Editorial Review:
Amazon.com
Dinosaurs come alive like never before in this costly computer-animated film from Disney. After a breathtaking opening (a dino egg is kidnapped), the film changes style; realistic dinosaurs are given human characteristics and voices. The kidnapped egg grows into an iguanodon named Aladar (voiced by D.B. Sweeney), who is raised by lemurs (shades of Tarzan) on a lush island void of other dinosaurs. When a meteorite destroys their island home in a thrilling sequence, the lemur family and Aladar become part of a dinosaur troop roaming the mainland deserts looking for the lush nesting grounds (shades of the fourth installment of the Land Before Time series and Fantasia). Disney's usual mix of modern language (one lemur calls himself "a love monkey") is present, as is its typical capital punishment law: anyone against our forward-thinking hero (or even disagreeing with him) ends up dead. Curiously, the meanies, a pair of carnotaurs following the group, are nameless and voiceless. This more realistic approach might have been a bigger wow, as in the BBC's Walking with Dinosaurs, which looked extraordinary with only a fraction of the budget. The complexity and scope of Dinosaur's visual scale is impressive, and group shots and a point-of-view angle are stunning. Rated PG for general intensity, the film should be a favorite for the 6- to 11-year-old set. --Doug Thomas

Description
Join the action-packed adventure of a group of dinosaurs overcoming enormous challenges through courage, loyalty, and hope in Disney's DINOSAUR, a special effects phenomenon! Set 65 million years ago, DINOSAUR tells the compelling story of an iguanodon named Aladar, who is separated from his own kind and raised by a clan of lemurs, including the wisecracking Zini and the compassionate Plio. When a devastating meteor shower plunges their world into chaos, Aladar and his family follow a herd of dinosaurs heading for the safety of the "nesting grounds." Along the way, Aladar befriends Baylene, the dignified, elderly brachiosaur with a take-no-prisoners attitude; Eema, the unstoppable styrachosaur; and Neera, a feisty fellow iguanodon. Together, they must stand strong amid food and water shortages, the threat of attacks by carnotaurs, and Aladar's run-ins with the herd's stubborn leader, Kron. As the trip becomes one pulse-quickening adventure after another, it also forges friendships that no hardship can destroy. A landmark in filmmaking technology, Disney's DINOSAUR is a breathtaking spectacle filled with adventure, fun, and life lessons that the whole family will love!

DINOSAUR COLLECTOR'S EDITION IS A RIP OFF..........2007-06-30
The movie is fine, but the 2-disc Collector's Set is a scam. The second disc is garbage and not worth the extra money. The second disc is difficult to navigate and is loaded with useless garbage. Where are the featurettes? If you like the movie, just buy the regular single disc version and avoid the 2-disc rip-off.
Very well done dinosaur movie.......2007-04-23
This movie was great to watch on an afternoon. I liked this movie because it was a feel good movie that had a lot of laughs built into it. The animation was great and the voices of the actors fit into character very well. I also liked the story line of the movie. Bravo to Disney for making such a great movie for everyone!!!!
A splendid dinosaur movie.......2007-04-20
If you kids love dinosaur movies, and love realism...this is it. The animation is spectacular, and the story is sweet and teaches compassion and courage. Disney has done it again...in an unexpected way. Very different from their other offerings, but one of their best.
Breathtaking, thrilling yet polarizing.......2007-03-10
I don't think Disney made an absolutely terrible film (keep in mind I haven't seen Home on the Range or Brother Bear) so we have Dinosaur which many people praise for the animation while it mainly gets a "meh, it was okay" response when it comes down to the actual film itself. Got to give credit to them for at least attending to do something different and not as common as they were starting to do. It's one of those kind of films where you admire the effort and the passion there was but it's just unfortunate other things got lost in the shuffle.
Aladar was a lucky dinosaur: through a series of strange misadventures while he's still an egg, he eventually lands on Lemur Island and befriends the community there. He later grows up and feels a bit alone since there's none of his kind around. One day, a massive meteorite hits the ocean causing the group to vacate the island and they end up stumbling upon a herd of many species searching for the "Nesting Grounds", a sort-of haven for dinosaurs. But then have stalking raptors, T-Rexes, the harsh weather as well as a dinosaur named Kron who is basically the harsh bully who pushes everyone forward and leaves those behind that are too slow.
Since it's obviously going to be the first thing you notice, I might as well start with it first. Using real backgrounds and putting over it CG-characters, this is one gorgeous film. Sometimes it doesn't work such as characters that feel more like Xbox 360 characters and the interaction between real backgrounds and the characters are too noticeable but when they're on it's great. While they're mainly branded the "kid movie studios", when Disney turns up the mature meter, they're unbelievably effective. The centerpiece is the meteor impact which is not only stunning and intense but I love how it's edited, especially the pre-impact part. Ranks with the wildebeest stampede and the avalanche from the Lion King and Mulan as the best action scenes in a Disney film.
How's the rest? Not that good. For one it feels too cliche. You have the main hero who has to save everybody, the anti-everything good bad guy, the love interest who is denied the chance (in this case, she's Kron's sister) and then we have the issue of talking dinos. While this is a photo-realistic looking film which warrants hyper-realism, meaning no talking, it is Disney after all and what kid would sit still to basically watch dinosaurs do stuff? Then we have the issue that the characters themselves are not that interesting. No one really stands out and is that memorable. The only one I even remember chuckling at was Earl, this puppy-acting dino who is quite amusing.
Ultimately, this is one of Disney's more interesting failures. While it did generate a profit and the animation is really great, it's one of those missed opportunities that's hard to shake off.
Dinosaur was fabulous!.......2007-03-09
We all enjoyed seeing this and will watch it many times. Thank you.

