Scars (Bullying Prevention Series)

Director: Thomas Brown
Studio: PizzaOwl Productions
Product Type: DVD
Editorial Review:
Description
From the creator of "Broken Toy," "Empty Shadows," and "Epilogue" comes a powerful and uplifting story about a bully who had to become a victim in order to understand the pain of bullied and tormented children.
"SCARS" tells the story of a popular middle school student named Billy, whom along with his best friends, picks on a smaller boy named Christopher. Christopher, who lost his mother to cancer six months earlier, remains the target of cruel remarks; even those about his mom.
Billy would have continued hurting Christopher if it wasn't for a sudden unforeseen event in Billy's life--an accident that changes his life forever. Now, scarred from being burned, he is the one who is different and his former friends turn on him. A move to a new school shows Billy the value of acceptance, sensitivity and becoming a caring person. Study guide included for classroom settings.

Back to the Castle.......2007-03-17
If you like the Chris Lee Dracula films as much as I do, I would recommend getting this one along with Horror of Dracula, Dracula-Prince of Darkness, and Dracula has Risen from the Grave. This one follows the same style setting---England in the 1800's. This particular film has a good bit of supense, and Lee is really evil in this one. Much better than Taste the Blood and AD 1972, this movie follows a formula that really works best for Lee's portrayal of this character---it was a return to form with Lee playing the darker, deadlier Dracula that he was in the first 3 films. The storyline is similiar, of course, with Dracula wreaking havoc on a local community who cower at the mention of his name until a young hero arrives to save the day. The ending is typical, but there is a twist. I won't give it away totally, but the hero thinks he has Dracula when he spears him with a long metal spike only to see Dracula smile and pull the spike out without leaving a mark or any drop of blood.
A strong entry in a strong series........2007-02-01
This is a surprisingly good edition to Hammer's classic Dracula series, though it's certainly not the strongest of the films in the franchise. It is, however, the most risqué, surprisingly so. In addition, this Anchor Bay release of the film has a bonus second feature entitled; The Many Faces of Christopher Lee, which is a lot of fun for fans of the legendary actor, especially the ludicrous music videos included, which are absolutely hilarious. Really, Hammer never made a bad Dracula or Frankenstein film, and it's a shame that most modern horror enthusiasts lack an appreciation for these old gems, because they're really missing out. This one is especially worth picking up, because of the second feature, and perhaps might be a good entry level film for modern film goers, since there is a bit more blood and skin in this one.
Also, in response to an earlier reviewer's statements, Bela Lugosi only played Dracula twice on film, once in Dracula, and once in Abbot and Costello Meet Frankenstein. Christopher Lee, however, played him ten times, and for my money, is the superior count.
this Dracula serie lacks of Van Helsing.......2006-10-28
here are some reasons, why this series becomes one of the weakest Hammer's British Dracula: 1. The very weak priest can't fight against the evil spirit, the actor has not a big talent and the role is not strong enough as Peter Cushing was. 2. The female stars are acting really awful 3. Dennis Waterman has no immense charisma to fight the almighty Dracula, neither does Chris Matthews (Paul). 4. The most worst of all is: Christopher Lee felt very boring to play the same role as Count Dracula. One can notice clearly that his acting was embarrassing and tedious during the movie set. Lee failed to balance the role in this film, which the excellent performance of Bela Lugosi had already appeared 40 years earlier
Christopher Lee could replace his predecessor Bela Lugosi as Count.......2006-09-26
Christopher Lee could balance and continue his charismatic predecessor Bela Lugosi(1882 - 1956) in the 60's Hammer british Dracula series.
This film is a great example for Lee as Count.
The differences are:
- Lugosi was more a theatrical Dracula from Broadway. Lugosi acted very elegant, exclusive & gentleman as a Dracula star. His charming style becomes a legend.
- Lee is more a mainstream Dracula star. He is not a theatre star like Lugosi did in 1931. He'd prefer a type of cold elegant beast. His style is less charming because he has to accustom himself into various directions in eight Dracula series.
Lugosi played as Dracula three times:
1. Dracula 1931
2. Return of the Vampire 1944
3. Mark of the Vampire 1935
Lee played as Dracula 8 times (see Filmography Imdb)
Frankly Bela Lugosi was a bit more charismatic than Christopher Lee, but Christopher Lee could balance the great charisma of his great predecessor.
Scars? Getting Hardpressed For Titles Weren't They?.......2006-07-21
Yes, the Hammer Dracula series continues, and this would be the last of the gothic era films. Roy Ward Baker has inherited the franchise and he does a rather good directing job considering the material isn't too original this time around. In the previous film, they tried to up the ante a bit by slapping an R rating on the series. It didn't really seem to achieve one, but Scars does. One scene has Dracula violently stabbing a woman to death. This may not be too shocking by today's standards, but it probably shocked at the time. It still is kinda brutal though. Plus we have a church full of bloody corpses from a rubber vampire bat attack. Scars also seems to be a sequel to Taste, though there are some major continuity errors between the two. This film has my vote for the most laughable "birth"(especially the birth!) and "death" of Dracula. Plotwise, it's rather simple. A couple of unsuspecting Britishfolk stumble onto Dracula's castle and must escape and destroy the evil. That's really about it. Dracula's a little more talkative this time around. Though Lee supposedly was sick of the role by this time, he can still do it like no one can. Even a tired performance by Lee is a good one! Of course we get the great gothic atmosphere, a sinister castle, sexy women and Michael Ripper! What more do you need? Plus it comes with a great Christopher Lee documentary/interview disc that runs about an hour. Man, he really seems like a cool guy. Well worth it.

