Even as Disney has reveled in the success of its high-end animated features, it occasionally sneaks a lesser effort into theaters, based on one of the many TV shows with which it dominates daytime TV. This one is based on perennial Disney favorite Goofy's adventures in domesticated bliss. Goofy is now a single dad; when son Max gets blamed for a prank gone wrong at school, Goofy blames himself and decides that, for his vacation, he's going to get away with Max alone. Of course, this is no treat for Max, who has just met the girl of his dreams and harbors no wish to spend the summer touring America with his square dad. The vacation is one disaster after another, though they aren't particularly funny disasters; the culmination involves Goofy's efforts to get Max backstage at a big rock concert. Strictly for young fans of the TV show. --Marshall Fine

In the great tradition of quality Disney animation, A GOOFY MOVIE is a classic blend of irresistible characters, unforgettable music, and an endearing modern-day story about how the lovable Goof bonds with his teenage son Max on a hilarious cross-country road trip. En route to the ol' fishing hole, they find themselves up to their floppy ears in misadventure! Will Max learn there's nothing wrong with taking after dear old dad ... if he is a little goofy? The question is answered in the showstopping finale when Max and Goofy "crash the stage" at the most spectacular rock concert ever performed! Filled with action-packed scenes, narrow escapes -- even a comic close encounter with Bigfoot -- Disney's critically acclaimed hit comedy is a delightfully memorable adventure your family will love taking again and again!

For Reno 911 fans who believe that Comedy Central's improv-driven mock-reality series could benefit from more unbleeped profanity, uncensored sex scenes, and nudity, the feature-length R-rated Miami will be just the ticket. Perhaps less a movie than it is a Very Special Episode, Miami transplants short-shorts-bedecked Lt. Dangle (Thomas Lennon) and company to Miami for the American Police Convention ("They invited everybody"). No sooner can you say "bio-terrorism" than the hotel is quarantined, and Wahoe County's hapless misfits, shut out when their credentials can't be found, must step in and save the city from "complete chaos." Complete chaos ensues. As with the series, Miami unfolds in a series of hit and miss bits. The funniest are those that hew closest to the Cops template, such as an early "814" call that does not, as the officers believe, decode as armed intruder, but actually involves a loose chicken, and an encounter with a taunting good ol' boy who, when faced with an alligator in a swimming pool, boldly goes where officers Jones (Cedric Yarbrough) and Garcia (Carlos Alazraqui) fear to tread.

Happily, as was not the case with Borat, no innocent or unsuspecting citizens were emotionally harmed during the making of this movie. All of the jokes and humiliations are at the Reno squad's expense. Miami benefits from some subtle (and not so subtle) stunt casting, including Patton Oswalt (The King of Queens) in a small but pivotal role as the deputy assistant mayor, and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's hilarious, albeit short-lived cameo as a gung-ho bomb squad leader. It is a tribute to the crack ensemble that Reno's intimately etched characters do not need much of an introduction, and can be appreciated by those who have not seen the show. But longtime viewers are issued this warning that Miami crosses with even more impunity the thin blue line of good taste. A Rear Window homage in which we view each officer indulging in some alone time in their fleabag motel rooms may not be as bad as Borat's wrestling match, but really, there ought to be a law! --Donald Liebenson

Description

The story centers on a rag-tag team of Reno cops that are called in to save the day after a terrorist attack disrupts a national police convention in Miami Beach during spring break. They're not the best, but that's all we got. Based on the successful Comedy Central TV series.

5 out of 5 stars Hilarious!.......2007-07-07

If you love tuning in to the series for comic relief, the movie version will not disappoint you. I believe they could've kept rolling the cameras and made a hilarious three hour movie. I'd have certainly watched the entire thing. I can't get enough of these characters! This is a skit that shows our beloved misfits at their best. Miami never knew what hit them...

4 out of 5 stars good movie.......2007-07-05

If your like me, and love the Reno 911 TV show, then this dvd is a must own. I found it to be very funny at times.

4 out of 5 stars Sets the benchmark for Police Parody..........2007-07-03

With earlier reviews that have been posted, it's just not necessary for me to delve into specifics about the why I enjoyed this movie. If you enjoy dry, dark, and crude humour, this movie is for you.

Enough said.

