With the makings of a classic, Disney's Tuck Everlasting compares favorably with such family favorites as The Secret Garden and Fairy Tale: A True Story. Loosely but respectfully adapted from Natalie Babbitt's beloved children's book, this appealing fable focuses on the timeless Tuck family, blessed--and cursed--with immortality after drinking from a magical spring. Hiding their secret over passing decades, they are discovered in 1914 by Winnie (Alexis Bledel)--the only daughter of stern, upper-crust socialites--who encounters the life-affirming Jesse Tuck (Jonathan Jackson) and grows enchanted with his family (Sissy Spacek, William Hurt, Scott Bairstow) while her parents fear she's been kidnapped. The film's teenage romance is invented (Winnie is younger in Babbitt's book), but it's charmingly appropriate, and Ben Kingsley is perfect as a menacing man of mystery. Scoring a solid follow-up to his equally enjoyable My Dog Skip, director Jay Russell turns Tuck Everlasting into a magical plea for living life to its fullest. --Jeff Shannon

The Tuck Review.......2007-06-05
I personally loved this book. It is about a girl Winnie who finds a magical water spring. She saw a boy maybe a little bit older than her drink from it. when she asks if she could have some he says no. Then she demands the water because she owns the wood that the spring is in. He stops her then the boys mom and older brother come, he is relieved because they would know what to do. They take her to their house but on the way there they tell her the story. The story is that long ago they drank from it and as they grew on in life they realized that they were not getting any older from the time they drank the water. so they figured that they were immortal when Jesse the youngest boy fell out of a tree 30ft high right on his neck and didn't even hurt him, then when Tuck the father got bitten by a rattle snake and did not die, then Jesse ate poisen frogs stools and didn't even get sick, then the horse got mistaken for a deer and got shot and it didn't even leave a mark, thats when Tuck the father found out it was the water, so to make sure of it one day Tuck took his shotgun and before Jesse, Mae the mother, or Miles the older brother could do any thing he shot himself in the heart! It knocked him down but barely left a scratch. So the family tells the girl not to tell anyone about the spring. But the problem was a man heard the whole story and was planning to sell thge water! Thats when the story begins, but I am not going to tell you any more. But the one thing that made the story was that Jesse and Winnie fall in love. So I really think it was a great book.
Amazing movie!!!.......2007-05-17
I loved this movie so much. The first time i saw it was just after i read the book, And whenever they make a movie out of a book its never as good as the book. But this movie is definetly as good, or even better then the book. This movie is about a girl named Winnie who is fed up with life at home, and goes exploring in the woods. In the woods she meets a boy named Jesse Tuck, along with the rest of his family. Winnie learns that the Tuck family is imortal. They will live forever and can not die. They decide to keep her at their house, intill she understands why she can not tell about the little spring that makes them imortal. While she is staying with the Tucks Winnie and Jesse fall in love. There is an amazing scene that almost made me cry, when Winnie is being taken away from Jesse. Mae the mother hits the man who is trying to take away winnie on the head with a gun, and he dies. She and her husband are then put in jail, to be hung. The problom is, if she is hung she will not die, and every one will know the secret. If you want to know what happens next, see the movie!!!This movie has some very good acors including Alexis Bledel as Winnie,Jonathan Jackson as Jesse Tuck and Ben Kingsley as the Man in the Yellow Suit. All in all, this was a great movie and you should get it!!!
A timeless tale, but no real chemistry between Winnie and Jesse........2007-04-09
I read the book as a teen in the 70's and really enjoyed it. As an adult with a small child and a more realistic notion of,"mortality," I related to the film on a different and more mature level. Regardless, it is a timeless tale for all ages.
One minor criticism is that I didn't sense any real romantic tension between Winnie and Jesse. Perhaps the problem was with casting. They looked so much alike that they seemed like brother and sister as opposed to passionate teens. Even when Winnie was doing that fireside dance, Jesse just seemed sort of oblivious.
William Hurt who played the father is one of my favorite actors. At times he seemed slightly too sophisticated to play the unsophisticated father, especially since I tend to type cast him as,"Nick," from the Big Chill.
I enjoyed the movie but whoever cast Jesse should not have cast a guy who liked like Winnie's brother to play her love interest.
Pure And Enjoyable Fantasy!.......2007-03-28
This movie's story-line takes the viewers out of our ordinary world and succeeds in truly entertaining us, which is really enjoyable. There are elements of: a) a love story, b) real-life dilemmas, and c) tragedy and loss. I whole-heartedly recommend this to every viewer...
A really sweet movie.......2007-03-09
I haven't read the book yet, but this movie is really sweet. Alexis Bledel really shows a whole other side of her acting abilities in this movie, versus her role in the Gilmore Girls. The movie is about the Tuck family and their unique gift: they can not die. They were traveling west in the late 1700's when they stopped at a spring and drank from it. The spring had magical powers and granted them an immortal life. The movie focuses on the love story between young Winifred (Alexis) and the youngest Tuck son, Jesse. Someone discovers the Tuck's secret and eventually the Tucks have to leave, but not before Jesse has to decide between Winifred and his family. I won't spoil the ending, but overall I think this movie was well written and would be a great addition to any child or young adults collection.

