Barney and his pals take a trip to Grandpa's farm and find that a magical egg--which is due to hatch any moment--is missing. As opposed to the studio-bound television show, this feature film has a lot more visual diversity and is a bright, good-looking production. Barney fans will appreciate the broader production scale--even if they don't realize it. --Tom Keogh

Barney movie is ok.......2007-06-30
Well I like the show better then the movie. Though if you are really a fan of Barney then you should watch his original such as this one.....Good Day Good Night W/ Pals
Barney is a blast.......2007-01-03
Great movie and it came in from Amazon early with no damage. I highly recommend this movie to those young Barney fans.
Alright for Barney, A kiddie movie worth watching.......2006-07-18
Barney the Dinosaur. I grew up watching this purple pal and lately as I grow much older than I was, I tend to get relatively disinterested in much of the other PBS broadcasting. But I picked up Barney's Great Adventure on DVD at the Wal-Mart I work in, and discovered that you can still be a big kid, and enjoy the movie with the littler ones you love.
The story follows three children. Abby and Marcella, two girls rich in imagination and dreams, who love Barney and play with the doll constantly, and Cody, a cynical young boy who is trying to be cool and doesnt automatically believe in Barney.
During a game of keep away started by Cody, Barney comes to large life thereby starting a chain of events that sends Cody reeling for the adventure he always dreamed of. Cody of course is stalwart in his disbelief of Barney, warning this may upset younger viewers because of the rude things said to Barney.
A night time conversation between Cody and Barney reveal Cody's need for adventure and the "cool" things. Trying to sway Cody to the perks of imagination, Barney encourages Cody to wish on a star. Well that star turns out to be a Dream Maker egg and it sends Barney and Friends on a wild egg hunt trying to find out what's inside it, as well as rescue it before too late.
With appearances by BJ and Baby Bop, the movie goes into more of it's more hilarious antics. Finally, when Twinken the Dream Maker hatches from his egg, Abby gets to see her dream more clearly, and Cody apologizes to Barney with an admission that the Purple Dinosaur is cool after all.
My opinion? Well, the movie is not entirely big budget, and nothing that could contend with Superman Returns or Ice Age 2, or Pixar's Cars. But kids of ALL ages, should appreciate the heart, and the intent of what the movie tries to say to us all. Will I ever continue to watch the show? Maybe, maybe not. But I will watch the movie over and over again.
And maybe, just maybe, through our own imaginations and determination, we all might make our own dreams come true. That message is what Barney and Friends put forth in the movie. Goes the same for kids and adults. I cant say for sure that every kid will like this movie. I did. And I recommend it for anybody who still believes that they can sing and dance and for one day if nothing else, hang with Barney. I think he's cool.
As an afterthought. Keep an eye out for performances by two of todays young actors. You might recognize Kyla Pratt from Dr. Dolittle and The Proud Family. And Trevor Morgan can be seen in the Spielberg dino movie(coming full circle are we?) Jurassic Park 3. George Hearn, of Annie fame, is the kids' grandpa.
Barney is my pal.......2006-07-08
Barney the purple dinosaur wants you to go placidly amid the noise and waste, And remember what comfort there may be in owning a piece thereof. Avoid quiet and passive persons unless you are in need of sleep. Rotate your tires. Speak glowingly of those greater than yourself, And heed well their advice, even though they be turkeys. Know what to kiss and when. Consider that two wrongs never make a right, But that three lefts do. Wherever possible put people on "HOLD". Be comforted that in the face of all aridity and disillusionment, And despite the changing fortunes of time, There is always a big future in computer maintenance. Remember the Pueblo. Strive at all times to bend, fold, spindle and mutilate. Know yourself. If you need help, call the FBI. Exercise caution in your daily affairs, Especially with those persons closest to you; That lemon on your left for instance. Be assured that a walk through the ocean of most souls, Would scarcely get your feet wet. Fall not in love therefore; it will stick to your face. Carefully surrender the things of youth: birds, clean air, tuna, Taiwan, And let not the sands of time get in your lunch. For a good time, call 606-4311. Take heart amid the deepening gloom that your dog is finally getting enough cheese; And reflect that whatever fortunes may be your lot, It could only be worse in Sioux City. You are a fluke of the Universe. You have no right to be here, and whether you can hear it or not, The Universe is laughing behind your back. Therefore make peace with your God whatever you conceive him to be, Hairy Thunderer or Cosmic Muffin. With all its hopes, dreams, promises, and urban renewal, The world continues to deteriorate. Give up... but before you do, buy the Barney dvd!
