Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars D'accord (rating reflects lack of track listings, not content).......2006-02-25

I agree with the previous reviewer. I'm a huge fan of these old cartoons and it's hard enough to collect them without duplication, so please list what's on the disk! Also, I was gratified to read the review (which rang sincere) written by a member of the restoration team and will now look for their releases IF SOMEONE BOTHERS TO LIST WHAT'S ON THEM!

Update: I did a search and found the contents, so here they are:

"Before the advent of television, animated shorts were screened in movie theaters as part of the pre-feature presentation. When those classic cartoons were finally aired on television in the 1950s and '60s, many were shortened to fit into required broadcast time limits. Boasting crisply remastered sound and picture quality, this collection restores nine classic Christmas-themed cartoons to their original theatrical lengths for an authentic moviegoing experience from the Golden Age of Cinema: 'Ginger Nutt's Christmas Circus,' 'Peeping Penguins,' 'A Waif's Welcome,' 'Christmas Comes But Once a Year,' 'Jack Frost,' 'Hawaiian Birds,' 'Hector's Hectic Life,' 'Snow Foolin',' and Max Fleischer's 'Somewhere in Dreamland,' which appears in its original Technicolored full-length for the first time in 50 years."

I notice that a third of these aren't duplications of titles in other collections I own (in fact, two appear on the hard-to-find Cartoon Crazy's Christmas and one I've never seen before at all), so I'll be ordering this one.

If the aforementioned restoration team member reads this, please restore and release more of these cartoons--this is classic stuff and should remain available. Cleaning it up ensures its accessibility to future generations of animation fans of all ages--I have friends (most of them foreign-born) with very young children, and they AND their kids LOVE this stuff, so there's definitely a market for it, especially if promoted properly. And if you're taking requests, Charles Mintz's The Little Match Girl (1937) doesn't seem to be available anywhere...

Update #2: I bit the bullet and ordered the disk. The selections all look and sound great; clearly a lot of restoration effort went into this release (even the non-Technicolor 'toons are gorgeous). There is a minor quibble though...only a few of the selections are actually Christmas-themed (the balance could be accurately termed "winter-themed," I guess). I recommend the set because the cartoons are fun, look great, and the price is right; let's give them the incentive to keep restoring by buying this release.

3 out of 5 stars what's on it?.......2006-01-16

It'd be nice if there was a listing of the cartoons so the customer knew what they were getting.

5 out of 5 stars Great product for the family and animation fans!.......2005-03-30

i wanted to tell everyone about this product since we are the people who produced it. I am using my wifes Amazon account to post this.

We have taken some of the greatest classic cartoons ever produced, from some of the greatest animators in history, and meticulously added hundreds of hours and hundreds of thousands of dollars of detailed restoration to both the sound and images in order to make them look as good as they did the day they were first released. Each cartoon is digitally processed first through photo shop frame by frame, and then using both the Davinci and the new Pogo systems to remove every scratch, line, dropout and artifact possible. We then we do a full color restoration at Technicolor using the original color palates to match the colors, tones and shades. We then digitally clean up the sound track to remove all the hiss and scratches and carefully add new foley sound effects, ambience and digitally remix them back onto the cartoons.

The result is our animated DVD series which is currently distributed in both the United States and Canada by Goodtimes Entertainment. These fully restored, full motion, color animations have not been seen in this condition since their original theatrical release. Sit back and be amazed and enjoy some of the finest and funniest animation ever made.

thats why were to only studio doing these that have the blessing and participation of Fleischer Studios and the only one to receive the prestigious Gold Medal from the Classic Animation Preservation Society.

I highly recomend this product to any lovers of classic animation.
