Marvel Comics' first family of superherodom, the Fantastic Four, hits the big screen in a light-hearted and funny adventure. It begins when down-on-his-luck genius Reed Richards (Ioan Gruffudd, Horatio Hornblower) has to enlist the financial and intellectual help from former schoolmate and rival Victor Von Doom (Julian McMahon, Nip/Tuck) in order to pursue outer-space research into human DNA. Also on the trip are Reed's best friend, Ben Grimm (Michael Chiklis, The Shield); his former lover, Sue Storm (Jessica Alba, Dark Angel, Sin City), who's now Doom's employee and love interest; and her hotshot-pilot brother, Johnny Storm (Chris Evans, Cellular). Things don't go as planned, of course, and the quartet becomes blessed--or is it cursed?--with superhuman powers: flexibility, brute strength, invisibility and projecting force fields, and bursting into flame. Meanwhile, Doom himself is undergoing a transformation.
Among the many entries in the comic-book-movie frenzy, Fantastic Four is refreshing because it doesn't take itself too seriously. Characterization isn't too deep, and the action is a bit sparse until the final reel (like most "first" superhero movies, it has to go through the "how did we get these powers and what we will do with them" churn). But it's a good-looking cast, and original comic-book cocreator Stan Lee makes his most significant Marvel-movie cameo yet, in a speaking role as the FF's steadfast postal carrier, Willie Lumpkin. Newcomers to superhero movies might find the idea of a family with flexibility, strength, invisibility, and force fields a retread of The Incredibles, but Pixar's animated film was very much a tribute to the FF and other heroes of the last 40 years. The irony is that while Fantastic Four is an enjoyable B-grade movie, it's the tribute, The Incredibles, that turned out to be a film for the ages. --David Horiuchi! I>

4 earns a 3.......2007-07-07
The bar for comic book movies has been set pretty high with the success and quality of films such as the Batman and Spiderman series; not to mention Superman. The greaat thing about this movie is that the Fantastic Four gets the star treatment here rather than some B movie that does not do the comic series justice. Admittedly, I was only a casual F4 fna as a kid. This movie was very entertaining and is never dull. The actors are compelling and the story is decent. There are some fun scenes with nifty special effects. A couple of cool scenes include a time where the team comes together in a fight with Doctor Doom and they all use their powers collectively, and a scene where the Thing and Doctor Doom fight at the bottom of a pool. Enjoy this movie for what it is... a solid three star fun flick that looks great on DVD.
Not Bad But Hardly A Replacement For The Original Release.......2007-06-28
Although this new editiion of the Fantastic Four movie may seem like nothing but a ploy for ripping off some of your hard-earned money, I have to admit that the producers have inserted alot of important key scenes back into a movie that it has successfully elevated the movie above it's original popcorn-movie status.
However, I was generally quite dissatisfied with this DVD release because, it seems as if the editors were rushed to put this edition out into the market in time for the release of the 2nd Fantastic 4 movie.
For one thing, the video quality of the extended cut is actually somewhat inferior to the original, in general, if you're using a 40" and above HD (or full HD) screen, you will notice that the overal picture seem a little duller and blurrer than the original release. There is also a brief scene of Reed and Sue in the Baxter Building where the film appears to be extremely noisy; I suspect the editors just didn't have the time to complete that scene to meet the dvd release deadline.
Also, the soundtrack for some of the reinserted scenes were almost non-existent, and a few of the original sound effects and certain original scores written specifically for a few of the key scenes have been replaced.
I would recommend anyone who is a hard-core fan of this movie or those who doesn't own a copy of the original release to go ahead and grab this edition of the movie, but if you already own a copy of the original release(standard or deluxe two-disc release) of this movie, you might want to consider renting it first before considering purchasing.
one of the 4 greatest super hero movies.......2007-06-26
having seen the original theatrical release and found it fantastic i must say this about the extended dvd version. this ranks in my opinion along with SUPERMAN THE MOVIE ( 1978),SPIDERMAN 3 and SUPERMAN RETURNS as the greatest superhero movie's . in this day of utter crap out there in the movie world what these movie's contain is a lot of heart and are really well made. so absolute cheers to these fine movies they all have something special in them. nuff'said
Some good scenes but I can't recommend it.......2007-06-22
Long story short, I liked Fantastic Four. It had it's faults, mainly it's portrayal of Dr. Doom, but it was fun. I was disappointed in the extended cut though. Most of the added scenes were OK. More character development, more story, a reference to the Puppet Master and that Herbie robot, but in the end, it felt as though they just Frankensteined this thing together from leftover parts. The scenes with Reed and Sue in the planetarium then again on the bridge being the exact same scene was the worst offender. And the part where Alicia gives Thing a spongebath just felt wrong on so many levels. There were a couple of interesting documentaries and the original version is thoughtfully included on this disc so for those who haven't bought it yet. All in all, worth watching just to see what could've been but it's no improvement over the original.
Almost Better Than Breathing!.......2007-06-21
This movie is like a rocketship that you get on, and then you ride into space and the turbulence doesn't even effect you at all, and it's a very smooth landing either on whatever planet the rocketship lands or on its eventual re-entry into the Earth's atmosphere. Fantastic Four rules the school!
If you've ever seen other comic book movies like Batman or Spiderman or Darkman or Superman or X-Man, you know that they are usually not very good. But the Fantastic Four are absolutely excellent and every superhero movie should take notes on how great this movie really is.
Fantastic Four is about four friends who have wonderful magical powers. One guy is super-limber, and another guy can turn into fire, and another guy is really really strong, and there is a girl who can become invisible if she wants to. Never before and never again have so many different and exciting superpowers been on display, and you will jump out of your chair cheering every time they get to defeat bad guys (which is often). You may not even want to sit down because you'll be out of your chair that much. However, if you want to get good exercise, then you will sit down from time to time, because then it will be very good for your quads.
The special effects are thrilling, the actors are dynamic, and the story is just like a rocketship.
I hope you stop reading this review right now and go rent this movie immediately. And if you are still reading this sentence, why don't you go re-read the last sentence and ask yourself why you're so disobedient?
Be careful: the stretchy man and the fire man may come and get you!!! Just kidding.
Do yourself and your community a favor and buy many copies of this movie.

