How refreshing it is to discover a video collection that relies on nothing except the music--no interviews, no biographical material, no promos, just five tasty tunes presented in a clean, concise 21 minutes. So it is with Savage Garden: The Video Collection, which offers the best of the Australia-based group's mid- to late-'90s output. Released in 1998, the package includes the hits "I Want You," "To the Moon and Back," and "Truly Madly Deeply" (with lovely, sepia-toned Parisian locations), as well as "Break Me Shake Me" and "Tears of Pearls"; none of them were commercially available prior to the release of this set. Heartthrob singer Darren Hayes takes center stage most of the time, joined by longtime musical partner Daniel Jones and their other, unidentified bandmates. Given the absence of extra frills, it's up to the music to carry the proceedings--and Savage Garden's does. --Sam Graham

As with Star Wars, the George Lucas-produced Indiana Jones trilogy was not just a plaything for kids but an act of nostalgic affection toward a lost phenomenon: the cliffhanging movie serials of the past. Episodic in structure and with fate hanging in the balance about every 10 minutes, the Jones features tapped into Lucas's extremely profitable Star Wars formula of modernizing the look and feel of an old, but popular, story model. Steven Spielberg directed all three films, which are set in the late 1930s and early '40s: the comic book-like Raiders of the Lost Ark, the spooky, Gunga Din-inspired Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, and the cautious but entertaining Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. Fans and critics disagree over the order of preference, some even finding the middle movie nearly repugnant in its violence. (Pro-Temple of Doom people, on the other hand, believe that film to be the most disarmingly creative and emotionally effective of the trio.) One thing's for sure: Harrison Ford's swaggering, two-fisted, self-effacing performance worked like a charm, and the art of cracking bullwhips was probably never quite the iconic activity it soon became after Raiders. Supporting players and costars were very much a part of the series, too--Karen Allen, Sean Connery (as Indie's dad), Kate Capshaw, Ke Huy Quan, Amrish Puri, Denholm Elliot, River Phoenix, and John Rhys-Davies among them. Years have passed since the last film (another is supposedly in the works), but emerging film buffs can have the same fun their predecessors did picking out numerous references to Hollywood classics and B-movies of the past. --Tom Keogh

Scenes were deleted :(.......2007-07-02
I watched the entire DVD version and unfortunately, the entire movies are not there. A couple scenes were deleted from all 3 movies.
Probably my favorite scene that was deleted was in Temple of Doom, during the dinner scene. The part where the monkey's scalp is pulled off and it shows the monkey's brain, was deleted from the DVD version.
This was an absolute waste of money. I want the ENTIRE movie!!!
Truly Deserving of its AFI Top Movie List Ranking.......2007-06-30
I love the Indiana Jones series. They were fantastic when they first came out, when I was a young teen, enjoying the fast paced action and sharp witty comments. They're equally great now that I'm older and can see the much deeper meaning in many of the interactions. The movie series does a fantastic job of both providing light, entertaining for the young ones as well as some quality character interactions for those who seek them.
Harrison Ford shines in a role which, in the hands of another actor, might have turned into a cliche. Well, it IS a cliche in the sense that the adventure guy acts as if he's in a video game - running, jumping and shooting his way out of trouble. But he's so much more. He has his doubts, his weaknesses. He knows what he's doing is very risky, and he judges his chances with an experienced eye before leaping into the fray.
I've seen these movies so many times that I'm very glad they're on DVD, where a tape is not wearing holes in it. There's always something new to spot in a situation. The little details tucked into the corners are just astounding.
Highly, highly recommended. This is a set that every home should own. You can pop it into the player at any time, with pretty much any crowd, and enjoy.
Indiana Jones DVDs.......2007-06-27
This series (the first 3 Indiana Jones movies) is a classic, and a great deal of fun.
The ride of your life.......2007-06-21
Steven Spielberg and George Lucas wanted to make a movie that was like the old action adventure movies and they succeeded. The movies grab you by the throat from the beginning and add suspense, quirky joke lines and fast-paced action.
Settle back with your favourite drink, grab a container of popcorn, dim the lights and get ready for the best entertainment night you have had for a long time.
First class, all the way........2007-06-14
I recently picked up this boxed set, and couldn't be happier. I loved these movies as a kid, and still enjoy them immensely as an adult. The digital remastering is gorgeous -- the colors are vivid and the picture crisp. The 4th disc of bonus material is also well done. I won't even comment on the films themselves -- quality material that stands the test of time. Classic, action-packed Spielberg. They don't make 'em like this anymore.

Holy Cow, Buy This if You Didn't Purchase the Seasons As They Came Out.......2007-07-05
If it's way less than $300 for the entire series, you need to buy it.
From 2002 to 2006, I bought each season of Friends as they were released. I just want to encourage anyone who is "iffy" or uncertain about buying this set of all ten seasons. Do it!
Grab it while you can. This is one of those sitcoms that has such re-watchability, like Seinfeld and Frasier and The Golden Girls. I still laugh out loud at these characters and the writing.
Couldn't be more excited.......2007-06-27
I absolutely loved it. As soon as I recieved I watched the entire first season. The only problem that I have is that in some parts it freezes like from a scratch but it isn't too bad. Love shopping at amazon
Perfect purchase.......2007-06-27
I bought the box set as a gift for my boyfriend, and he was really pleased with it. The box is strong enough to have the DVDs, the booklet is very useful, and also when you play a DVD in you computer a software from WB can be installed automatically so you can watch the episodes using that program. Regarding the quality of the DVDs, I have no complaints, the image is good, the sound too, plus you have different language subtitles to practice with. And one more thing, I was afraid that the box would be delived to me practically in pieces because of the shipment period (two weeks and a bit more)and because of some review I read, but it was in perfect conditions. You should definitely buy this Product!
