Kids will enjoy this half-hour Sesame Street video, in which the whole gang takes a piano up to the roof and sings some of their favorite songs. But they are frequently interrupted by workmen Biff and Sully, who keep tuning in songs on their TV (only to knock the antenna out of whack). The blend of people and puppets is charming, and the bits culled from the TV show add to the fun. A pair of highlights: Ernie sitting in his bathtub singing the big hit, "Rubber Ducky," and Bert (in a magical bit of puppetry) dancing and singing "Doing the Pigeon." --Marshall Fine

Yes, Virginia, there was a Sesame Street before the Age of Elmo. This 1993 collection highlights the role of music in the long-running series from Children's Television Workshop, and reminds us that such Jim Henson creations as Big Bird, Oscar the Grouch, Cookie Monster, and Ernie and Bert were once part of a true ensemble of Muppet superstars. Nothing against Elmo, of course: kids adore him and he makes enough appearances in this anthology (including the show-stopping "Happy Tappin' with Elmo") to keep today's tykes happy. Also included is Ernie's classic "Rubber Duckie" (really, who doesn't know the words to that?), Oscar's anthemic "I Love Trash," you-know-who's "C Is for Cookie," and Big Bird's Big Finale, a rendition of "Sing" that includes the entire cast. There are 27 tunes in all, and they don't all involve singing puppets: Ladysmith Black Mambazo turns up for one track, and the "Sesame Street Jam Session" includes some actual playing of instruments. --Tom Keogh

Captivates my daughter - and makes me laugh!.......2007-06-13
I think this collection is wonderful - my daughter LOVES watching it - she is captivated when it's on. I have tried other shows, like baby einstein, Barney, disney, and so on - but nothing gets her attention the way Sesame Street does. I love it because it gives me a few minutes a day to do things around the house - like fold laundry, make bottles, do dishes, pay bills etc, etc. A MUST have, in my opinion!
My toddler loves this video........2007-05-25
My toddler absolutely loves this video - from beginning to end, he's usually watching with a smile or playing and watching at the same time. Either way, the songs are a huge hit with him. And from a parent's perspective, plenty of stuff I remember enjoying as a child! (My hubby, too.) It's a good mix of songs, enjoyable to watch even as an adult. Definitely a video worth having.
Best Sesame yet.......2007-04-02
I try to limit the amount of television my 18 month old watches. I have been less impressed with many of the Sesame Street videos, but this one is FABULOUS! Educational, music filled, cultural, and fun! I couldnt recommend this DVD more for 'real' Sesame fans. And most importantly it isnt over run by the Elmo craze.
25th Birthday Musical Celebration.......2007-03-09
My 16 month old grandaughter LOVES this one, She dances through the hour long tape. She will watch this one over and over and over ect.
Entertaining.......2007-03-09
Our daughter is addicted to Elmo's World, so when I saw this DVD, I ordered it with the hopes that it would entertain her and keep us from going Elmo crazy. She loves this DVD and we all watch it together. The songs are very catchy and it keeps her attention for the times we need five minutes