Unlike Disney's other sequels to their classic films, this follow-up to the 1953 version of Peter Pan debuted in theaters. World War II has turned Wendy's preteen daughter, Jane, into a realist, a girl who insists there's no need for stories and fun while London is crumbling. Hook kidnaps Jane (thinking she's Wendy) and returns to "the second star to the right" to foil Pan. Alas, the film doesn't build on this new story line (the London scenes have the most emotional impact), and what follows is a thin reworking of the original. On the plus side, a clever octopus takes over from that old crocodile, and Jane turns out to be a solid--and modern--role model. Those from ages 4 to 9 who have been brought up on the original should enjoy these adventures, even if the story, like Peter himself, "hasn't grown up." The 72-minute film is shown with the delightful 1948 short "Pluto's Fledgling." --Doug Thomas

Did not go over well.......2007-07-07
No where near the original, kids were bored after 20 mins and we had to put the original in. Rent it, don't buy it, they will never watch it again
Junk.......2007-05-26
At a younger age, I thought this was junk. Now that I'm older, I find that I was being foolish. This is beyond junk, its on the verge of being untouchable waste. As far as Disney sequels go, this one ranks with Cinderella 2 and Air Buddies. I wouldn't even recommend showing this to a baby that has no ability to understand bad movies from good movies, because this will teach them to enjoy nothing of value.
a short review........2007-03-25
First, this movie is overrated and doesn't come close to the Disney original. Disney once stood for quality and entertainment. Now they will exploit any of their classics with a plethora of bad sequels.
I'm not just a hater of new Disney, I own and have seen this movie. Some of it is actually not too bad. Captain hook is funny and the animation is top notch. However, Peter Pan doesn't seem like the same Peter. He seems more immature and annoying. Also, why did they need to have the same dog and call it Nanna 2? This just goes to show how little thought was put into the movie. Out of all the names for the dog, they choose Nana 2.... my god!
Captain Hook Junkie.......2007-01-06
If your kids love Captian Hook or pirates this is the DVD for them. My son loves pirates so he always likes to watch this one.
Return to Neverland? More Like Return to Disney Sequels... .......2006-02-09
You may have read my review for the Disney film "Peter Pan". I said it was a good movie, right? Well, this one did not live up to it's 1953 prequel. It was boring and dramatic and just another cheap Disney sequel.
It starts out completely wrong. Jane, Wendy's daughter, did not exist during World War II but in the late nineteenth century. She was never against Peter Pan and she did not have a brother. She was just a little girl who dreamed of going to Neverland when her mother stopped believing. Also, Captain Hook SHOULD BE DEAD but he comes to England in his flying ship (?) to kidnap who he believes is Wendy.
Once Jane arrives at Neverland she meets Peter Pan. I was really shocked here. What happened to Peter's voice? It is TERRIBLE in the fact that it sounds far too adolescent.
After this meeting, several adventures ensue, including Jane's attempt to escape the island that she still does not believe in. She can't learn to fly and in a rage she blurts out she doesn't believe in fairies, so Tink becomes weak. Jane repents and saves her and becomes friends with all the Lost Boys, eventually fulfilling her dream to become the first Lost Girl. But she has forgotten she made a deal with Captain Hook to help kidnap Peter. Now it is up to Jane to save him, and she does, therefore removing Peter from his post as hero and becoming heroine.
There were a few strange parts about this movie. The Indians are never shown, even though there is a brief pass through the Indian Territory. There is scarcely a visit to Mermaid's Lagoon. And once again, Tootles has no voice. The best part in this movie is the end credits with BBMak's version of "Do You Believe in Magic?". This movie earned three stars, and only because it is tied-in with Peter Pan.
P.S. Check out the other Peter Pan-related reviews by Tinkerbell III!

My fav show as a child...........2007-06-27
... I was so stoked to see it on DVD. I bought it a few years ago, watched a few episodes and put it away. My children are into dinosaurs now and I busted it out for them... they TOTALLY love it. Yes it's camp, yes the special effects aren't special... but you gotta love this show. The story lines are unique and I still to this day find it highly entertaining (as well as my 6 and 8 yr old). Just got season two.
great Saturday TV nostalgia.......2007-04-05
Brings back memories to see Land of the Lost once again. The show premiered in 1974. It wasn't until probably the early to mid 80s they re-aired on Saturday morning, long after it was taken off after three seasons. Then , it was the first time I saw them. At the time it first aired, everyone thought the special effects were awesome, and they were, for 1974. If you were terrified by Grumpy when you were a kid, you probably look at it now and say, "Hey! Is this supposed to be for real?" Grumpy didn't have drool nor a throat. After the intro he turns around and roars and you just see this puppet head open up with a fold in the mouth-the puppeteer has to have a way to move the head.
