5 out of 5 stars Kathy is A-List all the way! .......2007-07-03

Season One of "Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List" is finally available, and the nice folks at Bravo have even gone the extra mile to tack on "Kathy Griffin is...Not Nicole Kidman" which is a stand-up special from 2005. I don't know what I've enjoyed more! Kathy is so quick and so impulsive, even the members of "Team Griffin" it seems are often surprised at how funny she is when she's not even trying. Even her stand-up special is so original and unscripted, it's like watching one big improvisational conversation, between Kathy and her audience. My only gripe is that the Bravo people found it necessary even here on its DVD release, to 'bleep' the explatives like they do for the TV broadcasts. While it might be a bit more family friendly, Kathy's cusses make it all the more chuckle worthy. (***Check out Kathy's DVD "Allegedly" for more uncensored laughs than you can handle. ***) All in all, it's a great DVD. Looking forward to Season 2 of My Life on the D-List. Thanks for all the laughs Kathy!

5 out of 5 stars She is just the BEST.......2007-07-01

I love Kathy Griffin and I love this show. I really want a deluxe set with all three seasons and the specials included. I also want the show to last all year long and air three hours a day. What I really want is all Kathy, all the time.

I am a happily married heterosexual woman. My husband loves her too! She stops at NOTHING for a laugh. I want to be her when I grow up. Even though I am several million years older than she is already.

5 out of 5 stars She Is So "A" List!!! .......2007-06-22

Ok, Kathy Griffin is not for EVERYONE. However for those of "US" she is for, there is just NO one that will make you laugh harder! Kathy has that special way of telling her stories and her observations are keen and whitty. No one is "safe" (including Kathy herself) from her stories and she finds humor in it all. Can't wait for season 2 on dvd. (and you can watch season 3 on bravo Tuesday nights all summer.....Ok kathy...you OWE me Girl!)

5 out of 5 stars IF YOU DONT LOVE IT....YOU CAN SUCK IT & HERE's WHY..........2007-06-22

Well i was on holiday in LasVegas when i got hooked on this show. And as soon as i got home, i was desperate for a DVD! Having bought the chokkingly funny 'Allegedly' , i couldnt wait to get my hands on Kathy's D-List life!!!OMG!
The wonderful, beautiful & extremely witty KG invites us into her hectic life (D-List). Its pee-extractingly funny! With generous dvd extras!
From the dorky ex-husband, to the slave driven PA, to the laugh a minute parents,,,Kathy's D-list life makes a great show and an extremely hard act to follow!

She is a genuine, comedy genius! Who is quite literally not fully appreciated in her own time.
I love her! And you will too,,,so buy this DVD NOW!!!!

5 out of 5 stars FROM ONE REALITY SHOW HATER TO ANOTHER, THIS SHOW ROCKS...!!!.......2007-06-15

The one thing that's always bugged me about reality TV, is the fact that most of it looks staged ("Gee, I think, for no readily available reason, I'm gonna take off my cloths and jump into this public swimming pool...") but that is the one thing that grabs you from the get go in this show, is that Kathy Griffin seems so frazzled most of the time (what with her self proclaimed D-list status, making her do twice the amount of work, for half the recognition) and doesn't really seem to notice the camera invasion, about 95% of the time (the other 5% has her playing to the camera like any comedian worth their salt would, being as cuttingly insightful as she can be, and ripping on anyone she can get her mind around, including, herself).

It's GREAT to finally get the whole first season (with the second to follow, fingers crossed) on DVD, as here in Canada, it was next to impossible to find it's air time on the station that was broadcasting it, and as a result, I only managed to see an episode and a haf of the show, but what I did see was a funny, oddly cute, but also vulnerable, side of Kathy Griffin ("don't call me GIFFORD!!!") that wasn't so much evasive (as most reality TV tries to be) but more documentaries, in a wholly entertaining and unabashed look into this funny lady's hectic life.

Just a note, yes the censor bleeps are still there, but in all reality, I think it adds to the hilarity of the show (kind of like Yo' Semity Sam, from the Buggs Bunny Show, when he'd curse under his breath, you couldn't quite make out what he was saying, and that only made it all the more funnier).

Or is it just me?

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Great to watch, even for parents!.......2007-07-07

This is an excellent introduction to using sign language to communicate with your baby. It is so entertaining that my 14 month old son can sit still and watch a lot at a time. And what is more, its not obnoxious, so you as a parent will delightfully watch and learn in tandem with your child.

2 out of 5 stars Baby Einstein - My First Signs.......2007-06-28

It is impressive how my son, now 15 months, gets completely absorbed with all the Baby Einstein products my wife and I have previously purchased (My First Moves, Neighborhood Animals, Baby Beethoven, Baby Mozart). With this one, though (which by the way said was precisely for children in that age range), his attention was only captured for the first 5 minutes. Analyzing it from a non-target customer standpoint, I think it is not in the same category as the other ones I've seen, quality wise. Maybe my expectations were too high but I can honestly say I was a little disappointed with this product. Maybe someone can recommend other BE products that are as good as the others. Thanks.

