Three brothers and one woman under the Big Sky country........2007-06-17

This movie is an epic tale told of three brothers and one woman in Montana in the first part of the twentieth century. The youngest brother comes home from college with a beautiful woman on his side. She falls for the middle brother Brad Pitt, who is not altogether interested. The oldest brother falls hopelessly in love with her. This movies plot does get convoluted and confusing at times. The tortured soul that is the middle brother is a model for narcissistic ego maniac. It does have beautiful cinematography, and the story and the characters are interesting enough to keep your attention. The problem I have with the movie is that it does just get too bogged down with its own story. Overall it is fun to watch and I recommend it.

Love, betrayal, and drama..........2007-05-16

The beauty of the countryside in this movie is magnificent. The Rocky Mountains of Montana in the early 1900s must have offered challenging experiences as people wrestled with the elements.

The movie is the story of a man, played by Anthony Hopkins, who has three sons and is abandoned by his wife. So he sets out to raise these three boys and at some point writes to his wife to say... I know how to guide men through war, but this is much harder...

Anthony Hopkins plays the role of Colonel Ludlow, discharged from the war because he wanted to regain some sanity. Therefore, he hates government, he despises the drive to conquer and fight over land, and is highly protective of Indians.

This family of men lives out in the wilderness, therefore, nature is the chisel that forms the character of the three boys. They are very close and the oldest two, played by Brad Pitt and Aidan Quinn, are extremely caring and protective of their younger brother, played by Henry Thomas.

The younger son goes away to college and there he meets Susanna, played by Julia Ormond [played Princess Guinevere in the movie First Knight]. He falls in love with her and upon returning home, brings her along to meet the family.

As she enters the life of these lonely men, she captures the heart of each and everyone. The father is delighted that a refined lady has joined them because thanks to her they read, sing, and enjoy the feminine side of life. But... the three brothers soon encounter the difficulties of jealousy, envy, betrayal and competition for the same woman.

Brad Pitt, as usual, plays the role of the man who breaks other people's relationships, breaks hearts all around, but his performance is superb as Tristan... the favorite son.

Don't miss it! A 1994 Academy winner for best cinematography, this movie offers the passionate journey into the darkest secrets of love, betrayal, and families.

One of the best movies ever made........2007-03-27

Personally I think this movie is one the best that has ever been made. The acting is all superb and the storyline is so unique that I have never seen another movie like it. It is the story of a legend as the young boys grow into men and strive to find their own way in the world.

Good, old-fashioned family saga.......2007-02-24

If you liked Brad Pitt before he began appearing on the cover of People magazine every week, this is the film for you. Set in the early 20th c., before and after WWI, it's the story of Captain Ludlow, a veteran of the Indian Wars, marvelously played by Anthony Hopkins, and his three sons. Brad Pitt is Tristan, the middle son, a loner and lover of the wild, incredibly sexy and the favorite. Beautiful Julia Ormond shows up on the arm of the youngest brother, Samuel, as his fiancée, and the seclusion that the Captain has enjoyed from the turmoil of the wars is shattered. All three brothers are smitten, but reality intrudes when the idealistic Samuel decides to go to Canada to enlist, and his devoted brothers go with him to protect him. Samuel's foolish decision sets off a train of events that leaves many victims behind, except Tristan, who in the end is "the rock against which all others break."

Brad Pitt is marvelous in this film--although a bit overwrought at times, he can convey love, sincerity, integrity and humor, as well as brutality and insanity. Aidan Quinn, who seems to do mostly TV these days, is the pained older brother, who does everything right but is never loved. This sweeping epic won the Oscar for cinematography, and the prize was well-deserved. Be prepared for a few tough WWI scenes, and some gratuitous gore along the way, but the story grabs you and doesn't let go--you'll enjoy it.

Rage against Leviathon.......2007-02-17

Three sons grow up under the authority and love of a libertarian father. They fall in love with the same woman and sibling rivalry takes on a devastating turn. Each brother attempts to find his place in the world whether it be with the accepted norms of society, the revolutionaries, or the extreme individualist anarcho-libertarian life. Each pays a heavy price for his choice. A moving tale of relationships, government, and belonging. The Montana scenery is as much a star as any of the main characters. A wonderful piece of work that will leave you pondering the intricate plot themes.

A Good Introduction To American Legends.......2007-01-09

Overall, the DVD is a nice introduction for young children to four American legends. Disney has done a reasonable job of choosing how to present each hero. (If you love a particular version of one of the legends, you might be well served by looking for the right book.)

The best story is about John Henry. The animation (very stylized) and singing are very compelling and the story has a clear narrative which is powerful. My three year old is mesmerized by it. It's worth the purchase of the DVD alone.

The story of Johnny Appleseed is a bit more problematic. If you are a Christian, you _may_ find the story rendition delightful. Others may find the religious tones of this story inappropriate or troubling for your child. Given the history of Johnny Appleseed, though, it is hard to see how you could be faithful to the story and not deal with religion.

The Paul Bunyon story is a classic story cartoon. Many of his legends are pieced together in a likeable fashion with traditional animation. It's hard not to like it, but it isn't as compelling as the John Henry work.

Finally, the Casey Jones episode is muddled and slapstick. It is the least compelling of the stories and it mainly relies on physical humor to carry forward. It's a disappointing end to the collection of stories.

