Editorial Review:
Description
As a 21-year old pitcher for the Oakland A's, Vida Blue burst on to the scene in 1971, winning the American League's MVP and Cy Young awards. Flash forward to 2001, as Phish keyboardist Page McConnell forms VIDA BLUE, a dynamic trio with bassist Oteil Burbridge and drummer Russell Batiste. At the same time, Page launches Team Vida Blue, specializing in stock-car racing and demolition derby. In 2003, Page is introduced to The Spam Allstars, Miami's hottest Afro-Cuban DJ sextet, and they joined forces in the studio and on the road.
This DVD - a sold out show at San Francisco's legendary Fillmore - captures all of these worlds at once: the combined ten-piece ensemble onstage plus an appearance from pitcher Vida Blue as he shows up to meet the band for the first time. Tying it all together is Team Vida Blue footage - the thrills and spills of smash-up derby action and the 2004 Enduro Race from Vermont's Thunder Road racetrack.

Made less than a year before his death in September 1970, Band of Gypsys was an album recorded live to fulfill a contractual obligation for a long-forgotten deal Jimi Hendrix signed when he still spelled his name "Jimmy." Hendrix had just disbanded the Jimi Hendrix Experience, and in order to dispense with the album as quickly as possible, he put together a new trio featuring Billy Cox (an old Army buddy) and drummer Buddy Miles, whose bombastic singing and thudding drum style would soon pollute FM airwaves across the nation. (Former Hendrix drummer Mitch Mitchell refers to him here as "William the Concreter," for his cement-mixer sense of rhythm.) They booked the Fillmore East with the idea of recording the shows for a live album, and this DVD features recently unearthed film footage of that historic performance, with Hendrix at the top of his powers (despite Miles's excesses). It also offers several other rare live performances from British clubs in the mid-1960s. The musical moments are mixed with new interview footage, including conversations with the self-effacing Cox and the self-aggrandizing Miles. If you've only heard the CDs (Band of Gypsys and Jimi Hendrix: Live at the Fillmore East), you've only gotten half of this particular Jimi Hendrix experience. --Marshall Fine

Hendrix in a different light.......2007-04-12
If you have never seen The Band of Gypsys live at the Fillmore there are two things you need to know. The actual concert footage is black and
white. The quality is not all that great and the sound could definitely be better. The second thing is that it is great. Hendrix was totally focused primarily because I think he knew they were recording an album to fulfill a contract commitment he got into with Capitol. Hendrix, Buddy Miles , and Billy Cox were tight but there was also a fluidity in there playing that allowed Hendrix to be spontaneous making his performances unique. It was a shame that this group did not go on to do other projects. Hendrix was in his element and it was evident. If "MACHINE GUN" were the only song on this DVD it would be worth it. He was just amazing to watch and even after all these years he is still one of the most profound and innovative guitar players of our time.
Another aspect of "the Band of Gypsys" is that Buddy Miles and Hendrix share the vocal responsibilities giving the band another dynamic unlike the "Experience". Miles drumming and Billy Cox's bass playing gave Jimi a solid foundation to work on. I liked the soul inspired songs they did together. The film part of the DVD is designed as a documentary with interviews by Buddy Miles, Billy Cox, Mitch Mitchell and everyone else that was in some way connected with this project. Actually I could have lived with out it but my guess is that there was so little actual concert footage [not to mention the quality] that I think they thought they had to put something else in there to compensate. I can't help thinking that there is more footage that just hasn't been released yet. What about the 2nd night they played? And during the documentary part there was some color film footage, where is it? Anyway, I am sure there is more yet to be released and when it does I will be there eagerly waiting.
5 stars for historical footage that could not be improved upon.......2007-04-09
If you're new to Hendrix though, be warned that genuine footage from the trenches of the Western Front from 1916, as well as plenty of footage from WW2, exists with far better picture quality than this Hendrix concert, although shot after man had landed on the moon. In fact, it's not much better than the moon-landing footage itself. How this can be will always remain a mystery to me, but clearly this fact is beyond the control of anybody trying to release what was filmed in a commercially viable form. I think they did a pretty good job, although I still feel this CD is more of historical interest and could be hard to digest for a non-Hendrix fan, or could put off the uninitiated. If you're looking for your first Hendrix DVD, rather get the film Jimi Hendrix, Woodstock or the Isle of Wight.