5 out of 5 stars wonderful!.......2007-06-22

My 6 month old loves to watch this video. He hasn't started using any signs yet, but i believe it is never too early to start learning. He sits in his high chair and will watch the whole video. The video is designed well to teach vocabulary and signing, and there is great, peaceful music throughout. I hope Baby Einstein comes out with a new signing video soon so we can use it to learn more signs.

5 out of 5 stars Great for 18 mo. old boy.......2007-06-03

We had every single Baby Einstein video except for this one and Baby Wordsworth. I ordered both of them and they keep my son (18mo) occupied for the whole entire video. He needs "new" videos every 3 months or so. I hope they create more videos for 18-24mo.

5 out of 5 stars My First Signs, Just Terrific.......2007-06-03

Baby Einstein is a wonderful new line of videos to help aid in your child's development. Get them off to a very good start with these videos, and this special one, My First Signs. Get them well on the way to a successful future now! Don't wait!

The most original comedy since Arrested Development, My Name is Earl marked the launch of a lovable new loser. Earl Hickey (Jason Lee) sleeps all day and drinks all night. The pattern ends when he buys a "scratcher"--and wins $100,000. Seconds later, he's hit by a car and loses the ticket. While in the hospital, wife Joy (Emmy nominee Jaime Pressly) leaves him for Darnell the Crab Man (Eddie Steeples). Doped up on morphine, he's watching TV when Carson Daly says something about karma. Earl decides that's his problem: bad karma. He resolves to spend the rest of his life making up for all the harm he's ever done. In the pilot, Earl and brother Randy (Ethan Suplee) start by picking up litter around their motel (Joy got the trailer). While they're at it, Earl finds the lost ticket and collects his bounty. The plan is working! Along with comely maid Catalina (Nadine Velazquez), they set off to right more wrongs. Created by Greg Garcia and teamed with The Office, My Name is Earl put NBC back on the must-see comedy map. Unlike most sitcoms, it drops the studio audience in favor of flashbacks, freeze frames, first-person narration, and extensive So-Cal location work. A soundtrack heavy on blue collar favorites, like Lynyrd Skynyrd, completes the picture.

Throughout the season, Earl gives an old girlfriend self-respect ("Faked My Own Death"), plans his ex-wife's big day ("Joy's Wedding"), and makes up for the birthday he ruined ("Monkeys in Space"). First year guests include Brett Butler ("White Lie Christmas"), Juliette Lewis ("The Bounty Hunter"), and Emmy nominee Jon Favreau ("O Karma, Where Art Thou?"). Giovanni Ribisi and Beau Bridges also stop by as, respectively, Earl's pal Ralph and father Carl. Speaking of originality, "Dad's Car," which takes place during Mother's Day, features commentary from the mothers of Lee, Suplee, Garcia, and director Marc Buckland. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

Description

Karma is a funny thing. Just ask Earl (Jason Lee), who's learning the hard way that when you do something bad, it has a way of coming back and biting you in the ass! Hoping to turn his life around, Earl's got a lengthy list of detestable deeds to make up for. Also starring Jamie Pressly, Ethan Suplee, Eddie Steeples and Nadine Velazquez, My Name Is Earl is wildly offbeat and hilariously irreverent—the #1 new comedy of the season!

5 out of 5 stars Add This DVD to your list of Great TV Shows whose DVDs come with Great Extras.......2007-06-17

A lot of TV shows don't put much effort into their extras packages (some like Curb Your Enthusiasm from the second season on give you none at all) but those in charge of putting My Name is Earl on DVD have done a very nice job indeed! Aside from the documentaries, blooper reel, audio commentaries and deleted scenes they've given the purchaser a whole new episode to watch. Not just any episode either, no the Bad Karma episode lets us see what would have happened if Earl made a list to get vengeance on everyone who had ever wronged him. It's hilarious and also has Jason Lee playing a second character (female prostitute) which you see him getting his moustache shaved off and done up for at the end of the documentary Making Things Right.

This is definitely the best show to have appeared on TV recently. It's fresh, it's original and very, very funny! Buy it! Would highly recommend Scrubs as well for shows that go above and beyond for their fans with their DVD extras.

5 out of 5 stars Product review.......2007-06-08

Great comedy. I love it and have watched it over and over again. It's hillarious! Just waiting on Season two to hit the market.

5 out of 5 stars Can I Say "Laugh My Blanking A** Off?".......2007-06-04

I couldn't have enjoyed this any more. If you are into redneck crazy making with ridiculous dialogue and set-ups, you will thoroughly enjoy this set. My family and I could hardly tear ourselves away from it!

