The creators of the sensational 3-D computer-animated series VeggieTales transport their goofiest character--Larryboy--into the traditional world of 2-D line-drawing animation for a new Christian-lite comedy series. In this first episode, Larryboy (the superhero alter ego of Larry the Cucumber) takes on the dastardly Awful Alvin, who has made sure any angry citizen of Bumblyburg stays angry thanks to his legions of batlike eyebrows. The gentle lesson of letting go of anger is massaged with the typical VeggieTales high jinks. Many of the well-known VeggieTales stars make appearances; Bob the Tomato is editor of the newspaper where Larry is not a Clark Kent-like reporter but rather a janitor. Also included is the silent short "Fly by Night," in which Larryboy takes on a pesky fly. Ages 4 and older. --Doug Thomas

5 out of 5 stars Fun Kids' Video.......2005-09-19

This is a Veggie Tales video that is in a cartoon format instead of the usual computerized animation. Larry Boy learns the importance of letting go of his anger. He fights against the villan who sends out his evil eyebrow minions to make the residents of Bumblyburg stay mad at each other about silly things. There is also a bonus cartoon about Larry Boy and an annoying fly that bothers him as he's trying to relax outdoors. Our kids loved both. It's next to impossible to find this video at Blockbuster or video stores or dept. stores (I looked and looked), so get it online if you can.

5 out of 5 stars My daughter loves this video!.......2005-03-15

My 3 1/2 year-old loves this video. We saw it at her Grandfather's house, and this was the only video she watched while she was visiting. The more I saw it, the more I liked it. Different from the other VeggieTales videos, but once I got past that and got used to the animation, I realized what a great video it is! We're definitely buying this one for home.

5 out of 5 stars 5-star movie, 4-star bonus features.......2004-10-25

Don't get me wrong, I loved this movie. I love all the Larryboy movies, and since I'm a big Awful Alvin fan, this one is one of my favorites.

Many other people have given you the summary of the movie and their opionions on it, so let me just take a minute to rate the bonus features.

First we have something called "Secret Stuff." From there we find the following:

*Origins of Larryboy- This was a little segment in which the voice of Larry (couldn't spell his last name) talks about how Larryboy came about. It's fun.

*Animation Progession- Nicely done.

*Storyboards-A little strange, cause you can't really see the words under the pictures.

*Story Real- This is a cool idea, but the drawings of Larryboy have him a little mean-looking.

*Sets and backgrounds- This is good. It shows the main settings where the story takes place.

*Characters- These are drawings of all the characters in different positions. (Well, Lampy's only in one.)

*Superheroes- This is billed on the back of the DVD as "Guide to Bumblyburg's Superheroes and Super-villains." This made me think it was bios, which they have on every other Larryboy DVD. Rather, it's an around-three-minute feature talking about some of the superheroes in Larryboy's class. The super-villains part was what disappointed me. They said three senetaces about Awful Alvin (count 'em, three, and nothing you wouldn't know from watching the movie) and then spent the rest of the time talking about the Alchemist and Mother Pearl from the next movie, Leggo My Ego. Don't get me wrong, Alchemist and Mother Pearl are funny. But if I want to know about them, I'll watch Leggo My Ego. If it's about super-villains on The Angry Eyebrows, it's supposed to be about Awful Alvin. (Sigh.)

*Promo Materials- This is okay, though there aren't that many previews to choose from. The "Printed Stuff" mini-section was good, though.

*Secret ROM Stuff- I can't rate this, because I don't really have a DVD ROM drive on my computer. (If it's there, I don't know about it.)

Then we have "Fun." This is where things start warming up:

*Top Swapper- Really cute and really, really funny. Need a laugh? Just plop Vicki's hair on Larryboy (or Larryboy's plunger ears on Awful Alvin) and you'll be cracking up.

*Learn to draw Larryboy- This is actually three segements, one after the other showing (in order) how to draw Larryboy (how cute) how to draw Awful Alvin (yay!) and the differences between Larryboy and "regular" (if you can call him that) Larry.

*Larry-okeke- Nice pun. Good sing-along, too.

*DVD ROM Fun- Again, can't rate this for lack of DVD-ROM Drive.

*Easter Eggs- Ah, yes, good old Easter Eggs. Here we have three. One was the first pencil test for the movie, another showed the cockpit of the Larryplane. My personal favorite, though, is a little thing called "What if Lampy could play Top-Swapper?"

This was a really good movie, and I recommend you see it.

The bonus features are a little different from all the others, but they were just warming up.

See you in the movies!

5 out of 5 stars Give it some credit, folks!.......2004-09-30

Man, this is getting a lot of undeserved bad reviews.

Yes, this is different. It's supposed to be different.

That's what happened with "Esther" and "Auto-Tainment", too. People hated it because it was different.

Another website said Awful Alvin was boring. Uh-huh. I see disco-dancing green onions all the time.

As for Larryboy...

HE.. IS... THAT... HERO!

The new theme song is very catchy, although some people might prefer the old one.

The plot line is hilarous.

Larryboy is adorable. (He's a janitor because "it's the only job he was qualified for.")

The "villian", Awful Alvin, was a hoot.

All in all, this is a very underrated but very good film.

Much better than most people give it credit for.

P.S. That "Fly by might" short gets 3 stars from me. It's hilarous, but it just doesn't seem like Larry to try to destroy a fly.

4 out of 5 stars I for one am glad to have this in my son's video library........2004-05-07

Sure it's different from other Veggie Tales, but it's technically not Veggie Tales...it's Larry Boy. It's supposed to be different, and as mentioned, geared for older children.

I do agree that the short was disappointing to say the least...all the fly did was land on his nose, and Larry became obsessed in wishing to destroy him...not a good lesson for kids...

...However, the message of not holding onto one's anger or things will get progressively worse is a very good one, especially if your child has a problem with this. On a couple occasions after a rough day in school, I'd let my son watch this and the very next day he had totally turned it around, proudly stating that no angry eyebrows got him.

Kudos to Big Idea!