This epic Lucasfilm fantasy serves up enough magical adventure to satisfy fans of the genre, though it treads familiar territory. With abundant parallels to Star Wars, the story (by George Lucas) follows the exploits of the little farmer Willow (Warwick Davis), an aspiring sorcerer appointed to deliver an infant princess from the evil queen (Jean Marsh) to whom the child is a crucial threat. Val Kilmer plays the warrior who joins Willow's campaign with the evil queen's daughter (Joanne Whalley, who later married Kilmer). Impressive production values, stunning locations (in England, Wales, and New Zealand) and dazzling special effects energize the routine fantasy plot, which alternates between rousing action and cute sentiment while failing to engage the viewer's emotions. A parental warning is appropriate: director Ron Howard has a light touch aimed at younger viewers, but doesn't shy away from grisly swordplay and at least one monster (a wicked two-headed dragon) that could induce nightmares. --Jeff Shannon
Description
From legendary filmmakers George Lucas and Ron Howard comes one of the most beloved fantasy tales of all time. This groundbreaking film features stunning special effects, dazzling action and a classic battle between good and evil.
When young Willow Ufgood (Warwick Davis) finds an abandoned baby, he is suddenly thrust unto an adventure filled with magic and danger. According to an ancient prophecy, the sacred child is destined to end the reign of the evil sorceress Queen Bavmorda (Jean Marsh). Now, the only a single swordsman (Val Kilmer) at his side, Willow must overcome the forces of darkness that threaten to destroy anyone who stands in the Queen's way!

A Timeless Classic!.......2007-07-07
If you grew up in the 80s and didn't see this movie, then where the heck were you?? This is a must see movie and falls into the category of a timeless, well loved classic that never expires. We never tire from watching "Willow". Infact, we named one of our daughters "Alora" after Ellora Dannon. "Willow" is a true family film, filled with adventure, action, humor, romance and magic! It's got everything in it and will bring out the child in everyone. And if you're an 80s Junkie like me (or not), it will probably already be in your DVD library (or pretty soon may well be) that you can pull out again and again to enjoy. You won't regret investing in this wonderful spell of entertainment.
Fantasy - Supreme.......2007-07-06
This movie was well done, a very good and rich fantasy story and something for the whole family. A fairy tale colorful told.
(Original review January 1, 2002)
Colorful, whimsical adventure.......2007-07-04
It doesn't get any better than this. The imagery in this film is so wonderful that it runs through your mind for hours after watching it. The colors are so bold, the scenes are beautiful, and if you ask me, the story is very enjoyable. Plus, if there are fairies, it always gets five stars.
FUN FANTASY ADVENTURE.......2007-06-27
Willow is one of my favorite movies. Willow loves his family, friends and community. He tries hard to please all of them! Val Kilmer did a great job in this movie. His character is a rough, tough guy who tries to hide his good heart. There's lots to like in this movie---comedy, adventure, battles, fantasy, even monsters! It's the kind of movie my husband and I love to watch --more than once.
Always loved it!.......2007-05-17
I loved this movie when I was young! I am still YOUNG BTW :P Anyway, great movie, Val Kilmer is a hottie in this movie! Love watching it, and always a joy to pop it in the DVD player.
For the price, I had to add it to my collection! Awesome movie!