The Audio CD is more musical than the DVD,perhaps with strange apparatus.
DVD DOCUMENTARY SHEDS NEW LIGHT ON HENDRIX'S LEGENDARY "BAND OF GYPSYS!".......2006-10-02
Since today in 2 October 2006, Before I start my whole review, I would like to wish a Happy Birthday to my Dad who is also the biggest inspiration in my life. There is no man I respect more. Love You Dad, J.L.
I will be doing a review on the legendary historic DVD documentary simply entitled "Jimi Hendrix - Band Of Gypsys - Live At The Fillmore East" by the late great guitar legend Jimi Hendrix. As always, I will be editing this review from time to time so that you the consumer will get the best and most accurate review possible. Before I begin, I would highly suggest that you read my other reviews on Jimi's legendary historic landmark concerts at the "Monterey Pop Festival" on 18 June 1967, the "Woodstock Festival" on 18 August 1969, "Jimi Plays Berkeley" on 30 May 1970, "Rainbow Bridge Film And Concert" on 30 July 1970 and the "Isle Of Wight Festival" on 30 August 1970. They are long reviews and I do deeply apologize for that, but they do contain a lot of valuable information on Jimi that you might find very interesting. I do hope that you will read and enjoy all five reviews when time permits. It would also help me greatly in shortening this long review and not have to add all of that information from my previous five reviews in this review.
For me personally, this marks the sixth review that I have written on Jimi Hendrix's legendary concert series which focus's on some of his most memorable and unforgettable concert performances in Rock n' Roll history. This DVD documentary release of the "Band Of Gypsys Live At The Fillmore East," despite winning a Grammy, is exactly what it was originally intended to be, a documentary. This performance was NEVER filmed or meant to be a concert film, let alone a documentary. This DVD documentary release features the ONLY known Color and Black and White RARE footage of the group in concert performing such songs as the POWERFULLY EXPLOSIVE "Machine Gun," "Who Knows," "Izabella," "Fire" and "Foxey Lady" from the legendary guitarist's 31 December 1969 and 1 January 1970 Fillmore East performances. These live performances were originally released on vinyl and cassette as a partial compilation entitled "Hendrix - Band Of Gypsys" in 1970. Many rock critics as well as many Hendrix fans have wondered if the "Band Of Gypsys" complete Fillmore East performances would ever be released. There have been numerous bootlegs of these performances that have surfaced through the years but with bad sound quality. That suspense would finally end years later with the 1999 release of the 2-CD set entitled the "Band Of Gypsys Live At The Fillmore East" along with this DVD documentary, also released separately in 1999. The revolutionary impact Jimi Hendrix, Bassist Billy Cox and Drummer Buddy Miles had upon the boundaries and definitions of Rock, R&B and Funk can be traced into four concerts over the course of two evenings. The story of this ground-breaking music is finally told here in interviews with Jimi, and for the first time, ALL FOUR of his bandmates, Mitch Mitchell, Noel Redding, Billy Cox and Buddy Miles. Also contributing interviews are fellow Hendrix DIEHARDS such as Lenny Kravitz, Vernon Reid, Slash and Jimi's original Engineer Eddie Kramer.
First of all, I would like to deeply apologize to all the readers for my long reviews. The reason why I did this is because I feel that it's my responsibility as a reviewer to provide as much information on the main topic to the readers as possible. Please keep in mind that all of the information that is discussed in this review is based on facts disclosed from numerous Hendrix biographies. Enough of that, it is now time to take a journey back in time to the Fillmore East performances on 31 December 1969 and 1 January 1970.
To begin, the idea of the "Band Of Gypsys" was the mastermind of Jimi with the intensions of creating a new sound consisting of combining Rock n' Roll with Soul, R&B and Funk. With this new sound, Jimi had high hopes in drawing the black audiences to his concerts other than the white audiences which were all of his audiences. To achieve this experiment, Jimi would have to recruit Drummer Buddy Miles and his long-time friend and Army buddy, Bassist Billy Cox to accomplish this. In reality, Jimi TRULY believed that he had the PERFECT combination of musicians needed to accomplish this creativity of the new sound he was after mainly because ALL THREE shared the same ideas in combining Rock n' Roll with Soul, R&B and Funk. The four shows that the "Band Of Gypsys" performed at The Fillmore East is EVERYTHING that Jimi had hoped for, and is a TRUE TESTAMENT of the new sound that was to evolve into a reality. With the success of these four shows, it would seem that the "Band Of Gypsys" would stay together and continue further into this new sound with the advancement of bigger and better things. But it was not to be.
There was one BIG problem, Jimi's Manager Mike Jeffery. Jeffery opposed and hated Jimi's new ideas and the direction he was heading. Jeffery had different ideas as to the direction Jimi should be heading. Jeffery's main objective and goal was to REFORM the ORIGINAL EXPERIENCE consisting of Drummer Mitch Mitchell and Bassist Noel Redding. Hendrix opposed and hated that idea due to the fact that Hendrix did not want to work with Redding ever again. This incident would be one of MANY which would result in DISASTER and would eventually start developing into personal matters and bitter differences between Hendrix and Jeffery. With this problem escalating, Jeffery would DELIBERATELY and MALICIOUSLY CONSPIRE in DESTROYING Jimi's new ideas and PLOTTING in breaking up the "Band Of Gypsys." When Jeffery finally succeeded in breaking up the "Band Of Gypsys," Jimi would make an effort in compromising and complying with Jeffery's CONTROLLING DEMANDS by keeping Billy Cox and bringing Mitch Mitchell back to resume his duties as Jimi's Drummer. With this new band line up, Jeffery volunteered and took it upon himself, in FIRING Miles and then DELIBERATELY blamed it on Jimi by saying that "it was Jimi's idea." With Jimi having to put up with MANY of Jeffery's CROOKED SCHEMES, you may ask yourself, why didn't Jimi just fire Mike Jeffery? According to numerous Hendrix biographies, it wasn't that simple. In reality, the truth is that Jimi DID attempt in trying to sever all ties with Jeffery on many occasions, but was unsuccessful in doing so despite seeking legal assistance. What it all comes down to is that Jeffery had Hendrix in a HEADLOCK, Hendrix was bound and controlled under contract with Jeffery. Jimi's contract with Jeffery was IRONCLAD and UNBREAKABLE. This is one of many stressful incidents and factors that would eventually build up in Jimi resulting in him going into a deep depression. Jimi's drug abuse would worsen as a result of his depression. With these two factors, and Jimi's lack of sleep, they would hinder and alter Jimi's destiny in his masterful creativity and would affect his personality on stage in which he would no longer be the charismatic showman he was always known for in order to deliver the great performances.
In closing, Jeffery's responsibilities, as Manager, should have been the handling of Jimi's business and financial matters ONLY and should have left Jimi alone when it came to the band, creating music and performing on tour. I also believe that Jeffery was NOT looking after Jimi's best interests. Maybe Jeffery was trying to hold Jimi back because he was worried about how Jimi's white audience would react to Jimi's new band, new sounds and music as a result of being TOO FAR ADVANCED AHEAD OF HIS TIME. Then again, what Manager, such as Jeffery, has the right to tell THE GREATEST GUITARIST THAT EVER LIVED what kind of music HE thinks Jimi should be playing or who HE thinks Jimi should have in his band! It is too bad that Jeffery isn't alive to defend himself and answer these questions, he would later die in a plane crash in 1973. Despite all of the many tensions and disasters, it is STILL evident to this day, thirty-six years later, that Jimi Hendrix's accomplishments and his masterful skilled guitar playing is still as big of an influence in Rock n' Roll today then it was back then when Jimi was alive which shows that he has NEVER been forgotten as long as Rock n' Roll music as well as music, in general, STILL EXISTS. And since I feel confident of this, Jimi Hendrix's name will ALWAYS be mentioned above ALL the LEGENDARY GUITAR GREATS and his music will FOREVER influence many more generations to come to time indefinite. Thanks for reading my long and lengthy review and I hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it for all of you. I also hope that you will read all of my other reviews in the near future when time permits. JIMI LIVES! LONG LIVE ROCK N' ROLL! Rock out always. Take care, J.L.