5 out of 5 stars Comedy Genius - Good Production.......2007-07-02

Whoever gives this movie less than a full 5 stars is a comedic idiot. Do you know how rare it is for a TV show of this variety to succeed at all in adapting their material to the big screen? Let alone do it with the cohesiveness and consistency that this movie pulls off? It is done in mini comedy vignettes, just like the TV show, and manages to stay hilarious for 99% of the movie. And I'm tough. This blows away any comedy in recent memory and even beats the readily compared super troopers by a long shot. A real long shot. In short, as long as you don't have a limited social filter when rating your enjoyment of movies, you really can't lose with this comedy.

5 out of 5 stars greatest movie of all time.......2007-07-02

this movie is hilllarious, its not exactly like the show, but has some of the same elements, but they made it feel a little more like a movie on parts, the features on the unrated dvd are great, and its in widescreen and the theatrical is in fullscreen only, i was highly impressed with that

5 out of 5 stars Best. Cop. Movie. Ever........2007-07-01

Not only is this movie *hilarious*, it's also an homage to police movies from noir to boom-boom, with a bit of "Shaun of the Dead" thrown in for good measure.

One minute you're hearing an echo from "Chinatown" ("Forget it, Nick...It's Sandford."), then you're hearing from SotD ("What, haven't you ever taken a short cut before?"), seeing action from "Point Break", and who'll ever forget the penultimate scene, complete with birds taking off, a la John Woo, in any of his action movies.

These guys took every cop movie cliche, put it into less than two hours, didn't demean the sources, made it funny *and* tense (my wife actually *screamed* at one scene), and ended up with a movie I'll see again and again.

Best. Movie. Ever.

5 out of 5 stars Hot Fuzz-- Simply Brilliant.......2007-06-23

There are some who have seen this film and said that it was full of gore, it was repetitive, and much too full of 'that hollywood stuff'. For those who feel this way--I'm afraid you've missed the point.

The point of this film is simply to, in a comedic way, blend the mundane story of an English Policeman, with the over-the-top 'explosions and guts' style of Hollywood; Hence the flower gardens and decapitation.

This isn't a Hugh Grant film- this is an Edgar Wright handmade, Bad Boys II meets Evil Dead II remix, wrapped around the genius of heterosexual life partners, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost.

It has explosions. It has guts. It has insanely long gun fights. And you know what? It also has one hell of a script; Borrowing from almost every cop movie ever made, it also manages to incorporate the unique quips and inside jokes belonging to Pegg and Wright.

By the power of Grayskull!

POSSIBLE SPOILER BELOW

Jokes range from a simple, yet effective 'Yarp', to a lengthy and surprising scene starring one Mr. David Bradley (Mr. Filch to you Potter fans) and one olympic mine.

Excellent comedy, suspensful horrorshow, and one hell of a show.

I recommend to all.

3 out of 5 stars Bloody mess.......2007-06-20

OK, at first I thought this was a slapstick type comedy, so I was not sure what to expect. At least - I thought - it would be in the same category as The Full Monty - English humor and great, authentic acting.

But, it looks like the Hollywood influence kept this movie from being as funny and and as entertaining as it could have been. The acting was okay, but the story should have been the strongest feature.

Instead the producers made it all about the blood and the violence. And I am not sure if I do not "get" the British humor in it, but I think that it could have been funny and witty without all the violence that went on and on and on.....

Again, maybe I just did not "get it" but I left the film feeling like it was a bloodgasm - rather than a real film. Have the English stooped that low - to compete with Hollywood?

5 out of 5 stars Hot Fuzz.......2007-06-18

Well done Brits. Again far more innovative and intelligently made movies that are far superior to the mass produced cheese we have sent out from Hollywood! Simon Pegg is a great example of how we should start looking to europe and educating ourselves in what the movie industry should be.

1 out of 5 stars Awful movie.......2007-06-15

Everything about his movie is crap. It's supposed to be funny but it's not, the story is idiotic and has been told a million times before in other movies, the acting is awful, and the movie has been edited like an MTV music video.

Shaun of the dead was average but this is really bad!!!

5 out of 5 stars Grow a funny bone, why don't you?.......2007-06-12

This is one of the funniest movies I have ever seen. All the actors/actresses play an integral part in this movie. I guess that some people can't think "outside the box". Not every movie has to make sense or have a solid plot to be good or funny. Sometimes stupid humor works, and this is one of those occasions.

