There was such a magic on the screen in 1995 when the people at Pixar came up with the first fully computer-animated film, Toy Story. Their second feature film, A Bug's Life, may miss the bull's-eye but Pixar's target is so lofty, it's hard to find the film anything less than irresistible.
Brighter and more colorful than the other animated insect movie of 1998 (Antz), A Bug's Life is the sweetly told story of Flik (voiced by David Foley), an ant searching for better ways to be a bug. His colony unfortunately revolves around feeding and fearing the local grasshoppers (lead by Hopper, voiced with gleeful menace by Kevin Spacey). When Flik accidentally destroys the seasonal food supply for the grasshoppers he decides to look for help ("We need bigger bugs!"). The ants, led by Princess Atta (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), are eager to dispose of the troublesome Flik. Yet he finds help--a hearty bunch of bug warriors--and brings them back to the colony. Unfortunately they are just traveling performers afraid of conflict.
As with Toy Story, the ensemble of creatures and voices is remarkable and often inspired. Highlights include wiseacre comedian Denis Leary as an un-ladylike ladybug, Joe Ranft as the German-accented caterpillar, David Hyde Pierce as a stick bug, and Michael McShane as a pair of unintelligible pillbugs. The scene-stealer is Atta's squeaky-voiced sister, baby Dot (Hayden Panettiere), who has a big sweet spot for Flik.
More gentle and kid-friendly than Antz, A Bug Life's still has some good suspense and a wonderful demise of the villain. However, the film--a giant worldwide hit--will be remembered for its most creative touch: "outtakes" over the end credits à la many live-action comedy films. These dozen or so scenes (both "editions" of outtakes are contained here) are brilliant and deserve a special place in film history right along with 1998's other most talked-about sequence: the opening Normandy invasion in Saving Private Ryan.
The video also contains Pixar's delightful Oscar-winning short, Geri's Game. Box art varies. --Doug Thomas

Delightful family film.......2007-04-25
I think I can just about act out any part in this movie at this point. Since this past Friday, I've watched it about 15 times. The kids love it and want to watch it over and over again. It is a darling movie about that little ant that just wouldn't give up. Great lessons for our children along with dazzling Disney animation. Highly recommended.
The Only Movie You'll Ever Need.......2007-03-30
If I could only keep one movie, this would be it. The kids love it. You learn a little bit about bugs. The kids learn to respect bugs. The outtakes are funny. My five-year old is a little scared of the mean grasshoppers, but my two-year old can't get enough of it. (2nd child syndrome) She calls it the "Princess Dot" movie.
Cute Movie. Great for young children.......2007-03-13
Overall the DVD was good and very much appropriate for young children. However, after a couple of weeks it had fallen to the back of his preference list. We've not watched it in over a year now. I guess this isn't so different from any other DVD we have.
I would recommend this for young children. It does have a few concepts that are not appropriate, but are presented in a way that is way over the heads of children adn does have a few scenes that very concervative parents may term violent. The movie is mostly an original concept but there are striking similarities to Antz.
Bug's Life GREAT.......2007-03-09

