"The Stand-In"--Witchiepoo captures Freddy, but Pufnstuf hatches a plot to rescue him. Puf's sister, Shirley, visits the island to make a movie, and Puf arranges to have the director cast the witch as a stand-in to distract her attention so Jimmy can sneak into the castle.
"The Golden Key"--Jimmy buys a map from Ludicrous Lion that shows the location of the Golden Key, which fits into the Golden Door, a secret way off Living Island. To divert Jimmy's escape, Witchiepoo captures Pufnstuf and holds him in her dungeon.
"The Birthday Party"--Witchiepoo invites herself to Jimmy's surprise birthday party and steals Freddy by rendering the partygoers helpless with laughing gas.
"The Box Kite Kaper"--Ludicrous Lion sponsors a kite-flying contest in his scheme to sell kites, giving Puf an idea. Jimmy and Freddy will attempt to fly away from Living Island in a giant box kite--until Witchiepoo gets wind of their scheme.

Classic Science Fiction, disturbing philosophy, & Cold War period piece.......2007-06-14
"Colossus The Forbin Project" is classic science fiction in the best sense of the term. It posits a somewhat plausible future development (from the perspective of 1970 and the height of the Cold War), and explores how humans deal with the consequences of their actions. The U.S. and the Soviet Union each, independently built super computers for the management and control of their nuclear missile arsenals. The U.S. computer, Colossus, finds out about the Soviet computer and uses a nuke to blackmail the politicians into letting it talk with the Soviet computer, Guardian. The computers decide they can run the show better than humans and take charge. Where it fails: They never discuss the submarine based missiles, the bombers, or the conventional non-nuclear forces.
Disturbing philosophy; The part where the President of the U.S. passes the buck, the responsibilities of his office regarding national defense, to a machine. If you can get past the idea that a politician would willing give away power, the idea that a political leader would so readily accept a "pure logic" approach to human interaction a.k.a. politics is pretty weird. More disturbing is that we still hear real proposals to make security and national defence a lock-step, cookbook process, rather than a rational one... The defeatist attitude displayed by Colossus' designer and most of the people around him in the middle of the movie is equally disturbing, but eventually, the key players bounce back despite what appear to be overwhelming odds. It's hard to say whether the ending was optomisitic or pessimistic, and it could be read wither way, but that is a comment on the period.
1970 was still early in the computer era, and the attitudes about computers were still evolving. In general, they were underestimated, but they were viewed with greater mistrust by the average guy than they are now. Also 1970 was the height of the Cold War, and the Viet Nam conflict was viewed as a sideshow or distractor by most of the Dept. of Defense. This movie does a passable job of conveying some of the fears and hopes of that simpler time.
In all, I liked it. It's not an action flick, and it is dated, but if you have an interest in the genre or the Cold War, this is worth an evening.
Typical Cold War Paranoia.......2007-06-11
I was a bit disappointed by the lack of imagination shown by this movie. Even given that it was witten and produced long before the rise of famous talking computers (2001 A Space Odysey, War Games, etc) Issac Asimov showed much more inspiration in his books of the same period.
As is usual for this type of movie, it is more a chess match between the good guys and the bad guys (or in this case the Bad Bot) than a football scrimmage. Fast paced action it is not. But the story line is just too limp to hold up even as a straight drama.
Serious disrespect for an under-rated film.......2007-05-18
Universal should really be ashamed. "Colossus: The Forbin Project" is one of the most under-rated science fiction films of the seventies, and I've seen hand made DVDs of amateur home movies presented with far greater care and respect. The tragedy begins right on the cover, where whatever art-school reject who made the cover proves that English is his/her second language by titling the film *Colossus "The Forbin" Project*. The apparently random use of quotes is duplicated in every instance of the title on the box.
I can understand a lack of "special features" for this movie, it was made at a time when the studios didn't obsessively document the making of a film. But this disc doesn't even have a menu screen, or the ability to select and navigate to a specific scene! That's not a *special* feature, it's a standard interface, and Universal just couldn't be bothered.
I too am disapointed in the pan-and-scan format, but I'd rather see that than no version at all. But to see such blatant disrespect for the movie, that Universal clearly wanted to get this out to market without spending a single dime to present it in even a *merely adequate* format, is almost worse then them not having released it at all.
Colussus - The Forbin Project.......2007-03-20
This telling movie gives a very good reason for being careful about how much power humans give computers to run their lives. Specifically, give an invulnerable powerful computer control of all the nukes, and what does the computer do???
This is an excellent movie, well worth the watching.
A cult classic still entertains.......2007-03-12
"A writer often writes better than he thinks." Thus D.H. Lawrence.
In this classic from the 70's, a solution to Turing's conjecture, a computer programmer programs better than he thinks.
A period piece, to be sure, but still quite entertaining.