This is automatic brownie points with your lady!!.......2007-06-27
I can't say I was a fan of the show in the beginning of its run. I tend to watch more cartoons than sitcoms. When I first met my girlfriend, she got me into watching this show. At first I only watched it because that meant I got to sit and hold her for 30 minutes; but the show kinda grew on me.
I like friends, and even though they didn't really have any other RACES on the show as regulars, you could find a piece of yourself in at least one of the six characters.
I am definately Chandler.
Oh My God! .......2007-06-25
Excellent option if you want to have all ten seasons at the same time, and at a very cheap price. It was delivered in ten days here to Mexico. And yes, it does have spanish subtitles.

ESTHER WILLIAMS! Just in time for the Summer...looks like another winner from Warner!.......2007-07-02
I am going to be broke this Summer, and it's going to be Warner Home Video's fault. Every week they seem to be releasing something I've been waiting for to arrive on DVD.
Esther Williams was one of the most successful screen performers for several years in the '40s and early '50s, and it's no wonder. She was gorgeous, had a wry screen personality, a nice singing voice, and..oh yeah, she swam a bit.
This collection looks outstanding, and it's nice to see that Warner has included their usual cache of vintage extras, including those neat radio promos they have been using lately.
Aside from Esther's spectacular aquatics in BATHING BEAUTY and NEPTUNE'S DAUGHTER, there are many other wonderful aspects to these films. Red Skelton is hysterically funny in BB and ND, Cugat is always entertaining as well, and who can resist Tom & Jerry in DANGEROUS WHEN WET. Beautifully done. There are also some great songs here, particularly the Frank Loesser score for NEPTUNE'S, and the Arthur Schwartz/Johnny Mercer tunes in DANGEROUS WHEN WET are all terrific....and let's not forget Charlotte Greenwood's star turn in the AIN'T NATURE GRAND number. Most importantly, there's Miss Williams, who was quite a knockout in every way.
I'm particularly happy to see that the packaging says Volume One. While every film here is a winner (my personal favorites are NEPTUNE'S DAUGHTER and DANGEROUS WHEN WET), I would assume Warner could give us another 2 sets of Esther's best, but for the moment I remain most grateful for this first volume. Viva Esther!
Music, water, & comedy combine in a great film collection.......2007-06-30
These films are something like underwater Busby Berkeley films, so if you like the MGM musicals of the 40's and 50's, and/or you like Busby Berkeley's work you'll likely appreciate this collection. I rate this set as five stars for those people who appreciate the light-hearted romantic comedy and music of these types of films. If you are looking for gut-wrenching drama or film noir and are not open to these kinds of films, look elsewhere. Also, if you like the comedy of Red Skelton or Lucille Ball, they both show up in some great comic performances in a couple of these films.
Bathing Beauty (1944)
Costars Red Skelton in a comedy about a songwriter who enrolls in a women's college to win back his estranged swimming-teacher wife. Highlights include music from both Harry James and his Music Makers and Xavier Cugat and his Orchestra, Skelton in a pink tutu doing unforgivable things to Tchaikovsky and a spectacular, trendsetting `chlorine-and-chorine' finale.
Special Features:
Robert Osborne hosts "TCM's Private Screenings with Esther Williams"
Oscar-nominated Short "Main Street Today"
Academy Award-winning cartoon "Mouse Trouble"
Theatrical trailer
Subtitles: English (feature film only)
Easy To Wed (1946)
This is a remake of the 1930's screwball comedy Libeled Lady, although outside of the skeleton of the plot the comparisons are few. Particularly funny is Van Johnson afloat with a baleful spaniel who knows a lot more about duck hunting than he does, and a drunken scene featuring the antics of Lucille Ball. Actually, Lucy steals the show in more than a few scenes here. When the local paper runs an untrue story claiming an heiress (Esther Williams) is a husband stealer, she prepares to sue for libel. So an employee of the newspaper (Keenan Wynn) comes up with a plan to improve the paper's chances in court: He'll arrange a sham wedding between his fiancée (Lucille Ball) and another newsroom employee (Van Johnson), send said employee to woo the heiress, and thus have a real husband-stealing story.
Special Features:
Oscar-nominated Pete Smith Specialty comedy short "Sure Cures"
Classic cartoon "The Unwelcome Guest"
Theatrical trailers of "Easy to Wed" and "Libeled Lady"
Subtitles: English (feature film only)
On an Island with You (1948)
This musical comedy feature moonlight swims, swaying palms, Technicolor sunsets and...cannibals. Esther Williams, Peter Lawford, Ricardo Montalban and Cyd Charisse get the swimming, swaying and sunsets and Jimmy Durante, of course, gets the cannibals. Williams is a swimming movie star pursued by two handsome suitors on the set of her latest film. Features Xavier Cugat and his orchestra playing some lovely songs.