5 out of 5 stars My Name Is Earl.......2007-05-24

These are shows you can watch over and over. Very funny stuff.

5 out of 5 stars Love from Holland.......2007-05-18

Like everyone else here, I love this show. Not as in "I love Italian food"; I mean I REALLY love it, and it has become something very special in my DVD collection. So, apart from everything nice other people have said about this show, what is it that makes it so loveable to me? I think it is the huge, warm heart that beats beneath its whacky, cartoon-like surface, the spirituality almost, the uplifting message that shines through in every episode, without there actually BEING a message. This show is about someone who decides to start doing the right thing and even though he goes about it so clumsily, the reward for his goodness always comes (albeit often from a very unexpected angle)and thus it inspires viewers who have any sort of life left in them to do the same. There seem to be some similarities to the Coen Brothers' "Raising Arizona", with the white-trash theme, the colourful, sun drenched exterior shots, the general off-beat look and feel of the show. And like that wonderful film, the main characters may do stupid, dum, crazy and illegal things, but they still have a base goodness to them. Oh, and did I mention the show is hysterically funny, amazingly original - with almost no episode ending the way you'd expect- and has a killer cast? Just start watching if you aren't already. And if, like me, you live in Holland, don't wait for the networks to finally give us this gem on tv - get the Box set and have the greatest sitcom marathon ever.

5 out of 5 stars Two sitcom veterans, one great sitcom!.......2007-06-12

Yes,two sitcom veterans,Katey Sagal("Married...With Children) and the late John Ritter("Three's Company","Three's A Crowd","Hearts Afire") make this great but short-lived sitcom entitled 8 SIMPLE RULES FOR DATING MY TEENAGE DAUGHTER. Ritter is Paul Hennessy,a sportswriter who is a loving and protective father of two girls, age 16 and 11 or 12. The girls' mother is Paul's wife Cate(Sagal). Paul just typically warns boyfriends to treat his elder daughter with care. This ABC sitcom premiered on Ritter's 54th birthday,September 17,2002. Ritter has many other September family events, those being his widow Amy Yasbeck's birthday on the 12th,their daughter Stella's birthday on the 11th(Ritter succumbed to a sudden heart ailment on Stella's fourth birthday in 2003) and Ritter's and Yasbeck's wedding anniversary on the 18th(they were married one week after Stella's birth). Many remember Ritter's portrayal of Jack Tripper on TC and its not-too-popular spinoff TAC(both ABC alumni). Many also remember Sagal's portrayal of the gorgeous but lazy housewife Peggy Bundy on MWC,Fox's inaugural series that ran from 1987 to 1997. Ritter died just after this sitcom's second season began production at the Burbank,California hospital he was born in in 1948. That hospital stands across from the studio where 8SRFDMTD was taped. After Ritter's death, writers had Paul dropping dead of a heart attack while grocery shopping. Many viewers believed that the show wasn't too great without Ritter. That's probably why the show got the Nielsen axe after 2004-05. Throughout the series, several respective castmates of Ritter's and Sagal's guest starred such as Ed O'Neill and the late Don Knotts. I dedicate this item to the memory of Ritter.

5 out of 5 stars Great Show, Great Season and nice price..........2007-06-11

I am so happy that 8 simple Rules is finally being released to DVD on 8/07/07 and season 1 is defintely one of my favorites out of all 3 hillarious seasons. I loved John Ritter in "Three's Company" and I think his roll in "8 Simple Rules is just as funny and a must own set. I was quite shocked at the low $17.99 price for this set and I would definitely pre-order it while the price is still good with all of the online market place sales that are going on right now temporarily.

Paul (John Ritter) died off of the show as well as in real life in the beggining of season 2 and I find some of the episodes very sad because I knew that he would no longer be in the following seasons. There was a special two part show entitled "Goodbye in season 2 for the loss of John Ritter. After that, there was a few following episodes that dealt with the family coping with their loss and the stress of the children losing there father. I thought that the show would never be the same after that but it quickly picked back up pace, in which the show survived until after the third season and then came to an end. I did miss John Ritter after he was no longer part of the cast but the show continued with great hillarious episodes and I think that the other seasons did remarkably well.

Buy and enjoy season 1 because John Ritter is on all of these shows and is so fun to watch. His memory through his comedic work is still with us and is here to be watched and enjoyed for all time. Here is a complete list of all 28 episodes that will be included with this set, including the rare pilot that started it all!

5 out of 5 stars Thrilled Grandma.......2007-07-04

I purchased this DVD for my grandson who is autistic. While not every autistic person responds to signing, my grandson does. so far, the results are fantastic! In three weeks his vocabulary has increased by nearly 50%, using both the signs and speaking the words. His parents are completely thrilled by the results. Another plus, his 2 year old sister's vocabulary has increased as well. I will eventually buy the whole set for them. Thanks so much Rachel and company!!