Love the Bugaloos!.......2007-03-31
I loved this show when I was a little girl. I have many happy memories. How I enjoyed dancing in front of my mirror with my hair brush microphone, pretending that I was Joy, the pink Bugaloo! (admit it, if you were a girl, I bet you did that too!) If you enjoyed this as a child, you really should get it and share it with your own children or dare I say grandchildren. Saturday mornings use to be so special. Now with cable and 24 hour cartoon channels, video games and such, it is nice to have something to remember our childhoods by. Those of us raised in the 70's were given a much more innocent view of the world, one that our young minds could grasp. The Bugaloos were a part of that, as were all of the Sid and Marty Kroft shows.
Good times.......2007-01-19
I loved watching this program when I was little - these DVDs are crystal clear and so colorful it seems more vibrant than I remember. My two little ones ages 4 and 2 love it too!
Fun for young and old.......2007-01-14
This 3 disc box set is beautifully packaged and provides any fan of the Bugaloos/ S&M Krofft with every episode to emerge from Tranquillity forest. My 9 and 5 year old daughters were feeling the Christmas spirit when this appeared from `Santa'. Bonus material includes commentary from the actors and from the Kroffts, as well as a groovy photo gallery with candid shots of the gang and images of original Bugaloos merchandise.....very cool!!!
AWESOME BLAST FROM THE PAST........2007-01-09
This was one of my favorite shows as a kid, along with all of the other Sid and Marty Kroft shows. I had some old VHS tapes with one of these episodes on it, and my 3 year old daughter watched it and loved it, so I had to buy this. I enjoy watching the show as it brings back lots of memories of my childhood, and to have my daughter enjoy it now too is just a priceless thing.
Friends Indeed Should You Ever Need........2006-09-21
If you remember this show as a kid and never got it out of your mind after all these years, you just have to get it. Not only is it a wonderful trip down memory lane, but introducing little relatives to Tranquility Forest will also be a pleasure for you as you watch a new generation learn important lessons like being able to do anything if you set your mind to it and learning the value of true friends.
I missed this short-lived series for so many years after the rare reruns on UHF and TVLand, so this DVD set is a genuine treasure for both myself and anyone else who ever loved this great cleancut show. All 17 episodes are here in blaringly irresistible color, right along with the great songs and the four English teenage bugs who won our hearts as children. My favorite episode is Benita's Double Trouble, in which IQ dresses up as Benita Bizaare in an attempt to rescue Peter Platter, and does a great impersonation of her. I always had a crush on "Big John" so maybe I'm prejudiced, but Little John Philpot (Courage) was no slouch either, and I always wanted to be Joy (Caroline Ellis). This was one of Sid and Marty Krofft's best Saturday morning shows; magical, colorful, imaginative, and full of great music, it's a shame there weren't more episodes. Still, we have to be grateful for what we got. Let's also give credit to our great villain, the late Martha Raye whose outfits and makeup alone were just a trip in themselves, and Billy Barty who played the cute little neurotic Sparky Firefly.
There are some really great extras in this box set as well, including interviews with Big John, Little John, and Caroline Ellis, as well as a trivia game, a video jukebox, and commentary on some of the episodes. Unfortunately Wayne Laryea (Harmony) is not included in any of these, which is surprising since he and Caroline are still quite close. For more on the Bugaloos, check out the Tranquility Forest website. It is closed down right now, but you can still view all the great stuff on it, and maybe create enough interest to get the webmaster roused into action again.

