I was just doing my avarage morning buisness, some bud and some beers on the crapper while the blues played in the backround, so i got lost in the blues and decided to grab my harmonica and try to play along with sonny terry and brownie mcghee (buy there stuff (dvds too) from amazon) they are killer, but anyway, as allways after playing the blues on the harmonica, i started playing the first song i learned, it was pippi long stocking, (i am pippi long stocking what a big long funny nay-ame)and dont forget the "hopanna hoppa hop shanna"!!!! so anyway iv been playing that song on pure memory, cuz i havent seen pippi since i was a kid, and im now 30. i NEVER amagined that pippi would be on amazon, so i never checked but today i said to myself, "WOW what if they HAD pippi, im gonna check, AND HERE IT IS!!! I CANT WAIT!!!!!!!!!! i remember she had about 3 or 4 moveis, there all on here!!!! COOOOL!!!

My kids were so excited to get these! They have watched them not stop since they arrived. Pippi was a favorite of mine when I was a kid & now my children love her too! Pippi is cool!.......2007-05-29

My best friend and I have grown up watching this movie. Now that we're older, we have begun to notice some of the corny special effects and lines, but I still think The New Adventures of Pippi Longstocking is cool!! I know that the way Pippi is portrayed in the movie is a bit of a character stretch, but, quite honestly, I saw the movie before reading any of the books. If it had been the other way around, I might not like the movie as much as I do. For me, this movie is a lot of fun memories.

My kids love this movie. They didn't want to watch it because "Dad that movie is old." Yes it is old as far as they (9 yr old boy and 7 yr old girl) are concerned but I bribed them into watching it and they loved it. My daughter watches this several times a week. I think my son has a thing for Pippi. This is a good family movie and unlike the "family" movies they put out today you don't have to hit the FF button because there are no family un-friendly parts. Buy this movie and spend an evening with the kids. You'll be glad you did.

I couldn't find this movie anywhere. I had decided to dress up as Pippi for Halloween, and my children didn't know who I was talking about. When it arrived, I was so excited to share it w/ my children. They loved it. My oldest was singing the songs for days. I am so glad that something that I loved so much as a child is now loved by my children.

Pippi Wormed Her Way Into My Heart........2007-06-14

Pippi Longstocking is every parent's nightmare. She is rude, manner less, uncouth, and loud. However, she is also full of soul, caring, generous, and loving. I have to give this movie two thumbs up for worming its way into my heart.

I watched this classic over and over as a child, and knew that I had to see it again. I didn't necessarily remember the voice overs the first time around. They are quite distracting, but I can understand why there were no subtitles.

Nonetheless, this DVD would be a great addition to any child's repertoire.

My 10 year old absolutely adored this movie as I knew she would. The video and audio on the DVD have definitely been remastered and was much better that I could ever remember previously.

When I was little I loved the Pippi Longstocking movies (in Germany), now my kids love them. Since they're educated trilingual we have the series in German, Dutch and English. The truest one seems to be the German version (well, the movies were a German/Swedish production), the Dutch is pretty good too, although some of the voices are far too squeeky. The English version is well translated but edited a lot and even put together in another order! Still, Pippi rules. And a lot better than some Powerpuff girls or Little Ponies!

I bought this DVD thinking back to when I was a child and how much I enjoyed the video... it must have been a different one. Or at least I don't remember the voice over, as an adult it's distracting. My two children enjoyed it immensely though! I'm sure we'll be watching it over and over, well at least they will, the voice over bothers me.

The Swedish TV series used to make the poorly dubbed 1970s Pippi Longstocking movies is returned to the original episodic format here with new British-accented dubbing. The red-haired girl with the elevated braids moves into "the big house" next door to Tommy and Anna (as Annika is called here) in the inaugural episode and continues her nutty adventures with the demure siblings throughout five additional 26-minute programs. The kids get to know her pet monkey and fruit-munching horse, have dealings with the equally bumbling pairs of police and prison escapees, and eat as many sweets and break as many rules as innocent young children can dream. The dubbing is still a bit awkward here, but young kids will barely notice and the leisurely pace of the adventures is a welcome change from the frenzy of today's videos. This version is the best Pippi version that was my favorite as a kid. It still relates to children today because my nieces are stuck by the TV when it's turned on. They absolutely love it! Highly recommended!!!

