The sharp minds at the Children's Television Workshop have found a clever way to recycle their "letter of the day" animated shorts and entertainingly educate the youngsters. Elmo, Zoe, and Telly--along with three kids, of course--host this delightful a-to-y cartoonathon. (The missing z is part of the "plot.") The shorts are sandwiched between the catchy "Alphabet Jungle" song and the mesmerizing "African Animal Alphabet," which should get those little couch potatoes up and boogying down to the jungle beat. Adults within earshot may even find themselves indulging in a little toe-tapping. --Kimberly Heinrichs

5 out of 5 stars A must have for early readers........2007-03-08

My 10 year old son enjoyed this program (in VHS) when he was around a year old. He watched it many times a day and as a result, began reading at age 3. I do feel like the repetitive exposure of the catchy songs about the alphabet were definitely an aid in his early reading. I now have a 5 month old daughter and was excited to see it available in DVD format. She, at only 5 months, enjoys the catchy little songs/cartoons and also watches it a few times a day. I hope to see the same results in her reading skills as well. Some of the little cartoon/skits are "old-school" and I even remember watching them as a child. My husband and I find ourselves singing the songs all day long, that's how catchy they are. My only complaints are its only about a half an hour long, so it goes by quick and I'm not a big fan of all the dialogue amongst the puppets...I think the 2 year-olds enjoy it though. Overall, its worth the money if it helps your child excel at reading, and you can only find it on Amazon!

5 out of 5 stars Awesome!!!!.......2006-12-14

My 3 and half year old daughter and 18 month old son LOVE this DVD. Plus, being of the early Sesame Street generation, it is fun to hear some of the old classic cartoons...

2 out of 5 stars It IS a jungle..........2006-09-23

Boy, this DVD is just a jumble of old episodes, which are fine. But, it's just not cohesive overall. Feels very disjointed when watching it.

The good thing is my 2 year old loves watching it. She only learned "m" and "u" from this overpriced DVD, but at least she likes watching it.

I must say, I was afraid she wouldn't like "Meet The Letters" after watching this DVD countless times, but she does (I highly recommend Meet The Letters, if you want your young ones to actually learn). Oh, she could call out all the letters after watching "Meet The Letters" for about 2 weeks. Is it because she watched the jumbled "Jungle" for about 3 weeks earlier? Maybe. But, she sure heck didn't call out the letters while watching it (other than "M" and "U" as mentioned).

This is a good DVD that entertains. I would've actually gave it at least 3 stars if it weren't for the price ($[...] B&N), considering that they only had to create those few new scenes with Elmo, Zoey and Telly.

5 out of 5 stars Keeps him entertained.......2006-08-27

My son loves this DVD. He will laugh and sing along everytime. He is not much of a TV watcher but when this one is on he is entertained until the very end.

5 out of 5 stars My daughter loves it but I haven't watched it yet.......2006-07-26

I will watch it and give a better review later on content. I can tell you that she is intent on watching the video until it is finished and that is not the case all the time with her. She has to be entertained completely to sit through anything.