Basically, this is a collection of songs from 30 years of Sesame Street, in which sweet Elmo and his Muppet pals are joined by David Alan Grier, Jon Stewart, Gloria Estefan, the Fugees, Shawn Colvin, and the Mighty Mighty Bosstones. Grier (of the comically sour face) and Stewart (of the ironic smile) provide some funny stuff, and the Muppets share songs with the musical guests. This nonstop revue is a blast for parents as well as little ones. --Tom Keogh
Customer Reviews:
Absolutely Love This One!.......2007-03-27
The music is addictive, we've had this DVD for 9 months or so now and it's one my daughter asks for by name. I've just ordered the CD for the car because she's always singing songs from it! We love the Shawn Colvin version of "Don't Want to Live on the Moon" it's very sweet and we sing it a lot together!
Not for everyone, but very well done!.......2006-12-29
Pros:
1. Some stand-out performances by some stars that only Sesame Street could get to sing with a puppet. Like them or not, En Vogue does a beautiful video about monsters. Rosie O'Donnell does a terrific duet with Elmo, teaching that singing isn't about "vocal talent" but presense and fun. Jon Stewart and David Alan Grier are both unexpected naturals on a Muppets'stage and showed serious kid appeal. And The Fugees are so good in this, their two minutes are alone worth keeping the movie for.
2. Nice, basic messages for kids and adults to learn: *problem-solving, *how to work together, *to never underestimate the contributions of the smallest (a lesson brought in several times) and *that music is for everyone, not just famous singers.
3. Some of the songs are very catchy. My 3 yr old is singing Gloria Estefan's Mambo song around the house after hearing it maybe 4 times.
Cons:
1. The title suggests it stars Elmo, which it doesn't.
2. Some of the artists are weak here, while others rock the house. I hoped for a lot better from the Mighty Mighty Bosstones.
3. Weak storyline will irritate those who gravitate to plot/drama (though it won't bother those who want the music and jokes.)
4. Lots of the performers were terribly "underutilized," which will disappoint adults who know what those folks are capable of. Tyra Banks is great with kids, but you can't tell from her twenty seconds in this movie. Chris Rock performs like he's literally reading the script for the first time.
5. The best jokes here are the ones only the adults will get, even though Sesame Street usually does a great job of making great "preschoolers-will-get-this" jokes.
Bottom line: Elmo-a-holics may feel "baited and switched" but general Sesame Street fans and music lovers will enjoy this one. This definitely could have been better but my son + I will be watching this a lot and loving it.
Lastingly great........2006-11-30
I bought this for my grandson 14 years ago and it went along with 6 other grandkids. The trick is not to give it to them too early. That part didn't bother any of my kids , they didn't seem to even wonder about Elmo. But after all these years I myself am not sick of it and believe me a lot of them have had to go. The reason I am even writing this today is that I getting another one because one of my boys is autistic and he STILL watches it.He loves Jon Stewart as do I and I have been trying to find a cd that has the same Kenny Loggins songs as in Elmopalooza. Can anyone help there? Anyway it is a great investment if nothing else - after children there are grandchildren and then, oh boy, great grandchildren. If that's necessary - actually I've never met anyone any age that didn't think it hilarious.
Elmopalooza.......2006-11-10
My daughter enjoys this DVD. It's not so annoying on the grate-on-your-last-nerve scale.
my 11 month old son loves this!.......2006-04-24
okay so hubby and i bought a vcd of this when our son was less than a month old thinking it'd be fun to watch when he got older. when we previewed it, we found it boring for a baby. but we already bought it and couldn't exchange it for something else.
fast forward several months later. my son was 8 months old when his nanny started playing this whenever she has something else to do. and beleive it or not, my son just loved it! at first there were particular songs he loved like "Just Happy to Be Me" and "I Don't Want to Live on the Moon". After several repetitions he now loves this video and is willing to watch it several times a day if we let him. he just sits entranced in front of the tv whenever we play this and he is very familiar with the songs. In fact we are already in our second vcd since the first one got scratched and doesn't play anymore. i also sing some of the songs to calm him down when he's not in the mood. overall a very good buy!