I'd recommend this to parents with young children as an introduction to some American cultural icons.

This is a wonderful way for children to learn about American historical figures. My 3 year old son was continually entertained by the songs and different animation. It is a must have on our Disney list.

Right from the start of this film, Director Edward Zwick and Cinematographer John Toll, take us on a magnificent journey through some of the most breathtaking vistas,shot mostly on the Stoney Indian Reserve near Calgary. Viewed throughout with James Horner's score is a beautiful experience right in your own living room.

Three brother's, their love for each other, their father, and for one woman is the main focus of the story. Tristan is the middle son, his father's favorite, he is as wild as the Montana country where they live in the early 1900's. It is he who we follow on a journey of darkness, enlightenment and finally self-discovery.It is an epic story,that follows the lives of the Ludlow family for many years, through WWI,passion, secrets, tragedies,and bonds.The tale is narrated by Gordon Tootoosis, a Chief of the Cree nation, who plays the mentor to Tristan and taught him well the ways of becoming one with nature.

Starring in this Cinematic treat are Brad Pitt(Tristan), Aidan Quinn,Henry Thomas, Sir Anthony Hopkins(Col. Ludlow), and as the woman they all love Julia Ormand(Suzanne).All turning in superb performances.

This DVD is called the "Deluxe Edition".I really love this film, but I wish Amazon would list here, what is "deluxe" about it. I have the "special edition" which is as much of a treat as the film itself. The film won an Academy Award for Best Cinematography in 1994 and it really shows on the "special edition". Colors are perfect,picture immaculate, and the sound(in 5.1 Dolby Digital)completes the total home theatre package.It is in widescreen.There's a ton of special features, including the making of featurette, some great commentary by Zwick and Pitt, and more. The movie can be played in several languages or with subtitles. So I repeat then to Amazon, what makes THIS a "Deluxe" edition, and to have a higher price tag, than the "Special Edition".Please list the features.

The film itself is 5 stars. If you've never seen it,this film has something for everyone: war,romance,western adventure,action,drama It will sweep you off your feet, and you will want to watch it again and again.

Without all the features listed here, it's hard to say which is the better buy(I did notice that the "deluxe" is also 1 disc, with the same run time), but I can tell you I am quite happy with the "special edition" and it is also a very good buy at this time.

Ramsey Knows Jazz!.......2007-01-08

This is the second of three DVD's covering the first year of this great PBS series.
The first volume featured such jazz luminaries as Phil Woods, George Duke and Al Jarreau. This, the second volume, features four areas of jazz, "The Piano Masters," "Roots: The Blues," "The American Songbook" and "Latin Jazz." Generous servings of each is presented by artists Billy Taylor, Dave Brubeck, Keb' Mo', Robert Cray, John Pizzarelli, Joan Monheit, Eddie Palmieri, and Dave Valentin.

Eddie and Dave give stunning performances. Salsa with an extra side of habanaros peppers.

Dave Brubeck and Billy Taylor are as fresh as ever and prove it with new performances of "Someday My Prince Will Come" and "All The Things You Are."

John Pizzarelli is as entertaining as he ever has been. John is primarily thought of as a singer, but I need to remind everyone that he is the son of Bucky Pizzarelli! He has his dad's genes. Listen to him burn-up his guitar during his solos!

Jane Monheit proves again that she knows her way around a torch song.

The blues section is well represented by Keb' Mo' and Robert Cray. Keb's selection is the kind of blues you would hear on Chicago's Maxwell street as presented by John Lee Hooker in the sixties. It is the blues ... period! Robert Cray's "My Last Regret," is stirring and needs to be heard by you.

This series is nicely packaged and include a companion CD with all the songs in the DVD.

Seems like this film lacks in about every area. It is a documentary and not a good one. Sort of skims the surface in all areas reviewed. The narration is weak at best and there are not enough details to make is historically correct.

I really liked this video. Outstanding interviews with some of the greatest legends in martial arts. The fight footage is also just as good. In my opinion, this video is definitely a keeper.

This video is awesome and shows these well known Legends at their best. The footage content is shown in both insightful interview form and in fight sequences that are amazing. I especially enjoyed the sequences on Chuck Norris,Fumio Demura and Dan Inosanto as well as Moses Powell amd Ron VanClief "the Black Dragon. Great production! Great representation of the developement of Martail Arts in America.

Rip off of Story Tellers.......2007-05-26

The footage they show of Green Day in this video was all from their Story Tellers show where they played the songs from American Idiot and answered questions from the crowd. What's worse is that this dvd seems to be a review of that show which was already a review with comments from Green Day themselves. Total waste of time and money. I am very easy to please but this is just painful.

This is a terrible DVD! Is necessary to inform all the buyer better informations about this DVD. This is not a musical DVD and don't have nothing speaking about. I hate this tipe of DVD!

it does what is says..........2006-05-09

I have got ALL g d concert dvds, so it thoguht it was kinda cool to hear more about the way the album was put together. Okay, i didnt always agree with the "critics" and experts, but made for a few heated discussions with the rest of boyz! It does what is says on the sleeve - it is a review, and is one of the best docs about g d.

i am a really bid g.d. fan and i thought it would show them performing on the dvd with virvana,ramones,ect. but they were just playing while the revewers were talking and i couldn't hear them. if i were you i would get bullet in a bible.
