Don't be fooled by the title. Rather than 102, there are 4 reasons to like this sequel to the successful live-action remake of Disney's animated classic. There are the 101 spotted pooches, Glenn Close back in fine form as Cruella De Vil, Oddball--the spotless dalmation pup--and Waddlesworth, a parrot who thinks he's a rottweiler (and is voiced by Monty Python's Eric Idle). There are just as many reasons to be disappointed. Like most sequels, the story line is virtually a rewrite of the first, the secondary casting isn't as interesting, the dialogue merely serves to move the plot along, and the third act substitutes mean-spiritedness for comedy. After a period of rehabilitation, Cruella has returned to her old tricks. Once again, she simply must have a spotted coat and will go to any lengths to get ahold of the 102 dalmatians needed to make one with a hood. She sets her sights on the pups owned by her probation officer, Chloe (Alice Evans), and the owner of a local animal shelter, Kevin (Ioan Gruffudd of Horatio Hornblower). Her servant, Alonso (Tim McInnerny), and flamboyant furrier Monsieur Le Pelt (Gerard Depardieu, in one ridiculous outfit after another) are drafted to aid in her quest. It should come as no surprise that Chloe and Kevin fall in love, Oddball helps to save the day, and Cruella is defeated. Children should enjoy the animal high jinks, but adults are less likely to be enamored by this perfectly competent, but relatively charmless affair. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

Cute and worth watching, just don't expect too much.......2005-08-05
I didn't expect to like this movie, but it turned out to be entertaining and kind of cute, a solid 3 star offering - and it's definitely just right for the kids. Adults will find the plot transparently obvious and standardly Disney-predictable, but then it *is* supposed to be a kids' movie! If nothing else, grownups, get it to watch the usually serious Ioan Gruffudd (Horatio Hornblower and Fantastic Four) play tug-of-war with his dogs and get made fun of by his parrot, who was voiced by the incomparable Eric Idle.
Great movie........2005-06-10
My Grandma gave this movie to me and I really wanted to see it. I watched it and it was great. Cruella just gets released from jail and she tries to be nice because she dosen't want to go to jail again. Eventually she becomes mean and tries to kills the puppies once again. They end up at a cake factory and they cook Cruella. I enjoyed watching this movie. I think anyone should get it. A great film!

101 DALMATIANS, the original animated film, is one of my favorites from childhood that I still relish as an adult now. It had charm, wit, marvelous voicing and the indomitable Cruella DeVil. The live action feature which preceded this sequel was okay, thanks mainly to the dynamically overblown and convincing Glenn Close in the role of Cruella. This sequel to that live action version is mindless entertainment, with a few clever and cute scenes, but it is basically a rehash of the original plot, with again Ms. Close obviously having a jolly good time going bonkers on screen. Gerard Depardieu was embarrassing to watch as Le Pelt, and the human leads (Alice Evans, Ioan Grufford) are too cardboard to care about. Tim McInnerny as Cruella's manservant was very enjoyable in his role, and even though the macaw finally got too cutesy, he was fun for a while. Close's costumes and hairdos were splendid fun, and it is to her credit that this movie is as fun as it is, it should've been a bomb, but Close keeps it afloat.
Cute puppies. 16th april 2004........2004-04-16
I have never really seen the first propally, but i could imagine the second been that bit better. Great for anyone, really cute doggies, and ther are 102 of them on a adventure near to the end.

All i can say is this is a great movie(s). My kids love it. We also have 3 copies! If you dont have it you should get it
Dalmatian Serration (attempted).......2003-10-06
The saga of 101 spotted pups abducted by a omnivorous fashion maven after their pelts. In classic Disney fashion, exquisite animation, infectious music, endearing characters, and a gory storyline are melded into a truly hypnotic tale. This movie operates on a deep personal level for me as arch-villainess Cruella De Vil is almost certainly based upon my ex-wife. Not only is her lust for the epidermi of adorable animals eerily familiar, but the physical resemblance between the two is striking - particularly since my ex started going gray in the mid-1980's. My four-year-old twins (from a second marriage, their genes therefore untainted by Cruella's doppelganger) arrived at this conclusion with absolutely no prompting from me. The first time De Vil flounced onto the screen they both squealed "Daddy look - it's Auntie Sheatan!" (i.e. the name I encourage them to call her, Sheatan being Arabic for the man with the horns and the cape). Whatever your own personal experiences with De Vil or her look-alikes, you and your children will delight in this vengeful tale of her deserved comeuppance.
My kids loved this one........2003-07-03
Purchased at first oportunity, this was a heavily watched movie by kids when they were pre-kindergarten. They are older now, and still watch it occasionally.. the true test of a kids movie don't you think?!
A spiffy remake paired with it's competent sequel.......2001-06-25
I'm still not completely sold on the 'necessity' of the live-action 101 Dalmations, but in deference to millions of other Disney fans, I'll admit the first romp with Glenn Close was nicely done. Like anyone old enough to remember seeing the animated version as a kid, I had a few melancholy moments watching the remake, noticing bits that had been updated or altered to make the story more contempo.
Making Cruella (or more precisely, Glenn Close) the star of the remake suited Disney and moviegoers just fine, but I think her casting tips the balance of the story toward spectacle. The improved animation with CGI tips it even further, although it's hard to fault the production for using the best modern tech. I guess it's all part and parcel of trying to make a twentysomething film palatable to a modern audience. In my opinion, the original film has less visual dazzle but a lot more character as a whole.
As for buying this twofer instead of just one of the films...it's completely a matter of personal tastes. If Glenn Close was one of your biggest reasons for enjoying 101 Dalmations, the sequel is probably a must-view. The movie is almost entirely hers, as Cruella is given the lion's share of characterization and screen time. The supporting cast is affably anonymous, with the exception of Gerard Depardieu, who must have sold his soul to Disney to get stuck in such an apalling role. (Gratuitous humiliation: Gerard's Van Pelt winds up face-first in a toilet.) If you found yourself slightly disappointed by aspects of the 101 remake (like the fact that the dogs didn't talk any more), the sequel isn't likely to improve your opinion (even though you'll get a talking cockatiel with the voice of Monty Python's Terry Gilliam).
This DVD set has the usual Disney extras, at least for modern releases, so you can expect subtitles, some "making of" docu-footage and (drumroll please)... a garsh-honest DELETED SCENE from 102. (In it, Cruella is released from prison...but don't blink 'cause it's a short segment.) Put these bonuses together with the features and you have, IMO, a little four star bundle of entertainment to enjoy. (My personal rating for this package is about 3 stars, but I've adjusted my final rating to reflect the belief that most young kids will love these films in all their live-action spectacle.)
J
Good films... BUT...........2001-05-30
When I bought this 2-pack it said widescreen edition in the description (that has been changed now, although when you look at the pic it still says widescreen on both films). 101 Dalmatians was not as good as the first part, which I simply adore. So, if you want widescreen, buy the seperately, and maybe even skip the sequel.

This is a horible movie.......2004-02-13
I thought it would be a delightful flick with cute pupies running away from a nasty lady but it's not that way. old tired jokes get used agan agan and agan. BOTTOM LINE: it stinks
