Bob the Tomato and Larry the Cucumber host another winning episode in this Christian-lite animated series aimed at 3-9 year olds, combining parable and parody in two lessons about fear. After watching a scary Frankencelery movie, Jr. Asparagus works through his fears of darkness and monsters to learn that "God is bigger than the Boogie Man." In Daniel and the Lions' Den, our cast of rollicking vegetables performs a highly engaging adaptation of the classic Bible story. Larry the Cucumber stars as God's humble and faithful servant Daniel. A supporting cast of green onions and asparagus--wisemen gone bad--sing their way to Daniel's fate: "We could use him as a footstool or a table to play Scrabble on then tie him up and beat him up and throw him out of Babylon." Co-creators Phil Vischer and Mike Nawrocki expertly combine classical, rock, jazz, and funk music with bold, energetic 3-D computer animation and plenty of witty dialogue. --Liane Thomas

Love These Veggies.......2007-03-24
My whole family loves the Veggie Tales. The stories are meaningful, the songs are catchy, and they are sprinkled with humor that appeals to both kids and adults. This particular dvd is our favorite!
Great for all.......2007-03-18
I am not a religious person by any means. But I do believe in God and I want my son to know that God exists and learn about God without feeling like he's being forced to do it. The Veggie Tales does this and makes it fun and funny for kids to learn about God. I even laughed while watching this video. My son asks me to play it for him all the time. I love it.
Pretty good video.......2006-11-04
Hi!I'm Eric! I'm 9 nine years old, and I'm a BIG fanatic of VeggieTales! Here's my review on this video:
We meet Bob and Larry for the first time, and they have received a letter from a girl who says she's scared of monsters. Larry tells how he was once thought there were monsters under his bed, but it was just his fuzzy slippers. Bob tells the girl to check if it's just her fuzzy slippers, and to watch the first story...
Tales From The Crisper:
We meet Junior Asparugus who is watching a scary Frankencelery movie. His mom tells him that it's time for bed, and she also says that maybe the show he's watching is too scary for him. He insists that he is not scared, but, as he's going upstairs, he looks at their family picture on the wall, he sees bolts coming out of his mom and dad's and his own head. He runs upstairs to his room and shuts the door. We then see Junior lying in his bed, hearing a noise from above. Bob and Larry fall down from the ceiling, and Bob explains he's here to help. Junior thinks there's something in his toy chest, but it turns to be Larry(who Junior mistakes for a pickle). Bob teaches him not to be afraid because God is with us, and sings him a song. But then, Frankencelery shows up in Junior's bedroom, and Junior is scared silly. Then Frankencelery explains that he's not really Frankencelery, he's Phil Winkelstien and he's an actor from Toledo, Ohio. Junior understands and sings the God Is Bigger song, and is no longer scared. I'll give this story 3 stars. The God Is Bigger song is great and very catchy.
But hold your horses, we are not finished yet! We are now introduced to SILLY SONGS WITH LARRY! He sings The Water Buffalo Song until Archie (who we first meet) points out that everybody does NOT have a water buffalo.
Daniel and the Lion's Den:
We're still not finished! The next story is about how Daniel was cast into the Lion's Den. The narrator explains that long ago in Babylon, Daniel had been taken captive by the Babylonians, and was now livng there. But one night, King Darius has a dream and calls for his wisemen. A song plays and the wisemen can't explain the dream to him. The king gets annoyed, but the smallest one tells the king about Daniel. When Daniel shows up, he's able to interpert the dream and the king dubs him 2nd in command. The Wisemen, however, are jealous of Daniel, and another song starts playing, and the wisemen think up ways to throw Daniel out of Babylon. They tell King Darius that the Babylonians should only pray to Him. Daniel, however, doesn't listen and still prays to God. The wisemen see him and throw him into the Lion's Den. The King is greatly depressed and prays to God that Daniel would be safe. The next morning, the King and the Wisemen rush to the den and find...DANIEL IS STILL ALIVE! And the story ends with Darius and Daniel chasing the Wisemen away.
I'll give this story 5 stars because it is so silly and fun! The music is great and very catchy. I'd recommend this for kids of all ages. Back on the countertop, Bob asks QWERTY THE COMPUTER if he has a verse. QWERTY misunderstands, and gives Bob a recipe for meatloaf. That part is funny! After understanding, QWERTY gives them a verse, and the show ends.
Well that's my review on this video. Hope it helps!
Great for parent and baby!!.......2006-02-24
I absolutely love this video. I saw it first several years ago when it first came out and realized that when I had my son, I would have to purchase a Veggie Tales collection for him. I bought this one and the "Rack, Shack, & Benny" video (which we also love)--my five month old loves these videos! Granted he doesn't understand the morals or plot line, but he loves the sing-song repetition and graphics. I find him laughing at it quite a bit. I love these videos and find that the humor is moreso targeted towards adults, so it makes it an enjoyable 30 minute viewing! I recommend these videos, this one in particular, to everyone, especially those with children.