I bought this version because the dubbing was touted as being superior.
The TV series still has its origional charm, my 7 year old loves it.
However, the dubbing is still bad.
Go with the less expensive version, it can't be much worse and you'll save money.
My friends loaned the DVD and loved it...very nostalgic.

My children used to watch it once a week when we were stationed in Germany, more then 30 years ago. They watch it now with their children and they all love it. I highly recomend it, it is clean fun for children to watch.

I grew up in Sweden and Pippi was very big when I was a little girl. I was thrilled when I saw that Pippi was translated into english. I wanted my children to be able to understand the movies. The biggest problem I had with the dvd was that the sound was inferior, it was hard to hear what they were saying. The british accent was hard to understand.
It was also very annoying that the girl was not called Annicka, like it is in the books and in the real version.
If I could have sent this back I would have done so immediately. I would have loved to buy all of Pippi's dvd's, but I will not buy any more in this serie for the fear that they will be the same bad quality.

I didn't think it was possible to take the magic out of Pippi Longstocking, but this movie succeeds in spades. The songs are cringe-worthy, the story is choppy, and Pippi just isn't Pippi.

Read the book to your kid instead.

A great movie to share with people of all ages........2005-01-15

Pippi is such a delightful character when it comes to the animated version. My son, though is an adult, loves her adventures and shares it with some of his family.

I think that young or old, Pippi is to be enjoyed by everybody who has ever gotten to know her.

Let's talk about Pippi..........2004-03-31

Chances are you've heard of Pippi Longstocking. The little red-haired girl that makes a habit of tossing around livestock, drawing on floors, washing the floor with her feet and so forth... Is this movie an accurate representation of her character? Is it even fun to watch?
The answer? To some degree.
The movie suffers from having too many songs, but many of them are frenetic enough to be easy to get used to and even like, though there are a couple of unlikable ones, I found the sound to be in general, good.
My main problem with this movie is that it tamed the story for some reason. Most of Pippi's wild stories are completely gone, and she no longer manhandles anyone who isn't a farm animal. The characters themselves often change on the spur of the moment to accomidate this. Even the fight at the circus (one of my favorite parts in the book,) became a tamer weight-lifting contest.
However, unlike the live version, the general attitude of Pippi is mostly similar to the one she had in the book, except perhaps that she's slightly less arrogant and lies a LOT less. This certainly gives it the edge it needs to be superior to the live-action movie, which trampled all over the character of the girl wonder.
There's only one scene in the movie that disturbed me a little, and that was near the end, where Prissilious tries to grab Pippi and she actually looks scared. That's not like Pippi at all.
But still, that's a fairly small thing, and if you MUST see Pippi on your TV screen (and I can't imagine why that would be,) this is the place to do it.
However, you're still far better off getting to know the REAL character of Pippi by reading the books, if you happen to have the time and literacy.

The funniest movie in the history of movies!.......1999-11-16

Pippi Longstocking was one of the few movies I loved the first time I saw it. A couple of my favorites in Pippi's gang are Kling, Klang, Bloom, and Pippi herself. I advise you (especially if you need some cheering up) to watch this movie. It is great for kids of all ages.

I purchased this as a Christmas gift for my grandson. He loves Pippi but was disappointed with the film. It was confusing to him because the dubbing was not in sync with the movement of the lips of the actors. I think it is difficult for children to understand the language conversion process. It is an enjoyable film but not anything to get real excited about.

Get ready to set sail on the high seas with everyone's favorite pig-taile powerhouse - the strongest girl in the world - Pippi Longstocking. This DVD contains episodes from the animated Canadian series starring Astrid Lindgren's most remarkable child. You'll meet her father, the sea captain, in these delightful adventures.

This DVD is just like the "Pippi's Adventures on the South Seas" DVD from HBO Home Video, except this title has a forth episode episode that you can't find on the "South Seas" DVD. That episode, which I consider as a "BONUS" episode, is "Pippi is Shipwrecked." See synopsis for that episode and the three others below. Also on this DVD, you can choose to watch all four eps or select one from the four to watch.

