Barney - Barney's Halloween Party

Editorial Review:

It's October 31 and Barney and the kids are decorating for a Halloween party at school. This means a trip to a local farm for the usual pumpkins, the Indian corn, and a good excuse for some seasonal songs ("You can call it fall, if that's what you please / But I say I like autumn.") There are 14 songs, including at least one repeat from an earlier tape, and the usual Barney-ized versions of traditional tunes--the most bizarre being "S-M-I-L-E" to the music of "The Battle Hymn of the Republic." The prehistoric galoot and his "Halloween team" make some construction-paper spiders and paper-bag owls that are easy to duplicate at home and some foot-painting that would do a number on your carpets. The party is the big payoff, complete with prizeless games, a candy-filled piƱata, and Barney boogeying down. The secondary story has BJ and Baby Bop on a dismal trick-or-treat outing, which includes safety advice but ultimately seems to suggest that this most-typical Halloween activity isn't a good idea. On the costume front, cowboys, ballerinas, and scarecrows are the order of the night, as this festive, but decidedly unspooky, 50-minute tape sidesteps the whole ghost/witch/goblin theme. --Kimberly Heinrichs
Description
Ever wonder what goes on in a pumpkin patch during the fall season? Pumpkin Season is a Read-A-Long DVD Picture Book. This wonderful story is about a cute little pumpkin named Reggie. He can't wait to go to the jack-o-lantern auditions and play pumpkin games at the seasonal patch parties. However, in pumpkin society you either qualify to become a jack-o-lantern, or you are kicked out of the patch and made into pie by the Bakerman.
The Bakerman never makes pies out of the official jack-o-lanterns, but he has a big pie order to fill and now all pumpkins are up for grabs, especially Reggie. Reggie's courage unites the pie pumpkins and jack-o-lanterns and they all join together with the jack-o-lantern ghosts of Halloweens past to defeat the Bakerman. The jack-o-lanterns finally realize that big or small scary or not, they are all the same. And from now on all pumpkins will be Holiday jack-o-lanterns, thanks to Reggie.
This wonderful story is for all ages. Special features include, animated intro, on-screen story text so children can read along, your choice of male or female narrator (kids pick), a full screen gallery with music track. Images are highly detailed and colorful 3D computer generated illustrations. Length is approximately 30 minutes, language is English.