5 out of 5 stars My toddler can't get enough of signing time!.......2007-06-23

We have had the Signing Time videos for a year and a half. We own 8 of the videos. My son loves to watch these videos, and he asks me through signing to watch them often. My husband and I use the signs during the day as well. My son started signing at 13 months. He is now almost 2. At a recent family gathering I got many positive comments on my son's use of sign language. Many people told me that they have heard of babies and toddlers using sign language, but my son was the first baby they had actually witnessed using it. I really credit Signing Time for that.

You are certainly not going to become fluent in sign language by watching these videos. You will learn signs that your child will actually use such as; milk, water, dog, cat, mom and dad. If you continue with the series you will learn many more food signs, family signs, colors, numbers, animals, and feelings. These are all common words in a toddler's vocabluary.

Also, some people have expressed concerns that children who sign may not speak. This has not been my experience. My son says the word as he signs it. I highly recommend the whole Signing Time series to anyone who wants to learn basic signs to improve communication with theri baby or toddler.

5 out of 5 stars Signing Time Vol. 1 ,2 & 3.......2007-05-24

We love the Signing Time DVDs! It grabs your attention right from the beginning. The music is great and hearing the children's voices keeps my granddaughters attention. While at the grocery store, she signed apple which is not a word we taught her, she had learned it from the Signing Time DVD. I just ordered Volumes 4&5.

5 out of 5 stars Fun for the Whole Family.......2007-05-18

My 10 month old daughter saw this program on PBS and picked up the signs immediately. She used the signs for animals she saw outside the next day. We were so impressed we had to check out the rest of the shows.
Pros - My husband, daughter, and I all like to sit and watch these. They move quickly enough to keep all of our attention. They have enough examples that it's easy to learn. The songs are cute and catchy (they get better in the later dvds.)
Cons - Not as high quality as the later dvds. The price is high for such a short kid's program. I'd like to buy the baby signs programs for my son, but I don't want to spend so much.

I will purchase this entire set. We are buying them two at a time as my daughter masters them.

5 out of 5 stars amazing series.......2007-06-14

WONDERFUL < WONDERFUL WONDERFUL, all parents should get this for their babies/toddlers. Our daughter has just thrived on these 2 dvd's by mybabycantalk.com What a wonderful set. Get them BOTH. We only wish they would make MORE dvd's with more ASL-signing words for them to learn like this. She picked up the signs so quickly.

4 out of 5 stars This is helping my daughter learn her signs.......2007-06-13

We're pleased with this DVD - it holds my daughter's attention and has helped her with learning signs. I'm surprised words like mom and dad are not included, and dinosaur is. But overall, my duaghter enjoys it, she is learning, and we're very happy with this purchase.

5 out of 5 stars Guilt-free entertainment.......2007-06-09

My little guy LOVES the My Baby Can Talk series -- he'll stand quietly for 20 minutes at a time, just staring at the screen....sometimes doing the signs along with the people on the video. He's just about to turn one and already knows a handful of the signs -- what a treat to be able to communicate with him!

5 out of 5 stars fun.......2007-05-30

My child likes the "My Baby Can Talk" dvds (I've found 2 so far) better than the Einstein First Signs DVD that I bought. I am not sure why. What I have noticed is that they teach more words and try to give you a way to remember the sign. They also don't spend the first 3 minutes of a 25 minute disc advertising for their other products which is very annoying (of Einstein discs). I would definitely buy other discs in the series if there were some.

5 out of 5 stars Baby signing/speech.......2007-05-28

This is a great tool to use for young children who are having speech delays like my grandson who is 22 months old. He really likes this video...and it works well with his early intervention one on one. I highly recommend it. He picked up the signing so quickly...and also tries to say the words for each item.

There's a tantalizing touch of irony in the title My Summer of Love, since this superbly-acted relationship drama reveals much more than love between its curiously fascinating characters. As directed by Polish-born Pawel Pawlikowski (a veteran of British TV documentaries whose previous film was the praiseworthy Last Resort), this unconventional love story is an engrossing exercise in mood and psychology, set in a bleak but invitingly sunlit village in Yorkshire. It's there that lonely, working-class teenager Mona (Nathalie Press) encounters rebellious rich-girl Tamsin (Emily Blunt), and their unlikely friendship grows intimate... but is it really love? Or is Tamsin (who was suspended from boarding school) merely indulging her clever penchant for emotional manipulation during a lazy summer of privilege? Mona's born-again Christian brother (Paddy Considine) factors into the film's languorous mood and complex emotional landscape; this is a film in which love and loss are inseparably intertwined, and motivations remain partially hidden, making it all the more powerful when guarded truths are revealed. In addition to being a compelling study of class distinctions, My Summer of Love includes scenes of anxious menace and some unexpected surprises, packing more into 84 minutes than most films manage in two hours or more. Pawlikowski was listed among "10 directors to watch" in a 2005 article in Variety, and My Summer of Love validates that acclaim. --Jeff Shannon

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars A pretty good lesbian-themed movie........2007-06-20

"My Summer of Love" is a pretty good lesbian-themed film. However, everyone, whether gay or straight, will be sure to like this movie as it's mostly about two girls finding each other and becoming very good friends. It stars actresses Emily Blunt and Nathalie Press.