Special Features:
Vintage Romance of Celluloid series short "Personalities"
Classic cartoon "The Bear and the Hare"
Theatrical trailer
Subtitles: English (feature film only)
Neptune's Daughter (1949)
Betty Barrett (Betty Garrett) mistakes Jack Spratt (Red Skelton) for the South American polo team captain José O'Rourke (Ricardo Montalban), and relentlessly pursues him. Meanwhile, the real O'Rourke pursues Betty's sister Eve (Esther Williams). The resulting mistaken identities and romantic complications turn into a great mix of slapstick and flirtatious fun. Garrett and Skelton's comedy is particularly appealing. The film features songs by Frank Loesser including Baby, It's Cold Outside, winner of the 1949 Best Song Oscar. The film has a happy ending and culminates in a stupendous water ballet.
Special Features:
Outtake musical number "I Want My Money Back"
Esther Williams cameo sequence from 1951's "Callaway Went Thataway"
Oscar-Nominated Pete Smith Specialty comedy "short Water Trix"
Oscar-nominated cartoon "Hatch Up Your Troubles"
Theatrical trailers of this movie and "Take Me Out to the Ball Game"
Subtitles: English (feature film only)
Dangerous When Wet (1953)
This film has Williams playing Katy, a farm girl from a health-obsessed family who finds romance with Williams' future real-life husband Fernando Lamas while training to swim across the English Channel. In the film's key sequence, Williams swims along with cartoon stars Tom and Jerry.
Special Features:
Outtake musical number "C'est La Guerre"
Pete Smith Specialty comedy short "This Is a Living?"
Classic cartoon "Name to Come"
Esther Williams musicals trailer gallery
Subtitles: English (feature film only)
The descriptions of the special features are from a press release from Warner Home Video.
Instant Entertainment...Just add water.......2007-06-07
I am so glad The Esther Williams collection is finally being released. She was the most beautiful star at MGM, if not in all of Hollywood. What a great selection of films too. "Easy To Wed" features a comical, but gorgeous Lucille Ball. "On An Island With You" is a personal favorite and Esther is at her most beautiful here. I am hopeful TCM will release a second volume to this collection and include Esther's 1956 drama "The Unguarded Moment". In it, she plays a high school music teacher who is being stalked by a young John Saxon. "Thrill Of A Romance", "This Time For Keeps" "Easy To Love" and "Jupier's Darling" would complete the set nicely. Miss Williams proves she is a star both in and out of water!
Finally, Esther makes the dive into DVD .......2007-04-28
For years I've been waiting for this Esther Williams DVD collection and hallelujah they have finally arrived. These five films from 1944 to 1953 are the best, but hopefully the remainer of her aquatic musicals will soon follow. BATHING BEAUTY is among the top of my favorites list thanks to Red Skelton, Xavier Cugat, Ethel Smith's Tico-Tico and Esther's spectacular flaming water fountains swim finale. I gave a five star rating just becasue it contains five great musicals. Hopefully the picture and sound quality will give justice for this rating.

These four classic, 1938 black-and-white Nancy Drew hour-long films directed by William Clemens (not the 2007 movie starring Emma Roberts) feature Bonita Granville as Nancy Drew, John Litel as Carson Drew, and Frankie Thomas as Ted Nickerson. Based on the character from the book series first published in 1930, the headstrong teenager Nancy Drew has a knack for winding up right in the middle of a mystery, and neither her father nor friend Ted can talk Nancy into doing what they consider the sensible thing: letting the police handle the detective work. With a curious mix of early feminism and cultural chauvinism, a dichotomy representative of late-1930s society, Nancy investigates each mystery with fervor, usually dragging her friend Ted into the thick of the investigation and demonstrating a complete disregard for her personal safety or the safety of her friends and family in her determination to track down the perpetrator. Sharp-witted and quick to pick up on the smallest, seemingly insignificant details, Nancy often succeeds where the local Police Captain Tweedy (Frank Orth) fails. Nancy Drew, Detective presents the story of an elderly benefactress unscrupulously detained at a sanatorium, while Reporter and Trouble Shooter are murder mysteries, and Hidden Staircase deals with a combined murder and attempt to dupe two elderly women. While somewhat ponderously paced by modern standards, these original Nancy Drew adventures are quality suspense mysteries that deserve their classic designation. (Ages 10 and older) --Tami Horiuchi
Customer Reviews:
"I guess it's just my woman's intuition.".......2007-07-08
Nancy Drew was a highly popular book series that became a group of b-level movies starring Bonita Granville in the title role. These four films are excellent little mysteries, short and sweet with plenty of gusto. They are a bit childish because of the age of the characters; teenagers today would never act the way these teens do. However, if one can ignore that, the movies are highly enjoyable and great for all ages.
First, we have Nancy Drew: Detective, a film about an elderly benefactor who plans to donate much of her fortune to the girls' school that Nancy attends. Before she can donate the money, though, she disappears. Nancy is positive she has been kidnapped, despite the little evidence to support the claim. Along with the help of Ted Nickerson (Frankie Thomas) and her lawyer father (John Litel), she finds that there is a plot afoot, and it might be more dangerous than she originally suspected.
In Nancy Drew: Reporter, Nancy switches her throw-away assignment for the local newspaper in favor of a murder trial. She knows that the woman is innocent, even though the evidence is stacked against her. If only Nancy could get her father to represent the case! But as always, Nancy takes things into her own hands, and ropes Ted into the deal.
