Children's book publisher Scholastic has bundled video adaptations of five award-winning picture books on Curious George Rides a Bike... and come up with a treat for youngsters 4 to 9. Kids-lit purists will appreciate the spare animation; the title story and Flossie and the Fox, in fact, are not animated but rather proffer the books' original illustrations accompanied by a narrator's enjoyable readings. Curious George Rides a Bike is a classic episode in H.A. Rey's series in which George rides a bicycle into several misadventures. The Great White Man-Eating Shark, about a boy who uses his resemblance to a shark to scare swimmers, is even more witty with a touch of animation. The aforementioned Flossie is a cute tale about a girl who outwits a vain fox, while the ironic The Cat and the Canary and The Happy Lion, the latter about a Parisian lion who takes a stroll, both look wonderful here. --Tom Keogh

Not what I expected.......2007-06-06
This wasn't at all what I thought this movie was going to be. I don't know if I just didn't read the reviews or what, but it's only one story about George, and not animated. The other 4 stories are award winning books, some partially animated, some not. I bought it because my daughter loves curious George, but not this dvd, because it isn't about that monkey at all.
Not Animated, Not All George, But Not Bad Either.......2007-05-15
Although many reviewers (probably younger folks) give it as a reason to dislike the DVD, for my wife and I, the PRIMARY APPEAL of this early A/V version of Margaret and H.A. Rey's story is its filmstrip-like lack of animation, having both been saturated with filmstrips in parochial school. Our 2.5 year old and 1.5 year old LOVE it, as well as the other stories here. Honestly, I think the biggest reason for the poor ratings is the admittedly misleading front cover. Once past that, the video is just fine. It is in regular rotation in our house full of Curious George fans.

Sorry but not even my kids wanted to finish seeing this video. They never touch it again.
Very Disappointed!!!!!.......2007-03-31
Although the description says "animated", don't believe it!!! The only animation for the George clip is someone moving pictures of the character around!!! My granddaughter (4), kept asking when they were going to do something! The other parts--yes curious george has only one episode even though the title says other wise--were very disturbing to my granddaughter. All in all, money I shouldn't have spent!!! sandy ;^)
Runaway!.......2007-03-10
This video is so not worth the price! It is stills or ONE george book being read by a narrator and some other non Curious george stories as well. Buy you child the Movie they just made and the Zoo DVD which is what runs on PBS. I'm sure there will be more George on DVD in the furture.