Stanley Kramer's sprawling 1963 comedy about a search for buried treasure by at least a dozen people--all played by well-known entertainers of their day--is the kind of mass comedy that Hollywood hasn't made in many years. (Another example from around the same time is Blake Edwards's The Great Race.) After a number of strangers (including Milton Berle, Jonathan Winters, Sid Caesar, Phil Silvers, and others) witness a dying stranger (Jimmy Durante) identify the location of hidden money, a conflict-ridden hunt begins, watched over carefully by a suspicious cop (Spencer Tracy). The ensuing two and a half hours of mayhem has its ups and downs--some bits and performers are certainly funnier than others. But Kramer, who is better known for socially conscious, serious cinema (Guess Who's Coming to Dinner?), is in a mood for broad comic characterization, and some of his jokes are so intentionally obvious (Durante literally kicks a bucket when he dies), they'd have a place in Airplane! Watch for lots of cameo appearances, including Jerry Lewis (who had called Kramer and asked him why he hadn't been invited to participate). --Tom Keogh
Customer Reviews:
The mother of all comedic chase movies.......2007-05-15
The best chase comedy ever. Great cast, locations. It brings back memories of LA area in the fifties and sixties. One of my favorite comedies of all time.
An absolute "must have"!.......2007-05-13
Sure... it's dated; that's part of its charm. That said, it's one of the most madcap, zany comedies I've ever seen and is a "must have" for those of us old enough to appreciate the all-star cast of comic icons. Also, if you love old cars, the vehicles you'll see in this movie are worth the price of the DVD alone. Pure entertainment.
One of the best comedies.......2007-05-12
This is a very funny movie with an all star comedy cast. From Jimmy Durante "kicking the bucket" to the fire escape at the end, you'll laugh all the way through. The number of comedy stars in this movie are almost overwhelming. I personally think Jonathon Winters steals the movie.
abolute madness, loved it!!!.......2007-04-11
I first saw this movie with my father when i was a young boy for some reason it never left my mind, so out of shear curiosity i purchased this movie and fell in love with again.
I later found out that there are a few of us that love this movie so much that they have taken pictures of all those wonderful places and made a montage of before and after pictures showing the "Big W" and the back yard where it once stood.
In conclusion i just loved this movie. What more can i say Oh btw Amazon got the movies to me in less than a week, isn't that great.
One of the best comedies ever.......2007-03-30
Great cast help make this one of the funniest movies ever.

Amazon.com essential video
Anyone who thinks that Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus is a cutting-edge idea will be surprised by Designing Woman, a 1957 comedy starring Gregory Peck as a sports writer who falls madly in love with fashion designer Lauren Bacall. The twofold plot springs from a combination of Bacall's jealous efforts to learn the identity of Peck's previous lover and Peck's reckless exposé of a gangster who rigs boxing matches--but the movie's real enjoyment comes from its depiction of the athletic and arts worlds, each spun as a reflection of the male and female mind, respectively. While Peck and Bacall aren't noted for their comic chops, they acquit themselves respectably; Bacall has the more flamboyant role, but Peck draws low-key humor from his character's smug and blinkered perceptions. Designing Woman is directed by Vincente Minnelli (who also directed Meet Me in St. Louis, An American in Paris, and Gigi), so it's not surprising that the movie flares most to life during a few musical sequences--sneaked into the plot because Bacall has been commissioned to design a Broadway show, whose star just happens to be Peck's former paramour--culminating in a back-alley fight staged as a brawling ballet. --Bret Fetzer