Nancy Drew can't stand the sight of her father falling for a woman in Nancy Drew: Troubleshooter. They venture to the country so her father can work on a case against his friend, Nancy's "Uncle Matt," who has been accused of murder. They're safe, until they find the body of the missing man, and unfortunately the evidence is against good-old Matt. Nancy is suspicious as always, and looks into things a little deeper. With the help of a stereotypical servant named Apollo, she sees that the case is much more complicated than her father realizes.
The film with the most exciting title is Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase. Two elderly ladies are started when a murder occurs in their home despite no access for an intruder to commit the crime. They fear paranormal activity because they have been hearing strange noises coming from the basement. They cannot leave unless they want to lose possession of their home because of some technicalities in a will that gave them the house. It is up to Nancy Drew and Ted the ice man to figure out what exactly is causing all of the problems in the old Civil War era home.
wonderful.......2007-07-07
My nine year old has become a huge Nancy Drew fan. This collection is fantastic. The new,2007, movie had elements that I found too mature for a nine year old. These films are energetic, fun and just the right length. This series is from a time when innocence wasn't stolen as it is today.I highly reccomended.
These old movies are great!!!.......2007-07-04
These movies are funny and well written. My husband even enjoys watching them with me. Also recommend that Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys series from the 1970s also available on DVD. Go Nancy, go!
Disappointed with quality.......2007-06-25
I was looking forward to owning these movies, having seen and enjoyed them on television over the years. When I got the dvd set, I found that there was no sound to go with the movies. Thinking that I had gotten a defective set, I exchanged them. It's the same problem with the new set, so I'm stuck with silent movies. My dvd player is of recent vintage and plays all forms of dvd's (even ones I've recorded). I hope your experience isn't the same as mine. :^(
Why that girl is such a card!.......2007-06-24
I was first introduced to Nancy Drew through the original books- I loved the books. Then I saw the show(s). I loved those very much. Finally I saw this movie on store shelf and had to have it. I loved it a lot because Bonita Granville played a very great Nancy.

OLD SCHOOL superheroes rock to a NEW SCHOOL beat!.......2007-07-09
Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman are just three of the characters that have been around for more than five decades but their popularity has never waned. When The Cartoon Network gave the go-ahead to produce a show based on DC's The Justice League, the Warner Brothers animation team produced a cleverly-written and really exciting series with updated takes on the aforementioned trio, along with The Flash, The Martian Manhunter, Green Lantern, and Hawkgirl.
When the actual third season began, the series revamped itself, not just with the core seven members but expanding the league to include over forty-five other superheroes in the DC Universe. Likewise, there was an increase in the villain quotient, not just dependable bad guys like Lex Luthor, The Joker, or Braniac, but including the likes of Gorilla Groud, Morgan LeFay, and an expanded Legion of Doom.
This compilation has some really standout installments: "For the Man Who Has Everything" takes a peek at an alternative life of Superman; "Kids Stuff" is an award-worthy tale of four Justice Leaguers turned into children; "This Little Piggy" is another lighter tale with a porcine Wonder Woman; and "The Return" is an exciting story with an impressive assault on The League by a super android.
"Wake the Dead" showcases the league's most sympathetic character, Hawkgirl, as she makes a poignant life-and-death decision for a resurrected Soloman Grundy. "Dark Heat" features a seemingly unstoppable alien armada that is defeated by the smallest member of the team. The two-part "The Once and Future Thing" is an imaginative journey through time.
However, the best of the bunch are the final eight installments, prior to "Epilogue," which brings the Cadmus storyline to a head. "Clash" features a slam-bang battle between Captain Marvel and Superman, while "Flashpoint" and "Panic in the Sky" have plot twists that couldn't be anticipated.
The aforementioned "Epilogue," which was scheduled to be the final episode, before the show was picked up for an additional thirteen shows, pays homage to not just this show but to "Batman: The Animated Series" and "Batman: Beyond."
The best thing about the series is its vocal casting. Besides the original cast members (George Newbern, Carl Lumbly, Michael Rosenbaum, Maria Canals, Susan Eisenberg, Phil Lamar, and Kevin Conroy), the show also boast a truly impressive array of guest artists.
The inspired casting of Fred Savage and Jason Hervey, brothers on "The Wonder Years", helps elevate the rather mundane "Hawk and Dove" to somewhat memorable status. The episode also has the distinctive pipes of Michael York as Aries, the god of war.
Recurring characters Dr. Hamilton and Amanda Waller are given wonderful life by guests Robert Foxworth and CCH Pounder, respectively.
And Emmy-winner Ed Asner does double duty by appearing as Hephaestus in "Hawk and Dove" and as the deliciously wicked Granny Goodness in "The Ties That Bind." The latter episode also features the genius casting of Arte Johnson, reprising his German accent from the old "Laugh-In" days in the from of Vermin Vunderbarr.
The show utilizes traditional pen-and-ink animation coupled with impressive computer graphics.
The bonus extras on the disc are also, noteworthy, especially the commentary on both "This Little Piggy" and "The Return."
not bad.......2007-06-09
i was orginally going to write a very negative review. but thats probably unwarranted in hindsight. as the season progresses, it definitely gets better, with some big storylines developing. but be warned: there are some real duds in the season. the introduction of comedy and more dc characters is definitely a negative.
a lot of people seem to think the unlimited seasons are far better than previous seasons. but as in most comic to screen adaptions, i think too many characters and/or villians 'spoils the broth' (spider-man 3 is a perfect example). the comedy doesnt really work either. the previous seasons were great for drama and action. but we are now left with less of that given the show must make way for comedy and lighter episodes. saying that, when the drama/action episodes do come up, they are done with the usual skill and perfection.
on a whole, i wouldnt rate the previous seasons below the unlimited relaunch.