Anyway, it may seem phony now, but overall the nostalgia will make you want to watch it-for just that. To feel like a kid again. Don't you wish it looked as impressionable as it did when you were 9 yrs old? I give this first season 3 stars. If you grew up hooked to the TV just to find out what happened next to Rick, Will, and Holly Marshall, you will want to go 'back in time' and see it again. Is it worth buying? Sure! Why not?
Loved the show then and still love it now.......2007-02-07
This was I guess just a show that made you feel good that a family in such conditions would stick together as much as they do. I used to have to get up and watch every episode when I was young and now I definately will have to order the rest of the seasons. Especially seeing as now my kids love it and are watching it with me, great times!!!!! Thanks so much, I didn't think I would find it, it doesn't seem as popular as some other shows, even though I think it's the best!!!!!Much appreciation. Jan Mussori
Great! .......2007-01-11
My husband and I love watching the DVD's. Our children aren't used to the 70's technology, so we told them to use their imagination, they love watching the DVD's too!!
Fantastic!.......2006-12-01
The video transfer to DVD is great. The "extras" included commentary from cast members who appreciate the show for what it was, without taking it too seriously. My children (both under 10) love this show.

Description
Marshall, Will, and Holly may have been on a routine expedition when they entered the Land of the Lost, but there was nothing routine about Sid & Marty Krofft's vision for this groundbreaking Saturday morning television series of the 1970s. Joining acclaimed science-fiction writers like David Gerrold, Larry Niven, D.C. Fontana, Norman Spinrad, and Theodore Sturgeon with cutting edge makeup and visual effects teams, the Kroffts raised the bar for sophisticated, intelligent and entertaining programming. The result was a fantastic odyssey on the planet of Altrusia, filled with dinosaurs, Sleedstak, Pakunis, and visitors from alternate dimensions. The Marshall family-Rick, Will, Holly, and, later, Uncle Jack-were strangers in a stranger land, but they survived by their wits, compassion, and sense of humor.
Customer Reviews:
The Trials & Tribulations of the Marshalls . . . and Chaka!!.......2007-05-12
For anyone who wants to remember a kinder, gentler (and yes, occasionally REALLY stupid) time in TV shows, go no further than this precious boxed set.
LAND OF THE LOST is a perfect '70s time capsule that works as both a nostalgia fix for those of us who are old enough to have kids and a show with enough absurdly cheap monster effects to please the kids of today who have been spoiled by sterling production values. Watch this with any kid nowadays, and you'll see that they love the show precisely BECAUSE it is totally and blessedly cheap-looking. Remember the Marshall family falling down that waterfall in the raft? It looks like somebody dropping a crumpled dixie cup into a kiddie pool. And don't forget, of course, the only "slightly" alarmed-sounding yells that the family make as they go down the waterfall and drop "a thousand feet below."
And don't forget those banjo-heavy music cues; again, so geeky that you really start to wish that the music would start playing every once in a while in your real life - in the office, in the car, anywhere.
Last but certainly not least, there is the great hairy Pakuni child named Chaka. What an incredible character - and clearly the inspiration for George Lucas to create Chewbacca in the STAR WARS films. Who hasn't wished that they had a little Chaka tagging along, speaking in Pakuni language and making a total nuisance of himself?
Basically, this show takes itself so seriously that you have to love it. And the "Uncle Jack" episodes in Season Three are fun, but they don't have the magic of Seasons One and Two. But there are always the Sleestaks to keep you entertained - ever notice there are only ever three Sleestaks at any one time? Cheapness, my friends . . . blessed be low-budget entertainment.
Bottom line: Perfect fun for the entire family, and a great antidote to the ultra-slick kiddie entertainment of the present day.
Buy this boxed set, and be forever happy in the LAND OF THE LOST . . . oh, and did I mention that there are really cheap dinosaurs with names like Spot, Big Alice, Grumpy, Dopey, and other names from the Seven Dwarves? See you there, friends . . . bring the screams, leave the raft.
Land of the Lost: The Complete Series.......2007-05-09
Loved it when it was on and was glad when I was able to find it.
Prehistoric Cheese.......2007-04-28
I have a friend...a friend who I have known since I was six...who tells me all the time that he is "frugal".You and I can read this as "cheap". So whenever he splurges on something totally outrageous I always look out my window to see if there are two moons in the sky or if Jesus decided to really come back. It's just a really rare thing that this guy takes good money and buys something on a whim.I think his last "unneccessary" purchase was diapers for his kid. Imagine how surprised I was when he brought his "spontaneous purchase" over the house; the Complete Land of the Lost DVD collection.
"C'mon, John...let's watch it...it'll be just like old times when we used to have sleepovers and watch it on Saturday mornings." And it was. I hated Land of the Lost when I was a kid and guess what, I still do.
Please don't think I'm being negative or have no sense of imagination, the show just wears really thin really fast.
"Oh, look at Chaka...oh, here comes Dopey the dinosaur. Oh, no a sleestak..."
Geesh.
We spent a whole Saturday watching every single episode in this collection. See? You can say I'm a devoted friend because truth is, if someone was to offer me a lobotomy with a potato peeler during this "extravaganza" I would've joyfully taken them up on it. By the end of the day my brain was mush, anyway.
