I really liked learning about how to catch lobsters. It looks like Lobsterman Chris works very hard, but he seems to also love what he does. My favorite pictures were the blue lobster, and watching the lobster crawl into the trap.

Educational and Entertaining.......2006-09-29

My nephews (2 and 4) absolutely love this video. The 4 year old knew all about the parts of the lobster and the trap after watching this video twice. He pretends to be a lobsterman all the time now. I highly recommend this video, especially if you live near or travel to areas with a lobster industry!

A wonderful children's video.......2005-06-23

As a lobsterman myself, I have really enjoyed showing this video to friends and relatives who only partially know what I do day to day. They've always asked me questions about this and that, and with this video, they get to see the whole deal! I live in Nova Scotia, and the video has caused quite a buzz around the little town I live in! My wife, who is a teacher, plans to introduce "Let's Go Lobstering!" into her school curriculum for the next school year.
It is truly an honest, complete look inside my world. This is a video definately worth picking up!

I wandered into my local bookstore here on Cape Cod looking for a nice children's gift and was attracted to this cute-looking video about lobstering when somebody walked by and gestured to me with two thumbs up.
That said, I picked up two copies(one for myself) and now, after watching it twice, I couldn't agree more. I have taught from pre-school through grade seven and I must say it has been some time since I have seen a video I would so strongly recommend. To it's credit, "Let's Go Lobstering!" is a VERY thorough delivery of just what a lobsterman does every day, and it is quite easy to follow, regardless of age, thanks to a nice blend of friendly narratives, compelling footage and easy-going music. I particularly liked the authentic Maine accent narrator.
This should be a standard for every school and every household.

A fun look at Maine's cherished industry.......2005-06-17

This video, in a word, is fantastic! I am a big fan of Maine lobster, so finding out how they are harvested was a logical choice for me. This video explained it all in a very straightforward, entertaining way---not over the top with special effects or too cute. Rather, a very wholesome, educational video that has been getting passed around the neighborhood through my kids! Aside from seeing the actual process of catching the lobsters, we loved all the related facts in the "Fun Facts" sections throughout the video. My personal favorite is the underwater footage of a blue lobster, which we are told are only one in a million! And the colorful, animated character/narrator Lobster Bob was a big hit.
This is a video done right!

Two claws up!.......2005-12-13

I checked out "Let's Go Lobstering!", and immediately began to wonder how a DVD like this one managed to escape my attention for so long. I am a fourth-grade science schoolteacher and I like to incorporate interesting video into my cirriculum, to make learning more enjoyable for my very curious students. I spend a great deal of time looking for DVDs that I believe would adequately fit into my classes, often times coming up empty-handed because alot of the videos I come across are terribly mediocre.
"Let's Go Lobstering!", however, represents everything I could hope for in a DVD. Very educational, excellent scripting, wonderful footage, and a somewhat unusual subject---there are not many DVDs, as far as I know, that cover the Maine lobsterman. Books maybe, but not videos. And this one is way above-average, worthy of a five-star rating all day long!
Thanks Barking Lobster Entertainment for enriching my students' learning experience.

Fantastic! Will there be a sequel?.......2005-12-12

I can't get over how great this DVD is! I found the 30-minute length ideal for my kids, who are ages five, seven, and nine, but more importantly, the information on how to catch lobsters was so interesting. We all loved seeing how traps and buoys work, how they set the traps, etc. The underwater shot of a blue lobster was very cool!

After watching "Let's Go Lobstering!", I am almost saddened by the fact that there are not more DVDs like this for children to enjoy. I review children's videos for a living, and have seen my share of overly produced, too slick, too clever, absurdly scripted videos. This is not one of them. Rather, it develops the subject matter, a day in the life of a Maine lobsterman, intelligently. We see fantastic shots of "Lobsterman Chris" working his boat, and telling his viewers what is going on, set against a beautiful Maine background. Other narrators provide important facts as the video progresses, often highlighted by graphics that appropriately fade in to assist the learning process---a simple formula, but it works beautifully.
Without question, "Let's Go Lobstering!" is a winner!

I have spent countless summers in Maine and in that time, I have acquired a heightened awareness of Maine-made products that, because they are of such quality, truly matter, and therefore have stood the test of time as retail items. A couple of great children's books written four or five decades ago come readily to mind. And this DVD, "Let's Go Lobstering!", belongs in such company. Because of it's wholesome, educational and easy to understand approach to one of Maine's most important industries, it is destined to become a classic. It is that good!

This DVD has it all---beautifully shot, fascinating subject matter, compelling narratives, highly educational, with a lighthearted, entertaining storyline, and best of all---anyone from ages four to adult will enjoy it! I myself really enjoyed learning about the lobsterman's gear. If you ever wondered about the world of the Maine lobsterman, then "Let's Go Lobstering!" is the DVD for you! It's a no-brainer---BUY IT!