Great DVD.......2007-06-08
If you like Dierks Bently, you'll love this DVD...the concert is fabulous. But I especially enjoyed the extras, getting to know the band, seeing him with his dog..etc.
MUSIC IS GOOD BUT HARD TO WATCH....................2007-06-03
THE MUSIC ON THIS DVD IS GOOD. THE VIDEO PORTION WILL GIVE YOU MOTION SICKNESS. THE VIDEO EDITING IS TERRIBLE.
IT'S SO CHOPPY THAT EACH SCENEIS ABOUT 1 TO 2 SECONDS.IT STILL AMAZES ME THAT IN THIS DAY AND AGE WE STILL HAVE A TON OF VIDEO EDITORS THAT THINK THAT 50 DIFFERENT CAMERA ANGLES EVEY MINUTE MAKES FOR A WATCHABLE SHOW. IF YOU LIKE THAT KIND OF CONCERT FILMING, THEN THIS SHOW IS FOR YOU.
Kiwi Review.......2007-05-13
There is little live country music avilable in New Zealand so we always look forward to receiving a new Live Country DVD. Dierks Bentley's DVD certainly measured up to our expectations. Lots of energy, Fine Musicianship, and a lively crowd. The songs written by Dierks Bentley are very good. I also really enjoyed the two Blugrass songs, and his tributes to two of my favorite singer Waylon & Johnny Cash. Would love to catch one of his live shows one day.
Country Concert Film at it's best.......2007-05-07
This Dierks Bentley DVD is the next best thing than seeing him in concert.I saw him on the tour last Summer and after seeing it as well as this I'd say it is the next best thing.Ive never seen another Country concert DVD put together exactly like this. The photography is great and the music is great! If you like the music of Dierks Bentley I think you'll like this. He does all his hits from his first two cds as well as other songs.
Looks can sell........2007-04-09
OK. I gotta admit that it was his looks that got me into his music.
I don't really care much for country music. I don't hate it it's just not my taste. I like one or two songs here and there. A friend of mine bought one of his CD for me (Modern day drifter). She knew that I thought he was the cutest. I started listening to it in my car. After couple times I started to get into it and I eventually ended up liking it alot. I went out and bought his first CD and ended falling in love with couple songs on that CD. When his third CD came out I bought it right away without hesitation. I was really surprised that he's just getting better on every CD that he puts out. It's even better than Modern day drifter CD.
When I found out that he will have his DVD out I put in preorder right away. Now I fell in love with him even more. In special behind the scenes on the DVD was very good. We get to see the real him. He seems so normal, not acting like he was a big superstar and that's made him more unique than everybody else. He looks like someone who live next door to you that just love to sing and make good music.
If you don't have his third CD. Get it. You'll love it.