So what's this movie about? First of all, as I said above, this movie isn't completely about lesbians. In fact, Mona (played by Nathalie Press) appears to be into boys whereas Tamsin's (Emily Blunt) orientation isn't clear. There's really no main storyline in this film. Basically, the two girls meet and what starts out as innocent fun turns into something more. The majority of the film has the girls hanging out, like typical teens do. Eventually, the girls form a more "loving" relationship. The relationship is actually filled with lies and empty promises.

So what's to like about this movie? First of all, it's just an entertaining movie to watch. There's a few funny moments and a few sad moments that keep the movie going. There are a couple of scenes that will have you guessing what's going to happen. Although the ending is not the greatest, it fits perfectly with the rest of the movie. Second, you know going into it that SOMETHING is going to happen between the girls. The question is just when and how. Third, Emily Blunt is one of the main characters and her overall beauty will keep you glued to the screen.

And what's not to like? As I said above, there's no real storyline. A lot of the film shows the girls riding Mona's bike to different places and having fun. Everything comes together towards the end but it still doesn't make up for the rest of the movie.

As a lesbian-themed movie, this is a pretty good one. I wouldn't call it a lesbian film because when the girls do get together, I think it's all fun and games to them so no real relationship comes out of it. Calling this film a lesbian film would be like calling a film like "Anger Management" a lesbian film simply because there are two supposed "lesbians" in it. It's worth a watch anyway and straight people will probably enjoy it as well. I'm giving it 4 stars although if I wasn't into lesbian-themed movies, I may have given it only 3 stars.

5 out of 5 stars A Hidden Gem.......2007-06-14

It won British film of the year yet here in the US this film is completly under the radar. What a shame. I talk about this film in the same breath with One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest and Apocolypse Now as one of the best films I've ever seen.
The "problem" with the film is that it requires multiple viewings. On the second viewing you begin to realize that is not just a love story - this is a movie about us...all of us...and what the heck are we thinking when we sit down to watch a movie.

4 out of 5 stars about the film/movie my summer of love.................2006-12-11

Singapore theatre shown this film which was recorded from the DVD....hee hee ans the story is basically talking about the way of life of the two ladies. There is one sexual content while the other is the emulated sexual content done by the two ladies between a male and a female, just funny...ha ha ha....that's all. The story for this film is not bad afterall and is recommended to those whom are interested in this genre of films/movie. Anyone whom buy the film can hust have it.

5 out of 5 stars Unpredictable, well-written film.......2006-08-31

Five stars because I could not predict what would happen next, and because none of the main characters were cardboard cut-outs, as in Hollywood films. You can't point to the older brother and say, "Oh, well he's just a religious nut." They are people, and come across as such, with real faults and virtues, understandable and even lovable.

And, that is why the film will never be popular. Things are not spelled out. You have to do more than just sit there watching and absorbing. You have to think as you watch the film. I have noticed that thinking is very unpleasant for most people, and they will do anything to avoid it. Hence they will mark the film low because "it's thin on plot," or "not enough dialogue." Observe carefully, and read the body language and the facial expressions, in addition to hearing the dialogue. Then, you can understand and appreciate this excellent, beautiful, artistic film. Some of the scenes are just flat-out gorgeous, filmed in the countryside. The whole movie is like a vacation to which I wish I was invited.

Also, needless to say, the two lovers in question are gorgeous. I like the Celtic one best because she has the most color, orange and blue. Just watching her face and her body is justification enough for the whole movie. She also has a pulse, unlike her icy cold, Neitzche-admiring, elitist companion who, while pretty, could never be captivating. She just seems immediately dangerous from the get-go. You would not want to leave a pair of sharp scissors around her.

It's not a terribly sexy movie, in terms of flesh or action, and the lovers are naive first-timers, who probably need instruction on "what to do" and "how to do it". But then again, this ain't porn, but a romantic story about love. And it works as such. Very intelligent. Neat take on the whole "religion versus atheism" bag. I think the movie comes out for common sense in the end, embracing the classic British viewpoint that has prevailed since the Puritans were expelled.

5 out of 5 stars One of the best stories of our era.......2006-08-26

In this film you get a slow paced, simple dialgued, tale that begins to unfold and wrap the viewer into it.