Good for a Comic Movie.......2007-07-07
Fantastic Four was a fun movie. I wasn't really familiar with the stories of anything like that except for the Wii game Marvel Superheroes. The movie has fun story and shows that being true to yourself is always the best policy. The characters, as far as I can tell, are true to the comics and are acted pretty well for a comic book movie. The special effects are pretty good in the movie. The look believable and flow with the film.
I would recommend this movie if you have enjoyed X-Men, Spider-Man, or other comic inspired films.
FAIR TO MIDDLING FOR UNDISCERNING ADULTS.......2007-07-04
While I enjoyed it as simple entertainment and a closer link up to the comic that I never got around to really reading - I don't recommend it for youngsters.
I enjoyed the actors interpertation of the characters there was just a little too much eye candy for the [men?]
Not up to par with "Ghost Rider" or "X-Men" - still am glad that I bought it for the comic characters collection of movies.
Am waiting now for the "Silver Surfer" to blast through.
Did thoroughly enjoy the features -- I like explainations of characters and story.
Poor old "Doom" was a mess. Chiklis really brought his character to life.
Boy, to carry 60 pounds of costume must have helped put him in good condition.
Definitely recommend for most adults.
I just plain LOVE this movie!.......2007-06-30
I didn't grow up on comic books or stories... but I am really getting into the superhero movies that keep coming out. I really enjoy this movie because of the variety of characters. Of course, the addition of great actors is a bonus - especially the super-sexy Julian McMahon.
Keep in mind, when you watch sci-fi, you have to suspend your disbelief and just go with the flow. Those who want to sit and question the science or analyze the movie aren't going to enjoy it. Enjoy it for the action, the people, the actors, and the basic storyline. Grab a bowl of popcorn and enjoy the ride!
A good addition to your DVD collection!
Very good movie.......2007-06-11
I was pleasantly surprised by this movie. I got it used through [...]. Some comic turned movies, or cartoon turned movies are not that great. This is well worth the money. Plus, it has Jessica Alba in it!

Yoga isn't just for people who are already supple--it's a way to become more flexible. Yoga for Inflexible People presents modifications and props to make traditional poses accessible to people who could not otherwise perform them comfortably or correctly. You get more than 35 workouts and about four hours of instruction and practice in all. Choose a general workout, focus on an area of the body (shoulders, legs, hips, and back), or select a peaceful or energizing workout. Within each category, you have a choice of several different 15- to 75-minute series (some seated), much more variety than most videos offer. Some of the poses are beginning level; others are not. Leader Judi Rice demonstrates well, instructing by voice-over, though her expressionless face lacks warmth and personality. You'll need a yoga mat, blocks (or large books), a long strap or belt, a chair, and blankets. --Joan Price
Product Description

The yoga postures developed 5,000 years ago were not created for people who are already flexible, but rather to help inflexible people become more flexible. A wide range of poses are taught and modified to help both beginning and intermediate students experience the benefits of yoga. The modifications includes suggestions for the use of props, which can be either actual yoga props or items you have around the home, such as a belt or books, to assist you when you feel you need additional assistance. Customized workouts allow you to progress at your own pace and the DVD contains dozens of routines which designed to carefully guide you along your journey into yoga.

Just what I was looking For.......2007-06-28
Maybe I've been living in a cave, but this DVD is really unique. you can choose from many different yoga workouts depending on your capabilities and mood. I have owned this DVD for months and haven't done the same work-out twice. The instruction is very good - easy to follow. By doing Yoga once a week for the last few months, I have really relaxed. There is difference in my disposition towards my family and my outlook on life.
If your a beginner or intermediate, this is the Yoga DVD to buy!!!
Very good tape for 56 year old........2007-06-27
this tape has very good for deep stretching and even breaks them into specific areas that may be a concern.
Great for beginners.......2007-06-12
This is my first experience doing any workout at home, and my first yoga after taking only one class years ago. I have not yet found anything that I can't do, which is encouraging. It is a nice pace with good instruction. The one drawback is the expectation to have a chair that you can slide around and other materials staged (folded blanket, belt, blocks). I just pause DVD if I need to gather my things and I am able to use a kitchen chair on the carpet and just forget the sliding part. I have used it a few times a week for a month and already see improvement. There are so many choices of workouts, I do a different one each time and look forward to new things. This is a great start for new yogis.
Great DVD.......2007-05-17
This is a great DVD. I've tried other Yoga dvds but like this one the best.
Caution, be careful!.......2007-05-13
Product ws in excellent shape. Be careful if you have never done yoga, this was for my husband, he hurt himsel and relized yoga is not for him, he will stick to other workouts that have been helpful. The most important thing is to stay active.