Good, for Barney!.......2006-04-19
I am twelve, so it is rather weird for me to say that I really enjoyed this movie! Last autumn my parents got it from the library for my little brother, who is two. I was sure it would be a normal boring Barney movie, so I didn't watch it. Then I took a peek at the movie in the middle, just after they lost the egg, and wathced until the end. The next day I watched from the beginning until where I left off. It is better than anything Barney has done so far! I especially liked it because I was rather depressed at the time, and the themes of the movie were to use your imagination and never give up.
The movie starts when Abagail, a girl of about eight, her older brother Cody, and Abagail's best friend Marcella, all take a trip to Grandma and Grandpa's farm. Cody is a pessimist and is not looking forward to the trip, so when the two girls try to get him to play pretend with them, he steals their Barney doll and hides it in the shower. Then Barney comes to life! Cody keeps trying to get rid of him or at least show him to their grandparents to prove that he is not real, but nithing works. That night Cody is encouraged by Barney to wish upon a star, so Cody bursts out, "I wish we could have a real adventure this summer! Do things no one else has done before. That would be cool."
Cody's wish came true in an unexpected way when the star he wishes upon falls from the sky and turns into an egg that Cody finds in his barn the next day. The three kids and Barney take the egg to Mrs. Goldfinch, an eccentric lady who loves birds. After a lot of research, she tells them that it is a Dream Maker and that when all five rings change color they must take it back to the place where Cody first found it, the barn. Just then the egg falls out the window, and the adventure that follows includes a parade, a fancy French restaraunt, a circus, and a balloon launching. In the end Cody learns that imagination is a great thing to have.
The movie has some wonderful songs, including "Barney's world of imagination," "Imagine," "What's inside it?," "We're gonna find a way," and "You can do anything (from the credits)." For once, the Barney kids were not goody-goody, and did not seem to be reciting their lines in the boring monotone that is on the TV show, but with real expression. Probably the dumbest scene was when the man was driving and cooking at the same time. It is a great movie that people of all ages will enjoy, and it also teaches the lessons of perseverance and imagination without rubbing in morals. Everyone in my family, my little brother, me, even my parents, thought it was really good.

Dark, Disturbing, and Fascinating.......2006-05-07
I must say I found the movie to be much more interesting than the other reviewers. If your a fan of Mid- Century Crime movies such as "Odds Against Tomorrow" you will like this one. Characters range from psyco to sordid and sad. I'm not familiar with the director or the other actors besides McQueen, but the performaces are complex and outstanding. Cinematography is reminiscient of old "Highway Patrol" TV series. Recurring rockabilly song heard in background on car radio, jukebox, etc. Interesting look at 1950's St. Louis. One daring and creepy aspect of the movie is the homosexuality of the dominant, psyco leader of the group, John Egan. He and Willie's relationship is alluded to as beginning in prison, and Egan holds his attraction to the McQueen character as a threat over Willie's head, which leads to Willie's animosity toward McQueen, who seems to start to catch on to it at the end. McQueen's girlfriend's realization of Egan's homosexual attraction to McQueen on a fire escape with Egan leads to her downfall.
One of the King Of Cool's first films.......2006-01-23
One of the first films of the King Of Cool the Great St. Louis Bank Robbery is not a bad heist film for its low budget and being made in 1959.Also the film is based on actual events in St. Louis with many of the police officers playing roles in the film.