Gary Cooper is one of my favorites. I like all his movies
Great service.......2005-09-20
Received item quickly and as promised. Received e-mail when it shipped which I really like. Would definitely use again.
Watch it for Dolores Gray & Jack Cole!.......2002-09-17
This movie might have been tangier with Hepburn & Tracy, but it has some nice moments. Minelli was a stylish director & it shows here. But the real treat for those of us who remember the great 50s musicals of Hollywood & Broadway was the presence of Dolores Gray and Jack Cole, sadly quite limited here. Ms. Gray in this film and in It's Always Fair Weather & Kismet could blow the roof off with her magnificent voice and presence. Jack Cole was one of the great dancers and choreographers of that era - a major influence on many choreographers who followed. This film is a special gem for preserving some fine examples of work by these two great performers.
The Original Sex and the City.......2002-06-29
In this film, Lauren Bacall hilariously portrays the quintessential high-society, high-fashion New Yorker. While on a trip to Beverly Hills, she meets and spontaneously marries the wonderful Gregory Peck - an unassuming sports writer who has no idea exactly what he's married into. Upon their return to New York, Peck's character discovers he's married the darling of New York society as his wife is a renowned designer (think Edith Head or Helen Rose). What ensues is hilarious encounters between her society coterie and his down-home group of blue-collar writers, setting up perfectly for the witty repartee between Bacall and Peck that defines the movie. The film culminates in a fashion show-boxing rumble, once again intersecting the seemingly divergent lives of Bacall and Peck.
"Designing Woman" is a wonderful movie that gives ample opportunity for the magnificent Gregory Peck to show off his comedic skills, however subtly. I saw this film after "Roman Holiday" and it cemented my image of Peck as a dashing and charming leading man who brings out the comedic best in his leading ladies. The chemistry between Bacall and Peck is evident throughout the movie and is a testament to the adage "Opposites do attract."
This is a complete, well-told story with a solid set of supporting characters. This movie is for all those people looking for that rare superb romantic comedy. The delightful depiction of New York society makes us nostalgic for the days before the Hilton sisters.
Tremendously funny.......2002-05-17
I love Gregory Peck. I love him as the serious, morally righteous attorney, the dashing naval captain, you name it. So, really, I should have known that he could pull off a comedic role as well. No one, I don't think, could have known how well he'd pull it off.
From his first hilarious hangover to the last "cross-eyed" fight scene, Peck is enchanting. He's completely believable in his role as a sports writer caught up in a new world of dresses and strange choreographers intruding on his poker night. And perhaps it's because he's not known as a comedic actor that he's all the more funny.
Designing Woman seems to be a little known film, but I'm certainly glad I found it because it kept me laughing, which brought others into the room to watch it with me. Now I just wish that Peck had made more movies like this.

The novelty backdrop of the 1962 Seattle World's Fair lends wonderful space-age scenery to this Elvis vehicle. The King co-stars with a pre-2001 Gary Lockwood as freelance pilots stranded in Seattle, where Elvis spends more time babysitting a little kid than panting after ostensible love interest Joan O'Brien. There's more plot than usual for a Presley picture, which in this case is not a good thing, and the songs are pallid, save "One Broken Heart for Sale." The real kick is the futuristic look of the World's Fair, as personified by Seattle's Space Needle and Monorail (both of which serve as backdrops for EP songs). Just three years out of the Army, Elvis's persona is thoroughly square and tame, ruffled only by the occasional comic double-take. And yes indeed, that is little Kurt Russell, future star of Elvis, kicking the King in the shins in a couple of scenes. --Robert Horton

Great classic. Great seller. Fast shipping and packaged very well.
One of Elvis Presley best film.......2005-11-07
This is definately one of Elvis Presley's best movie. I saw this in the cinema when I was a kid in 1963. Today I am still enjoying it even though I'm 55. Great songs, action and Elvis looking still good after all these years. He's still young and beautiful and still alive on the TV Screen. Long Live The King!
Elvis DVD !.......2005-09-15
My wife being a diehard Elvis fan loves the worlds fare dvd. She will watch it many times. Loved the quick service and price also!
It Happened At The World's Fair.......2005-07-27
Probably one of Elvis Presley's most obscure movies. This movie is very intertaining for the whole family, and it has some great scenes from the 1962 World's Fair. This is one of my favorite Elvis flicks. I had to pay almost $100.00 to get this movie on VHS less than 2 years ago. I am also a Kurt Russell fan, so seeing Kurt in his first small role with Elvis was a real thrill for me. This is truly one classic Elvis Presley movie everyone should see.