It took a mere 30 years for Los Lobos to produce their first DVD, and the legendary East Los Angeles band has done it right with Live at the Fillmore. Of course, "legendary" is sometimes synonymous with "really good, but not so well known"; as guitarist Cesar Rosas wryly observes in the brief documentary accompanying this generous show (21 songs, drawn from their entire recording career, in a little less than two hours), many acts who once opened for Los Lobos, like Dwight Yoakam, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and Melissa Etheridge, went on to eclipse them in sales and popularity. But that takes nothing away from the considerable power of this performance, which finds the now-seven-piece band rocking with a vengeance. Longtime drummer Louie Perez plays guitar for the most part, joining Rosas and David Hidalgo in a three-guitar front line, and songs like "The Big Ranch," "I Walk Alone," and the crunching "Charmed" find Los Lobos coming on like a combination of Lynyrd Skynyrd, the Allman Brothers, and many of the artists who once played at San Francisco's Fillmore Auditorium, from Cream and Jimi Hendrix to the Grateful Dead and Santana. Of course, they can play pretty much any other style as well, including Cuban jazz ("Maricela"), Mexican-cum-zydeco ("How Much Can I Do?") and even mariachi-tinged reggae ("Maria Christina"); and that's to say nothing of unclassifiable fare like "Kiko and the Lavender Moon," still one of the best of Los Lobos's many superb original songs. Recorded in July 2004, Los Lobos: Live at the Fillmore is a fine representation of one of America's best bands. As Rosas observes backstage, "We love you, man. Don't ever shave." --Sam Graham
A CD of the concert is also available.

could do better.......2007-06-14
I read some reviews saying recording quality was average, but the whole performance was not exciting. I love Los Lobos and I think this must be one of their most uninteresting performances. To release it is sheer suicide. I was hoping for much more traditional influenced guitar playing and lively atmosphere. To skimp on the budget with sound quality really ruins a recording. Sorry guys :(
One legenday band on a S.F. night.......2007-02-27
Quite possibly one of America's best bands, Los Lobos demonstrate on this DVD why they have been making music that is consistently good over the past thirty years. They play a unique brand of music that crosses different genres but relies heavily on their blues and ethnicity. This disc shows why they have one of the most loyal fan bases reminiscent of the Grateful Dead. I follow their fan based boards and plenty of people made the trek to be part of this disc. As for the music itself presented here, well, it just blows you away. The catchy and infectious nature of their repertoire is only matched by their showmanship that is part laid back cool, part long extended jams with room for improvisation that results in signature Los Lobos. Through in some Spanglish songs and you've got East L.A.'s finest export. Highlights of the disc are the closing number, "Mas y Mas" that features Robert Randolph giving a sizzling pedal steel guitar solo puntuated by Steve Berlin's wild sax blowing and a give and take guitar session between Randolph and Rosas. The extended jam is similar to another legendary perfomance at the Fillmore by the Allman Brothers when thet recorded "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed." Other highlights include the haunting version of "Kiko and The Lavendar Moon" that features smoky voacals by Rosas and Hidalgo with breaks for funky cumbiaesque accordian and penetrating keyboards by Berlin, the upbeat Spanglish "Luz De Mi Vida," that was dedicated to "all the homies from East L.A. in the crowd" with it's three guitar assualt and Berlin on flute suite, the mellow as it gets at a wolf boyz concert "Rita," the heavily blues infected "Chains of Love" that would make any veteran bluesman smile, the guitar heavy "Viking" that features Vincent Hidalgo as a guest for a four guitar bombardment, the norteno "Mexico Americano" that sounds like Mexican-American zydeco, the back in the day classic "I Got Loaded," the you can't help but dance "Cumbia Raza" and "Shakin' Shakin' Shakes" which is led by David Hidalgo vocals. This is a very entertaining disc to hear and see the wolf boyz doing their magic on the crowd. Watching it is almost as good as being at one of their shows. Having attended many I would recommend this disc but be sure to catch them in the flesh.
I've seen the light.......2007-02-24
After 30 years in the business, you can't find a better time at a concert. It is so refreshing when a band looses the attitude and posing and concentrates on the music. These guys don't care what they look like or what brand of designer jeans they are wearing, they just rock the house and provide the best in music. This dvd is a testament to how well a band can rock your life. It's the next best thing to seeeing them live.
Nothing unique.......2007-02-22
I've seen Los Lobos several times live and do enjoy their music a lot. This concert is quite similar to any average night for them. For their only DVD they should have done something special in East LA. They're way too hip for San Frantimewarpfrisco and the decrepit vibes of the Fillmore and its sick old hippies.
5 Stars if not for the mixing!.......2006-09-27
This is difficult. On the one hand it's great to have a Los Lobos dvd (even though there's no Don't Worry Baby!!!). On the other hand who on earth did the mixing. Ok the vocals aren't always spot on but that doesn't really bother me as this is LIVE music and I can promise you when you're at a show you never notice. No, it's the guitar mix. When David Hidaldo does a solo it should leap out at you but here on this dvd it is so quiet you have to strain to hear it and even that doesn't do it. But like I said this is difficult because I hate to say anything negative where Los Lobos are concerned. They are without a doubt one of America's best bands and their performance here easily shows why. Sadly in the UK this dvd is no longer available (not sure about the States). Hopefully they'll either re-release it (if so with a remix please) or there will be a new one. Even with the mixing problem this is still a fantastic dvd. If you see a copy it is definitely worth buying.

Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Aretha Franklin, Otis Redding, the Grateful Dead... and Hanson? If the idea of the young pop-rock phenoms taking the stage at San Francisco's fabled Fillmore Auditorium--where Hendrix, Joplin, and so many other immortals once bathed in the spotlight--should strike you as sacrilegious, well, perhaps you're selling Hanson short. For while brothers Isaac (guitar), Taylor (keyboards) and Zachary (drums) Hanson are boys, they are certainly not a "boy band"; the teenyboppers who packed the Fillmore for this June 2000 show may swoon over their wholesome good looks, but Hanson eschew choreographed dance moves, fancy duds, designer haircuts, and the other boy-band trappings in favor of (gasp!) their music.
For one thing, the Hanson brothers are real musicians; augmented by a bass player and second guitarist and keyboardist, they offer ample evidence in the course of this 12-song concert that they can both play and sing (especially Taylor, who handles the lion's share of the lead vocals) like seasoned rock & roll pros. And while their self-penned songs may not exactly change the world, Hanson has a knack for filling them with irresistible hooks, from the opening "You Never Know" through "MMMBop," the hit that started it all, and other, more recent numbers like "If Only" and "Next Time Around" (entertaining videos for the latter two are principal among the DVD's bonus features). They also throw in a cover of Steppenwolf's "Magic Carpet Ride," a nod to the '60s that shows that Hanson was fully aware of the Fillmore legacy. It all makes for a righteously groovy experience, dudes. --Sam Graham
Customer Reviews:
Great music for all ages!.......2004-09-28
We saw this a couple of years ago on Direct TV. Not having been exposed to Hanson (and a geriatric at age 30, compared to their teenage fan base), I put it on since there was nothing else on tv and was literally blown away. I was hooked! You've already read the previous reviews talking about the raw talent of this band and it is so true. I had to show my husband, who is also a musician and even he loves it and he is pretty hard to please musically. What can I say - it's pure rock & roll in an age where musicians just don't have to have much real talent anymore - just a processed voice and some slick dance moves. How refreshing to find some "old school" rock and roll.
Two years later, we bought this dvd and still love it just as much as a few years ago. We thought our 18 month old twins would enjoy it and want them to be exposed to more than just Raffi! They LOVE it and now represent the youngest Hanson fanbase. We even had to buy all their albums since the twins are constantly requesting "Hasson" in the car. They dance to the music and they try to sing along (especially "MMMMMBop" and "Wish that I was There" - their two fav's).
I showed it to my Dad when he was here last and am proud to say that even he thought they were very good! What is so great about this dvd is that they sound so fabulous live. We actually prefer a lot of the live versions over the studio ones since their raw edge and pure talent shines so brightly.
Buy this and you will watch it over and over again. All the brothers sing and mix it up and there is always something that you missed that you catch next time around! Enjoy! And rock on, Hanson!
Finally a new performance...!.......2004-04-25
It's really good that Hanson came out with a new video! It's really good, with a full of energy performance. I just wish they had some kind of interview etc. on the DVD, all it is is them playing a concert and it gives you 2 of their music videos, but something a little extra would have been nice, but great none the less!
Hanson rocking the Fillmore.......2004-02-25
I was actually in attendance at this concert, in addition to owning the DVD. I've seen hundreds of bands live, and Hanson has been the most intense. The passion they exert while playing their music is breathtaking, even though at the show itself it was kind of hard for me to get a great view of them playing since I was being squished in between screaming girls.
Hanson's three part harmony over their catchy and mostly upbeat pop-rock music (which they wrote themselves) is so much more real than all the other pop that was coming out at around this time.
The only problem I have with this DVD is how they keep cutting to the really young girls singing along to the songs and making fools of themselves... I remember the girls around me looking much older than those girls, and I really could have done without those shots included constantly. Hanson themselves should have been the sole focus.
Hanson are born musicians, great songwriters, and I wish people would take them seriously instead of associating them with MMMBop because they have matured and really have great talent to offer the world.
Brillant, absolutely Brillant!.......2003-09-28
This is perhaps the best you can get to besides actually being at a Hanson concert, I've been to one and it's very realistic and up close like you've just sat down to see them. It is very good, extremely energetic and absolute amazing! Isaac, Taylor and Zac have done good in the past, but this is absolutely great. They really out did themselfs this time. Doing oldies such as the "Magic Carpet Ride" just adds to the excitment, and Taylor does a splended job on the Piano, and Isaac on the guitar and Zac on the drums. It's especially good on the half acoustic sets like "Lovesong and Hand in Hand", they do a excellent job, and I recommend anyone who wants this DVD or VHS to get it, because it is well worth the money and wait to get it! Hanson at the Filmore is perhaps the best concert they've done, that they've actually taped. Great tape, and perfect concert, very fun to watch and makes you want to get up and dance and clap with them. So if your a true Hanson Fan or Collector, this would be a excellent addition to your Hanson collection....