The story is about George Fowler (Steve McQueen) he is hired to be the getaway driver in a bank robbery by a old friend Gino (David Clarke). He meets with the rest of the crew the methodical John Egan the boss (Crahan Denton) and Willie (James Dukas) the criminal that has past his prime and jealous of George's importance in the robbery.Throught the film we see the preparation for the robbery and George's involment with a past love.
What I liked about this film despite it being a old film and in black and white its that its good heist film. Its cool how they prepare the heist.Timing the runs and checking for cops close to the bank.Another thing is the film feels real and the plot doesn't go to extremes like some other films that we have today. Also there is a scene in the film that I especially liked was where Gino is in the bathroom shaving and George closes the door and Gino realises how small the bathroom is and claustrophobic of it reminding how jail is to locked up.Today in films criminals act like its nothing getting out of jail.
The DVD is a barebones release.Nothing at all.Dont expect in the near future any special edition. But if you really like this film get because just look at the price 4 dollars.Who can beat that.
A entertaining and quick film with good performances. Not a bad heist film with no happy ending for a change than most cliché films.Any Steve McQueen fans should see this to look at the start of this legend's career.
Very good Steve McQueen, surprisingly good movie.......2004-07-30
The Great St. Louis Bank Robbery is an exciting movie featuring a young Steve McQueen. McQueen plays George Fowler, the getaway driver for a group of three robbers attempting to rob the Southwest Bank in the city of St. Louis. The four men must watch and observe the bank to see when the officers on duty change shifts, the amount of traffic on an average day, and when and where they will make their getaway. This is an exciting movie that I picked up because Steve McQueen was in it, but I enjoyed the whole movie, not just McQueen's performance(only a year after his first starring role in The Blob). This is a good example of film noir also with its dark mood, interesting camera angles/shots, and not so perfect characters. Very entertaining movie as the tension rises all the way until the exciting climactic bank robbery.
Steve McQueen, in his second starring role, is excellent as getaway driver, George Fowler, a naive college student who finds himself wrapped up in the world of crime. Even here in only his second major role, McQueen has already perfected the quiet, loner type. Crahan Denton plays John Egan, the emotionally fragile leader of the bunch who wants this to be his last job. David Clarke plays Gino, the ex-con who refuses to go back to prison. James Dukas stars as Willie, the member of the bunch who takes pleasure in antagonizing the rest of the gang. Molly McCarthy plays Ann, a girl George used to date who gets unwillingly involved with the heist. The DVD contains a small biography about McQueen and the standard presentation of the movie which doesn't look too bad. For a surprisingly good heist movie with an excellent performance from a young Steve McQueen, check out The Great St. Louis Bank Robbery!
As usual, the Roan release is the one to have!.......2004-04-11
Roan has done a commendable job in restoring this movie, given that the first and last reels of 35mm fine grain were lost, and negatives had to be used for those reels. The picture, while technically widescreen, is a 1.66:1 ratio, so in viewing it on a 16x9 television, the viewer is either left with a slightly trimmed (top and bottom) full frame, or it can be viewed using the "zoom" function, sacrificing small amounts of information at the top and bottom. This is unfortunate, as viewing the movie in the latter manner, the picture appears somewhat soft. The picture is quite dark, until the last reel. However, grain and damage are minimal. Sound is probably the weak point of this release....however, I assume Roan did everything it could with the source materials that remained of the film. This is the only reason I leave them off the hook on this DVD.
If you're interested in seeing early Steve McQueen, this is a great place to start. I actually found him to be more similar in this movie to the persona he would become known for, than in his early role in "The Blob".
Recommended, but with hesitation.
Free Willy.......2004-03-26
Perhaps this film was a little corny. Maybe it has a sorta low budget look. I'll even admit that some of the character's, such as Ann, are not very convincing. But Dammit, it's funny! For instance, Willy. He's not a criminal, he's mentally handicapped. In 1960 this may have been Action, but 40 years later it's a Four Star Comedy in my eyes. Now go take a bath Willy!