Okay, I Can't Stand Anything Lindsay Lohan ANYMORE!!!!.......2007-06-04
I'm cured, I have just found out that I hate anything from Lindsay Lohan; any movies, music, calendars, pictures, etc. I need to go to a 12-step group for people suffering from a world with Lindsay Lohan in it... God knows that Lindsay Lohan needs to go to a 12-group for people suffering from people who have lied to them by telling them that they have talent, that people love them regardless of how stupid they are and act, that they are dangerous to society, and, that they are NOT hypersensitive to drugs and alcohol...
A n ice lark of a Movie for the Teen Set.......2007-03-17
An OK plot with Lindsey Lohan sluething a missing teacher with a nice twist to the plot. Teens finding out while adults have problems. Oh well- it's a entertaining and fun Lark if you like that kind of movie.
Keeps growing on me.......2006-09-16
I know this is a Disney movie for a certain audience but I have to say I rented it one night and really liked it. My reading choices are all very serious so I like a break when I put on a dvd. I appreciated the charm of this movie but what I noticed that I like a lot is how it has the feeling of a play in the writing. I felt like I was watching a decent high school production of a story. The acting is quite good in the context of this movie, I think Brenda Song has a long future as a comedic talent. It took me a couple of viewings to figure out why the city scape looked familiar, it's Toronto!
so bad it's almost fun to laugh at it...almost.......2006-07-27
You could just tell this movie wanted to be a combination of Clueless and Nancy Drew. It fails miserably. First of all, the fashion looks like thrift shop trash. It is completely hideous and it is kind of funny when Lindsay and her friend act like they're so styling when they are wearing the outfits. You'll feel vomit rising in your throat just looking at the fashions. The funniest outfit was the white pants with the red cherries place randomly on them. It looked like she had just gotten her period. That was the funniest thing about the entire movie which is kind of sad, if you think about it. The mystery fails because it makes no sense. Lindsay takes a picture of her teacher for the SCHOOL paper and then he vanishes. Everybody believes he's died but he hasn't. Turns out this dude has faked his death more than once. Maybe he got the idea from hearing all the Elvis conspiracy rumors, lol. Anyway, Lindsay and her 4 friend start to get to work on the mystery and for them, it means having more spy gadets than any little kid would ever have. They also don't look like very convincing spy gadets. One of them looks like a remote control off a little kid's toy car. No big surprise but they solve the crime but not without the "wacky" slapstick chase that was just embarrassingly bad. Oh and then the movie has a fat principal who's says hardly anything and is not really part of the plot but I suppose she was thrown in so that they could have her walk, put it in slow motion and hope people laughed at the big fat lady more than at Lindsay's clothes and weird hairline. Watch it only if you want to make fun of it, it's not good for anything else.
Get a clue it's there inside of you!.......2006-03-05
Love Lindsay Lohan Lohan, Love Disney Channel, Love this Movie! This movie is part of the Disney Channel Original Movie series. It stars teen sensation Lindsay Lohan and rising star Brenda Song. . Lexy (Lohan) plays a teen reporter for her school and her gossip leads to bad things. Her teacher goes missing and it's up to Lexy and her friends to crack the case and find him. The dvd also feature's an alternate ending and awesome previews for other Disney Channel Original Movie's (DCOMS). The only problem is they don't include behind the scenes and the Simon and Milo music video. Other than that the dvd is so fun to watch at a sleep over or just sit around with your family.
Stars-
Lindsay Lohan (The Parent Trap and Mean Girls)
Brenda Song (Stuck in the Suburbs and Disney's The Suite Life of Zack and Cody)
Bug Hall (Little Rascals and The Big Green)

Farscape is genre television at its most ambitious, inspired both by the cult appeal of Babylon 5 and the continuing success of the Star Trek franchise, but taking a visual and conceptual leap beyond those shows. Making extensive use of CGI, prosthetics, and state-of-the-art puppetry, courtesy of Jim Henson's Creature Shop, the Farscape concept has a freshness that makes it look and feel completely original. In "Through the Looking Glass," the crew and Moya are thrown into a dimensional schism inhabited by a strange creature; and, in "A Bug's Life," an intelligent virus is released on the ship after an encounter with Peacekeepers. --Mark Walker
Description
"Through the Looking Glass": The pregnant Moya attempts StarBurst prematurely in an attempt to prove her worth but abruptly comes to a halt sending the crew flying. In the aftermath, they discover Rygel has disappeared. Setting off to look for him, Aeryn and D'Argo also disappear in a flash of light before the other's very eyes. Crichton discovers inter-dimensional doors leading to four different Moyas. Crichton learns that Moya is stuck in the wall of StarBurst. He must get all four Moya to push forward at the same time if they ever want to reunite and not be destroyed. Crichton must race against the clock if he is to save them all.
"A Bug's Life": When special commandos are forced by a fuel leak to come aboard the ship they are deceived into believing that Moya is still under Peacekeeper control. They reveal to Aeryn and Crichton that they are on a mission to a secret base to deliver an unmarked crate. Curious about the crate's contents, Rygel and Chiana are the first to discover an unseen enemy; a lethal virus living within a host body. Virtually undetectable, the virus plays a deadly jumping game as it changes host from Thonn to Chiana to Crichton. The commandos and Moya's renegade crew must work together to recapture it, for if it remains in its infancy stage, it can be stopped before breeding to hundreds of worlds.