Yeah...It's really that Good!!.......2007-05-25
Yes, our favorite characters finally go "Unlimited." What can I say. Grade A material. Great stories. Great Characters. Great fights. Did I say great stories? Get this. U don't know what you're missing. Spoilers: The cadmus angle was a great addition to this show. From beginning to end the epic stories just keep making you want to see more and more till finally Green Lantern says "Who guards the Guardians? We've got it covered." Fade to black! Then We get a bonus Epilogue with Batman Beyond, where Terry discoveres that Bruce is...well you'll see for yourself. This is what cartoons are meant to be. For all ages. The only think kiddie about this show is the pencil work. Definately get it. Don't wait!!
JLU - Season One: Excellent DC Comics DVD set!.......2007-05-21
This DVD set was purchased to complete my collection of animated series from the DC Comics universe. For anyone interested in collecting the "Justice League" series, please note that the first part of the collection is "Justice League of America" - Seasons 1 and 2. The JLA part of the series is followed by "Justice League Unlimited" - Seasons 1 and 2. In reality, all four 'seasons' comprise a 14-disc, 91 episode set of the Justice League series -- from the original 7-member league featured in the JLA episodes (Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern, Hawkgirl, and the Martian Manhunter) to the much larger, much broader collection of superheroes (including Supergirl, Vixen, Black Canary, Green Arrow, the Question ("Q"), the Huntress, and scores of others) who are featured along with the original 7 members in the JLU episodes.
Whether you just really enjoy well designed animation with good storylines, miss the Saturday morning hero cartoons of your youth (though these are WAY better), or subscribe to channels like the Cartoon Network so you can watch cartoons -- even when your kids aren't watching with you, you will truly enjoy owning this collection. (I own all four seasons of "Batman, The Animated Series," all three seasons of "Superman, the Animated Series," and the entire JLA/JLU series collection.)Justice League Unlimited - Season One (DC Comics Classic Collection)
Amazing.......2007-05-15
This show is amazing. It's the most gripping and captivating show I've seen lately, and I'm not just talking about cartoons. The characters are mature and appear as they do in the comic, not as they should to 5 year olds. This show is smart, and deep, and funny and the animation is simply stunning. I was a pretty hardcore comic fan and the first few episodes I was a little dissappointed. What I had liked about the first 2 seasons was that the show seemed like a Justice League of America comic book. You don't really get that feeling the first two episodes, but before you really realize what's happening; you don't care. You see Flash and Mister Miracle rescue Kalibek on Apokolips, or Green Arrow duke it out with Wildcat. Captain Atom AND Captain Marvel both throw down with Superman and it's absolutely amazing! There's also a continuing plotline and increasing tension between the expanded Justice League and Cadmus Labs. The final episode in this series appropiately titled "Epilogue" ties together every single DC animated Series from Superman: The Animated Series to Batman Beyond. This show is jaw dropping and shouldn't just be watched by kids. Anyone can appreciate this title.

In the final 13 episodes of Justice League Unlimited, Grodd recruits Lex Luthor, Sinestro, Bizarro, Giganta, and hordes of other villains to form the Legion of Doom, leading to numerous action-packed episodes of villains fighting the superheroes of the expanded JLU. The core members of the original series--Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Martian Manhunter, Hawkgirl, Flash, and Green Lantern--are supplemented by such heroes as Green Arrow, Black Canary, Supergirl, Red Tornado, and Mister Terrific. But even waves of super-beings would be a bore if the stories weren't compelling and well-thought-out, and dashed with humor. It's the respect for the viewer's intelligence that elevates JLU beyond a kids' series to arguably the best animated-superhero show ever.
During the season, Hawkgirl meets Katar Hol, Hawkman, who claims that he and Hawkgirl are the resurrection of centuries-ago lovers, which throws a wrench into her developing relationship with Green Lantern ("Shadow of the Hawk," "Ancient History"). Flash fights a rogue's gallery of his arch enemies alongside Batman and Orion ("Flash and Substance"), Luthor switches brains with the Flash in "The Great Brain Robbery" (inside joke: Michael Rosenbaum is the voice of Flash, but plays Lex Luthor in the series Smallville) , and Luthor's and Grodd's struggle for dominance of the Legion of Doom comes to a head in the final two-parter, which leads to an unlikely partnership against the ultimate supervillain. The series also dips into other characters and realms of DC comic-book lore, such as the Legion of Super-Heroes ("Far from Home"), Deadman ("Dead Reckoning"), the Seven Soldiers of Victory ("Patriot Act"), Birds of Prey ("Grudge Match"), and Mike Grell's Warlord ("Chaos at the Earth's Core"). In the bonus features, the series creators discuss JLU's ongoing Cadmus story line, there's a music-only track of the series' final episode, and the creators do a 30-minute on-screen commentary talking about three late-season episodes. --David Horiuchi

Customer Reviews:
An animated series that goes out in a BIG WAY!.......2007-07-07
Producers/writers Bruce Timm, James Tucker, and Dwayne McDuffie thought that season four would be the end of the series; however, Cartoon Network, which broadcast the show, gave the go-ahead for thirteen more episodes, making for a fifth and final season. Thus, the creative team pulled out all the stops and delivered stories that were tightly woven, brilliantly animated, and superbly acted by regular performers, as well as featured players.