The only way to truly understand the story is to have had exceptional loss yourself in your own life, then as the lead character realizes what the truth really is this story whollops a punch like no other.

All filmakers and students script should watch this film to study the way they tell the story. The characters are in absolute trauma from the loss of their parents, and at the end of the day no matter what they each seek to heal it... nothing works but coming home and spending time with one another, which is all they have left anyway.

It shows how the hurt feelings brought on by loss or abandonment resonate into actions that are outside of the norm in the human heart. Those reverberations are powerful motivators.

WOW powerful movie.

This is the near-legendary video that started the trend of songs for kids on video in 1986. The footage of kids playing in houses and backyards has a delightful homemade quality and is anchored by the songs of Hap Palmer, once dubbed the "Bob Dylan of the diaper set." His songs do have a nice folksiness that is just right. From the very first song, "Piggy Toes," you can see where the video is aimed: the Sesame Street group of infants to 6-year-olds. Palmer has a gift for writing bouncy numbers that go beyond the normal subject matter. "My Mommy Comes Back" speaks to kids who are left at Grandma's or a day care center ("my mommy comes back, she always comes back..."). Other songs on the 30-minute tape include "Shout & Whisper," "Rolling," and the self-explanatory "Today I Took My Diapers Off." --Doug Thomas

Description

Hap Palmer's sing-a-long tune invite childern to clap their hands, stomp their feet, dance and act out the lyrics. Songs include, "Piggy Toes", "Security", and "Today I Took My Diapers Off" among others.

5 out of 5 stars Triplet Mom's LIFESAVER.......2007-06-03

Ok, to begin with I had no idea who Hap was. I just knew that I didn't want my triplets hooked on broadcast TV stuff that was full of marketing, commercials, etc. So we ordered BabyFirstTV (kinda like HBO for babies) and during the programming they would show these videos. It didn't take long for me to notice that my kids were MESMERIZED by Palmer's music videos. I quickly recognized the prints and hairstyles from my own childhood (80's kid) and went on a search until I found the DVD's here. The kids LOVED them and now that they are almost two they actually ask for them by name. I would HIGHLY recommend these DVD's to anyone who is interested in exposing their children to music, rhyming, social skills, development skills, sillyness and laughter via your DVD player. I am not saying they take the place of actual experiences but they sure do enhance them. You don't know how handy it is to get your triplet toddlers to quickly cooperate and follow instructions by just singing a simple song to them. Anyway, long story short.... WE LOVE HAP PALMER AND THESE DVDs!

5 out of 5 stars So glad I found it!.......2007-05-21

I can't believe they still make this on DVD! I bought this on VHS back in 1990 for my son and then my daughter. He is now 17 and she is 13 and I just had another baby. I thought about how much they used to love this video. I figured I would give it a shot and try to find it and here it is. My kids used to watch it non-stop when they were little. I ordered it and can't wait to get it for my new baby.

4 out of 5 stars weird but true.......2007-05-15

This video is so cheesy and silly and seemingly low budget but for some reason, I haven't met a baby who isn't mesmerized by it. I had it for my kids and I just bought it for my new neice. Works every time.

5 out of 5 stars Great!.......2007-04-18

This was a great movie in our house. It taught the kids how to get dressed and use the potty. It is now gone since we sold it at a yard sale.

4 out of 5 stars Fun never gets outdated, right? Songs for real life........2007-03-16

I was looking for some songs my 1 1/2 yr old could enjoy that were fun and cute and not commercial. She watches very little TV and when it's on, it's usually because I need her distracted. This fit the bill perfectly. Baby Einstein was boring her and she was reacting to those images in stores, but she loves songs so I bought this. The first time I watched this, I cracked up the whole time because it is a flashback to the 80's. The hair and the clothes are so funny (as a child of the 80's). It also has a very "filmed in my basement" feel to it. Average every day (and sometimes homely) kids dancing around and making mistakes, puppets with big strings, and some strange amateur footage but through it all the cutest songs come through. We both love the songs. They have a very parent, real life oriented theme. My favorite is "My mommy comes back, she never would forget me" (all about going to school and babysitters). Her favorite is "my doggie" (person in giant dog costume dancing). I also like "sometimes my blanket gets washed" and "sharing." You get the drift..songs about things you want kids to do. There is a bath song, potty song, and whispering song too.

Save your money and don't even think to purchase this movie. This is one of the worst movies I've ever seen. Take my words.

3 out of 5 stars A good italian wine.......2005-11-05

... and as such an acceptable entertainment, but the after-taste is missing. The story tries to depict a normal family of four, living each its own separate life and pursuing their own individual dreams. The tension between their own routines and realities and what they would like to be makes them explode, one by one, and hit the wall, to come back again to reality and family unity at the end.