Pass this version up. .......2006-05-26
In all that is good in the world please do not opt for this DVD collection. While Farscape is an excellent sci-fi series this DVD set is nothing compared to the current Starburst Edition, Season One Volume Three. Instead of getting a measly two episodes you get seven remastered episodes with commentaries and extra features AND at a price comparable to the retail price offered for this collection.
Granted you can probably find this DVD pretty cheap now, but you would be doing yourself a disservice. Seriously. If you want to start collecting Farscape forego the original DVD collection and check out the Starburst Edition.
Looking Glass--3 stars; Bug's Life--5 stars.......2005-10-02
In "Through the Looking Glass," the pregnant Moya attempts to starburst prematurely, thereby lodging herself in the interdimensional space that is crossed instantaneously during a normal passage. Crichton (Ben Browder) must coordinate efforts in four distinctive and coexisting environments in order to save the day. A substandard episode.
"A Bug's Life" has a cliche premise (who is harboring the body-snatching alien invader?), but redeems itself with exceptional plotting and direction. This episode generates more tension than one would expect from series television.
A good place to start your Farscape adventure.......2004-06-17
Both episodes are superior pieces of work from the first season of Farscape.
"Through the Looking Glass" is a supurb stand-alone episode that is, IMHO, the best introduction to those new to the Farscape universe. All of Moya's crew gets to shine is this interesting set-piece when Moya gets stuck in starburst and is split into four separate environments representing normal, light, sound, & giddyness (I guess). Note how the show begins and ends with the crew eating together and just how different the mood is between both scenes. Also note Chiana's rather cat-like growl at John in the "happy" section.
"A Bug's Life" in notable for being the first in the five-episode run that ended the first season. It's best viewed with the rest of the episodes so you can fully enjoy the storyline.
A hearty recommendation and bon appetite!
One of the better season 1 dvd's.......2002-08-28
Maybe it's just my poor timing, but I find these episodes to be ones that haven't often turned up on Scifi. They're both excellent. Without spoilers, the first one begins with the crew hilariously munching out and trashing each other while occasionally throwing food, interrupted by Moya splitting into dimensions. The dimensional shifts are handled differently than usual, which is quite interesting. In A Bug's Life, Crichton masquerades as a Peacekeeper captain in order to deal with a peacekeeper crew landing on Moya, but much else goes on, with Erin particularly good in this episode believably attracted to someone other than John. The "extra" focuses on Lani Tupu. It is terrible, like all the extras on the Farscape dvd's, but is redeemed by his talking of how he voices Pilot!
Two Favorites in one DVD.......2002-07-24
Add this volume to the "Best Of" compilation and you will have nearly everything you need of season 1 ("They've Got a Secret" is also important). TTLG is one of my favorites, allowing the cast to have some fun and a mini-mystery. Bug's Life is pivotal to the storyline in the finale arc (Farscape delivers some of the most amazing finales in tv, definite movie calibre!).

Happiness.......2007-05-14
I am compelety satisfied with dvd when I recicevd it. It was in great condition, and it did not take forever to recieve it either. Thanks a lot hope to do more buisness here.
This video couldn't be better. Enjoy the helpful stories that instill good behavior actions. Thank you.

I see demons everywhere!!!.......2007-01-02
I just saw this movie and I am still sitting here stunned. I loved this movie. It really brings together who really are the "demons" in one's life. Being raised with this mentality myself, and spending many hours in therapy to rationalize what had happened to my childhood, I can sympathize with anyone that goes through this kinda "torment" and celebrate thier freedom when they are out of it. This movie is very like real life and very believable to the last second. I recommend this movie to anyone that has had hopes and dreams to achieve with minimal support and finally gets what the person wanted. Achievement!!!!!
GOOD MOVIE,I DIDNT EXPECTED!!!.......2006-11-26
I just saw this movie .WOW I really liked it, cast they done great job, acting & cast was SUPER!!!!!!!!!
Love the rock sound track, great music in this movie, Really got me, Because any youth have dream to become someone or having a talent to make it big one day in this crazy world. And is true!!And this guy, have talent for Halloween mask & special effects & makeup he makes, with the real "disturbing" & scary life drama he have, really got me in edge my seat and didn't let me go till end with a little twist I never thought going to comes like that...really liked it!!
I gives this movie with great scrip and cast a B+
Don't miss this movie for sure ,rent or buy whatever just see it at least once!
A strange but interesting movie.......2006-08-06
It's a odd but well done little movie. This young man wants to become a special effects artist. He's very good at making horror masks and scary creatures. You can't help but feel for the guy. His mom is...well...white trash. And the people around him are too. The people around him are so cartoonish it bothered me. But they did make them more real as the movie evolved. They became more real and likable. I could feel for his mother at the end.
One person besides the main character who was authentic was his girlfriend (acted by Laura Prepon of That '70s Show fame). At times, it seemed as if there are two normal people surrounded by the strange denizens of the small town they live in. Perhaps that was done intentionally.
This movie is a fine effort at being unique. It's a drama with touches of comedy and horror. It comes across as a B movie but again I think that was intended to feel that way.
Lightning Bug by director Robert Hall.......2006-07-05
This movie was filmed close to where I live. I honestly wasn't sure how good it was going to be. I was very suprised. This is an excellent movie! The story is well written, the characters are so real that it was easy to forget that I knew some of the locations in the film! I have watched it about 4 or 5 times already and would recommend it to ANYONE who likes down to earth suspense in small town locations. Truly a wonderful movie.
Good work Laura,Brett,Lucas.......2005-12-31
I rented this movie from my local video store because
I am a fan of Laura Prepon. Lightning Bug might not have drawn my attention otherwise. I like the movie and bought it to "vote with my dollar" in support of independent film makers. That 70'Show began airing when I was completely disgusted with TV for glamourising stupid dysfunctional BS. T7S is still one of very few shows I watch and I am still mad at Fox for screwing over Grounded For Life!
Lightning Bug is a permanent addition to my movie collection. The other customer reviews which slam it are full of crap,in my humble opinion. Mark in Indianapolis.

