A big hit with kids as young as 2 years old (though preschoolers tend to find it absolutely hilarious), Best Silly Stories and Videos begins with Huckle Cat and Lowly Worm making their way to a library, where they check out a book about silly stories, three of which come to life. Forgetful Mr. Rabbit strolls into fresh tar, extracts himself, and vows never to ignore his surroundings again--all while heading toward the edge of a dock. The next tale is a series classic about the incompetent Mr. Fix-It and his confusion over sorting out the pieces of broken toys. (He manages to make a cuckoo clock ring like a bell, a fire truck cry "Mama," and a doll screech like a siren.) The last vignette concerns a father and his twin children, who get into numerous misadventures when Dad leaves his glasses behind somewhere. Kids love it when they see the hapless pop mistake a succession of vehicles--including a fire truck and a banana mobile--for his own car. The songs scattered throughout this video also have comic appeal. --Tom Keogh

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Richard Scarry's Best Silly Stories and Songs Video Ever.......2006-11-10

This is one of the best children's videos that we have. Our three year old grandson loves the characters and sits quietly while watching it. It is excellent for pre bedtime or anytime he needs to rest. The songs are memorable and the little characters are sweet and polite.

My 4 year old son loves these videos, we had owned all but this one. He watches this one over and over because the stories in this video are in his books, so now he sees them 'come to life' on tv. Highly recommend these videos as they contain nice gentle songs and dialogue. Very relaxing to watch for my son and not annoying for me.

1 out of 5 stars Richard Scarry's WORST Silly Stories and Songs Video Ever!.......2005-08-07

I love Busytown, but this has got to be one of the worst Busytown videos ever! One of us was always scared of the Mr. Fix-It part. The problem was we only had one television, so my sisters had to always watch it downstairs while I was downstairs. I think Mr. Fix-It should learn how to fix things correctly, don't you agree? I reccomend the Counting video and the Spelling Bee video for kids instead of this haunted Mr. Fix-It movie.

5 out of 5 stars Great for a wide age range.......2005-07-11

Both my kids love this DVD. It appeals to ages 1-7 and keeps them happy and quiet for a long time. Yeah!

5 out of 5 stars Sweet, innocent, simple, captivating.......2003-05-05

I started out by buying Richard Scarry's counting DVD. I loved it so much, I bought all the rest (minus the nursery rhymes DVD). My 2-year-old son really enjoys watching the movie, as does my 6-month-old daughter. I personally enjoy the DVD and its innocence. I like that it is simple yet captivating for them. It really holds their attention. I tend to be pretty particular when it comes to movies for my children, making sure they don't teach any bad habits and that it doesn't teach anything contrary to the Bible. I was very pleased to see there wasn't any reference to magic, fairies, etc, as many things tend to include such references these days.