Some sort of fairy tale, actors and scenography are very good, emotions are openly ventilated - as in any good italian movie worth its name -, and a lot of scenes have real credibility.

But when the film is over, without the emotions, the scenography, the great looks of Valentina and the uncertain end of each of the four little stories, very little is left, and the whole exercise shows its superficiality. Just a good italian wine ...

5 out of 5 stars Looking For Sountrack.......2005-09-18

Can anyone tell me where I can get a soundtrack of the Italian film: Remember Me, My Love. Please respond.

4 out of 5 stars "You are what you choose to be.".......2005-07-31

"Remember Me, My Love" is the story of an Italian family in crisis. Father/husband Carlo Rustuccia (Fabrizio Bentivogolio) has dreams of one day finishing his novel. His wife Giulia (Laura Morante) once dreamed of being an actress, but instead she teaches English. Their teenage children Valentina (Nicoletta Romanoff) and Paolo (Silvio Muccino) have ambitions of their own. Dulled by boring lives and secretly full of resentments, Carlo and Guilia's marriage decays and they silently drift apart. Carlo's reunion with former lover, Alessia (Monica Bellucci) sends him spiraling into a passionate affair.

As Carlo rediscovers his love affair with Alessia, Guilia is persuaded to return to the stage by friends. While the parents head towards an inevitable crisis, both Valentina and Paolo strike out into the world seeking the things they want the most. Valentina is determined to win a spot on a tacky television programme and Paolo seeks to impress a girl in school.

"Remember Me, My Love" is an excellent examination of mid-life regrets. While Carlo doesn't really solve his regrets with the distractions of a destructive affair, he at least gains an indulgent ear from the luscious Belluci. Guilia's determination to succeed on the stage is in direct contrast with Valentina's approach towards an acting career. While Guilia is genuinely talented, her daughter, Valentina is not. Valentina possesses the moves of an exotic dancer, and she is determined to get that television spot. The film flirts with the notion that Valentina is just another beautiful body used and tossed aside by the wolves at the television studio. Fortunately, Valentina is made of resilient stuff--she's too shallow to suffer humiliations, and always sees herself as the triumphant heroine of any melodrama--even her own degradation. Ultimately it's the complicated nuances from director Gabriele Muccino that saves "Remember Me, My Love" from sinking into soap opera status. His characters create an interesting film and an ultimately elusive conclusion. In Italian with English subtitles--displacedhuman

It could be that the the bottle of Pinot that I had along with the movie that me biased, but I don't think so.

Keeping up with the best traditions of Italian cinema, this movie engrosses the viewer with its simple, yet very realistic dialog, characters and plot.

Through the scenes we experience the characters longing for the very basic human happiness. Each of them, is different and seeks a happiness of different form. But ultimately, they all are looking for the same thing.

5 out of 5 stars mister.......2007-01-06

This movie had been recommended to me. After viewing, I can see why. Although there was no acclaim, this story is a wonderful portrayal of not fitting in and trying to find your path in life, all it takes is someone to believe in you.

5 out of 5 stars I just watched this twice. I will watch it again!.......2006-12-09

I always like Leelee Sobieiski. In this she was perfection. Albert Brooks is always okay but I loved him in this. Carol Kane, Mary Kay Place, Michael McKean and John Goodman were the throw away characters. They all are wonderful in their parts but the movie is really alive when Leelee and Albert are on screen together. Great humour, great pathos, great sexual tension but no sex. What is it about? People. Think a Ghost World in which everyone is actually so much better off for having met. If you need a come on line how about this: "Is there a bathroom in this place or do you just go right on the floor."

4 out of 5 stars A sweet and special film........2006-09-19

Although Albert Brooks first achieved fame as a comedian he has proven to be the most natural of actors. He's perfect for this role which is both funny and heartbreaking.

My First Mister becomes a bit of a tearjerker toward the end, but the story, of a friendship between two seemingly mismatched people is such a treasure, a little soap opera can be forgiven.

My only reservation is that while the main characters are so finely tuned, the parents are silly, over the top stereotypes. But they occupy just a small portion of the story.

5 out of 5 stars Unexpected gem - real friendship explored on film.......2006-06-04

Angry and sad goth girl meets middle-aged boring guy. These lonely people seek each other out and build a real friendship.

A refreshing film without big scenes or large explosions instead just a series of little moments. Just like real life.

Surprisingly effective portrayal of a disaffected teenager, the kind who's too cool to fit in or make a connection with anybody else.

Everybody in this film is quite the character. Even the "boring" characters are interesting and lovingly portrayed.

Somewhat of a surprise ending as a tear-jerker.