Toy Story
There is greatness in film that can be discussed, dissected, and talked about late into the night. Then there is genius that is right in front of our faces-- we smile at the spell it puts us under and are refreshed, and nary a word needs to be spoken. This kind of entertainment is what they used to call "movie magic," and there is loads of it in this irresistible computer-animation feature. Just a picture of these bright toys on the cover of Toy Story looks intriguing, reawakening the kid in us. Filmmaker John Lasseter's shorts (namely Knickknack and Tin Toy) illustrate not only a technical brilliance but also a great sense of humor--one in which the pun is always intended. Lasseter thinks of himself as a storyteller first and an animator second, much like another film innovator, Walt Disney. Lasseter's story is universal and magical: what do toys do when they're not played with? Cowboy Woody (voiced by Tom Hanks), Andy's favorite bedroom toy, tries to calm the other toys (some original, some classic) during a wrenching time of year--the birthday party, when newer toys may replace them. Sure enough, Space Ranger Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen) is the new toy that takes over the throne. Buzz has a crucial flaw, though--he believes he's the real Buzz Lightyear, not a toy. Bright and cheerful, Toy Story is much more than a 90-minute commercial for the inevitable bonanza of Woody and Buzz toys. Lasseter further scores with perfect voice casting, including Don Rickles as Mr. Potato Head and Wallace Shawn as a meek dinosaur. The director-animator won a special Oscar® for "the development and inspired application of techniques that have made possible the first feature-length computer-animated film." In other words, the movie is great.
A Bug's Life
There was such a magic on the screen in 1995 when the people at Pixar came up with the first fully computer-animated film, Toy Story. Their second feature film, A Bug's Life, may miss the bull's-eye, but Pixar's target is so lofty, it's hard to find the film anything less than irresistible. When Flik accidentally destroys the seasonal food supply for the grasshoppers, he decides to look for help ("We need bigger bugs!"). The ants, led by Princess Atta (Julia Louis- Dreyfus), are eager to dispose of the troublesome Flik. More gentle and kid-friendly than Antz, A Bug's Life still has some good suspense and a wonderful demise of the villain.
Toy Story 2
John Lasseter and his gang of high-tech creators at Pixar conjure up another entertainment for all ages. Like the few great movie sequels, Toy Story 2 comments on why the first one was so wonderful while finding a fresh angle worthy of a new film. The craze of toy collecting becomes the focus here, as we find out Woody (voiced by Tom Hanks) is not only a beloved toy to Andy but also a rare doll from a popular '60s children's show. When a greedy collector takes Woody, Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen) launches a rescue mission with Andy's other toys. To say more would be a crime because this is one of the most creative and smile-inducing films since, well, the first Toy Story. Although the toys look the same as in the 1995 feature, Pixar shows how much technology has advanced: the human characters look more human, backgrounds are superior, and two action sequences that book-end the film are dazzling. And it's a hoot for kids and adults. The film is packed with spoofs, easily accessible in-jokes, and inspired voice casting (with newcomer Joan Cusack especially a delight as Cowgirl Jessie). But, as the Pixar canon of films illustrates, the filmmakers are storytellers first. Woody's heart-tugging predicament can easily be translated into the eternal debate of living a good life versus living forever. Toy Story 2 also achieved something in the U.S. that two other outstanding 1999 animated features (The Iron Giant, Princess Mononoke) could not: it became a huge box-office hit. --Doug Thomas

Gotta Love Toy Story!.......2007-01-02
Toy Story is a must have video for any family...Toy Story 2 and A Bug's Life are also cute!! :)
Three of the Best Cartoons Ever.......2003-08-24
These three movies are three of the best cartoons ever made. The first Toy Story began Pixar's move into the mainstream and it was a groundbreaker. A Bug's Life will feel a bit more like a children's story compared with the Toy Storys, but, though it may be Pixar's worst, it is better than all of Disney's modern cartoons with the exception of Aladdin and Beauty and the Beast. Toy Story 2 is Pixar's best (Finding Nemo a close second). I've never laughed as hard as I had throughout the story. The comedic moments were perfectly timed. The references to other movies were perfect. And as the movie progressed, the more you laughed. Not only that, but it also had an actual serious message, with a moment in the middle that made you think rather than just laugh.
Truly perfect.
Great for kids.......2003-07-29
I love this bundle for my 3 yr old. He loves Buzz and this 3 pack gives him a choice of what to watch. Kids don't need any extras and it saves you money to buy the bundle. You get three great movies at one low price.

This video couldn't be better. Enjoy the helpful stories that instill good behavior actions. Thank you.
