Jay Jay and his buddies are the American aerial equivalent of England's Thomas the Tank Engine and cohorts: they have jobs to do, experience adventures along the way, and always learn valuable lessons in cooperation. The American sensibility is most apparent in Brenda Blue, Tarrytown Airport's mechanic/manager. Her role as a parent figure is more overt than Sir Topham Hat's of the British Thomas program, and she has "Think About Moments" in which she explains concepts like gravity and weather. Another difference is the kiddie voices belonging to the planes, helicopter, and tow truck. This compilation of the PBS series offers five 11-minute segments, featuring stories in which Oscar the biplane attempts to re-create a triumph from his stunt-plane days, the team prepares for Brenda's mom's arrival on Mother's Day, and the little propeller plane Snuffy tries to decide what birthday gift would be most useful. Ages 2 to 6. --Kimberly Heinrichs
Description
Contains five episodes. Snuffy's Favorite Color - Even though Snuffy's "Rainbow Song" was a big hit on Concert Day, it still bothers him that he wasn't able to come up with one favorite color. Brenda tells him he should try to figure out what it might be based on things that he loves. So, Snuffy takes off to figure it out. When a spring shower forces him to return to the hangar, where Brenda lovingly dries him off so he won't rust, it hits him! His favorite color is blue - like Brenda BLUE! She's the thing he loves most about the day! Super Loop-De-Loop - Over the radio, everyone listens to Winnie Winger, an old friend of Oscar's reminisce about Old Oscar being the first plane to ever do a dangerous stunt called the "double-over-under-upside-down-loop-de-loop." When Winnie comes to town, Oscar is worried because he thinks he has to perform this difficult stunt for his friend. Finally, Winnie explains that she didn't come to see the trick, she just came to visit her very special friend. Brenda's Mother's Day - Brenda's mother is coming to Tarrytown Airport and Tracy wants everything to be perfect. However, Tracy gets a little overzealous in her cleaning and accidentally spills paint all over the airport! Things are such a mess that Tracy worries she's ruined everything! But when Brenda's mother arrives, she's not mad at all. It turns out that what matters to her is spending time with her daughter and getting a chance to meet all of Brenda's airplane friends. Tuffy, The Tiny Tow-Truck - Revvin' Evan's cousin Tuffy wants to work at Tarrytown airport even though Jay Jay thinks Tuffy is too tiny to ever be able to tow planes. But when Jay Jay, Tracy and Snuffy get stuck on the side of a mountain, Tuffy shows he's tough enough for any job when he helps pull them out of the deep mud. Thanks to the tiny tow truck, Jay Jay learns to never again judge anyone based on size alone. What's important is the size of your heart and spirit! Snuffy's Birthday Surprise - Snuffy only wants one gift for his birthday - a snow blower! All of his friends are confused. How can a snow blower be any fun? But when Snuffy's big day arrives, they all find out. Snuffy takes his new snow blower up to Frosty Pines and creates a whole group of snowmen to help keep his friend Jack Frosty company! Thanks to Snuffy, the planes realize that the best present of all is to give something special to someone you love!

5 out of 5 stars If your child likes airplanes, Jay Jay is for you!.......2005-07-28

Great toddler videos and a whopping five segments to choose from. Good amount for the price. My 2 year old can't get enough of airplanes and now every airplane he sees is a "Jay Jay". Fun, educational videos for young ones.

5 out of 5 stars JAY JAY THE JET PLANE - SUPERSONIC PALS.......2005-07-27

My 4 yr loves this dvd, its fun and educational. She has learned the songs and ask to watch Jay Jay and his pals over and over again. Great Product - Kathy

5 out of 5 stars NOT LIKE THOMAS THE TANK ENGINE MOVIES!.......2005-02-23

What a crock, that editor that wrote the original editorial on these movies doesn't know what he's talking about!!! THomas the tank engine movies are about crochety, cranky trains who fight, argue and compete all the time. They are quite rude and mean to each other. Jay Jay the Jet Plane characters are more cooperative, and friendly towards each other. THey are more loveable, and learn lessons in a MORE FRIENDLY way. Not to mention, just adorable, and very MUSICAL!

5 out of 5 stars excellent!.......2003-02-03

My son received this as a gift. He's 8 months old and loves the jay jay episodes. His favorite part of the dvd is the sing along, especially the theme song. It's great with the dvd because I just sing along the the theme over and over (and over and over!) and he watches and laughs every time. He also likes the "Think About" clips and smiles at Brenda Blue whenever she comes on. The manufacturer really takes advantage of the DVD format to make it easy to keep my son happy by skipping around the disc.