Like his free-spirited cousin Dora, the Explorer, eight-year old animated character Diego Marquez makes his film debut, an animal rescue extravaganza based on Nick Jr.'s show, Go, Diego, Go!. The preschool program focuses on animal exploration and discovery while incorporating Latin American culture, Spanish vocabulary, and plenty of audience participation. Based on the sweeping success of the series, The Great Dinosaur Rescue applies the same winsome elements to an original storyline that starts in a dinosaur museum with some fun facts about the fascinating reptiles. When Diego, Dora, and Baby Jaguar hear Alicia tell a story about a Maiasaura who got separated from her family, they know it's time for a rescue. With a little help from viewers, the team jumps back in time to the age of the dinosaurs to find Maia and return her safely to Egg Island. But the journey has some obstacles to overcome--including muddy pits, rocky cliffs, and a rumbling volcano--which require teamwork, cool gadgetry, and Diego's unique ability to communicate with animals. Preschoolers are invited to interact with the story as Diego rouses them--often in Spanish--to "Stand up!" and stretch, stomp, and jump. Integrating repetition, music, and movement, the film (like the series), is a standout for teaching problem-solving skills along with an appreciation of the animal kingdom. The 50-minute VHS ends with a computer-like game offering a question/answer review of the story; the 92-minute DVD includes two bonus episodes, "Diego Saves Baby Humpback Whale" and "Rescue The Red-Eyed Tree Frogs." (Ages 3 to 5) --Lynn Gibson

This DVD is worth ever penny. My two sons love to watch this on road trips. Not only do my kids like Diego, but they love dinosaurs. If your kids like Diego this is the video for them!!
Diego is great.......2007-05-07
I purchased this DVD based on other peoples' recommendations here on Amazon. My granddaughter absolutely loved it. (She is 31 months old.) She is really fascinated with Dinosaurs and I didn't even know that she had just been introduced to Diego. I can highly recommend it.
Interactive and Educational.......2007-04-18
My 2 year old son is enjoying this interactive dvd. The content prompts the toddler to respond via words and actions rather than just passively watching the visual content. It also introduces concepts like helping others in trouble, working in a group, solving problem and various others. I am happy to see my son enjoying this dvd.
Big Hit!.......2007-03-21
My grandson is a big Diego fan! He love's this show. Entertaining for him and grandma too! Don't miss this one!
Very Enjoyable!!.......2007-02-25
My 2 year daughter absolutely love Diego. At first she was into Dora but she loves and dances to all the Diego songs and I find myself singing along with her at times. So this disc is definitely a thumbs up.