Indigo Girls Forever.......2005-08-08
I've been listening to and watching IG, both in person and video since 1990 and they are definitely up to their best in performance and interviews in this wonderful DVD. I couldn't recommend this more highly.
Their musical and political revelance continues to be an important to American culture.
I'd rather hear them than see them .......2005-03-24
I'm a mild Indigo Girls fan. I like their complex vocal harmonies and guitar playing and many of their songs. This video didn't enhance my image of them. First of all, I didn't think the concert included many of their best songs and secondly their stage presence wasn't all that impressive. There's such a thing after all of being too unglamorous. They could have combed their hair for the occasion. I would also have enjoyed more between songs chatter to get a better idea of their personalities on stage. So, in conclusion, this is an OK video, but I'd rather listen to the Indigo Girls than see them.
Still rocking and relevant some 20 years on ..........2004-12-12
This DVD is as close to the live Indigo experience as I've yet to see. All the raw talent, joy, conviction and obvious synchronicity between audience and the gals are here ... if you are an Indigo Girls fan and you don't already have this, scrape up 'yer nickels 'cos you can repeat that concert experience (or, in my case, three concerts) as many times as you want at home for a third less than the cost of the average ticket. Woo-hooo!
The ladies come out rockin' with a couple of driving numbers, then lighten it up and make you remember what it was like to be swaying gleefully in the crowd, washed over by those amazing harmonies and the goose-bump experience of real, live, **great** music. All the better if you've got surround sound or "simulated surround sound" (is that anything like "simulated wood grain?") on your telly, to go with the visuals.
Of course, they dip back into their considerable catalog of songs for some of the darker numbers (what would the Indigo Girls be without their darker numbers? They would never in a million years be mistaken for, say, Puffi Ami Yumi. Or the Go-Go's). Their politics are still firmly in place, and musically they've only grown stronger. Watching this DVD at times is a bit like stepping into the voting booth (the one that doesn't have any Republicans on the ballot, LOL).
My only quibble with this package is how they break up the concert numbers with side interviews bits of bio footage on their band. (Though I have to say I was glad they did introduce their drummer, who I had pegged from the first frame he appeared in as the former skins player for Haircut 100, of all bands!!! Yep, it was Blair!)
Alright ... well, a final sigh ... thank God for those amazing voices. Those MELODIES. They'll restore you when you've tired of all the trendy stuff that glitters so prettily but somehow doesn't stick to the ribs like the Indigos.
Rock ON!
acoustic wonderment.......2004-11-02
majestic, awe-inspiring, fun, thoughtful, insightful and moving songs captured in a groovy place. Though they have improved considerably as performers over the last 5-6 years, this is a perfectly enjoyable live disc for enthusiasts of "acoustic rock."
Live At The Fillmore: A Must Have For Any IG Fan.......2004-01-04
Live At The Fillmore is an excellent example of just how talented Amy and Emily are as musicians! There are plenty of close-ups showing Amy and Emily's fingers flying right through the songs. The show is interspersed with live interviews in which Amy and Emily get to share their thoughts on many topicsfrom how long they've known each otherto what inspires them to keep active in grassroots organizing.Live At The Fillmore allows you to witness Emily practicing Airplane withtheir band. My favorite songs on here (in no particular order): Scooter Boys, Shed Your Skin, Shame On You, Cold Beer and Remote Control, FAYE TUCKER, Galileo (Although Emily does sound kind of tired at first.) PHILOSOPHY OF LOSS is such a gem...Emily just sounds and looks SO SINCERE you know she's singing from her heart. The way this DVD was filmed leaves something to be desired....like theykeep taking the camera OFF Amy and Emily to get the chandelier in. I've taken two stars off for that.Otherwise this show is an absolute must have for ANY DIE-HARD IG fan...or even if you just want to get to know the music of these two very wonderful women! Happy viewing!

Description
The String Cheese Incident has garnered a reputation as one of today's best live acts. Live at the Fillmore captures one of the band's epic home-state performances from start to finish. Recorded March 23, 2002 at the Fillmore Auditorium in Denver, Colorado, the 2-disc DVD set features over 3 hours of MX Multiangle footage of the quintet performing such fan favorites as "Rivertrance," "Rollover," and "Land's End." The 16-song set list is offered up in bold Dolby 5.1 Surround and DTS 5.1 Surround sound (mixed at Skywalker Sound) and features special guest appearances by Grateful Dead drummer Bill Kruetzmann & bluegrass legend Ricky Skaggs. Plus, avid fans will appreciate the "Red Lady Ball" bonus footage.
Live at the Fillmore includes a full extra hour of the MX Multiangle feature which enables viewers to choose their "view," focusing on various band member solos and other key performances throughout the concert. The unique feature is an improvement over other multiangle DVD's because it provides a picture-in-picture preview of the available choices and allows viewers to easily select their choice using the familiar arrow keys and enter button. MX Multiangle highlights are available for each member of the band and give fans a personal experience each time they watch the DVD.