These are some of the most entertaining shows of the five-year-old series.
Acting-wise, Kevin Conroy has had close to twenty years providing the voice of the animated Batman and he knows the character backwards and forward. Kudos should also go to Clancy Brown's "Lex Luthor," Michael Rosenbaum's "The Flash," Carl Lumbly's "Martian Manhunter," Susan Eisenberg's "Wonder Woman," and Maria Canals' "Hawkgirl." And one cannot overlook the contributions of recurring actors and their characters: CCH Pounder ("Amanda Waller), Michael Ironside ("Darkseid"), Powers Boothe ("Gorilla Grodd") and J.K. Simmons ("General Eiling").
The best episodes on the disc are the homage-to-things-past "I am Legion," the delightful "Flash and Substance" and its similarly constructed "The Great Brain Robbery," the reflective "Patriot Act," and the two-tiered punch of "Alive!" and "Destroyer," both which bring back favorite villains Darkseid and Brainiac.
Though billed as a "children's show," there are hints of bestiality, sexual innuendo, political correctness gone overboard, and bloodless battles that feature implied decapitations and/or deaths in massive explosions.
Thus, this isn't your father's "Challenge of the Superfriends" and it may require parental guidance should some questions arise about the characters' actions.
Another Fabulous Season.......2007-06-27
Definitely not as good as season one, but let's face it: how could they have done better than season one? Also, a lot of the storylines lack closure. However, apart from that (and a serious lack of the Question) season two offers the same quality storyline, humor, and entertainment that we've come to expect. It's only half as long as the other seasons, but old fans of Justice Friends will appreciate the Legion of Doom plotline, and the last two episodes are amazing.
Great buy. If you've got the other three seasons, you definitely can't pass this up, but you certainly don't have to have seen the others to get your money's worth of entertainment out of this season.
And Justice For All.......2007-06-02
Who couldn't love this series? Besides being arguably the finest action cartoon conceieved, it features the greatest pop culture icons out there. Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, the Flash, and over 50 other DC Universe characters each with their own quirks, strengths, and weaknesses. The series alternates from absolutely hilarious to deeply serious, each episode is a gem in and of itself. The only problem with the series is that it ended far too soon. Highly recommended to all people of all ages.
Totally enjoyed it.......2007-05-28
Not a lot to say except that I totally enjoyed JLU. It was
great to sit back kick back and enjoy the old team despite the fact
that most of the focus was on the bad guys. They were funny in themselves.
Anyway recommend any JLU fan to have a squiz and see for yourself.
Is this the end?? Say it ain't so........2007-05-25
No matter what anyone says, you have to have this! It's the end!! How can you miss the end of one of the greatest cartoons to ever hit television screens??? Huh?? Anyway,JLU ends with (Spoilers) the introduction to the Legion of Doom. This is only two disks so you'll probably breese through them pretty quick once you get hooked. I must say that the Superheroine brawl in Grudge Match was some of the craziest cartoon fighting I've ever seen. Darkseid looks really cool when he is resurrected by that idiotic Lex Luthor. As usual, Batman is the man! Just thought I should put that in. Well, I guess we say goodbye to Green Lantern, Hawkgirl (who's love triangle keeps you guessing)Flash(whose pretty much an open book) Jonn Jon'zz (Who has a family now! Who woulda thought)Wonder Woman (Ms. Princess of the Universe) Superman (The man of steel) Batman (The Man!!) and all the other dozens of DC heroes. We also say goodbye to excellent script writing and story lines as we enter the new age of C-class cartoons such as "The Batman" and "Legion of Superheroes." If you haven't gotten this best of the best cartoon yet, GET IT NOW!! Because it's not only the last of JLU, but the last of good cartoons period.

Nice Marketting.......2007-07-05
This collection was a Father's Day gift for my husband, yet I was thoroughly impressed by the packaging and presentation of it all as well. Very nice job!
Of course he loved it, he is/was a devoted West Wing fan!!
Title.......2007-07-04
I have really been enjoying this dvd set. They really went all out on the packaging... they didn't "phone it in" at all. I'm on to season 4 now so you know it's gettin' good... :)
A Television classic.......2007-06-29
This very impressive Complete Collection has given me the chance to revisit a show I love and adore. I think this series is a television classic that ranks alongside Hill Street Blues. This series has one of America's finest writers - Aaron Sorkin. It also has one of the finest ensemble casts that I have ever seen in any broadcast medium. And a sense of humor, optimism, hope and whimsy that I find deeply moving.
One of the morals is that doing the right thing and having the courage of your convictions is far harder than taking the easier politically convenient route. A lesson that we should all learn. What's also amazing is how the show preempts so many of the issues we're grappling now - Privacy and Terrorism being two examples.
Seasons 1-4 are absolutely fantastic. Seasons 5-7 is a definite drop-in quality, mostly due to Aaron Sorkin's absence. Many characters actions aren't consistent with how they'd been previously established. Will Bailey was a great speechwriter, not a political operative. Toby betraying the President? CJ as Chief of Staff? And why wasn't Leo promoted to VP? Nevertheless these seasons are still watchable - providing you accept it's John Wells "ER-in-the-West-Wing".
Seasons 1-4 at least, are classic television. and if you love intelligent, literate television which respects the intelligence of the viewer - then please buy this Collection. You won't regret it.