5 out of 5 stars Better than Shaun of the Dead!.......2007-07-08

This was a GREAT movie! If you liked Shaun of the Dead you are going to love this movie because it is more of the same but twice as good. The jokes are a breath of fresh air compared to what traditional "Hollywood" thinks is funny these days and the two main actors have the same kind of repor that you are already used to from their previous movie.

Bottomline is this is a great action comedy. The main character is believable, and his sidekick is very lovable. Another great flick for fans of HD DVD!

This movie makes my top ten favorite flicks ever, joining the likes of Super Troopers and Harold and Kumar Go to Whitecastle. An instant classic!

5 out of 5 stars Laugh out loud.......2007-06-27

A hilarious buddy-cop film with Britain's best buds, Pegg and Frost. Set in a perfect sleepy country town, the action and edge to the film couldn't be more surprising. Hilarious-and-yet-sinister locals, straightman cop, you have to laugh out loud at the interaction. If you liked "Shaun of the Dead," you will love this latest feature by quite a creative team.

Nicholas Angel is the finest cop London has to offer, with an arrest record 400% higher than any other officer on the force. He's so good, he makes everyone else look bad. As a result, Angel's superiors send him to a place where his talents won't be quite so embarrassing - the sleepy and seemingly crime-free village of Sandford. Once there, he is partnered with the well-meaning but overeager police officer Danny Butterman. The son of amiable Police Chief Frank Butterman, Danny is a huge action movie fan and believes his new big-city partner might just be a real-life "bad boy," and his chance to experience the life of gunfights and car chases he so longs for. Angel is quick to dismiss this as childish fantasy and Danny's puppy-like enthusiasm only adds to Angel's growing frustration. However, as a series of grisly accidents rocks the village, Angel is convinced that Sandford is not what it seems and as the intrigue deepens, Danny's dreams of explosive, high-octane, car-chasing, gunfighting, all-out action seem more and more like a reality. It's time for these small-town cops to break out some big-city justice.

Product Description

How far would you go to get the person of your dreams? In the first Eating Out, Kyle (Jim Verraros) convinced his straight roommate to pretend to be gay in order to get the girl. Now, with the help of Gwen (Emily Brooke Hands) and Tiffani (Rebekah Kochan), Kyle pretends to be heterosexual in order to land Troy (Marco Dapper), the new guy (and nude model) who's turning the heads of both men and women. He soon finds himself joining the campus ex-gay support group and nabbing a girlfriend (Tiffany)! Kyle's ex-boyfriend Marc (Brett Chukerman) is horrified at the plan and decides to pursue the confused Troy with his own tactic -- being his "out" gay self. Who will win Troy first? In the boy eat boy, boy eat girl, bisexual mystique of Eating Out 2, the stakes are raised, sexual boundaries are obliterated, and the answer is never what you might expect!

4 out of 5 stars Very sexy gay comedy.......2007-07-05

Delivers on all counts, well-written, well-acted, etc. Plus the eye candy is incredible with tonnes of beefcake and male nudity to keep us happy, including the sensational full frontal by Marco Dapper (make sure you get the unrated version). Not to be missed.

5 out of 5 stars if you loved the first this was beter.......2007-06-27

if you like cheesey comedy you love this one because it is loaded with sex and horney driven people. It was a laugh a minet and one of the male leads is well lets just put it this way puts alot of men to same:).

5 out of 5 stars Good not so clean fun!.......2007-06-14

First, let's get this out of the way, this isn't an Oscar-contending, high brow, expensive piece of cinematic art...but this is a great movie that will do a great job of making you feel good. Although it may be considered low brow entertainment, I think the film is a competent commentary on contemporary expressions of love and attraction--why do you have to be gay or straight or carry any label, just love who you love!!

All in all, I think the characters are superbly portrayed, and the acting and directing (in my untrained eye) are all quite well done. If you want to see a great movie that doesn't mind poking fun at everyone with any kind of sexuality, check this one out!

4 out of 5 stars Fun Fluff on the Outside, Some Solid Statements on the Inside.......2007-06-07

'Eating Out 2: Sloppy Seconds' is a sequel that is not really a sequel - unless the common thread of social attitudes and gender dilemmas as an ongoing tale is the source. A low budget, well scripted, tightly directed (Phillip J. Bartell) little film about gay relationships, attraction blunders, and pretending to be something we aren't (mixed representations that Shakespeare used a lot!) result in a light and ultimately charming little movie.