Here's what happens in each episode:

Pippi Goes to the South Seas: It is winter in the little town where Pippi and her friends, Tommy and Annika, live. Her father, the sea captain, docks in to take her on a trip to the South Seas. With permission from their parents, Tommy and Annika join her. On board, Pippi teaches the Settergren's about life on the ship, how to be lookouts, and how to stand up against pirates. Along with the three children and the captain, Thunder Karlson and Bloom, the two thieves who are in search of something to steal, come aboard. Unfortunately, the tramps get very seasick and they end up falling overboard. And then, they end up drifting away in a lifeboat. Returning to Pippi and her friends on board, they finally arrive to an island in the South Seas called Curi-Curi Dut.

Pippi Meets Some Pearl Poachers: After arriving on Curi-Curi Dut Island, Pippi's father the captain leaves her, Tommy and Annika in charge of the island's pearls. At the beginning of this episode, we find Thunder Karlson and Bloom washed up on an uncharted island. When the poachers arrive on Curi-Curi Dut, Pippi takes them as tourests at first. All three children have to uses their smarts against the poachers to keep them from stealing the pearls from the island. But when it comes to using strength to outdo those poachers, you know who is ready. I couldn't even help but get astonished when Pippi throws a shark at such a great distance.

Pippi Goes Home: After their adventures on Curi-Curi Island, it's time for Pippi, Tommy, and Annika to go home. On their way home, they rescue Thunder Karlson and Bloom from the deserted island they they landed on in the previous episode. After setting sail for home, they run into many problems like a windless passage and a title wave. It was Pippi, of course, who got the ship out of the windless channel! But the title wave scene put me in
a state where I was like, "Oh my god! what's next?!" I was on the edge of my seat during that scene! They soon get washed up on an unknown land, but then discover they may have seen that land before. In this episode, I couldn't help getting awestruck at some of Pippi's antics. For example, when Pippi calls for Mr. Nilson in the beginning of this episode, you'll find that Pippi has a loud voice! She yells so loudly she causes the ground to shake and Tommy and Annika could do nothing but hold their ears! Sometimes I think Pippi doesn't know some of her own strengths.

Pippi is Shipwrecked: In this "BONUS" episode, Pippi tells Tommy and Annika about some shipwrecks she's been in when she was sailing. Tommy and Annika get so interested in Pippi's adventures that they all decide to go on a shipwreck adventure of their own. So, Pippi pulls an old boat out of the water, gives it some repairs, and they set sail to an island that is in the middle of a lake. I must say that Pippi is so clever at repairing things. After arriving on that little island and encountering a shipwreck, they begin exploring after sending a bottled letter in hopes of being rescued. This was my most favorite episode of all off this DVD.

There's one thing all four Pippi Longstocking adventures have in common, ADVENTURE! And there's one thing for sure about these episodes, you will never get seasick as you watch.

Although I am know in my early 30's I still enjoy and have fun
watching this film with my friends and family. It's one of those
films that makes you wish you were a kid all over again.

Don't confuse this new animated version with the late-'60s, early-'70s Pippi-fests starring the ultimate Pip-ster, Inger Nilsson (who starred in three Swedish Pippi films as well as a Pippi TV series). Nilsson's version of Pippi in the South Seas was highlighted by all the trademarks of Pippi, those stand-up braids, those striped tops, but mostly the very bad and obvious dubbing into English. One-film actress Tami Erin took over for the 1988 American version, generally panned for being even worse (if that's possible) than the Swedish versions. But this new Pippi, an animated sequel to Pippi Longstocking and from HBO, fares much better than her predecessors.

Pippi's quirky life and lifestyle lend themselves well to animation. Rather than being truly odd (in Nilsson's versions) or downright bratty (as Erin portrayed her), Pippi is a lively, thoughtful imp who sets sail to the South Seas with a ship's captain, who's revealed to be her father. She finds herself up against pirates and poachers, but her pluck, vigor, and loyalty prevail. (Ages 3 and up) --N.F. Mendoza

Okay for Pippi fans - old-fashioned style........2004-12-29

Somewhat clunky animation by Nelvana and Saturday-morning KidVid pace and dramatic flow, this DVD complements the existing Pippi stories just fine.