I've had a lot of mind trips in my 42 years and I've never really been that fearful of not coming back reasonably sane. Altered, yeah...skewed, sure,...but this non-stop Land of the Lost fest did something to my brain that makes me wonder if I stepped over that proverbial edge. My friend should be getting something from my lawyer any day now. This case might be groundbreaking; trying to intentionally overdose someone from overexposure to Sid and Marty Kroft.Good thing he didn't bring over The Bugaloos...I'd be completely catatonic.
Now you, the reader of this review, might think that buying this DVD collection might be just a nostalgic stroll down memory lane. You want nostalgia? Here you go,in the words of the late Nancy Reagan...oh, wait...she's not dead yet, sorry, Nancy...just say, "NO!!!!"
Peace & Blessings, people...
Marshall, Will, and Holly... and the Land of the Lost.......2006-11-25
This will never win any awards for special effects or great acting, but it will forever be one of the best Saturday morning shows ever filmed. The first two seasons, anyway.
Season one was supervised by veteran SF writer David Gerrold (who wrote the Star Trek episode Trouble With Tribbles and the time travel classic The Man Who Folded Himself, among many other fine works) who got some of the best SF names in the business to contribute scripts. The storylines through this season probed the possibilities of what might happen to the family in their "enclosed universe" and introduced some natives such as Chaka, and some dinosaur characters that they kept around as pets and for comic relief. It also addressed themes of peace and integrity that should be instilled into every young person's mind. And what better way to do that than through a format like this... what kid doesn't love dinosaurs? The last episode of this season, written by Gerrold, provided the closest thing to a "satisfying ending" the series ever got.
Season two was much shorter and Gerrold didn't stay with it. I think Ted Sturgeon contributed one script, but most of them were written by studio writers. The series held true to the first season and they explored many of the same themes and kept most of the same characters. At the end of season two, the father was sucked into a time portal. Spencer Milligan didn't want to continue with the series. As a complete series, these episodes should fit into a timeline that took place before the season finale to season one. The first two seasons contained a lot of great writing, some interesting twists, a character named Enid who always seemed to know a little more than he let on and always had something of positive moral value to contribute. There was always the threat of the Sleestaks (which were primitive versions of Enid, whose race had regressed with time), the T-Rex was a constant threat, and of course there had to be a way out... or was there? One problem was that they found a routine and settled in it and spent very little time during this season looking for a way out.
Season three was an embarrassment that violated the rules the show had established for itself. The kids' uncle (played by the guy who was in the short lived Planet of the Apes tv series), while searching for them, got sucked into the Land of the Lost just as the dad got removed. How convenient. Most of the characters disappeared, including Chaka's family (and Chaka looked different) and all of the dinosaurs disappeared except for the ones who kept trying to kill them. They moved into the abandoned city even though it was the place that posed the most danger to the family due to the Sleestaks (who somehow ere able to talk this season, and the Enid character was made to appear weaker than he had before), and the stories grew more and more inane. Human characters appeared without valid explanation, they explored more land (even though the "enclosed universe" had already been established as being a certain small area) and Greek God-like people and the Flying Dutchman and various other "legendary" people kept popping up, and a weird giant kept trying to kill them. Some of the episodes were entertaining, but for camp purposes. The Roddenberryesque life lessons the first two seasons taught were gone. To make matters worst, the last show just ended and there was never any satisfying closure to the series.
I wish the Land of the Lost remake series from the mid-nineties would get released on DVD. It can't be any worse than season three of the original. I would highly recommend seasons one and two to any SF fan who doesn't mind a little camp. Season three and the nineties series I would recommend to completionists only, as some of the episodes weren't really all that bad. And now that you can get all three seasons in one package, why not own them all?
Land of the Lost DVDs... GREAT!.......2006-11-10
I was surprised when I saw that this series from my childhood was available on DVD. I immediately ordered it and watched them.. It was nice to remember the days of the Saturday Morning "Cartoons". Land of the Lost is a classic 70's show with all kinds of not so good graphics and production but when I put it in the DVD player and hit play, it took me back to my youth.

Description
It's time to get "Lost" all over again. But be on guard! Keep your eyes peeled for Sleestak! Because the big green meanies are back - now even more dangerous than ever before. You'd best watch your step or you just might find yourself standing alone before the dreaded Library of Skulls- and that's but one of the many perils awaiting you in this second spine-tingling season of the legendary Land of the Lost.
Customer Reviews:
Second Season is even better........2007-01-26
Return to the Land of the Lost, with the Sleestaks, the Lost City and the Pylons. But now add such great ideas as the new alien called the Zarn, the Library of Skulls and the Mist Marsh. With writers such as Theodore Sturgeon and the return of such actors such as Walker Edmission who plays Enik the second season is even better. The unlimited imagination and the advanced science fiction plots are piled onto the solid framework from the first season. Like a good cake that finally gets some home made icing.