Kyle (Jim Verraros) loves Marc (Brett Chukerman) but tires of Marc's obsession with one-night stands and the relationship is 'over'. Pining Kyle is supported by his two loony girl friends Tiffani (Rebekah Kochan) and Gwen (Emily Brooke Hands), each with gender attraction problems of her own. In an art class taught by flamboyant pseudo-straight Neil (Michael Serrato) the three meet the new nude model Troy (superstud Marco Dapper) and together they hatch a plan to repair Kyle's old damage: Troy for all his demeanor is a bisexual who wants to be straight.... maybe and supplies the key to a game of deceit. The manner in which Kyle fakes a relationship with Tiffani in order to convince Troy to join him in a 'change-over program' (read, get close to him...) leads to a series of hilarious 'go straight' classes and confrontation with parents who play both sides of the 'support our sons' game and leads to a perky ending that just happens to make some comments on perceptions of people, with reality winning.

The cast is young (with the exception of Mink Stole and Sarah Lilly, both of whom offer solid professional backgrounds to their roles) and attractive and seems to be having a great time pulling off this light farce. There is plenty of spectacular eye candy (Marco Dapper, Brett Chukerman, Nicholas James, Adrian Quinonez, James Michael Bobby, etc) and the women's roles are kept light and genuine. A great movie it is not, but a fun diversion it most assuredly is. Grady Harp, June 07

4 out of 5 stars Entertaining fun farce, kind of a gay "Friends".......2007-05-31

Kyle recently broke up with his boyfriend Mark, and is whining about it to his best friends/fag hags, Tiffani and Gwen, when he gets a pleasant surprise in their college art class: a jaw-droppingly gorgeous nude male model named Troy. Troy is also a student at the college, and admits he has had some same-sex experiences, but feels they were wrong and that he needs to find a "best buddy" who can help him go straight. Kyle pretends to be a "reformed" homosexual himself, in order to get close to Troy, and accompanies him to a meeting of the school's "ex-gay" support group. Meanwhile, Mark sees Kyle with Troy and gets jealous, and tries to get close to Troy himself. In the end, everyone bands together to expose (literally) the hypocritical leader of the ex-gay group.

"Eating Out 2: Sloppy Seconds" (2006) is the supposed sequel to 2004's original "Eating Out" film, and has characters and actors (with the exception of Ryan "Desperate Housewives" Carnes, who was replaced by Brett Chuckerman in the role of Mark), although it is actually a stand-alone story that doesn't require familiarity with the first film. The actors (especially former "America Idol" contender Jim Verranos as Kyle) seem to be more comfortable in their roles this time around, newcomer Marco Dapper (as Troy) shows significant acting ability, and there are more funny scenes than cringe-inducing ones this time around. The film is also improved by the casting of Mink Stole as Kyle's mom, Adrian Quinonez (from Here!TV's "Dante;s Cove") as one of the (not-so)ex-gays, and Michael Serrato (from Logo's "Big Gay Sketch Show") as a flamboyant art teacher. Besides the hypocrisy of many in the ex-gay movement, the story also tries to teach lessons on parental acceptance and trust in a relationship, but it really doesn't register on that level. DVD includes "making of" featurette and director commentary.
Don't expect great filmmaking; it's obviously a low-budget farce, and works well on that level. Based strictly on the story and direction, I'd give it only three stars, but it gets an extra star for being great fun and providing some dazzling eye candy!

Product Description

Blast off for outrageously funny space travel in this screwball comedy that spins wildly out of control all the way to Mars! Though he's a whiz with computers, accident-prone astro-nut Fred Randall (comedian Harland Williams - "Dumb And Dumber") is the last guy on Earth you'd want on the first manned mission to Mars. But as bad luck and poor timing would have it, that's exactly what happens and Fred undergoes rigorous, if not hilarious, training at NASA. After that, it's t-minus a reality check as Fred blasts off with the rest of the space shuttle crew: a cocky, non-nonsense Commander, a sexy Mission Specialist and a mischievous space chimp named Ulysses. From the dizzying preflight foolishness to the even loonier landing, Rocketman is the out-of-this-world hit comedy that's more than go for launch, it's go for laughs!