finally.......2007-07-03
finally something that caputers just how good they are live. i love this dvd.
If you're considering buying, go for it.......2007-06-03
I'm not a huge Dinosaur Jr. fan, but living in Boston I saw them a few times in the 1980s, and in 2005 at one of the shows on this DVD, and I certainly appreciate their unique, powerful live sound. As concert DVDs go, this is just about as perfect as you could hope. The track list is all vintage classics, and the band played better on these 2005 shows than in the old days -- J. Mascis' guitar playing is much more confident, and loud as ever, and drummer Murph is as fluid as in the old days, often not the case with drummers when old bands reunite.
The shows are shot well, with a good sound mix and plenty of guitar and the right vocal level for Dinosaur Jr. (I listened in 2.0.) Almost all of this set comes from the smallish basement club, the Middle East, and a final few tracks from NYC's midsize rock club Irving Plaza. There are also some neat, subtle director's touches, like the between-encore backstage shot where the band just stands there, seemingly wondering if they've waited long enough yet. But mostly you just watch the band on stage. The DVD's cover shot of Mascis as "Cousin It" is a still from this set, and it's a good representation of the program.
I haven't watched the bonus features yet, but the main show alone is worth picking up if you're interested in this.
Loud and raw...as you would expect!.......2007-06-02
This dvd is pretty great and is an interesting, fairly well shot club show. The sound mix is solid although I would have preferred a bit more kick drum. The band is definitely tighter than when I saw them in the 80's! This is shot on their first reunion tour leg,I think. The extras are nice but it would have been cool to have the full World Cafe bonus performances. Anybody expecting a slick, super professional DVD will be put off by the slightly low-fi quality of the interviews and bonus footage although the people interviewed really seem to express what makes Dino Jr. such a special band. A Dinosaur Jr. fan knows what to expect and they'll get it in this raw and rocking DVD.

To me,Some of the BEST DVD transfers are those put out by DISNEY,Warner & SONY/COLUMBIA-TRISTAR.and "DINOSAUR",especially released in the new Blu-ray High Definition Format - The Picture Quality is STUNNING!!! You see every detail - the scales of the dinosaurs, the hairs of the monkeys, ect. If you like this movie, you'll sure want to purchase it on BLU-RAY!!!
Blu Ray Review - Blurry Transfer.......2006-12-29
Disappointing Disney release, wasn't nearly as sharp as I would have liked to have seen it, especially when compared to say King Kong HD-DVD. Lots of blur and not much detail. If you have this on DVD already, don't bother.

A landmark in filmmaking technology, DINOSAUR's theatrical quality is fully captured in this DVD, which features a digital-to-digital transfer that ensures the best possible picture and sound quality!

Thank you.

Good in many ways.......2006-12-16
This is pretty good. Walking with Dinosaurs may have very good information, but it lacks some important details the Dinosaur Planet has aded, namely feathery dinosaurs and a wider range- various little-known dinosaurs are covered here. The graphics do look a bit more computer-y than WWD.
Dinosaur Planet.......2006-01-25
This is a REALLY great DVD, a show with four stories about four dinosaurs. The best part is that it is an educational story, not a normal documentry which some childeren may not be interested in.
1. White Tips' Journey:
A female Velociraptors' pack is killed, and must find another one.
Featured dinosaurs and mammals: Velociraptor, Prenocephale, Protoceratops, Oviraptor, Shuvuia and Deltaperidion
2. Pods' Travels:

Featured dinosaurs, plesiosaurs and crocodiles: Pyrorptor, Titanosaurus, Iguanodon, Tarasctosaurus, Plesiosaurus, Ichthyornis, Apodoxsuchus and Troodon
3. Little Dass' Hunt:
A young male Daspletosaurus keeps ruining his familys' hunting expiditions. Meanwhile, a volcano threatens in the distance.
Featured dinosaurs and pterosaurs: Orodromeus, Quetzalcoatlus, Troodon, Daspletosaurus, Maiasaura and Einiosaurus
4. Alphas' Egg:
Follow a female Saltasaurus as she grows.
Featured dinosaurs and crocodiles: Saltasaurus, Aucasaurus, Carcharodontosaurus, Alvarezsaurus and Notosuchus
A note to sensitive parents: there ARE scenes with blood, dead bodies, deaths, predatation etc. If you are sensitive about this, I don't reccomend it for you.
Dinosaur "Screechfest" with a really bad script.......2005-09-01
As a huge fan of Walking with Dinosaurs, I had high hopes that this series would recover the 'genre' from the stumble of When Dinosaurs Roamed America. I was sadly disappointed.
About 50% of the 'script' consists of dinosaurs shrieking or roaring at each other. It gets on your nerves after a while, and doesn't really add any drama. Add Christian Slater's rather noxious narration, which overly anthropomorphizes the dinosaurs, and the result alternates between boring and annoying.
The effects are less the spectacular, and might have been ok a few years ago, but are actually a step back from Walking With Dinosaurs.
The fauna on display seem, well, rather thin. Compare the BBC's Chased By Dinosaurs, which also covers Cretaceous Mongolia and Argentina. There are at least twice as many animals depicted in Chased, for much less pointless screeching, and Nigel Marvin (while not Kenneth Branagh) has more gravitas than Slater.
Finally, I CAN'T STAND the paleontologist cut-ins. Not only do they scrounge up a no-name (Discovery can't get Bob Bakker?) scientist, but it just isn't necessary. If the information is SO necessary, why can't it be worked into the narrative?
Dino Worlds.......2005-08-20
I LIKED WWD BETTER BECAUSE IT GOES THREW ALL THE PERIODS. BUT I LIKE THE WAY DP NAMES THE DINOSAURS.
Great Dinosaur stoies.......2005-07-08
This is a very fascinating program. The stories take you back
to a time long ago. My grandson seen this program on the Discovery channel and fell in love with dinosaurs. So I purchased this for him and I watch it also.

My son can't get enough of this DVD!.......2006-08-22
I borrowed this DVD from the library because my 4 year old son is named Danny and he loves dinosaurs. He has watched it continuously for the past few days, and now I find I'd better buy it. The title story isn't his favorite, though. He loves the Island of the Scog, which is a cute little story with a surprise ending. He also enjoys Stanley and the Dinosaur, which I find quite frightening, with scary-looking cavemen and a scary-sounding narrator. But it has a good message.

Customer Reviews:
it's almost like being there.......2007-07-01
this dvd/cd combo from charlotte martin is worth it! i have the first release of the concert and the extras were enough to buy the rerelease. charlotte is so extremely expressive in her music when she is playing live. it is harder to hear this expression in her records, but it shows through with genuine expression in the live dvd recording. i feel like i'm at the concert, which i was, when i watch the dvd. it is a great way for people who have never seen charlotte live to meet her as a true performer. i'd highly recomend this to any charmar fan, and definently to people who can't make it to her live concerts. Char you rocked this one!!
Amazing Live Show.......2007-06-26
I love this DVD. The show is amazing, obviously, because it's Charlotte Martin. It's great for any fans who have not seen her live, really giving you a front-row-seat feel. It's great for those who have seen her live because you get to experience it over and over. Her delivery is great and her vocals are dead on. Her soaring vocals on "Veins" will give you goosebumps, her heartfelt performance of "Every Time It Rains" will make you well-up, and her passion in "Darkest Hour" will remind you why you love her so much.
The "Stromata" music video is a nice plus, but most fans have probably already downloaded that off iTunes--however, the quality is much better on the DVD. My favorite part of the DVD is the commentary, because it's very funny and conversational. It's just fun to listen to.
A downside of the DVD is the production quality. The camera work is not very good and shaky in some songs, and the editing could have been better. Also the setlist could have been better, especially considering she played some gems like "wild horses" and "snowflake" for the taping. It would have been great to see those show up on the DVD.
But my favorite part of this whole package is the bonus b-sides disc. I think the b-sides on the CD are incredible, and i actually listen to this disc more than I listen to Stromata. "Grave Clothes" is very sweet and soft, with impressive lyrics, "Overcome" is very empowering, and honestly it's just nice to hear some acoustic piano songs again. "Stromata" was a good experimental venture but i like charlotte best at the piano. "Revival" is one of her best songs, however her delivery on the disc is a little tamed down, I wanted to hear more fire! My favorite is actually "Four Walls (Funeral Version)." There's just something about that version that is infectious. I never get sick of it, or the original.
For any charlotte fan this is a must. If you don't have it, get it!
Complex Entracing Perfection!.......2007-04-11
Charlotte's music is complex, layered, almost mesmerizing, yet extraordinarily listenable, and always seems fresh. Her live performance on this DVD is nothing short of phenomenal, because she single-handedly recreates the intertwined piano, accompaniment and vocals. I found myself wishing for more shots of her masterful keyboard playing and somewhat less hyperactive editing, but they don't detract from the glorious sound of this DVD.
The accompanying CD, which wasn't included in the original DVD release, is called "Something Like a B-Side." There are eight songs, and they're all considerably better than B-sides! All of the tracks seem more open and less electronicly layered than the cuts on Stromata. If you like Charlotte's voice and piano playing, you'll like these. "Genesis" begins with some very nice layered harmonies. "Overcome" is a track she could probably reproduce live, one hand on the piano and one on a synth, but it sounds slickly produced. My favorite track is an alternate version of "Four Walls," which has an infectious electronic rhythm track, and is the down tempo version heard at some of her concerts.
Frankly, either the CD or the DVD alone is worth the price of admission. Together, they're a steal.