But we also see the evolution of the family. They are working together to survive - the cave has a lived in look, the ropes and pulleys they have made, the new tools and even clothing they have created. They show us how the Marshalls test new plants and food on animals and deal with daily life. They wish to escape yet at the same time try to make the Land of the Lost a home.
Up to *#@%&!!.......2007-01-11
I was totally shocked at the uninteresting dvd collection.it has a good front cover looking much better than it is.Everything is so unproffesionaly acted even from a kids point of view!!
Wonderful!.......2006-12-01
The video transfer to DVD is great. The "extras" included commentary from cast members who appreciate the show for what it was, without taking it too seriously. My children (both under 10) love this show.
Great Nostalgic Fun.......2006-10-17
The second season of "Land of the Lost" was in many ways the best season. The Marshalls had settled in and made real beds, cooking utensils, knives, even fishing poles. Sure, the special effects were still cheesy and some things were left unexplained - like how did the Marshalls keep their clothes so clean and unwrinkled when they wore them 24 hours a day (even sleeping in them) and how did Holly manage to braid her hair so perfectly every day. But cheesiness was part of the fun of "Land of the Lost" and there were some truly outstanding episodes in the second season. The Zarn, a creature made out of lights that changed colors depending on his emotions appeared in several episodes and was a great addition to the show. One outstanding episode is "One of Our Pylons is Missing" in which Chaka, Holly, and Rick fall through a hole in the ground into what is basically the heart of the Land of the Lost. This episode shows how good the show was for a Saturday morning low budget kid's show. Other very good episodes include "The Musician" and "Blackout".
As with the first season, the bonus features are also good, especially when Wesley Eure and Kathy Coleman (Will and Holly) do the commentating. Eure also hosts a fun trivia quiz based on the first two seasons. The interview with Walker Edminston (Enik) was very interesting, especially when he talks about how uncomfortable the Sleestak outfits were and why Enik wore a vest in each episode.
The second season of "Land of the Lost" is great nostalgic fun.
Last good season.......2006-05-28
Although the special effects were improved for season two, the stories were not quite as strong as in season one. I did enjoy some of these episodes, especially The Pylon Express. And listening to the commentary on The Longest Day may have been worth the price of the DVD set alone.
If you enjoyed Land of the Lost or want to share it with your own children, I'd recommend Seasons One and Two.

Customer Reviews:
Very Disappointing.......2006-11-08
As the third season of "Land of the Lost" opens, an earthquake strikes just as Rick Marshall opens a time doorway. Before his children, Will and Holly, can reach him, he falls through and the doorway closes. Will and Holly aren't alone for long as they find their Uncle Jack has landed in the Land of the Lost while looking for them. They soon discover the earthquake has destroyed the cave they were living in and take refuge in a temple, along with Chaka, the only Pakuni to survive the earthquake. The Marshalls have to deal with their old nemesis the Sleestaks, fight off dinosaurs including Torchy, a fire breathing dinosaur, and various other threats, all while trying to reach home.
The third and last season of "Land of the Lost" was very disappointing. The loss of Spencer Milligan as Rick Marshall was a shame, although Ron Harper did a good job as Uncle Jack. But the show was sloppy overall. Gone were such creative characters like the Zarn from season two. Instead, the writers threw in a series of unbelievable visitors to the Land of the Lost: Medusa, the Abominable Snowman, and the Flying Dutchman to name just a few. These visitors seem to have no problem escaping from the Land of the Lost, although the Marshalls have been looking for a way to get out for years. Holly even gets a pet unicorn and bakes a cake in one episode - where'd she get the ingredients? Chaka is now a regular character and can speak perfect English, with no explanation why. Most of the episodes focused on the Sleestaks blaming anything and everything on the Marshalls and saying they must be destroyed. Wesley Eure sang at the end of a few episodes, seemingly backed by a full orchestra.
Also disappointing is the lack of extras. Outside of some stuff with Ron Harper there aren't any extras. It would have been fun to hear Wesley Eure's and Kathy Coleman's thoughts on the third season as their commentary on some of the episodes was one of the highlights of the DVDs from the first and second seasons.
There are a couple of good episodes from the third season, notably "Timestop" and "Scarab", but most of Season Three of "Land of the Lost" is a disappointment.
What's up with Uncle Jack's hair anyway?.......2006-05-29
Dad returns home. Will and Holly are stuck in the Land of the Lost. New dinosaurs appear: a fire-breather and a two-headed fork-tongued terror. The kids discover their Uncle Jack is now trapped with them. Sounds like a promising season?
Could have been but, unfortunately, wasn't. Stay away from season three. Uncle Jack wasn't very likeable and the quality of the stories (other than maybe Aftershock) was far below the writing in seasons one and two.
For the Land of the Lost movie, please have Uncle Jack get crushed by a boulder during the earthquake sequence. Thanks!
1976 - the year Sid & Marty sold their souls to the Devil for a propane torch in a dinosaur costume..........2005-09-26
Before buying all 3 seasons on DVD, I read the reviews thoroughly. One of the reasons I became an Amazon reviewer is due to the fantastic warnings against bad items and encouraging words of recommendations for others from reliable reviewers... but I did not follow my own advice on heeding the words of wisdom from so many reviewers that gave this season such a poor review.