4 out of 5 stars Rocketman.......2007-06-08

This movie is just a funny movie. You wont grow as a person. It doesn't solve any world problem. It doesn't have a social agenda. This is just a movie you will enjoy.
One criticism is that the movie does not have any chapter selection.
You cant jump to a favorite part or start later in the movie.
That is my only complaint.

5 out of 5 stars Hilarious!.......2007-06-08

My family and I are not avid movie watchers, but when we first saw this movie we absolutely could not stop laughing. We rented it before buying it, and had a seven day rental - during which time we watched the movie 10 times! There is something to be said when a family that does not watch movies much, watches a single movie that many times in that brief of a time period. Watch this movie once, and you will only want to see it again and again!

5 out of 5 stars A MUST HAVE!!!!!.......2007-06-07

Rocketman is one of the funniest movies you will see. Harland Williams is just great here. He is a great comedic actor and it shows. This is a must have in your dvd collection and I thank Disney for finally putting it in this format.

4 out of 5 stars Rocketman.......2007-06-01

The only bummer is that there is no skip function on the disc but it was a funny movie!

5 out of 5 stars Rocketman!!!!.......2007-05-28

I got the DVD like a week or two after I ordered it! It got to me so fast!
I absolutely love this movie...it's HILARIOUS!!!!

Given that Office Space is a bona fide cult classic, it comes as some surprise that Mike Judge's follow-up wasn't more heavily promoted. Granted, this live-action comedy is a darker, more pointed proposition, but it's unfortunate that few theater patrons got the opportunity to, well, judge for themselves. In Idiocracy, the King of the Hill creator visualizes what would happen if Devo's proposition--that mankind is in the process of devolution--came to pass. The catalyst: the overeducated start having fewer children while the undereducated have more. Enter Joe (Luke Wilson), a military librarian with no family and even less ambition. The Pentagon chooses him for a top-secret hibernation project due to his extreme "average-ness." They select Rita (SNL's Maya Rudolph), a prostitute, for the same reason. When the experiment goes haywire, the two emerge 500 years later--rather than one. Now it's 2505 and they're the brightest people in the over-polluted land. Everyone else is, basically, Beavis and Butt-head. Yes, the satire couldn't be less subtle, but the premise gives Judge license to make as much fun of junk food pop culture as dystopian classics like 1984 and Planet of the Apes. Wilson wisely plays it straight, even if the actors who surround him sometimes succumb to excess. And the effects may be cheesy, but that just adds to the fun. Idiocracy features former footballer Terry Crews (Everybody Hates Chris) as President Camacho and Dax Shepard (Punk'd) as Joe's futuristic friend Frito. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

Description

From Mike Judge, one of the creative minds behind Beavis and Butt-Head, King of the Hill and Office Space, comes an outrageous sci-fi comedy that'll make you think twice about the future of mankind.

Meet Joe Bowers (Luke Wilson). He's not the sharpest tool in the shed. But when a government hibernation experiment goes awry, Bowers awakens in the year 2505 to find a society so dumbed-down by mass commercialism and mindless TV programming that he's become the smartest guy on the planet. Now it's up to an average Joe to get human evolution back on track!

Filled with razor-sharp sarcasm and outrageous sight gags, Idiocracy will make you laugh out loud whether you're an absolute genius or a complete idiot!

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Pretty Good.......2007-07-08

This is a very good movie very in the flavor of what Mike Judge usually does. It contains a lot of social satire and a funny view of the future. Also how Dax Shepherd ever did such a voice is beyond me. This is a very quotable movie. It is sad this movie never came to theaters nor was it ever advertised so it is very easy to overlook this very good movie. My only complaint is that the film is a bit on the short side.

3 out of 5 stars Smarter Than the Audience..........2007-07-06

...but that's not saying much, is it? It reminds me of another box office bomb, American Dreamz, in that it's ahead of its time...if only by a few years. Perhaps Fox should have held onto it for a few more years before releasing it?

But I think the movie has deeper problems than being "lost" on audiences unwilling to accept satire. Look at Talledega Nights--a mockery of Nascar, which was accepted by Nascar fans in red states.

It's not that IDIOCRACY is not funny--much of it is hilarious. There are little nuggets here and there that will stay with you forever, particularly the bit about feeding Gatorade to plants because "it's got what plants crave!"