Very Confusing.......2007-06-27
I received two complete sets (one replacing the other) because the first disk, first show, first series etc., started in the middle of the third season...both original sets sent to me. You could not watch show number 1, season number 1 because the disks were not in any order and to give them to my 84 year mother who loves the show and tell her that they aren't in order but go ahead and enjoy them, was not going to work...so I'm hoping I receive my money back because I have sent both complete sets back.
Two weeks without sleep.......2007-06-15
Never having seen the show on TV (I've lived in Jordan since before it came out) I was immediately hooked. Forget dinners, committments, and sleep.....you'll want to get right through the whole set. I found myself rushing home from work just to catch the next episodes, and suddenly realizing it was again 4 in the morning..... It also makes you wish our political parties--both of them--could check around and come up with candidates as good as these for the next elections! Not much chance, but this series at least lets us dream the dream.

Frederick "Tex" Avery directed some of the funniest cartoons ever made, but he relied primarily on situations and moving graphics, rather than on the personalities of familiar characters. Droopy, the phlegmatic basset hound, was one of the few characters Avery used regularly: His low-key presence was the perfect counter to the extreme takes, fast cuts, frenetic action, and general mayhem going on around him. Avery is also noted for "self-reflexive gags:" the characters know they're in a cartoon and often comment on the fact. In "Dumb-Hounded,"a sprinting wolf cuts a corner too sharply, skids past the sprocket holes at the edge of the film, and onto the blank screen. Droopy frequently turns to the camera and comments, "You now what? I'm happy." Some of the later films in the collection, made by animators Dick Lundy and Michael Lah, lack Avery's manic panache. The last cartoons in the collection were designed for the CinemaScope format: Droopy's pudgy form looks lost in those vast frames, and the flattened graphics pioneered by the UPA studio distort his rounded shape. But those are minor caveats. Fans have waited impatiently for Tex Avery's seminal cartoons to be released on DVD in the US, and this collection is a must-have for anyone interested in animation.(Unrated, suitable for ages 6 and older: cartoon violence, alcohol and tobacco use, risqué humor) --Charles Solomon
Description
Droopy, a detective basset hound, lulls the bad guys into a false sense of security by acting slow and dumb when in actual fact he is a genius. The shrewd Droopy always outwits his enemies! Droopy Dog was a low-key animated movie character created by Tex Avery at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer in 1943, this mournful deadpan witty Basset hound detective who spoke in a jowly monotone voice and, though he didn't look like much, was shrewd enough to outwit his enemies - the conniving Butch the Irish bulldog and the thieving, nasty wolf and English Fox.

Documentaries:"Droopy and Friends: A Laugh Back" Â - a documentary retrospective featuring the highlights of Tex Averys iconic character and band of regular misfits, which made the collection so memorable and dear to our hearts. Â Peppered through the featurette will be moments reflecting on Texs early days, from inspiration, to his passions as an artist, entertainer and eventual auteur.
Gag Reel:'Doggone Gags" - a montage of great moments from the Droopy series, culled together in the fashion of a gag reel.
Customer Reviews:
Great collection of one of the best cartoon dogs ever!.......2007-07-06
I bought this set to share with my kids, who love them, but I probably watch them just as much or more than they do. They're hilarious & not a bad one in the mix. The price on Amazon is pretty fair. I haven't seen 'em for less. To all those nostalgic for the real cartoons of yesteryear, I highly recommend this set!
Droopy DVDS.......2007-07-05
Our grandchildren really enjoyed this collection.
We purchased it for ourselves for "old times sake"
It was hysterical - brought back many warm memories.
The boys thought the old Popeye and Looney tunes
cartoons were the best.
Definitely recommend for the baby boomer set !!
Avery's genius.......2007-07-03
Avery's Droopy cartoons contain some of his best gags and backgrounds. It's wonderful seeing it in DVD form. As a proud owner of "The Complete Tex Avery" on Laser Disk, I have been enjoying them for years. My only wish? That they continue putting out more Avery until they have covered all the cartoons on that legendary laser set! Please, please??
The title says it all!.......2007-07-02
Frederick "Tex" Avery, late of the Warner Bros. animation studio, created a basset hound named Droopy shortly after arriving at MGM in 1942. I'm sure Avery sorely missed his WB stars Bugs Bunny,Daffy Duck and others. Avery's unresolved rift with WB producer Leon Schlesinger led to the transfer to MGM. Anyway, here are all of Droopy's(that particular adjective describes the hound's voice) adventures where we see him outsmarting villains and criminals such as in DUMB HOUNDED,NORTHWEST HOUNDED POLICE and others. Avery would later transfer to Wanter Lantz studios, where Woody Woodpecker is that studio's biggest star. Michael Lah assumed the responsibilities at Avery's off-leaving at MGM. Droopy would later appear on the small screen in television cartoons and broadcasts of the theatrical cartoons. It has been a few years since the theatrical cartoons aired on the Cartoon Network. I also used to see them on New York-based,independent WPIX Channel 11 in my native New Jersey also on Philadelphia-based and independent WTAF(now WTXF) Channel 29(this station was part of our cable television line-up until TNT(Turner Network Television) was launched on October 1,1988.). Most of these cartoons contained herein were part of the now-out-of-print collection,THE COMPLEAT TEX AVERY(it was only available on laser disc). Droopy fans also love Barney Bear,Screwy Squirrel,Spike and Tyke and of course,MGM's best-loved stars,Tom and Jerry. I dedicate this item to the memory of Avery(1908-1980).