These shows are AWFUL! Rick Marshall is gone and we don't know why Spencer Milligan left the show. To explain his absence, a new horrendous theme song is introduced - written by Wayne Osmond of the famed Osmond family... the song explains how during yet another earth quake, another time shift occurs - Rick is playing with the crystals in one of the pylons when the earthquake hits and he is sucked into a time doorway. Instead of chasing after him so they can at least be in the same time period as dear old dad, Will and Holly just stare and scream for their father.
The earthquake has destroyed their home in the cave and as they look for new shelter, they find Cha-Ka all alone - all the other Pakuni are gone - missing, and it would appear Cha-Ka is the last of his species. Conveniently, another familiar father figure falls from the sky - "Uncle Jack" Marshall went looking for his missing brother and niece and nephew and conveniently did so at the same time the earthquake hit and found himself also in the Land of the Lost. Uncle Jack (Ron Harper of "The Planet of the Apes" TV series fame) wears the same outfit as his brother and has similar survivalists skills.
The three family members and Cha-Ka move in together - into a temple in the lost city... new animals are introduced which look like they were put together by Stevie Wonder. There's Lu-Lu- the 2-headed water dragon that has these forked tongues that stick out about 6 feet and then there's Torchy - a dinosaur that breathes fire for no particular reason. He doesn't use it just for defense - but just because he can. In nature, we can observe creatures such as the bombadier beetle which can create chemical explosions, but only when defending itself.
The Sleestak now fiddle with their arms and flap their jaws for no reason. Not only does Enik talk, there is now a "head Sleestak" who also talks - and they are all just a bunch of losers. Enik is no longer just mysterious - he's a jerk... and then there are these horrendous plot lines that are like re-hashed Star Trek episodes - no originality, just cheese.
The only thing I did enjoy seeing was the tremendous improvement in acting ability with these actors, especially Kathy Coleman. She was good before, but she is so believable, even with these ridiculous stories, she should have been given other big roles on the small screen and large screen. She was analgous to the Tina Majorino of the 90s and the Dakota Fanning of today in stellar child acting. I also appreciated how brother and sister were no longer showing themselves as competitors, but overtly showed their love and concern for one another in these episodes.
The commentary and interview with Ron Harper is eye-rolling. He praises this season as the best and the direction as stellar. Did Ron do mushrooms during the filming of these shows? It was the 70s after all. Actually, he struck me as being more nostalgic and star-struck than honest about his appraisal of the shows. In at least 2 episodes where Will Marshall sings his home-spun ballads with a home-made mandolin or whatever instrument that is, and Uncle Jack looks so annoyed and disgusted - you can almost read his thought bubble, "My agent said I would be the big star in this show. How in the hell do I get out of this contract?"
The only thing, and I do mean the only thing, that would have saved this DVD set from being so awful was if every episode had a commentary track from Kathy Coleman and Wesley Eure - because you know they would be laughing their butts off at these plots. My theory is that they probably did do comment tracks, but were so inflammatory against the director of the 3rd season that Rhino cut them to prevent being sued.
These are still labeled as Krofft productions, but the life in these shows are long gone. Were it not for Kathy Coleman's acting, the entire set would lose yet another star and basically be toilet worthy. Land of the Lost was awesome because of the stellar sci-fi writing, and the lackluster plot lines of the 3rd season are why the show falls on its face. It's no wonderr that the season was cut short and this was the end - by the 2nd episode, most of the fans that were old enough, probably drank themselves into oblvion, drowning their sorrows in booze or other substances. I only vaguely remembered these shows - I think because I must have blocked them from my memory to protect the purity of the first two seasons. I cannot get over how awful these shows are, whether or not they are compared to the previous 2 seaons... even without comparisons, they do not stand up on their own. In a word: BLEH!
YIKES!! - It's not hard to see why this was the last season.......2005-06-10
Wow, this is awful. It's bad, but not in a fun nostalgic way, just bad. I love season one and two. To be honest I couldn't wait for this one. I remember being a little kid in the 70's and watching this show and loving it. I have to say that I never remembered the "Uncle Jack" character. I would have to think in the later seventies when reruns were shown season three was avoided, and for good reason. From the second it starts and the opening song is different, it just feels wrong. The new song is horrible. Not that the season one and two song wasn't laughably silly, but it was catchy and stuck in your head. Not this one. It sounds like they had to explain where Dad went without having to rely on Spencer Milligan, so they explain it in the opening song. A song that isn't catchy, but rather sloppily thrown together. Just like season three. I don't need to rehash what has already been stated in the other reviews above. What I can say is that if you are a completist, then it doesn't matter what anyone else says, you're gonna buy it either way. But if you love this show and loved seasons one and two and want to avoid a real disappointment, you may want to think twice about picking this one up. By the way it says in the editorial that it is three discs with 17 episodes. That is wrong, it is two disc with thirteen episodes.