The story never really gels, though, thanks in part to a screenplay that relies on voice-over narration to carry the viewer from one scene to the next. And every second that Maya Rudolph's one-joke character struts in front of the camera is another second of your life that you'll never get back.

5 out of 5 stars Laugh out loud funny.......2007-07-05

It's funny in the sense of Dumb and Dumber. But this movie is absolutely hilarious. Luke Wilson plays his normal whimsical average guy, but only now he is the smartest man on earth.

4 out of 5 stars Great Movie.......2007-07-03

After seeing this movie at a friend's house I had to have it. Mike Judge again creates a very underrated but hilarious movie. I sure do hope the world does not turn out like this. Not an over abundance of special features, but this wasn't the most hyped movie either. Good addition to any collection.

1 out of 5 stars You Can't Play Dumb, Dumb.......2007-07-02

The great sin here is that the film makers didn't see the irony of making a movie as moronic as the society they tried to parody. Judging from most of the reviews here society may already be further gone than we feared.

Mel Brooks scored his first commercial hit with this raucous Western spoof starring the late Cleavon Little as the newly hired (and conspicuously black) sheriff of Rock Ridge. Sheriff Bart teams up with deputy Jim (Gene Wilder) to foil the railroad-building scheme of the nefarious Hedley Lamarr (Harvey Korman). The simple plot is just an excuse for a steady stream of gags, many of them unabashedly tasteless, that Brooks and his wacky cast pull off with side-splitting success. The humor is so juvenile and crude that you just have to surrender to it; highlights abound, from the lunkheaded Alex Karras as the ox-riding Mongo to Madeline Kahn's uproarious send-up of Marlene Dietrich as saloon songstress Lili Von Shtupp. Adding to the comedic excess is the infamous campfire scene involving a bunch of hungry cowboys, heaping servings of baked beans and, well, you get the idea. --Jeff Shannon

Description

The railroad's got to run through the town of Rock Ridge. How do you drive out the townfolk in order to steal their land? Send in the toughest gang you've got...and name a new sheriff who'll last about 24 hours. But that's not really the plot of Blazing Saddles, just the pretext. Once Mel Brooks' lunatic film many call his best gets started, logic is lost in a blizzard of gags, jokes, quips, puns, howlers, growlers and outrageous assaults upon good taste or any taste at all. Cleavon Little as the new lawman, Gene Wilder as the wacko Waco Kid, Brooks himself as a dim-witted politico and Madeline Kahn in her Marlene Dietrich send-up that earned an Academy Award nomination all give this sagebrush saga their lunatic best. And when Blazing Saddles can't contain itself at the finale, it just proves the Old West will never be the same!

5 out of 5 stars One of the funniest movies ever made.......2007-07-07

I dont know why but I cant get enough of this movie. The humour is really funny and there are so many scenes I enjoy, but none I can type down. If you enjoy comedy, then this movie is for you.

5 out of 5 stars Blazing Saddles.......2007-07-03

Tastelessly ribald spoof of Hollywood Westerns packs a lot of silly madcap comedy into its 90-minute running time. Just about everyone imaginable becomes the target of Mel Brooks's shamelessly funny lampooning, and Harvey Korman, Slim Pickens, and the great Gene Wilder turn in some of the loopiest performances of their careers. Madeline Kahn is especially memorable as Lilli Von Shtupp, a Marlene Dietrich-like chanteuse. If you're in the mood for humor that's lewd, crude and unabashedly infantile, hitch your wagon to "Blazing Saddles".

5 out of 5 stars Funny, Funnier, Funniest.......2007-06-18

The first movie that my wife watched in one sitting and wanted to see again the next evening. Side splitting and healthy slapstick as only Mel could make.

1 out of 5 stars Classic scenes are cut out.......2007-06-10

If you like this movie, DO NOT buy this edition, as some classic scenes have been cut out of this early-DVD era release. Buy the 30th anniversary edition instead.