4 out of 5 stars I'm Uncle Fester, I'm Andy of Mayberry, I'm Mr. Roper, I'm Grandpa Munster........2006-05-04

I was not ready for such a powerful, intelligent, and intricately detailed film. I had read several glowing reviews for Christine Lahti's official directorial debut, but I had just assumed this would be another Hollywood schlock-fest featuring the dry humor of Albert Brooks (which I find grows on my with each new film) and Leelee Sobieski attempting to reconnect with a teenie-bopper audience. I was wrong. To be perfectly frank with you, I was dead wrong. This was such a strong film that dedicated itself to developing strong characters, to giving us honest emotions, and providing us a story that is not unfamiliar in the "real" world that it nearly left my jaw hanging on the ground. From the opening moments in which we are focused directly on the life of Jennifer (aka "J") to the unrecognizable change to following Randall (aka "R") My First Mister will make you laugh, make you cry, and make you realize that friendship is stronger than the clothes you wear or the amount of piercings on you face. Through the use of Brooks' "every man" persona and Sobieski's attention to detail with her character, this film gives us a rare glimpse into Lahti's near-perfect film.

What initially pulled me into this film was the untraditional Hollywood story that scribe Jill Franklyn unfolds before us. I assumed, prior to watching the film that this was going to be a sexual film mocking the taboos of age in our society. From the completely baffling byline, one could only assume that we were about to experience an early version of Thirteen, but Lahti and Franklyn do something rather unexpected. The idea of sex is placed in front of us early in the film and prior to the climax, but it isn't the central focus. By building this film around the premise of friendship instead of sex, Lahti creates a unique and poignant film about other cultural taboos in our society. She eliminates the idea of sex and gives us two strong-willed characters that, perhaps in another life, may have had a sexual relationship, but now are just seeking companionship and comfort. What brings a smile to my face with this story is the way that it is developed. Lahti nearly teases us with the idea of a sexual story several times, but instead builds a solid foundation around friendship. She makes us, the audience, feel as if we are meeting two friends for the first time. By eliminating sex, she pulls us deeper within the characters allowing us to see the true "love" that is obviously between these visual opposites. I use the word "visual" because we do not believe their connection at first because of the clothes that they wear. Lahti uses this technique to trick us. A Goth girl befriends Mr. Rogers? Society would tell us that this could never happen, but the Lahti persuades us by giving us two of the strongest characters to play against each other in modern cinematic history.

I realize that others would argue that there have been stronger matching in Hollywood long before Brooks and Sobieski, which I would agree of classic Hollywood, but recently (basically 80s to present) it is hard to find two actors that seem to compliment each other like a great cheese and aged red wine. Brooks and Sobieski took me away from them, as the actors, and gave me a whole new viewing experience. Sobieski dove, head first, into her character giving "J" mannerisms and characteristics that seemed pure and researched. I felt as if Sobieski was one of those misunderstood Goths that I had class with in school. From the poetry, the eye movements when speaking, and the overall self-abusive negativity that she has against herself as well as those around her. She patiently waits for the right person to enter her insane life and finds that with Brooks. For those seeking his typical sarcasm and wry attitude, My First Mister may disappoint. Albert Brooks contains himself in this film. He does so to the point that midway through the feature I forgot that it was funnyman Brooks. He amazingly transforms himself into an older version, in a khaki color, of "J". Odd to say, but that is why these two "opposites" attracted so well. The two play so well off each other that as an audience member you have the chance to enjoy both the acting as well as a very strongly developed story about family and friendship.

I have talked about the story, I have talked about the characters, but none of this would have been possible if it were not for the brilliant direction behind the camera and the talented eye of minimal director Christine Lahti. At first I was unsure of how well she would be able to handle such a deeply emotional topic, if she would clich? the characters and fill their mouths with remedial dialogue that would be painful to both the eyes and ears, but instead she remained calm, cool, and completely collective throughout the entire film. It was obvious that she had done her homework prior to each scene and before each take. She had the control of her actors, which developed into some great on-screen chemistry, as well as she knew how to tactfully take us to the next emotional level. Sure, it wasn't perfect (the ending seemed a bit tattered), but Lahti remained focused and even cleverly changed the focus throughout the film with the greatest of ease. We began with "J", moved to "R", and went back to "J" for the final tearful moments. Other directors would have had our minds in a fix, but Lahti was delicate and truthful to the foundation that she had just set. I was surprised to see that Lahti has not directed more after this project, because it was obvious that her talent was behind the camera (as well as in front).

Overall, I thought My First Mister was a sensational film. This was the epitome of the "diamond in the rough" cinema. We had a superb cast that complimented each other so well that we could easily forget that we were watching a film. We had a story that spoke emotionally and socially about friendship and family on more than just a "June Cleaver" level. Finally, we had a director that was not afraid to take risks and do her homework. This story works on so many levels that to begin to unravel it would take more time than allowed. I suggest this film strongly because it will make you think twice about passing judgment on someone due to their clothes or piercing habits, who knows where friendship could erupt!