The rapid trip downhill!.......2005-05-07
The third season of Land of the Lost sadly shows signs that the creators didn't really care any more. The expensive new sets look fantastic, but don't expect any of the thought-provoking or intriguing stories (or big-name writers!) of the first two seasons. In fact, the writers apparently didn't pay much attention to the previous seasons, as there are some serious discrepancies. There is also a tendency to rehash plot points, and some Gilligans-Islandism in the form of mysterious one-shot guest stars who appear and depart.
The extras for the Season 3 are sparse as well. The only commentary is one by the actor who played Uncle Jack, and it mainly consists of his talking about how great the show was.
High Point--The addition of a Cro-Magnon man, Malak, as an alternate villain. Malak is a God-wannabee. The Marshalls have to save the Sleestack from him--interesting twist, and it could have gone in very cool directions with less lazy scripting.
Low Points--
The Marshalls choose to move into the temple in the lost City, basically on the front porch of the Sleestack. Smart move.
Uncle Jack replaced Rick Marshall, and is not as likeable a character. It might have worked better if they had made him a different sort of person, rather than dumping him right in Daddy's shoes. He even wears the same khaki clothes...
Cha-ka switches to full pidgin English, and forgets his grammar so far as to regularly refer to himself as 'a Pakuni' instead of a Paku.
Holly is somehow still wearing the same jeans and shirt she was lost in, in spite of the fact that she's a foot taller and developing a bosom. Months/years of running from dinosaurs and climbing rocks seems to have not worn any holes in the knees or made any stains on the shirt. I bet a lot of parents wish they could buy their kids an outfit like that...
The Sleestack leader is able to talk...but he is apparently not the intelligent Salatch of Season 1, but just a talking Sleestack as ignorant as the others. The Sleestack (including Enik) refer to themselves as 'Sleestack' rather than Altrusians as in Season 2. (They call Enik an Altrusian occasionally, though.) Enik pretty much becomes the errand boy of the Sleestack, and starts channeling Spock in his commentary on what is 'logical' all the time. Every other episode involves the Sleestack going to the library of skulls to ask how to get rid of the Marshalls. I guess too many people said the library was cool!
Apparently having exhausted their store of science-fiction ideas, fantasy elements are added. These include a fire-breathing dino, a two-headed dino, a unicorn, Medusa, the Flying Dutchman, etc. The Marshalls accept this all without so much as a "What the heck?"
And, the kiss of death--Will gets a cheesy-looking home-made banjo and starts singing bad 70's-style tunes with full orchestral accompaniment. Whenever a main character starts singing at the end of the program (or worse, starts a rock band) you can bet that series is on it's last season.
Goodbye, Land of the Lost! You were murdered most foully in Season 3, but still you left your mark on the hearts and minds of a generation of Saturday-morning toon watchers...and the DVDs are proving popular with a new generation, too.

Nice Blast from the Past.......2004-12-14
I was anxiously awaiting this DVD's arrival to revisit the Land of the Lost. I dearly loved watching this show as a kid and wanted to share the same experience with my own kids. It was great watching the Marshall family, Chaka and the Sleestacks again. At first my kids didn't care for the "special effects" of the 70's but soon we were all watching and laughing at the graphics, fake scenery and dinosaurs and how much things have changed. It was a nice "blast from the past" and was glad to pass it on to my own kids. I also enjoyed the interviews with the grown actors of "Holly" and "Chaka"
For series fans of 'Land of the Lost'...........2004-12-05
Some people might be tempted to bypass this collection of 'Land of the Lost' episodes now that the complete first season of 'Land of the Lost is available. I advise any die-hard fans of the series, especially Kathy Coleman to reconsider. Even though all of the episodes of this edition are also in the complete first season collection, this edition contains an interview with Kathy Coleman (Holly) and Phil Paley (Cha-Ka) that is well worth the cost of the DVD alone. Just my opinion.
for the memories.......2004-03-02
This show along with H.R. Puf n' Stuf and Sigmund and the Seamonsters and a few other Sid & Marty Krofft shows are standouts in my childhood memory of saturday morning cartoons, along with Schoolhouse Rock, but thats another story. As for the three aforementioned Sid & Marty Krofft shows ,these are great for reliving your childhood once in a while.Unless you have small children stick with these small packages instead of the entire series sets.Believe me you won't watch them enough. As for the reviewer wondering why someone remembered watching land of the lost in the same group as transformers. They weren't remembering the original series. There was a short lived remake of the show about fifteen or so years after this one.