A musical zenith!!!.......2005-12-28
I don't review often, but I was compelled to after experiencing this dvd. Watching this with my new surround sound was absolutely amazing. I dare anyone to call themselves a music fan and not be moved by the iBam!>Cedar Laurels>Lost intro. The jamming is insane, especially on Cedar Laurels and Kyle is absolutely on fire. The night heats up even more as Ricky Skaggs and then Kentucky Thunder come out for an unplugged bluegrass session. The high energy carries on throughout the rest of the first set and the band is flying high as they jam into Birdland>Flying West Jam>Birdland to end the set.
Set two is no sloucher either. The band retains it high energy from the first set, playing their customarily long 15 minute Rivertrance. Later on in the set Michael is euphoric as he introduces a legend, Grateful Dead drummer Bill Kreutzman to join the band. From their on they play some of my favorite songs, Land's End, Restless Wind, and end with a great Rollover.
I know I used a lot of superlatives to describe this show, but they are all fitting. I'm not one of those fans that blindly gives a 5 star to every cd/dvd of my favorite bands. This performance is full of energy, especially from Kyle, and it really sent chills through me and moved me. I have quite a few SCI shows in my library (over 50) and this one really stands out in my mind as one of their best that I have experienced.
Best... DVD... EVER!.......2004-07-07
This is a definate must-have for any cheese fan, or for any jam fan for that matter. The only thing that could have improved this DVD would have been a bit less bluegrass (roughly half of the first set) or an appearance by K-Dub. Otherwise, this is a stellar collection of songs that had me up and dancin' in an empty room. Highlights: Birdland jam, Rivertrance, Land's End (as heard on "A String Cheese Incident") and its accompianing jams, and of course, Rollover. "Drums" will have any percussionist in awe, and Kang's picking on Rollover is second to none. Again, BUY THIS DVD!
Great DVD.......2004-01-02
The previous reviewer went into good detail about this DVD, so I won't say too much here, but know that this is a great set of discs. The first set is good particularly if you like bluegrass (which I don't much), but that's just a preference issue. The set really picks up after the Skaggs session, ending powerfully. The second set really takes off however, from Rivertrance all the way through the encore. It was fun to see Billy Kreutzman jam w/ Travis and the boys during Land's End. The video quality of these discs is superior, particularly in comparison to Phish's Vegas disc. The sound is outstanding and the camera work is great. This is really a well put-together DVD. If you like good jamming, Cheese or otherwise, or are just itchin' for an Incident, get it...you'll love it.
Itchin' For An Incident?.......2003-11-14
If you have been waiting for a excellent String Cheese DVD then this is it. A introduction to the band like Evolution it is not. A ski video reminiscing about home like Waiting For The Snow To Fall it is not. What it is, is a chunk of live Cheese (some damn good cheese) you can shelf and pick up whenever you are itchin' for an incident.
Featuring SCI live in Denver in 2002, Live At The Fillmore showcases the band in top form. From the minute Billy takes of his shoes to the last notes of Rollover, this DVD delivers. The set-list while (in my opinion) not the best I've heard, still includes solid bluegrass mixed in with the bands rockin'/jammy sound. Special features are limited but who needs them when you get special guests Bill Kruetzman (The Dead) and bluegrass legend Ricky Skaggs and members of Kentucky Thunder joining the band on stage?
All in all, cheese fans can't go wrong purchasing this one. It blows all the other Cheese DVD's out of the water, pirate style! If you are new to String Cheese, I suggest CD's first(Carnival '99 and some On The Road albums - 7/5/02 and 3/22/03 are stellar) and if you like what you hear, check this out when you get the chance.

If you weren't a fan you will be..........2007-06-10
Finally a BHT DVD and a fine one at that. Really fine audio and video reproduction. This is a good representation of what great bass should be played and sound like. Tood Park Mohr is a wonderful lyricist and it's obvious he loves what he's doing. I'd put this right behind Boz Scagg's Greatest Hits Live DVD for sound & video quality.
Somebody put some thought into showcasing each band member as the concert progresses. Nice job. "Broken Hearted Saviour" and "Circle" are awesome. Crank 'em up!!
It's The Mucic.......2006-03-10
The thing I love about this DVD is that it is all about the music. If you see BHTM in concert, they are all business. This DVD does a great job of capturing the concert experience. Not a bunch of theatrics, just 4 guys playing great music. Hazel adds her substantial vocal talents to the mix, and Todd flat out brings it.
Having just seen them in concert a month ago, I consider BHTM as a great band that just keeps getting better! I agree with the earlier review, the selection of songs is simply outstanding.
Magical.......2004-12-26
This Dvd rocks! I've seen Big Head Todd and the Monsters numerous times around Colorado, New years eve at the Paramount, Red Rocks, etc... and this DvD is quintessential BHTM. The boys flat deliver, their talent shines through big time and Hazel rocks the house.
BHTM fans, this is a must have for your DvD libraries.
Enjoy!
Todd Park Mohr - SUperstar.......2004-09-08
I just purchased this DVD yesterday, and after three viewings I am convinced that this is by far my favorite concert DVD of 2004. BHTM are an incredibly tight band, but it is the brilliant performance of Todd Park Mohr that truly shines. Outstanding vocals, sizzling guitar, this DVD documents Todd's maturity and emergence as a true superstar.
The set list is outstanding and showcases a nice mix of BHTM's new material from "Crimes of Passion" and other older albums. Included are stunning performances of Imaginary Ships, Conquistador, Broken Hearted Savior, Crazy Mary and Resignation Superman (plus several others). They finish off the set with a song previously recorded by Eric Clapton, "Forever Man" which is outstanding.
The quality of the DVD video is excellent, very clear and presented in a 16:9 aspect ratio. The video editing is overall very good and maintains the focus appropriately on Todd Park Mohr. The Dolby 5.1 soundtrack is excellent and mixed very well.
The bottom line is that this is a fantastic DVD.