Customer Reviews:
My son loves this thing.......2007-02-17
This is a great classic video. It dates from the mid nineteen-eighties with human characters I remember from when I was a kid, but it holds up wonderfully. It could be appreciated by fans of the classic show. The best clip is probably the one of Madeline Kahn and Grover singing the "Echo song". It also includes Olivia and Linda doing a singing and signing rendition of "Sing", the tolerance anthem "My Name is You", the original "Rubber Duckie" and "Doin' the Pigeon" and finally a fun version of "What's the Name of that Song" as well as some sing along songs with the group at the piano.
The best thing is that my 19 month old enjoys it so much as well. He stands in front of the tv and tries his best to sing with Big Bird and the rest. Very cute.
For parents of small kids who like their videos repeated over and over again, this one is some fun for its nostalgia value and will be enjoyed by the kids as well.
Love the episode- hate the ad.......2006-06-19
My kids like this one, because it has lots of music, but not being able to skip or fast forward through the ad at the beginning of teh DVD is a real turn-off. My kids do not care that the purchsase of this video supports Sesmae Street- and neither do I anymore. I have stopped purchasing Sesame Street DVDs because of the blocking of fast forward during the initial ad. Its just too annoying.
you need this video.......2005-02-17
Our 18 month old son loves loves loves this video. He even signs "Sing" when he wants to play it. It's just a great all around sing (and sign) along without a lot of conversation. Get it!
Simple, old-fashioned fun........2005-02-07
There's not much plot to get in the way of the story: a batch of grownups and kids, and a few muppets, gather around a piano on the roof and sing songs. The efforts of Biff and Sully to fix a TV antenna allow for a number of classics from the show, such as "Rubber Ducky," "Doin' the Pigeon," and Grover singing "Be My Echo" with Madeline Kahn. It's charming, unpretentious fun to sing along with your kids. As other reviewers have noted, this one goes way back. How far back? If you remember David, you may be either pleased or a little nostalgic to see him singing with the gang; it looks like it was pretty close to the end of his years on the show.
Not enough muppets.......2005-01-13
This dvd was a bit of a disappointment. From the cover (showing Big Bird), I expected so see a lot more muppets than are on this dvd. It's almost entirely a group of PEOPLE from the neighborhood sitting around a piano and singing.
My son is very young (4 1/2 mos.) and he gets interested in the muppets, not so much the people - especially when the people aren't really "doing" anything but standing around singing.
He much prefers the Sesame Street "Hoot and Holler" dvd, which is a lot of muppet animals singing songs and doing other things. That one keeps his attention and makes him smile!
The other frustration with all of the Sesame Street dvd's is that, before you can select "play" or chapters, etc., they show an "ad" for the sesame street program that you cannot skip over or fast forward. So you have to watch it every single time, on every dvd, and wait for it to finish before you can actually push the button to start the actual play. Also, the function for selecting songs (chapters) only shows the first half of the dvd unless you fast forward to the middle first.

Bubblehead waiter Elmo tires to serve food at Planet Storybook. While hobnobbing with Little Miss Muffet and others, he introduces several Sesame Street songs, including "Cereal Girl" (a satire of "Material Girl") and "The Most Important Meal of the Day." Best bit is Cookie Monster singing about things other than cookies that are good for you. --Doug Thomas
Customer Reviews:
let's eat.......2007-02-13
As they say in espanol ESTUPENDO. Great songs fabulous presentation and it works. Couldn't rate it highly enough. Lo Mejor The other titles I have purchased were also of a high standard and most enjoyable.
It's OK..........2005-09-29
There's some parts of the video that is really entertaining, but also had a lot of filler stuff that didn't really get my daughter's attention. For the most part, I'd say this one is OK.
Excellent Sesame Street - Grover - Video.......2005-04-09
As a mom, this is one of my favorite Sesame Street videos and my two-year-old also loves it. Grover is my favorite character and I bought the video because Grover is featured on the cover. I love Grover's interactions with the "blue man" ...they are so funny. Along with Grover and the "blue man", there are great songs and videos of children eating and playing. Some of our favorites are... "blueberry mouths" and "cereal girl" . Excellent video!!
VERY FUNNY FOR KIDS AND GROWNUPS ALIKE.......2003-10-24
Grover is at his best in this hysterical video. With his typical humor, he teaches us how to eat more wisely. There are alot of great inside jokes for the parents, too. The "Planet Storybook" restaurant he works on is a funny spoof of "Planet Hollywood", complete with memorabelia (from stories, of course).
My 2 1/2 year old loves this video, and has learned alot from it. I bought it for her because she's a picky eater. I think it has helped alot -- she's more willing to try new foods now (not that she always finishes them!)
I highly reccommend this video! Buy it for yourself, even if you don't have a picky eater in your house! It's that funny!
Planet Storybook Awaits!.......2003-02-14
Remeber Grover the Waiter and his chubby blue customer? This video is a great chance to visit them again - Grover has "worked his way up in the food business" to become a Planet Storybook (read Hollywood) waiter and change the unhealthy eating habits of his favorite customer. Along the way are lots of gags about storybook characters (Grover trips over Jack Be Nimble's candlestick, for instance - and the restaurant is decorated with memorobilia like Cinderella's glass slipper) Very cute.
I think I'm not cool enough to enjoy the song clips, but if you and your kids enjoy spoofs, you'll like them: "Cereal Girl," Cookie monster rapping about "Healthy Food," and bologna, cheese, and bread singing "Telly's Lunch" (Brady Bunch Theme) I liked "Blueberry Mouth," a Leon Redbone style (?) tune about blueberry picking.
I don't know that it made any difference in eating behavior with my son, but he's a pretty good eater anyway. He enjoyed it, though: particularly the singing broccholi.