In fact, consider it a calming retro-step back from 2004's standard of frenetic, violent anime styling. Good for the under-ten set.

If Nelvana felt like issuing more along these lines, I'd buy 'em.

My students fell in love with Pippi this year, and really enjoyed "The New Adventures of Pippi Longstocking", which is not animated. This one was good too, but not as exciting.

These four exciting adventures from Canada's animated series of everyone's favorite Swedish red head, Pippi Longstocking, are sure to make you laugh. After watching each of Pippi's stories, I couldn't help but marval at what she can do. If ever someone wants to sell a house where a little girl resides in or wants to steal a chest of gold, it's Pippi Longstocking to the rescue! You can count on Pippi to save the day in each of her rim-tickling adventures.
Here's what happens in each episode on this DVD:

Pippi Returns to Villa Villakula: After sailing on the ocean for quite some time, Pippi Longstocking returns to her home, Villa Villakula. She lives all alone with nobody but her horse named... uh, well, Horse and her monkey named Mr. Nilson. In the town, she makes two new friends who live next door. Their names are Tommy and Annika. They tell Pippi that their lives are boring ... that is until Pippi makes no end of trouble in the town. Tommy and Annika couldn't help but get awestruck when Pippi lifts up Bengt the bully high in the air with her super human strenth and tosses him up a tree. Also, you couldn't stop wondering how Pippi can fill a sail on a ship with just one breath and how she can climb up a house onto the ruth. The little town, thanks to Pippi, will never be the same again with her around!

Pippi Doesn't Sell Her House: A man wants to buy Villa Villakula, and Tommy and Annika get somewhat shocked. But you bet that Pippi is ready to take on the action and halt the sale. The two thieves, Thunder Karlson and his assistant Bloom, decide to become real estate agents so they can sell Pippi's house and steal her chest of gold. Unfortunately, everyone's plans get backfired by Pippi's antics and they all get arrested. Also, you'll discover that Pippi has a difficult time trying to write when she invites Tommy and Annika for a tree party - a tea party in a hollow tree in Pippi's garden.

Pippi Meets a Master Criminal: After Thunder Karlson and Bloom look into a book on how to become a master criminal, they decide to carry out a crime and steal Pippi's gold. However, Pippi and her eccentric habits become obstacles while they try to commit that crime. First, Pippi tells a ghost story to the burglars which becomes too creepy that it scared them. Next, they write a letter begging Pippi to rescue them. Unfortunately, neither Pippi nor the other people in the town could figure out what they wrote. Their writing was as bad as Pippi's, or maybe worse. Finally, Pippi and the thieves play hide-and-seek. As the game went on, Thunder Karlson tries to sneak out with the money, but he and Bloom end up being found. In the end, the thieves end up stealing a chest of coconuts instead of Pippi's money.

Pippi Saves the Old Folks: When the Old Folks Home was going to be torn down and they have to move to a more uglier place, it's Pippi to the rescue! She proves to everybody that you can save an old person's home by standing up to the counsel. Also as the old building begins tumbling down, she manages to save the lives of the Chairman's children.

My favorite episode of all from this DVD was the one where Pippi meets the thieves - the third one. She was so funny! In fact, all the stories will make you laugh all the way through. If you just can't get enough of Pippi's adventures, I also recommend these titles you should try: Captain Longstocking and Pippi Longstocking's - Pippi Goes to the Fair. Be sure to read my reviews on those titles. I hope to get feedback on them after you watch them.

Those 3 DVD's contain only a few of Pippi's adventures and they were also released in Canada. If ever Nelvana Limited - the company that brought Pippi Longstocking to life on the TV screen - makes an agreement with Shout Factory, Image Entertainment, or whatever Home Entertainment company in the United States to release her adventures here, I hope they'll release the COMPLETE animated series. That's right! All 26 episodes from the animated Pippi series should come out in a DVD box set some time in the future. That way, we can watch all of her adventures straight through. Her television series is like a continuing chapter book on the screen.