2001: A Space Odyssey took the world on a mind-bending trip to outer space, but Fantastic Voyage is the original psychedelic inner-space adventure. When a brilliant scientist falls into a coma with an inoperable blood clot in the brain, a surgical team embarks on a top-secret journey to the center of the mind in a high-tech military submarine shrunk to microbial dimensions. Stephen Boyd stars as a colorless commander sent to keep an eye on things (though his eyes stay mostly on shapely medical assistant Raquel Welch), while Donald Pleasance is suitably twitchy as the claustrophobic medical consultant. The science is shaky at best, but the imaginative spectacle is marvelous: scuba-diving surgeons battle white blood cells, tap the lungs to replenish the oxygen supply, and shoot the aorta like daredevil surfers. The film took home a well-deserved Oscar for Best Visual Effects. Director Richard Fleischer, who turned Disney's 1954 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea into one of the most riveting submarine adventures of all time, creates a picture so taut with cold-war tensions and cloak-and-dagger secrecy that niggling scientific contradictions (such as, how do miniaturized humans breathe full-sized air molecules?) seem moot. --Sean Axmaker
Description
The adventure of a lifetime occurs not in the outer reaches of space, but inside the human body. An elite team of medical and scientific specialists race to save a top government scientist who is suffering from a blood clot on the brain. Their mission: be reduced along with their submarine-like craft to microscopic size, enter the bloodstream of the ailing scientist, and journey to the brain to perform an emergency procedure. With only sixty minutes to complete their mission, the scientist find themselves fighting off an attack by white corpuscles, caught in a tornado-like storm in the lungs, and struggling to survive sabotage from one of their own.
Customer Reviews:
The Special Edition IS Anamorphic!!.......2007-06-12
There was question about whether the updated Special Edition release of "Fantastic Voyage" would be remastered in anamorphic widescreen, since it wasn't stated anywhere in the release information, or, actually, on the DVD itself. On the grid on the back of the DVD case (which lists different soundtracks, subtitles, etc.), it only states "Widescreen 2.35:1"...which, as any owner of a widescreen television knows, is deceiving, since that doesn't necessarily mean it will automatically adjust to your television.
No worries with "Fantastic Voyage"! The print looks fabulous, and it brings back all those inner-space sci-fi memories! If you're a fan, you'll undoubtedly pick this up. If you've never seen it...man, what a ride. I wish I could go back and experience it for the first time again!
Terrific reissue from Fox of sci-fi Cold War gem.......2007-06-12
Fans of 60's science fiction will appreciation the deluxe terrific reissue of "Fantastic Voyage" put out by Fox. While very much a product of the mid-60's, "Fantastic Voyage" holds up surprisingly well in just about every area. I doubt that fans need a recap of the plot but I have one at the end of this review if you're interested.
First up we get a brand new marvelous looking transfer for the film. It isn't perfect but it couldn't be because of the source material. Some shots appear soft and a bit blurry due to the process photography/visual effects added to shots but that's unavoidable and fairly typical of films from this time before digital video. Colors are bold and as bright as I remember them.
Unlike the previous release we get some really good extras as well. The featurette on visual effects has Richard Edlund ("Close Encounters", "Blade Runner") discussing the difficulty of shooting a visual effects film like "Fantastic Voyage" in 1965 (it was releasedin 1966). Like "Forbidden Planet", "Fantastic Voyage" pushed the barrier of visual effects for its times something NOT appreciated by a lot of viewers. Edlund points out that building the Proetus both in full size and miniature allowed director Richard Flesicher opportunities that most directors wouldn't have in being flexible in his shooting. Also, the Proetus full scale exterior had an interior set mimicing the set for the inside of the ship which allowed them to shoot through the windows and not worry about having to do mattes as often creating a convincing environment.
We also get an isolated music score with a commentary track as well featuring Nick Redman, Jon Burlingame and Jeff Bond discussing Leonard Rosenman's marvelous music score. They are quiet about 40 minutes in when Rosenman's score kicks in but the first 40 minutes these music/film historians focus on everything from the casting, to bits of trivia about the shooting of the film. We also get storyboard to film comparison of the whirlpool scene as well as a deleted scene from the script with storyboard illustrations. The electronic press booklet includes the original press booklet. My only complaint is its a bit too small to read at times even on a big screen TV but otherwise looks quite good. We also get some of the movie-tie-in's including a mention of Isaac Asimov's novel adapted from the script (where he fixed some of the holes in the script and science gaffs). We get lobby cards, posters, radio and TV ads as well as the original theatrical trailer. The interactive portion of the gallery also allows us a 360 view of the 5 foot model of the Proetus as well as its smaller (just a couple of inches)version used for long shots and designed for visual effects mattes.
Fox has done a very nice job on this 40th Anniversary Edition (even if it is a year late)of this classic Science Fiction film. Sure, the dialogue is occasionally awkward but it's a film very much of its time and holds up remarkably well with strong performances by Stephen Boyd, Donald Pleasance (in one of his first roles as a villain), Arthur Kennedy, Raquel Welch and others.
***
Plot: Set during the Cold War, Grant (Stephen Boyd) is called in to escort Jan Benes (Jean Del Val) a man with information vital to the safety and security of the United States. When their motorcade is attacked, Benes is injured and goes into a coma. Grant is again recruited this time to accompany a team of a surgeon (Arthur Kennedy), government doctor (Donald Pleasance), nurse (Raquel Welch) and Navy pilot (William Redfield) on a journey of tiny proportions. They are going to be miniaturized be injected into Benes and travel in a state-of-the-art sub called the Proteus to destroy the blood clot threatening Benes life. Complications arise, however, when it appears they may have a saboteur in their midst.
Another Gem Of Sci-Fi - And Mature To Boot!.......2007-06-08
Rare was the occasion that science fiction was treated like anything more than a "kids movie" in days of yore. Sure, there were all-age features of the golden age of Hollywood, like say "Forbidden Planet" and "War Of The Worlds," but even the best of these had a whiff of...unseriousness. This film, "Fantastic Voyage" was the first "old" sci-fi film I saw that actually made no bones about the subject matter being mature - even though the premise was a tad beyond credibility.
The special effects were truly special, for starters. The team who wordked on it spent a lot of time and money to make the interior of the body look realistic. This added to the whole feeling of alienation while our heroes - including a very sexy Raquel Welch - were swinging about in the body of our tragic victim. And the wirework that went into giving the viewer a feel of "swimming" were fantastic (sorry), an early example of the miracle of wirework in the U.S.
The actors as well give a feeling of believability by the way they never give a wink-and-a-nod performance. They handled it much like any other acting job despite being told (you're really tiny and you're stuck inside someone's body." Kinda hard to keep a straight face with that, to be sure, but they do so, and that adds mileage to what could've been a silly premise.
I enjoy what's being done now special-effect wise, but there's something to be said for watching a great example of how it USED to be done. The hard way. Making reality conform to what you want it instead of whipping it up on a computer. Younger people (whose ideas of special effects start with, oh, say, "The Matrix") should take note of this, and other, older examples of Hollywood wizardry. It may be cool to be a sci-fi film fan now, but even back in the day, properly done sci-fi rocked!
This film is... well...Fantastic!.......2007-06-06
Please, please, please never remake this film. I love it just the way it is. It is stylish, well directed, beautifully photographed, and the special effects are great within the context of the film itself. I wish I could have seen this in the theater. This film has a distinct style all it's own. It's obvious watching it now how much has been directly or indirectly influenced by the look and feel of the film. Even Alien, with it's limited crew working on a ship with one lone double agent owes something to Fantastic Voyage.
This film is required viewing for any sci-fi fan.