3 out of 5 stars Enjoyable once in awhile.......2007-06-01

Frankly, I don't find Blazing Saddles to be THAT funny. It's a movie that you can enjoy watching about once every ten years or so, but not any more often. Mongo is funny, and Gene Wilder gives a fantastic dramatic performance as always. Otherwise, there's not much about Blazing Saddles that's really that amazing. It's amusing, but not once did I laugh out loud. And even though it is obviously used to make a political statement, the repeated use of the "N" word still turned me off. I know it was being used tongue-in-cheek, but like most of the bits in this movie, I just didn't find it funny. Another mark against this movie is that due to its age, many of the cameos and cultural references go over the head of people today, not even realizing who they are seeing or that certain things are being parodied. Overall, more boring than funny, even when you know what the references are.

You don't have to be a Star Trek fan to enjoy Galaxy Quest, but it certainly helps. A knowingly affectionate tribute to Trek and any other science fiction TV series of the 1960s and beyond, this crowd-pleasing comedy offers in-jokes at warp speed, hitting the bull's-eye for anyone who knows that (1) the starship captain always removes his shirt to display his manly physique; (2) any crew member not in the regular cast is dead meat; and (3) the heroes always stop the doomsday clock with one second to spare. So it is with Commander Taggart (Tim Allen) and the stalwart crew of the NSEA Protector, whose intergalactic exploits on TV have now been reduced to a dreary cycle of fan conventions and promotional appearances. That's when the Thermians arrive, begging to be saved from Sarris, the reptilian villain who threatens to destroy their home planet.

Can actors rise to the challenge and play their roles for real? The Thermians are counting on it, having studied the "historical documents" of the Galaxy Quest TV show, and their hero worship (not to mention their taste for Monte Cristo sandwiches) is ultimately proven worthy, with the help of some Galaxy geeks on planet Earth. And while Galaxy Quest serves up great special effects and impressive Stan Winston creatures, director Dean Parisot (Home Fries) is never condescending, lending warm acceptance to this gentle send-up of sci-fi TV and the phenomenon of fandom. Best of all is the splendid cast, including Sigourney Weaver as buxom blonde Gwen DeMarco; Alan Rickman as frustrated thespian Alexander Dane; Tony Shalhoub as dimwit Fred Kwan; Daryl Mitchell as former child-star Tommy Webber; and Enrico Colantoni as Thermian leader Mathesar, whose sing-song voice is a comedic coup de grâce. --Jeff Shannon

5 out of 5 stars Loved It........2007-05-24

This was just plain outright funny. Pokes fun at the Trekkies out there. Tim Allen is super as is Sigourny Weaver. Two thumbs up.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent Star Trek Spoof.......2007-05-16

Tim Allen mocking Captain Kirk, Sigourney Weaver repeating everything the ship's computer says, classic. Bored, bitter and alcoholic from touring the conventions, the washed up has beens are suddenly beamed onto a ship modeled on their TV series and expected to defeat a formidable foe. The problem is -- even though their hosts expect them to know how to do everything (after all, they did on the show) -- they initially can't even perform basic tasks. This is a silly movie, but if you liked Star Trek and can handle some silliness, this is among the best you can get.

4 out of 5 stars Good for a Laugh.......2007-05-13

Personally, I think this movie is pretty cheesy, and it isn't one of my favorites. My husband, however, thinks it is a riot. He loves it. He laughs out loud every time he watches it. For me, it is worth watching it just to see my husband's reaction.
We both like the characters and how it plays off of Star Trek. I think the acting is good.

5 out of 5 stars A geek's treasure........2007-04-16

Excellent and funny movie that pokes fun at "Star Trek". If you like sci-fi and funny movies you will like this one.

4 out of 5 stars Hilarious parody of "Star Trek" et al........2007-04-08

The humor in this movie works on two levels. First is the comedy that results from the movie's basic premise: a bunch of TV actors suddenly find themselves in exactly the same sorts of adventures they used to act out on screen, only now it's real. But second, and even funnier in my opinion, is the humor derived from parodying the entire world of science fiction, and its all to often rabid, religiously devoted fans.

It also showcases the darker side of being involved with a pop-culture phenomenon: actors who become so closely identified with their roles, they find they simply can't get work doing anything else. I imagine the real cast of "Star Trek" could feel how close to the mark this hits (and George Reeves, TV's Superman of the 1950s, may have even killed himself in despair at suffering this fate). The most memorable scene in the movie for me was Alan Rickman's delivery of the line "By Grabthar's Hammer, I've never seen such savings." His rigid posture, hesitant speech, and stony facial expression are hilarious. He's a classicly trained actor who's become pigeonholed in a role he considers beneath him, and he has been reduced to the humiliation of uttering childish drivel at store openings. For all that much of the movie is made in the spirit of William Shatner's famous SNL "get a life" skit, the movie takes an affectionate look at fans, and two sci-fi geeks even provide indispensible help to the heroes in the end.

