Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Great video!.......2005-02-09

I'm not too sure why this video has gotten so many bad reviews, but we definitely think it is worth 5 stars in our house. It's very nice how Wendy surprises Bob with a birthday party and how the trucks make him a "cement" birthday cake. Wendy even gets to go line dancing in this video since Mavis sprained her ankle. The trucks get in on the act and do their own special "line dance." The segment on Spud trying to learn some manners is very cute, with Bob reminding him on how to wipe his mouth and to eat with utensils.

All-in-all, we give this one a 5 star rating. It's very enjoyable, moves very well and is quite educational.

5 out of 5 stars Very good video.......2003-01-18

My little brother just got this for his birthday - he's five and he loves Bob the Builder - so I watched it with him and I must say I was very favourably impressed. This is probably one of the best children's programs around. I appreciated the fact that all the characters were very positive - no bad attitudes etc - and just loved to work together and were kind to one another.

The stories on this video... The first was about Bob's birthday, when he thinks everyone has forgotten but Wendy dahling makes it a surprise party and assures Bob she'd never forget his birthday, while Spud waits impatiently for cake.

The second was a little story about Spud having dessert with Bob and Wendy and trying very hard to behave himself. Very cute.

In the third story Wendy goes to visit her sister and while she is gone Bob leaves Pilchard in charge of the office and re-landscapes Wendy's back garden, which is a mess. Needless to say, she is very touched when she sees the great improvement in her garden, but I wonder what she thought the next morning when she went into the office?

The fourth little story is about Dizzy helping Wendy to water the new garden.

The fifth story... Bob takes a day off to go photograph a rare bird in Farmer Pickles' field, but something has gone wrong with the computer and Wendy can't leave the office, so she keeps calling Bob to do the work until the repairman gets there. The repairman is a rather absentminded fellow who remembered to bring his lunch and is allergic to cats - or was it peanut butter?

The sixth story is another short one where some hedgehogs help Bob clean up a littered road (with a subtle hint at the very good point, "Don't litter")...

The seventh story concerns a cowboy line-dancing contest in which Bob plans to take part, with Mavis from the good old P.O. On the evening of the contest, Wendy has a pity party to Pilchard about being stuck at home watching TV while the rest of the town is dancing all night. And just then, Bob's cell phone rings, and it's Mavis who has sprained her ankle... so, Wendy drops a few rather obvious hints in Bob's direction and... off they go.

The last one was a little story about Dizzy and Roley singing with Bird. Pilchard jumps on the wall and frightens Bird and the Curtain Descends.

I recommend this highly.

5 out of 5 stars My 2 year old loves this video.......2002-12-03

We have a rule in our house that our son can only watch one video per day, and he always chooses this video/DVD. It keeps his attention and he learns a lot from it. I especially like the segment where Spud has to learn his manners, it reinforces saying "Please" and "Thank You".

4 out of 5 stars Very, very disappointed.......2002-11-25

As has been said in these reviews, the fact that the Bob company couldn't figure out how to make a dvd is really sad.

The content is okay, but until this company figures out how to make tracks and a menu, I would wait to buy anything from them. When you can't get past the previews or go to a particular track, you may as well have the vhs.

4 out of 5 stars Can you dig it?.......2002-10-26

My 2 1/2 year old can. I personally don't see the attraction to any of the Bob the Builder videos, but we watch this one every Friday Night. There is something about how Bob shouts "we won!" that really appeals to my son. I'm glad the stories are now being released on DVD and this one is more enjoyable than Pets in the Pickle.

        To the Rescue
There's no need to check your fears at the door when you enter the friendly workshop of Bob the Builder. Instead, this is the very place to confront and, eventually, flatten them, especially if you happen to be a little kid who's terrified of heights or the dark. To the Rescue! presents four adventures of the British series (seen in the states on Nick Jr.) interspersed with four miniepisodes, all featuring the most cooperative crew of construction machines you've ever come across. There's Lofty, a bashful blue crane who's crippled by fear when duty calls from far up; Muck, a lobster-red bulldozer whose engine sputters to a stall when he's supposed to pitch in in the pitch dark; Scoop, a yellow worker-bee backhoe; Rolly the steamroller; cement mixer Dizzy; Pilchard, the construction crew's pet kitty; smart-alecky scarecrow Spud; and boss man Bob and office worker Wendy, the series' sole people and mom and pop figures. Each highly predictable segment starts off with the gang gearing up to tackle the torn-up terrain at a new worksite. Soon enough, some tension-filled predicament that at first seems insurmountable--like when Bob is stranded after Lofty accidentally knocks down his ladder in "Clocktower Bob"--is steered toward a happy ending through chirpy votes of confidence and soothing words. --Tammy LaGorce

3 out of 5 stars Rescue is not for young ones.......2004-06-23

I bought this set for my 1 yr old. He loves the Celebrate With Bob dvd. But I have had to put away the Rescue dvd. It is about Muck being scared of the dark. Believe it my son is scared of this and is now scared of the dark. I hope when he is older and understands more I will be able to play this again and he will not be scared.

Be careful and observe your child, if they get scared take it away the first time they watch it. So that they do get scared of the dark.

1 out of 5 stars Worst DVD authoring I've seen!.......2004-02-13

Contentwise you get what you expect : Bob the Builder episodes. But only 4(around 40 mins total) on each DVD!? To make matters worse, ths "Celebrate with Bob" DVD has EVERYGHING in one track and one chapter, i.e. one has to bear with 6 mins of previews before the episodes start, and after that you don't have a menu to navigate through episodes, they all show in one go as if watching VHS! The "To the Rexcue DVD" just gives the viewer the benefit of language selection and apart from that NO menu, one can just wade through the (precious few ) 4 episodes with the chapter button on his remote. This kind of product shows disrespect to the buyer.