A movie that only true horror buffs could love, Army of Darkness is officially part 3 in the wild and wacky Evil Dead trilogy masterminded by the perversely inventive director Sam Raimi, who would later serve as executive producer of the popular syndicated TV series Hercules: The Legendary Journeys. Raimi's favorite actor, Bruce Campbell, returns as Ash (hero of the first two Evil Dead flicks), a hardware-store clerk who is magically transported--along with his beat-up Oldsmobile and a chainsaw attachment for his severed left forearm--to the brutal battlefields of the 14th century. He quickly assumes power (who else in the Middle Ages packs a shotgun and a chainsaw?), and unites his band of medieval knights against the dreaded Army of the Dead. Raimi gleefully subverts almost every horror-movie cliché as he serves up a nonstop parade of blood, gore, and vicious sword-bearing skeletons--an affectionate homage to animator Ray Harryhausen's classic Jason and the Argonauts. The frantic action is fun while it lasts, but even at 80 minutes Army of Darkness nearly wears out its welcome. You know that Raimi can maintain the mayhem for only so long before it grows tiresome, and fortunately this madcap movie quits while it's ahead. --Jeff Shannon
Customer Reviews:
Great Movie.......2007-07-04
This movie is awesome! I've been wanting to get it for a long time and don't regreat a cent of it.
Army of Darkness.......2007-05-18
This movie was great, very entertaining and funny. If you love Night of the Living Dead, this is even better.
Without Embeth Davidtz, this movie is garbage.......2007-04-12
The only thing reedeemable about this movie is the beautiful Embeth Davidtz, without her, the movie is pathetic. Honestly, this movie is one of the worst I ever witnessed. "The Mummy" doesn't even equal its patheticness, and that is saying something!!
WORST MOVIE EVER!.......2007-03-29
Apparently for some reason, everyone loves this movie. They say watch it with fun friends. I did. It was so bad. There is no plot, it goes from one thing to another with no explanation. Unless you don't know a good movie from a bad one, don't get this. The "comedy" in it is so repeatative. He fought the mini version for it seemed like 10 minutes and he fought the deadites in the well for another half hour. The phrase it's so bad it's good don't even apply. It passed that point on how bad it is. The action is horrible, and you shouldn't waste your money or your time on the "greatness" this movie supposedly has. Disgrace to movies and horrible spin off of an H.P. Lovecraft theme.
Great movie - bad transfer.......2007-02-28
I got this one mainly for the commentary track. The quality of the print was hit and miss. Yes, I know they added 15 minutes of footage from various sources, and that would account for some of the inconsistancy of the quality of the print, but there were other parts that are in the standard 82 min. version that just looked awful here. The Universal release isn't the long version, and there are no extras, but IMO the print was better. I understand the Boomstick edition looks even better, though I haven't seen it. Anchor Bay seems to have a history of using bad prints for their DVD releases, and this one would seem to fall into that category. I would recommend this for extreme fans only - just for the commentary, which is pretty good.