The off-Broadway comedy-horror-musical hit that ran for years makes a successful transfer to film with a bevy of big-name cameos and two perfectly cast leads. Rick Moranis is the nebbish Seymour, who pines for flower-girl Audrey (Ellen Greene) while living in the basement of florist Mr. Mushnik (Vincent Gardenia). Things start turning around for Seymour, though, after he buys a little plant during a solar eclipse, christens it Audrey II, and discovers that it likes to drink blood. Soon enough, though, Seymour finds out that Audrey II, now grown to epic proportions, is in actuality a "mean green mother from outer space" that is hell-bent on world domination. Based on the 1960 Roger Corman cheapie that featured a young Jack Nicholson, Little Shop boasts a hilarious, amazing score by Howard Ashman and Alan Menken, who would go on to revitalize Disney's animation arm with The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast. Greene, the lone holdover from the original cast, is a ravishing, goofy Audrey, whose awkward demeanor belies a voice that could knock Ethel Merman off her feet. She's ably matched by Moranis, whose lack of a singing voice is perfectly in sync with Seymour's nerdiness. And Levi Stubbs Jr. of the Four Tops provides the lowdown, nasty-minded voice of Audrey II; his rendition of the Oscar-nominated "Mean Green Mother from Outer Space" is a showstopper. As for those celebrity cameos, Steve Martin's sadistic dentist is a masterful creation, as is Bill Murray's masochistic patient; John Candy, James Belushi, and Christopher Guest also pop up. And there was never a lovelier and funkier Greek chorus than the three Motown-fueled girls (Tichina Arnold, Michelle Weeks, and Tisha Campbell) who appear throughout the film. --Mark Englehart

5 out of 5 stars The second best musical of all times.......2007-05-15

I first saw this when I was about 12. I hated it at first because I wasn't mature enough to watch it with out having nightmares. Luckely after occasionaly watching it over a period of about two years I final was able to to watch the whole movie from beginiing to end without stopping except for bathroom breaks. If you saw the original black and white version of this made in the sixties and the off brodway play which ran four about four years in New York. I also thought I would inform you that the whole alternate first ending is not include on this dvd. The al;ternate nding was only avilable for about the first three days the dvd was avilable for sale on line and in stores when it first came out. Unfortunately Mr. Griffen had not given approval to have the alternate ending included on the dvd so only fragments of it remain on the second release of it. When young rick morransis discovers a mystery planet trouble some comes up. Can rick tame this blood thirst monster will he is forced to murder to feed it;s growing hunger. I also thought I'd inform you that two of the members of this cast are currently decased. John Candy died from a heart prtoblem I belive it was shorly after his role as Barf in spaceballs the famous spoof of the starwars triology that came out after this. In addition shortly before the dvd release vincent Garden also passed away. Can seymor control this monster of nature and what fate lies in store for the human race. Find out in thrilling action packed hillarious finally. This movie should be fine for kids 13 and up due to mild gory images mild rude humor mild violence in a couple of parts, intensity and occasional inapropriate language at the begining, middle and the end of the movie.

5 out of 5 stars Funny with a great Soundtrack!.......2007-04-06

I'm not crazy about musicals, but if the music's right and the story's tight, then I can be sold. I fell in love with this movie when I first saw it and I still love it today. I also admire the original by Roger Corman. Who can resist a giant wise cracking plant that eats people and sings! Gotta love it.

5 out of 5 stars Humorously Devious.......2007-03-23

I have nothing but respect for the puppeteers who controlled dear Audrey II. That plant ran the show, no doubt about it.

As musicals go this is one of the greatest, only second to Rocky Horror.

Rick Moranis is brilliant, and Ellen Greene has such an amazingly deep voice for such a tiny woman.

The three women singing throughout the movie gave me chills with every note. The vocal in this film are surprising and beautiful.

The story itself is brilliantly funny and horrific, it will have you laughing and cowering at the same time.

A true classic and worth watching...again, and again and again.