hardly any live footage.......2006-03-25
Let me preface this review by saying I've been a fan of Darkest Hour for a few years and seen a couple of their live shows, so I was really hoping for a lot more live footage of the band and this DVD kinda let me down. It's an interesting DVD to get to know the guys in the band and finding out about their history, but as far as music goes it doesn't have all that much to offer and the video of the shows that is in the DVD is edited like a music video.
If you're a diehard fan you'd be into this as there are some funny bits, but if you're looking to relive their intense live shows you'll be disappointed.
Hilarious........2005-04-30
This DVD was pretty hilarious. It's just the band being pretty laid back. An overall lack of good live footage, but the interviews alone are worth the price. Good buy. These guys don't act like rockstars, definitely down to earth dudes.
I'm a huge Darkest Hour fan....but not of this DVD.......2005-04-12
The first time I saw (or heard of) Darkest Hour was at a American Legion hall in Buena Vista, VA (town of 6000), with no stage and only about 30-40 kids in attendance. DH blew me away. Needless to say, I've been a huge fan ever since, have seen them numerous times, and have been fortunate enough to talk with some of them individually before shows. Very down-to-earth, very approachable. That's why I was excited when I heard about this DVD: live footage mixed with interviews. The best of both worlds- the energy of the shows, the personalities of the band members. Or that's what I thought. The best thing about this DVD is the interviews. The footage really captures each member's personality accurately, and the stories told are interesting, especially for DH fans. The worst thing: the live footage. Every 'live' song is simply the studio track with montages of live footage. I was hoping to actually see, AND HEAR, some live songs, you know, to bring me back to the memory of being at the shows. Unfortunately, such footage is not on the DVD. Save your money, go to the shows, and meet the band members in person. Recommended only for people who just can't get enough of this band (like me), and would rather own the video and not like it than not to own it at all.

The cast of Rumiko Takahasi's "feudal fairy tale" begins to discover both the extent and the limits of their powers, as director Masashi Ikeda sets the machinery for the ultimate battle into place. Sango recognizes that she will betray her comrades, if she thinks it will restore the life of her brother Kohaku. Miroku learns that the curse that afflicts his right hand may shorten his life. Inu-Yasha discovers just how formidable a weapon the Tetsusaiga, the enchanted sword carved from one of his father's fangs, can be. The evil demon Naraku is stunned to find that Kagome's arrows strike with the same deadly force as her ancestor Kikyo's. But the characters don't yet fully comprehend the source of their magical strengths and weaknesses, so they will have to grow as they learn--and the story continues. (Unrated, suitable for ages 13 and older: violence, grotesque imagery, brief nudity) --Charles Solomon
Description
Contains Episodes 28-30 During a routine demon-slaying, Miroku wanders away from the others in pursuit of a young woman. (Predictably, she turns out to be a giant mantris-demon in disguise.) Although the enemy is dispatched easily enough by means of Miroku's Wind Tunnel, as it vanishes into the void of Miroku's hand, its claw damages the edge and now Miroku must return to the monk who helped read him, in hopes that the damage can be repaired before the wound grows and eventually swallows him whole. Later, the group reaches a village whose inhabitants have been slain by the weapon of a Demon-Slayer. Kohaku, the younger brother of Sango who died in Naraku's castle, appears to have been involved. Sango chases him, only to find herself before Naraku himself. Told that it was he who brought Kohaku back to life (using a shard of the Sacred Jewel, no less), Sango is ordered by Naraku to steal Tetsusaiga from InuYasha
else Kohaku die a second time.