Disney's take on this historical confrontation between European settlers and Native Americans follows the paths of two future lovers. One is British adventurer John Smith, who travels the Atlantic with the Virginia Company to establish Jamestown. On the shore is Pocahontas, a typical Disney heroine: bright, beautiful, mischievous, and motherless. The two meet in the untamed wilds of America (the first meeting is quite divine), fall in love, and try to ward off the warring factions. It's Disney's version of a Native American West Side Story. Two Disney trademarks do not quite muster up: the villain isn't hissable and the score's only high point is the Oscar-winning "Colors of the Wind." Calling it "historical" is a stretch, but Disney created a very natural look at the two cultures. The Native American characters are handled especially well, and kids should be intrigued by their world; the movie is a far different lesson from the one their parents and grandparents learned. Disney has discovered a few things, though: you don't have to kill to solve your problems, and you can end the film without a happily-ever-after, illustrated by a touching final visual. (Ages 5 and older) --Doug Thomas

Customer Reviews:
Great dvd.......2007-03-11
My favorite Disney movie of ALL time and this is a wonderful DVD! It has extras on a second dvd and the scene of Pocahontas and John Smtih singing together was added back in! GREAT DVD!!
Pochahontas.......2007-03-07
great storyline - a bit of history in animation . teach the children while watching a great film. The music is very well done and a great film to watch.
Pocahontas purchased from Amazon.......2007-02-26
I was under the impression that the dvd would be enclosed in a cardboard cover like it was picture, because there was no indication that it wouldn't be. I was disappointed at this, but other than that I have no complaints, it was a rather speedy delivery and the product worked wonderfully.
Pass On the "Gold Collection" and get the "10th Anniversary".......2007-01-27
The Gold Collection disc is too flawed to seriously consider at this point with the "10th Anniversary{ two-disc set now out.
Gold Collection:
1. Worst DVD tranfer of a Disney film in recent memory
2. No "If I Never Knew You". Not even the rough cut.
3. Extras: a Trailer and some music videos. Not much going on here.
4. Not anamorphic
10th Anniversary:
1. Anamorphic 16:9
2. Great new transfer
3. "If I Never Knew You" in the movie and completely animated. Major addition to the last half of the movie.
4. Both versions of the film, the 1995 cut and the 2003 "Director's Cut".
5. Loads of extras including a documentary, updated audio commentary track, sections for each major character with art, concept drawings, deleted scenes, scenes that never made it past the concept stage......you get the idea.
Special Edition Nothing.......2007-01-08
Of course, Pocahontas is a beautiful film. It's a great story, pretty good animation, and some of the best Alan Menken songs. But the special Extras DVD is a joke. This DVD set is worth it just because of the added If I Never Knew You sequences, but was passed over for the special treatment other classic films got.

Rambo meets Alien in this terrific science-fiction thriller from 1987, directed by John McTiernan just a year before Die Hard made him Hollywood's most sought-after director of action-packed blockbusters. Arnold Schwarzenegger leads an elite squad of U.S. Army commandos to a remote region of South American jungle, where they've been assigned to search for South American officials who've been kidnapped by terrorists. Instead they find a bunch of skinned corpses hanging from the trees and realize that they're now facing a mysterious and much deadlier threat. As the squad is picked off one by one, Arnold finds himself pitted against a hideous alien creature that's heavily armed and wearing a spacesuit enabling the creature to render itself invisible. The title says it all in describing the relentless, escalating action that follows, maintained by McTiernan with an abundance of visual flair. The film's special effects are still impressive, and stunning locations in the Mexican jungles create a combined atmosphere of verdant beauty and imminent danger. The plot doesn't hold up to much scrutiny, but the movie's so exciting and tightly paced that its weaknesses seem irrelevant. --Jeff Shannon

RRRROOOOAAGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH!.......2007-06-27
As a young boy my father approached me and said hey I rented a cool movie want to watch it...I must have been nine or ten at the time...and I said "what is it?" He said "Predator"...the excitement that I was experiencing wanted to burst from my very being; it was almost uncontrollable...I couldn't believe it...My mom was out of town and my dad was going to let me watch the holly grail of violence, action and utter cinematic little kid poison. I was not allowed to watch bad movies, that is of course unless mom was out of the house...then dad would buy us junk food and "R" rated movies...oh...I will never forget Jessie The Body Ventura's Gatling gun...that was the coolest thing ever...and the way the Predator hunted down and killed basically everyone was pure magic.
Aside from my own personal enjoyment and ranting...this is a good movie...Predator is in the top ten of best action movies of all time...There are no complaints here all good and all bad A if you know what I mean.
Let the Hunt Begin..........2007-06-12
After achieving great critical and commercial success with the 1979 film "Alien" and its follow-up "Aliens" 7 years later, 20th Century Fox was no doubt searching for another monster franchise that they could cash in on. Well, the search proved not to be in vain as director John McTiernan provided the perfect solution with his 1987 Arnold Schwarzenegger action/monster film "Predator".
"Predator" tells the story of a squad of commandos led by a man named Dutch (Arnold Schwarzenegger) who are sent into a Central American jungle to rescue South American officials who have been kidnapped by guerillas. As their search goes on, the commandos discover that the guerillas may not be their greatest concern in this jungle, as they find themselves being hunted by an apparently invisible being. As the team of commandos gets picked off one by one, Dutch eventually finds himself face-to-face with the very being responsible, a grotesque alien hunter, heavily armed with advanced war-fighting technology that is beyond anything this world has ever seen before.
With the great success of "Predator", director John McTiernan proved himself the right man to bring Fox's newest monster franchise to life. It is somewhat surprising that 20th Century Fox entrusted their hopes of a new franchise with McTiernan, since he had yet to truly prove himself in Hollywood (it was 1 year later when McTiernan was propelled into superstardom with his Bruce Willis actioner "Die Hard"), but even without having much experience under his belt he succeeded with flying colors.
The story for the film is essentially summed up by the film's title "Predator", with that one word, and the fact that Arnold was the main star, most people knew that there's bound to be plenty of action to go around. Even with all of the action in this movie, there is still plenty of story, some critics felt the plot was rather thin and that all the action covered that problem; personally I didn't feel the plot of the story was weak in any way. I thought that the story, though not difficult to follow or extremely complicated by any means, was still entertaining and provided enough character development and substance to keep the movie from feeling like it was simply one fight after another with no real purpose. Obviously the film's story must have had enough substance to form a groundwork mythology for these alien creatures that was spawned off into a sequel, and also into numerous books and comic books that have further expanded upon these Predators.
The acting was good for an action film, not Oscar worthy, but these types of movies never are. Arnold's mastery of the English language had improved from his performance in 1984's "The Terminator", at least you can understand him better, but it's by no means perfect. The cast does well with their respective characters, some of the performances were a little over the top in places, most were clichéd, but so were their characters, and what else would you expect in an action film.
One of the biggest praises that can be given to this movie is for the special effects work; which still hold up well to this day. The use of infrared for the Predator's vision was a neat touch and somewhat surprising for the audience to actually be given the monster's view of the world. Even the invisibility effect, though primitive by today's standards, was very well done when you consider that it was an effect that hadn't really been done in that way before in cinema. The costume department did what was possibly the best job in special effects for the movie with their work on the Predator costume. The costume was so realistic, it was clear that the creative team on this movie had payed close attention to "Alien" and "Aliens" in terms of bringing monsters to life. Had the creative teams behind this movie not rose to the challenge set by the aforementioned movies, I don't believe the film would have been as successful with audiences.
With all that being said, "Predator" is definitely a classic among action movies and monster movies for that matter (though this film is more action oriented), and is a film that fans of the `Alien' franchise should definitely watch.
"Predator" is rated R for violence and language.
A movie for men!.......2007-04-29
"Predator" stars Arnold Schwarzenegger as a commando sent into a South American country on a covert mission. Soon he and his group of men's men super soldiers (including Jesse Ventura, Carl Weathers, Bill Duke, and Sonny Landham) are being hunted for sport by a huge, strong, and cunning alien from another planet. This incredible action/sci-fi thriller is John McTiernan's great first very success in the action genre (other hit credits including "Die Hard" and "The Hunt for Red October"), and it while it's a Schwarzenegger movie and the outcome is never in any doubt, it still manages to give Arnold a run for his money. The film was shot on location and it looks beautiful, especially when the Predator sort of becomes invisible and not quiet blends in with the jungle. The special effects were pretty ground breaking for the time (1987), with the thermal heat image vision being the crown jewel, the thing most people remember the film for. The cast is also pretty good, though it's obvious the actors were cast for their image rather than any real acting ability; indeed there is so much testosterone in "Predator" that it practically oozes out of the TV while you're watching it. It is a guy's movie, an Arnold Schwarzenegger film with other body builders and wrestlers, it's gruesome and gory with gratuitous violence; but it is a slick fast paced thriller that breezes. It's good for what it is, and a great sci-fi version of "The World's Most Dangerous Game".
Not just another stupid action movie.......2007-04-17
This movie is a classic. A masterpiece. Perfectly crafted, paced and insanely tense. There's not a wasted moment in the film. A sci-fi thriller of the highest caliber. It will last. It has and will age very well. Movie critics of the future will put this on their lists of best movies of all time. Movie makers of today trying to craft action movies should watch this film and learn. Good work Arnold.