The Count is my 3 year old son's favorite character on Sesame Street and I was hoping to get a dvd with more of him in it. He was the host, but there were not any of his skits in it :-(
Great Fun.......2005-10-15
This DVD is so much fun. It stars the beloved Sesame Street character including the Count, of course. But beyond just counting, the video is fun. Funny jokes, music and colors...It's a lof of fun and my kid loves it. Parents: you children will learn their number with this DVD before they even realize they are learning and not just watching some video.
Perfect for the adult looking to relive their childhood!.......2005-10-11
As a 20-something looking for a little nostalgia, this video brings back my Sesame Street memories from the 80s. I originally had it on video, and was delighted to see it was later released on DVD. A must have for any adult Sesame Street collector/fan!

Elmo's immature days.......2005-11-13
My 23 month old is now settling into this one. I bought it becasue I figured there'd be a lot of ELMO for her and there is... BUT these are the early days of Elmo when he was very one dimensional--a bit unruly, shouting a lot like a spoiled child. Sesame St has really developed the Elmo character into a kinder, gentler, smarter 5 year old monster.
Anyway, vintage lovers of SS will appreciate my fave on the video: The Alligator King with his 7 sons. Great message: "Son you wear the crown; you didn't bring me diamonds or rubies, but you helped me up when I was down."
Nonetheless, despite my grievances my daughter begs to differ and loves this video; it's grown on her and she even calls Snuffy "Eh-phant" when he shows up and tries to sing the songs, gets a word in sync here and there. This is where I think these DVDs are educational. The kids actually want to learn the lyrics. I much prefer "Sesame Sings Karaoke" becasue I love the adult interaction with the monsters and of course the celebs are funny too. Elmo's so much more developed as well. There are no real people on Sing Along Guessing Game by the way.
WONDERFUL VIDEO!.......2005-03-28
My 14 month old loves this one so much that our tape is dying, must be time to buy the DVD. It's very cute and constant songs get her attention.
MikasMom.......2003-08-31
When my son (now 6) was teething, out of desperation, we put this video in and were amazed at the reaction -- totally mesmerized by the voices & songs.
My daughter (8 months) has totally followed in her brother's footsteps and LOVES Elmo's Sing-Along Guessing Game.
It's not just a cute video to keep her entertained. It has songs about numbers, best friends, getting along, and music that you can "dance" to. I highly recommend this video to anyone with infants on up. My son will still sit and watch it with my daughter & I find myself constantly singing along. What's better than entertainment & education?!
My baby's (and my) favorite.......2003-04-26
This is a great video that kept my 10 month old daughter (and me) amused and happy while she had to stay in the hospital for 3 days last month. It was a godsend. And after watching it myself for what seems like 101 times, I can honestly say that I still enjoy it. The songs are hysterical and I can't decide which is our favorite: "Get Along"-a 50's style doo-wop number led by Kermit or "La Baa-Baa"-a song led by the Count and lots of his sheep friends (that he counts at night to help him fall to sleep). Highly recommended.
We Love It!.......2003-03-20
My 10 month old son absolutely loves this DVD. He's been watching it since he was 4 months old and it still keeps his interest. Even my husband and I are not tired of it yet and we've seen it countless times. Elmo teaches kids the parts of their face, numbers, and about being friends! I highly recommend it!