Retort to previous reviews- Land of the Lost.......2004-02-23
Im a little confused by the reviewer who claims to have watched the show along with G.I. Joe, Transformers ect., since Land of the Lost was a show that aired during the seventies, and the aforementioned shows were mainly eighties fare! must be another crude and crass attempt to exploit all things "retro". For those of you who actually watched the show in the seventies, this dvd is recommended and I do not know of a series compliation that is available or forthcoming at this time. I disagree with those who claim the show was a shoddy production at best. The show had some great storylines with some classic sci-fi/fantasy elements written into the script,- dimensional doorways, parallell worlds, aliens, lost worlds, and of course ravenous prehistoric beasts! The stories are not overburdened with trite "moral" commentary like so many youth shows of the seventies and even today contain.(Remember after school specials?, yeccch!)The acting is not corny and the actors give a perfectly suitable performance that is very much enjoyable. The special effects are easy to criticize in comparison to todays standards, but given the era, budget and other factors the shows creators had to deal with at the time, I think it can be excused, besides as a kid your imagination easily filled in the gaps back then.I must admit, Before I got the dvd, I was expected to be dissapointed after all these years, but to my surprise I throughly enjoyed every episode, including the vhs releases, but be aware if you purchase the dvd you will only need vhs volumes 3 and 4, my only complaint is that there are not more available.
Incredible Family Television.......2003-06-08
Thes videos have no equal in their creativity and humor. I watched them growing up, and every saturday morning I relive the experience by watching this with my family. A worthy addition to any TV fans collection.

Product Description
Set in Israel, The Holy Land grittily portrays Mendy (Oren Rehany), a young rabbinical student who ventures outside the safety of his regimented religious life to experience the secular world. Mendy falls in love with Sasha (Tchelet Semel), a nineteen-year-old Russian prostitute he meets in Tel Aviv, but his love turns obsessive.
As he pursues Sasha, Mendy is befriended by Mike (Saul Stein), a former American war photographer who owns "Mike's Place," a Jerusalem dive bar where Jews and Arabs drink side by side. There Mendy meets Razi (Robert Illooz), an Arab wheeler and dealer and the colorful "Exterminator" (Arie Moskuna), an M-16 wielding American-born hard-line Jewish settler.
As Mendy becomes more and more involved with them, he begins to question his future and faith. But when Mike and Razi involve Mendy and Sasha in a shady smuggling scheme it proves to be the ultimate turning point in all their lives.

bad on so many levels.......2006-07-07
The acting is bad, the storyline even worse and worst of all it works with stereotypes and prejudices, like Arabs are suicide bombers even if they seem to be nice. I don't think you learn anything about Israel and its culture, except if you count a few shots of Jerusalem. The movie is the equivalent of a dime novel and plain bad with no redeeming qualities whatsoever.
A powerful, if uneven, treatment of soul-searching among two very different Israeli youth........2006-06-30
Eitan Gorlin's semi-autobiographical work is worth seeing...if you don't mind some strong nudity. Techelet is mesmerizing, and Oren gives an appropriately spare performance.
The film does show the director's own ambivalence of his leaving Orthodox Jewish life. I think Mendy's choices, especially at the end of the film, show that his heart is still torn, but ready to return.
Pleasing.......2004-11-18
A little slow at some parts. HL is a charming movie on friendship, love and opposites. A really good Israeli movie.
Interesting plot....upsetting, predictable ending...........2004-10-29
I enjoyed this little indie film. I thought it was well acted, and had an interesting plot. The first half of the movie is definitely better than the second half. The ending was predictable and disappointing. But overall, give this movie a try.
Israeli background added interest to a rather silly story.......2004-10-22
This small independent 2001 film is set in Israel in the year 2000 (before things really got bad). It's a sort-of romance about a shy rabbinical student who falls in love with a young Russian prostitute. It's a silly story but the Israeli background adds interest and perspective as the audience gets to see a view of the Holy Land which is, in reality, it's underbelly. There's a strip club in Tel Aviv where the young woman works and is exploited by her employers. There's a bar in Tel Aviv owned by a drunken American ex-patriot where Arabs, Jews and unsavory individuals from around the world congregate. There's a hint of illegal smuggling and a lot of partying including drugs and alcohol. And, generally, the story is lightweight until the conclusion, which made me think that the author had written himself into a corner and didn't know how to get out.
I rather enjoyed the concept and the scenery. Acting was good and the young actress was pretty and some of the explicit scenes were fun to watch. But even though the film was only 98 minutes long, I found myself bored and wishing it would hurry up. Even though there was a hint of intrigue and of politics, it was only for background. And, unfortunately, the romantic relationship never really rang true. And so I can only give "The Holy Land" a very lukewarm recommendation.

Product Description
Today, Australia, New Zealand and the Alaskan frontier of North America are characterized as beautiful vacation spots but these regions weren't always so inviting. Travel back in time tens of thousands of years and watch as our ancestors battle tooth and nail for survival against the monstrous creatures that once ruled these killing fields.
The latest in CGI-animation brings each "alien" world to life, illustrating the impossible living conditions and the improbable creatures that called these areas home. The giant lizard Megalania, reaching more than 16 feet in length and weighing nearly 1,000 pounds, once terrorized Aboriginal settlers of Australia. New Zealand's early man battled the Haast's eagle a terrifying bird of prey that ruled from the air, since no terrestrial mammals existed at that time. And in the ice age ridden Americas, prehistoric hunters took on unthinkable creatures like giant, dog-like bears and the infamous saber-toothed cat, whose fangs were as big as a T. Rex's teeth. It's a startling look at a violent, predatory world from the safety of your own home.