HOW FAR WILL YOU GO?.......2005-09-05
First off, we all know the weakness for women that Miroku suffers from. But what happens when a demon lurks behind that pretty face, and especially a mantis demon! And we all know what a mantis does after mating! Naraku has shown before that he has no compunctions about killing innocents to get the Shikon Jewel, but in this 10th volume, he sinks to new lows. After commanding a resurrected Kohaku to murder an entire village of innocent people to draw Inuyasha and company into a trap, his next mission is to kill our heroes. Including his own sister!
After a lackluster first episode, the other two shows on this disk aspire to very deep emotional territory. How do you kill your own brother? Do you betray your friends in order to save even a shadow of him? And the theme of using loved ones against each other especially hits a chord with Inuyasha, who was mistakenly accused of betraying the woman he loved, thanks to Naraku's imposture. Excellent show!

Inuyasha (1997.)
INTRODUCTION:
When I was younger, I was a big-time anime fan. Although little of the Japanese animation was being shown on American TV back then, what little I saw, I liked. It fast became apparent that the Japanese had a much better way of creating animation - one that fused seriousness and comedy perfectly, and one that would appeal to people of all ages - NOT just children. And in recent years I had pretty much abandoned my interest in anime altogether. However, I had always remained curious, and in the more recent years I had heard of a series called Inuyasha that was constantly getting praised. I watched a few episodes, and it wasn't hard to see why. The series was created by Rumiko Takahashi, creator of Ranma 1/2 (a series that remains VERY popular.) Although I liked the episodes I saw on TV, they started somewhere in the middle of things, and I wanted to get the story from the beginning. Read on for my review of Inuyasha.
STORYLINE:
Inuyasha has one of those stories that's EXTREMELY tough to put into words, but I'll try my best. Bear with me here, people. Several centuries ago in Japan, there were ongoing wars, between humans and demons alike. In modern-day japan, a girl named Kagome lives on a shrine with her family, and one day one of the demons from the past pulls her down the shrine's well. The well is a linking point between the modern age and the age in the distant past, in which wars were raging constantly. She is revealed to be the reincarnation of a priestess who, several years earier, killed an evil half-demon called Inuyasha. But, through several odd twists of fate, she is forced to join forces with the resurrected Inuyasha, to recover the shards of a sacred jewel, which could be used to greatly increase the powers of and demon, good or evil, who gets their hands on them. Although reluctant to help at first, Kagome finally decides to help Inuyasha, realizing that the well is the warp point between times, she doesn't want to put her family in immediate danger. (I KNOW, that's not the best possible summary. If you want a better one, visit one of the various fansites.)
OPINIONS:
Overall, I am very satisfied with this series - it's been a LONG time since I liked an anime and/or manga this much. Rumiko Takahashi has once again succeded beautifully, combining seriousness with comedy, and creating an excellent storyline fusing history and fantasy alike. It was great to finally get the proper introduction to the series. I urge you to get the proper introduction yourself, as well. If you just start watching/reading somewhere in the middle of the series, you may be left dazed and confused and judge the series based on an awkward first impression. DON'T make that mistake.
DVD:
The anime itself gets five stars, no questions asked. Even the dub version is very good (you WON'T find me saying that often, either.) Still, you get both a sub and dub version, which is a big convenience. But these DVDs are a total rip-off - much like with the Dragonball Z DVDs, you have to pay $25 for ONLY THREE EPISODES! They're dub and sub alike, but that asking price is too high. Not to mention the so-called "extras" are nothing special. It's because of this I recommend the manga over the anime - not to mention the manga came before the anime and is, therefore, Takahashi's original projected vision of the series. So I recommend the manga over the anime, unless you absolutely loathe reading or unless you prefer video and are willing to pay the price for it. I like the cover of DVD Volume 10 better than the cover of any other volume, for obvious reasons.
OVERALL:
Inuyasha is the best anime/manga series to come along for me in a long time. It's not hard to see why so many people call it one of their favorites. Like I said before, I personally recommend the manga over the anime, since the manga came first and is, therefore, Takahashi's original vision. And obviously, the DVDs are a rip-off pricewise. But whether you decide to do the anime, the manga, or both, you're likely to agree it's an excellent series. If not for the DVDs being ridiculously overpriced, I would have given this five stars.
*.......2005-07-17
I think it was wrong when Songo and Kagome was bating in a hot springs naked and when one of them screem. All Miroku and Inuyasha was doing is tring to see what the problem was they thought the girls were in danger. When the boys saw the girls naked they got hit on the head for that.