Having proven itself as a favorite film of children around the world, Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory is every bit as entertaining now as it was when originally released in 1971. There's a timeless appeal to Roald Dahl's classic children's novel, which was playfully preserved in this charming musical, from the colorful carnival-like splendor of its production design to the infectious melody of the "Oompah-Loompah" songs that punctuate the story. Who can forget those diminutive Oompah-Loompah workers who recite rhyming parental warnings ("Oompah-Loompah, doopity do...") whenever some mischievous child has disobeyed Willy Wonka's orders to remain orderly? Oh, but we're getting ahead of ourselves ... it's really the story of the impoverished Charlie Bucket, who, along with four other kids and their parental guests, wins a coveted golden ticket to enter the fantastic realm of Wonka's mysterious confectionery. After the other kids have proven themselves to be irresponsible brats, it's Charlie who impresses Wonka and wins a reward beyond his wildest dreams. But before that, the tour of Wonka's factory provides a dazzling parade of delights, and with Gene Wilder giving a brilliant performance as the eccentric candyman, Wonka gains an edge of menace and madness that nicely counterbalances the movie's sentimental sweetness. It's that willingness to risk a darker tone--to show that even a wonderland like Wonka's can be a weird and dangerous place if you're a bad kid--that makes this an enduring family classic. --Jeff Shannon
Description
A poor little boy wins a ticket to visit the inside of a mysterious and magical chocolate factory. When he experiences the wonders inside the factory, the boy discovers that the entire visit is a test of his character.
Customer Reviews:
Wilder makes this movie worth it........2007-06-27
Don't let the star rating fool you. Despite this movie having an absurd plot, largely unlikable characters, particularly Charlie's family, and repetitive singing from the loompas, this is a fantastic movie. But wilder and the boy who plays charlie are the ones who really makes this movie a classic. ill leave the explanation of whats in this movie to the editors and other reviewers.
the reason for the 1 star deduction is because of the transfer quality. some scenes are quite bad. such as the sketchiness of when charlie runs home after finding the golden ticket. since its been ages since i've last seen this movie i have no idea if anything was removed.
Overall, this is a good buy. They're are interviews with cast and directors included on this too which makes even more valuable.
This is a great movie that your entire family will surely enjoy time and time again........2007-06-20
Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory is an awesome movie. I used to watch this over and over again as a child. My favorite character is Veruca Salt (Julie Dawn Cole) because she was so mean and spoiled. I loved how Veruca always seemed to get her way, it was so funny. This is a great movie that your entire family will surely enjoy time and time again.
One of my favorite movies of all time!.......2007-06-05
I don't know what it is, but when you see the opening scene of Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, you will instantly be hooked.
So what's to like about this movie? Pretty much everything! If you're a kid, you'll love the candy scenes (yum!) and the weird and funny "tour" scenes. If you're an adult, you'll appreciate the "moral of the story" and the little inside jokes here and there.
And what's NOT to like about this movie? Not much. I find myself fast forwarding through the "Cheer up Charlie" song simply because it seems to last forever but that's not enough reason to lower my rating. Also, if you're a parent and are picky about what your kids watch, the end of the movie (where the poor kid gets everything he wants) may or may not be a not so good lesson to teach to your kids.
My verdict: 5/5 stars. I can't see why anyone would NOT like this movie. I can watch it three times a week and still be enthralled each time. This is a must have movie in every household's movie collection!
Excellent Movie!.......2007-05-09
This is a movie for the generations. My two year old niece is as fascinated as I was when I first saw the movie. She and I sing along everytime we watch the movie together. I love this movie for its strong moral content, as well as the world of fantasy it evokes. No big budget movie today can touch it. Get it for a child, and get one for yourself.
Best Movie Ever!.......2007-04-21
I have loved this movie ever since I can remember watching movies. I was just so fascinated with everything in it. I watch it all the time. If you've never watched it, make sure you do. It will always be at the top of my list.

Purportedly one of Walt Disney's most personal pet projects, Darby O'Gill shows the effort and care put into it. Even now the special effects hold up shockingly well. Darby O'Gill is an estate caretaker, but in his advanced years he's more fond of telling tall tales in the local pub about the wee folk than keeping the grounds. A new man (a very youthful Sean Connery) is sent in to take his place, and O'Gill doesn't know what will become of himself