If you grew up in the '70s and glued yourself to the television every Saturday morning, bowl of cereal in hand, then you are most definitely familiar with the world of Sid & Marty Krofft. A live-action oasis in a desert of anemic animated programming, the shows of the messrs. Krofft were marked by outlandish fantasy plots, otherworldly monsters, horrible costumes, mediocre production values, zealous if cheesy acting, and numerous adolescent actors with which the young target audience could identify. And they were incredibly fun, captivating, and silly as all get-out. For half an hour, a Krofft show would take you to a magical world, where kids had power, heroes always triumphed, and bad guys were more funny than scary. If you were lucky, a musical number might dance your way, or some remedial special effects would shrink the heroes or send them flying. Ask any fans about the menacing dinosaurs of the pre-Jurassic Park adventure show Land of the Lost, the proto-feminist superheroes Electra-Woman and DynaGirl, or the fantasyland of H.R. Pufnstuf and friends, and they'll rhapsodize with a goofy smile on their faces. The lasting power of these shows is due more to nostalgia than quality; they're pricelessly over the top and campy, and the parade of familiar faces--such as Ruth Buzzi and Jim Nabors in The Lost Saucer--can bring back memories faster than an old home movie. This three-tape set features one episode each from the Krofft treasure trove, including the ever-popular H.R. Pufnstuf, the Brit-inspired The Bugaloos, Wonderbug the talking dune buggy, the odd coupling of Bigfoot and Wildboy, and much more. Grab your favorite cereal box, put on your pajamas, hunker down on the floor in front of the TV, and watch for six--count 'em, six--hours. --Mark Englehart

Saturdays are here again? Krofft Style!.......2005-04-08
Growing up in the 70's meant a lot of things. And being that Saturday morning cartoons were a big part of any kid's life, back then, you have to tip your hat to Sid & Marty Krofft. The Krofft SuperPower Hour With Elelctra Woman & Dynagirl was the epiphany of 70's childrens shows. Sure, PBS had their share with The Electric Company and Sesame Street and The New Zoo Review and Zoom, the Krofft bros. were the kings. They inundated us with a plethora of cool shows: Land Of The Lost, Sigmund, H.R. Puff'n'stuff, The Ghost Busters (with Larry Storch), Lidsville, Far Out Space Nuts . . . the list goes on. Now that we are adults, the fondness of our memories often paints these classics in angelic light, until we see them again. (Ever try to sit through an episode of The Love Boat now? What were we thinking?) I've got the First Season of The Land Of The Lost, and my kids love it. I sit and watch it with them and I giggle at the cheesy special effects and the overuse of Chroma-key and the particularly bad 70's acting, and still the nostalgia wins me over. These shows are great! Take them for what they are and no more: a humerous, genuine look back into your 70's childhood. Great! Sid and Marty rock! (Now I'm still trying to figure out The Dukes Of Hazzard??? And where the hell is Fantasy Island?)
Ahhh, sweet childhood memories!.......2005-02-05
As a child of the 70's, I was in heaven when I first heard about this box set. Armed with a bowl of Lucky Charms, I sat down and watched the WHOLE set in one sitting! The Kroft experience was as fun and trippy as I remember...must admit that the Richard Pryor show seems a little bit out of context with the others.
BIG CAVEAT for those who appreciate bang for the buck. The box set lists running time of 390 minutes, but note that this is a gross exaggeration. It is more likely HALF that time.
Questionable Choices From the Krofft Canon.......2005-01-26
If you are going to release a sample collection of the shows created by Sid and Marty Krofft, and you're only going to release a single episode per show, then I would hope that the shows chosen are among the best examples of what the the Krofft philosophy is about, or the most entertaining, or the most representative of the day, or maybe the first episode of the series.
But, somehow none of that is true for this collection of programs, a rare miss from the people at Rhino. There is not a single first episode in this group of 13 shows, and many of them are not even the average of the bunch, let alone the best.
Still, if you are in desperate need of a Wonderbug fix or need to see Lidsville right away, this will do the trick. Hopefully, like with other Krofft titles: H.R. Pufnstuf and Land Of The Lost, all episodes of all series will appear on DVD. For now, this will have to do.