Product Description
In December of 1995, Hot Tuna travelled to San Francisco to play a concert at the legendary Fillmore auditorium. Fortunately, the moment was captured on film. This DVD conveys all the excitement and power of that performance and of this three decade wonder band which has one of the most faithful audiences in popular music. Songs include "Ode For Billy Dean," "Do Not Go Gentle," "Candyman," "Good Shepherd," "Ice Age," and many more.

What happened to the BASS ? Jack's Bass should be jumpin, I barely notice it, even turning the bass boost on stereo. I have the old VHS version, was hoping if they put out a DVD they'd remix. nope.( and finish the last song instead of fadeout. 'course I don't know what's left of the original tapes, if anything.)

This muscular set of soul-edged electric blues offers encouraging evidence of the ongoing survival instincts for modern bluesmen: decades after the first assurances that the blues were dead, modern interpreters continue to pack concert halls and, now, buttress their audio recordings with computer-friendly extras (as on the companion CD culled from the same performances) and DVDs mixed with true 5.1 sound.
If Castro's record company is augmenting the presentation to keep pace with the times, this San Francisco-based guitarist and singer otherwise delivers a no-frills package that works confidently within the more upbeat end of the blues spectrum. Shorn of explicit scholarship or careful allusions to regional parent styles, this is proudly blue-collar blues rock designed purely for partying. With his short, slicked-back hair and a buffed-up physique clad in black slacks and polo shirt, Castro doesn't resemble anybody you'd expect to find in the smoky juke joints or shotgun shacks of blues lore; his athletic performing style and grinning ebullience likewise seem incongruous if considered in the context of traditional blues' more harrowing, confessional standards. There isn't a hellhound in sight, but then Castro's enthusiastic Fillmore audience clearly couldn't care less.
In fact, Castro and his quartet (covering bass, drums, and tenor sax) flex a sturdy, if generic, blues style that reaches for the same '60s soul economy audible in the early sound of Robert Cray, whose own career began with the sort of pumped-up bar band aesthetic that Castro plies here. Like Cray, Castro's songbook is largely preoccupied with sex and heartbreak, albeit without the lyric invention that Cray and original collaborator Dennis Walker achieved. From a technical standpoint, the show is well shot and cleanly recorded, its surround mix simply adding ambience to the traditional stage mix presented by front and center channels. Those familiar with Castro and the CD version of the same show will note that Blind Pig uses a slightly different song list here; it's worth pondering whether the DVD, which clocks in at just 60 minutes, would have been improved by including the other songs available on CD but not here. --Sam Sutherland

Half Live at the Filmore........2007-06-27
I'm a big Tommy Castro fan, especially the earlier stuff and that's what you get here. Tommy and the band sound great, the sound mix is good but what disappoints is that you only get half or part of the show, just 10 songs with total running time less than a hour long. The extra's include some bio stills and a short six minute interview with Tommy and not much else. The set list could have been much stronger, but again keep in mind this is not the entire concert. I enjoy this disc more each time I play it and I suggest if you're a fan to check it out anyway and enjoy the show.

I'm not sure ... I've listened to Tommy Castro for a long time, so I figured I'd get this video. Just seems to be lacking something, but is still most enjoyable.
EXCELLENT SOUND MIX, BEST NEW ACT ON THE BLUES SCENE.......2002-07-23
This is my favorite band. I love my Stevie Ray Vaughn stuff, but it's tough to not have anything new come out of your favorite artist, like ever again. With the Tommy Castro band I'm able to see how they change as time goes on. A great live band, this DVD catches some of their great hits with incredible sound. Make sure you have the 5.1 audio mix on, it literally sounds like you're there. My favorite performance on this disc is 'Nobody Loves Me Like My Baby', which didn't make it onto the CD version. Likewise I was disappointed though to find that they didn't include 'sex machine' by James Brown on the DVD, which was on the CD release of this live performance.
Great performance.......2001-07-19
Tommy Castro revisit for us the soul music and the rock music in a great performing show, with a very efficacious rhythmics section. A great moment of happiness.
Tommy Castro - Live!.......2001-02-05
This DVD is a must if you are in to Tommy Castro and his band. The song selection could of been better but overall this DVD is pretty cool. Note, Some of the songs on the CD are not on this DVD.

Product Description
Comedian Dave Chapelle does what he does best in this outrageous and hilarious standup performance, which allows him to push the envelope far beyond what he does on his TV show. Taped in San Francisco at the famed Fillmore, Chappelle lets loose on such topics as black celebrities, what it's like to have raunchy fans of his TV show approach him while he's trying to enjoy Disneyland with his kids, Michael Jackson, Kobe Bryant ...and crackheads, of course.
It's comedy Chappelle-style and, for what it's worth, no one is safe from his barbs. But you already knew that!
