Welker)in the series. I highly Recommend this Transformers DVD to anyone who is a Transfan! Witness and take part in Television history! Highest Possible Recommendation!
Really stands the test of time........2003-02-03
After watching G.I.Joe cartoons from the same era, I was fully expecting to be disappointed watching my favorite cartoon as a child, the Transformers.
Imagine my surprise when I watched this first DVD! I was amazed at the quality of the dialogue and how well the animation holds up. Granted, there are numerous continuity errors, and there are numerous occasions where the animation is rushed. These flaws are obvious but don't really subtract from the whole package, nostalgic as it is.
If you watched this show as a child, you're going to enjoy them again with this DVD. Don't listen to the detractors about the extra sound effects as they're not noticeable in the least.
However, I would recommend that you save a little bit more and buy the Season 1 boxset.

Good classic cartoon.......2002-05-19
At least Rhino have decided to release Transformers on Dvd.
Here we have the first 5 episodes of the first season shown in 1984-85.
The Transformers live on the planet Cybertron. The Autobots(Good) are automobile transformers which espape on a ship to seek new sources of power. They are followed by the evil Decepticons plane transformers who wants the power to control the galaxy.Their ship crashes on the Earth and 4,000 millions years after the robots are activated and given the auto and plane presence.
The Decepticons plans to get all the Earth power resources to made cubicals of energy and return to Cybertron to control the galaxy which the Autobots must impide in order to protect Earth and all humankind.
The Dvd transfer is ok but the sound despite is Dolby 5.1 sounds a bit scratchy sometimes and fades also.
There isn't any subtitle or caption nor a Spanish audio track avaliable on the Dvd so that's why I give only 3 stars of 5.
Resuming a good title based on a classic cartoon of the mid 80's with no extras nor subtitles.
I hope Rhino Video gets the info and the next Dvd transfered from Vhs(G.I.Joe) would be better.

The three volumes of season 1 are exactly the same as in the boxset, but no extras! Only the season 1 boxset has the fourth extras-disc. Rhino messed with season 1, errors, errors errors...
I recommend you to import the season 1 deluxe edition from amazon uk, if your dvd player is pal and region 2 compatible. The picture material featured on the uk boxset is unedited and errorless.

Good classic cartoon.......2002-05-20
This last volume of the Transformers Season 1 includes 5 episodes shown in 1984-85.
The last one keeps the Decepticons beaten by the Autobots and throw them into lava but Megatron says that he'll rise again.
The same things as I have written on the previous volumes.

Excellent picture quality, Dolby Stereo sound (original soundtrack), Dolby 5.1 sound (additional sound effects)!
Season 2 is the best season of the series, 80's cult and still worth all my money!