Mel Brooks's 1981, three-part comedy--set in the Stone Age, the Roman Empire, and the French Revolution--is pure guilty pleasure. Narrated by Orson Welles and featuring a lot of famous faces in guest appearances (beyond the official cast), the film opens well with Sid Caesar playing a caveman, then moves along to the unlikely but somehow hilarious juxtaposition of Caesar's soldiers (the other Caesar, not Sid) with pot humor, and ends on a dumb-funny note in the French bloodbath. This is a take-it-or-leave-it movie, and it works best if you're in a take-it-or-leave-it mood. --Tom Keogh
Customer Reviews:
Not one of Mel Brook's best but still funny and entertaining........2007-06-08
An anthology of three generations through time from the dawn of man, to the time of Moses (Mel Brooks) to the Roman empire with the story of Julia Caesar (Dom DeLuise) and Christ (John Hurt) to the Spanish Inquisition and finally the French Revolution with King Louis XVI (Mel Brooks).
Highly entertaining and funny parody of history and the bible that has some of the charm of Mel Brooks but it's not as good as his "Young Frankenstein", "Blazing Saddles", "Spaceballs", "The Producers" or even "Robin Hood: Men In Tights". There is a good supporting cast such as Madeline Khan, Sid Caesar, Jackie Mason, Gregory Hines, Cloris Leachman, Harvey Korman and narrated by Orson Welles with Mel Brooks playing multiple roles, the real showstopper of the movie is the funny musical number called "The Spanish Inquisition".
The DVD has excellent picture and sound with one extra that is a trailer, still it's a must have if you like Mel Brooks.
Mel Brooks at his best!.......2007-05-27
I recently bought this film remembering the funny moments such as "run with mucus" and "ping pong" also "the Inquisition" and especally the "roman red" scene oh this was hilarious in its day. but alas, as we get older this just doesn't seem as funny as it used to. however, if you haven't seen this then you might want to have a needle and thread near you while watching it in case you split your sides because this is comedy at its old days best! from the dawn of man, through the roman empire, and even into space! this fantasy/comedy will delight all those age 17+ perhaps even a little younger as this might seem quite a bit more tame by todays standards. there are a few comments/scenes in this I really wouldn't want kids to hear/see other then that its a really funny film.
lost a star because some of the jokes may seem a bit dated. 4 stars
mel brooks should have made a sequel.
Still as funny as it was 20-something years ago.......2007-05-14
Mel Brooks has been one of the greats in comedy for decades--if you're looking for pure comic entertainment, don't miss this film! I only wish he had actually made [might make?] a "History of the World, Part II."
Funny, but I wouldn't watch it twice.......2007-05-10
I bought this not long ago thinking it would be one of those comical movies I could watch over and over when nothing good was on TV. It was amusing, but, I couldn't sit down and watch it again. After the first 35 minutes I was bored and found myself questioning whether or not I should continue.
It's one of those "Napoleon Dynamite" movies, you either love it or hate it. The very dry humor is focused on taking a trip through time as Mel acts out character parts of important people and times in History. Dressing up as a Trojan soldier, smoking a 7 foot doobie to get the other soldiers "too high" to chase them. It just wasn't very funny. It's yesterday's history lesson with today's sarcasm and slang.

More than 3,300 years ago, a boy king ruled over one of the most captivating empires the world would ever know. Following his mysterious death at the young age of 19, his name would be treacherously erased from history by his successors. The pharaoh's tomb would remain undisturbed, buried beneath the desert sands for centuries, holding secrets and treasures beyond the imagination. Secrets shrouded in mystery until the remarkable discovery of his tomb, in the famed Valley of the Kings, by archeologist Howard Carter in 1922.
Over 8 million people attended the "Tut" [King Tutankhamen or Tutankhamun] exhibition when it first toured the United States in the late 70's, making it the most attended museum tour in history and a spectacular new world tour began in 2004.
Now you can witness the marvelous treasure up close, as these stunning and priceless artifacts are revealed in extraordinary detail, and experience the mystery and romance surrounding the legendary King Tutankhamun.

This beautifully produced DVD edition is enhanced with updated features which include "The Remarkable Discovery", "The Mysterious Life and Death of Tutankhamen"; Enduring Questions About the King", "Tutankhamun Timeline", "Mapping the Tomb", and a Photo Gallery. Good documentary, but..........2005-08-27
This 1978 TV production gives an overview of the exhibition of treasures from the young pharao's tomb that was on a world tour at the time. The treasures are as impressive now as they were then. The picture quality, however, is no better than VHS. No attempt at restauration or enhancement seems to have been made. Even if your interest in King Tut is high you should think before buying.