Description
In ancient times, dinosaurs ruled the Earth. Yet today, all thats left are fossilized remains. Or is it? Are we sure all the dinosaurs are gone? If so, what killed them? Was it the impact of a giant asteroid? A rash of extreme volcanic activity that plunged the Earth into darkness and cold? These are the preferred scientific theories to explain the disappearance of the dinosaurs, but the fossil record may point to a different kind of disaster. But could it be they are not gone forever? And is it possible that man and dinosaurs lived on planet Earth together? Are dinosaurs still alive today in remote parts of the world? The answers may surprise you.
Customer Reviews:
Not what it pretends to be!!!.......2007-06-09
Buyers thinking that this is a lesson in natural history and evolution for their kids need to be aware that this video puts forward alternative theories to evolution, linking events in the geological record to Biblical events. While the word "creationist" is never uttered, some supposedly legitimate theories are proposed alongside well established ones. Some of these I have never heard of in all of my years of undergraduate, medical, and postgraduate education in the sciences, and yet they are presented as well accepted alternative hypotheses to the extinction of the dinosaur. I believe the title and packaging are misleading, and there is a lapse in truth in advertising. Amazon should post a disclaimer, IMHO.
science? religion? creationism?.......2006-01-27
This video has the feel of Discovery Channel but by the end they are making more and more bible references. This is, to a large extent, an argument that dinosaurs may have been wiped out in "noah's flood" and evolution may not be as sturdy science as we may have believed.
It is not bad quality but some of the stuff that appears to be straight science may get logged in your mind with stuff you learn from Discovery Channel and you might start talking in scientific company about discoveries of dino-tracks together with human tracks. This looks like science but will remind you of hunts for big-foot and proofs of the bible (which this attempts to be).
The greatest value here is showing my son an example of when he should be skeptical of everything he reads and sees. 2 stars instead of 1 due to this unexpected benefit.
You will be sorry if you buy this item.......2005-12-31
The biggest group of crackpots since time began have all gotten together to have you swallow the most wacko theories in history. If you seriously believe that mankind walked on earth at the same time as dinosaurs and all of this happened a very short time of just 5000 years ago this is the show for you! But don't expect to find much of anything about dinosaurs in this DVD. The cover on this DVD is about the last you will see of them. But do expect a group of crazed right wing extremists to quote endless verses from the Bible including Genesis and Job as proof that Darwin is wrong. Continental drift happened very fast according to this movie. Perhaps it should be renamed continental dash. This DVD proposes they smashed into each other at 45 mph. And Noah's flood really did kill off the dinosaurs. This whole DVD could be best described as right wing political propaganda you buy rather than get for free. I have to say that getting it all was an enormous disappointment for me. I was expecting to learn something about dinosaurs. What I got is someone sell me their interpretation of the Bible. I hope they get their Scope's monkey trial back again. Maybe then they will get the idea of who the monkeys are? You would be best to forget owning this. ... Unless of course you wanna' own mine?