Worked for me.......2003-09-21
These are not Oscar material, but there was enough flesh to get a person excited, its entertaining enough. Its two movies so if you can get the DVd for five bucks or so its cheaper than renting and worth the trouble.
Awful.......2003-09-12
"Leaving scars" is boring and witless. For a softcore video, there is very little to look at.
"Emmanuelle, Queen of the Desert" is a poor transfer of a softcore movie that thinks it is a western with something new to add to the genre. It also has nothing in common with any Emmanuelle you might be used to.
I was suckered by the bargain price. Don't follow my lead.
Are you buying this for the sex? Then don't..........2003-09-11
Both movies are pretty so-so. Which is to be expected but the sex is almost non existent. There's maybe two scenes between the two movies that are over a minute in length. The rest of the scenes are pretty short and far and few in between. Despite the price I wouldn't recommend it if you're looking for something to get you and your partner in the mode.
Lisa Boyle and Laura Gemser.......2002-12-06
This double feature DVD has "Baywatch" girl Lisa Boyle (in "Leaving Scars") and "Black Emmanuelle" Laura Gemser (in "Emmanuelle, Queen of the Desert"). It should be noted that the latter is otherwise entitled "The Dirty Seven" or "La Belva dalle calda pelle" (as listed by Amazon). Whether you think Ms. Boyle is hotter than Ms. Gemser or vise versa, this double hottie at a bargain price shouldn't be missed out. I would recommend, however, that you also check out "Friend of the Family" (Lisa Boyle, Shauna O'Brien & Griffin Drew) and "Emmanuelle 2" (Laura Gemser & Sylvia Krystel).

Yu-Gi-Oh DVD VOL 6 The Scars Of Defeat.......2004-06-16
I do not have this dvd but I do know what contains in this dvd
the 3 episodes are: Kaiba duels Jounouchi / Joey , Jounouchi is the Japanese name that they call Joey in the Japanese series any way the other 2 episodes are Joey vs Bonz in the graveyard field. The Yu-Gi-Oh dvds that you really shoul get are the ones in the Japanese series, because thoes dvds will contain new episodes , English subtitles which is used to read the words and know what the characters are saying and it will have 04-11 episodes and if you do not believe me then go ahead don't buy the Japanese series where you can see new episodes so far I did heard somewhere on the internet site that YU-GI-OH in Japan already ended. And in the Japanese YU-GI-OH their are secense that are too violent in the US episodes and that stinks that there will be to alot of secnes that won't be in the US version for example:
~DUELIST KINGDOM~After Joey defeated Rex at Duelist Kingdom and where Tea is taking a shower the the thing that Tea heard was just Joey and Tristan are about to merge into the shower and see Tea in their with no closthes on and Mai clobered them both.
~BATTLE CITY/BATTLE SHIP~When dark Bakura was walking with the bandaids on this arm the blood was removed from his arm and replaced just plain white , and when the Battle Ship took off dark Bakura was grabbing meat like a wild animal and eating it like crazy.
~KAIBA CORP ISLAND /// ALACTRAZ DUEL TOWER~When Joey vs Marik in the first part where Joey activated his ScapGoat magic card the yellow Scape Goat was glowing white and in the Japanese series their was no white light on the Scape Goat I mean where could the White glowing thing could have come from?
~MYSTERY DUELIST~ When Banid Keith was controled by Marik Ishtar and when he summoned Zera the Mant and destroyed the Summoned Skull the green glowing thing was not included in the Japanese version.
~DUELIST KINGDOM~Where Joey vs Banid Keith in the 2nd part Keith was spitting and was not included in the US version.
~DUELIST KINGDOM~ When Joey met Zigor , Zigor punched Joey in the stomach and was cut out of the US version.