Still Droopy After All These Years.......2007-07-02
Without a doubt, Tex Avery directed some of the funniest Hollywood cartoons ever made influencing generations of animators and directors to come! Tex directed noteworthy cartoons at Warner Brothers in the 1930s and was considered to be the father of the Bugs Bunny we all came to know from 1940 on. But, once Tex made the move to MGM, he hit the ground running. Almost at once, Tex's cartoons took on a slicker, faster, more irreverent tone which seemed to increase with each cartoon he made. His first efforts at the lavish MGM studio brought us "The Early Bird Dood It", "What's Buzzin' Buzzard" and "Blitz Wolf", the latter a hilarious WWII retelling of the 3 Little Pigs, featuring a Big Bad Wolf (who bears a striking resemblance to Hitler) getting his comeuppance from the smart little pig "Sergeant Pork". Droopy is one of Tex's few reoccurring characters, preceded briefly by Screwy Squirrel, a.... screwy squirrel who was hilarious and irreverent like Bugs Bunny but with slightly less charm which could make him grating. Droopy, the sardonic and ubiquitous hound, had the charm and wit needed to carry him though nearly 2 decades of the theatrical shorts featured in this collection. Now, It is interesting to note that, though most of the cartoons are Tex's, a few of the later cartoons (mostly the Cinema-scope offerings) were directed by Tex animator Michael Lah, who took over directing duties when an exhausted Tex left MGM for a rest, later resurfacing at Universal to make 3 brilliant cartoons for Walter Lantz before going into television to do animated commercials for another decade or so. Lah's cartoons continue the breakneck pacing set up by Tex, but sported greater stylization, in both characters and backgrounds, very reminiscent of the early Hanna Barbera television cartoons. And, why not? These later Droopy cartoons featured the inspired work of Lah, Ed Benedict, Dick Bickenbach, Fernando Montealegre and others who would later on lend their great talents to H & B shaping the look of it's early cartoon production for television. In the end, this is a really great collection of MGM cartoons (very nice prints, good sound, interesting extras), but just a fraction of the many wonderful cartoons Tex Avery directed during his stint at the studio. I hope that this collection will lead to another DVD set featuring Tex's other stellar MGM work such as "Red Hot Riding Hood", "Lonesome Lenny", "Bad Luck Blackie", "King Size Canary" and many, many more currently available only on VHS or Laserdisc.

Culled from 30 years of material, this collection of moments from The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson contains some of most inspired bits of lunacy ever recorded. Whether cajoling with Hollywood's biggest stars or normal folk with special talents, Carson was a master of finding the right joke, with timing second to none. Along with bits of his opening monologues, skits, and early standup appearances from the likes of David Letterman and Eddie Murphy, there are many highlights with perhaps the perfect Carson guest--exotic animals that stole the show. This collection was released shortly after Carson's reign ended in 1992. Although most of the tapes from his first decade are lost, there are plenty of highlights from the '70s through the '90s. Also included is Carson's touching and historic "Final Show," which finds the host simply talking to his audience and showing highlights--or just the faces--from his years on the set. Although many followed--and a few have even succeeded--Carson's Midwest charm made him the king of TV in a period when America was defined by television.
The DVD edition adds some superlative extras, including "Danger Johnny" segments from his first decade, short bits on the history of the show and the host, and more behind-the-scenes glances, including an intriguing way to watch the final show via unedited feeds from isolated studio cameras. Also included is the 1982 NBC special "Johnny Goes Home," which follows Carson on a tour of his rural Nebraska homeland, and a slightly edited version of the penultimate show, in which his last two guests, Robin Williams and Bette Midler, are on fire. These extras make the DVD, produced a decade after Carson left, a must-have piece of entertainment and pop history. --Doug Thomas
Description
On his final Tonight Show telecast, Johnny Carson summed up the feelings of a nation of late night viewers. Host of the most highly-acclaimed late night show in television history, for seven presidential administrations, Johnny's monologue was a nightly barometer of the times. While his wide range of characters, comic impersonations and merry band of Tonight Show regulars became fixtures of pop culture, his guest list was a virtual Who's Who of show business legends, sports heroes, authors, heads of state, amazing animals and average citizens with above average talents. For fans of Johnny, The Tonight Show and 30 wonderful years of laughter, this is the definitive retrospective chronicling television's late night legend and legacy. Enjoy.

Heeeereee's Johnny! at his best!.......2007-07-07
If you're a Johnny Carson fan, this is manna from heaven. You've doubtless seen these clips before on the Tonight Show's anniversary shows, but the edited verson of each decade flows seamlessly through the years of the Tonight Show. The inclusion of Johnny comes home and the last two shows add some spice to the already sweet pot. The beauty of these DVDs is that you can show them to people who were just born when Johnny went off the air and they will love him.
"The answer is high five," says Karnak the Magnificient. "What will you give yourself after buying and watching this DVD collection."
YOU MUST SEE 'THE GREAT FLYDINI"...THE BEST OF CARSON!.......2007-06-10
WE BOUGHT THIS SET AS A GIFT WITH INSTRUCTIONS ON FINDING THE SEGMENT OF STEVE MARTIN'S "GREAT FLYDINI" ROUTINE. THE RECIPIENT WATCHED IT OVER AND OVER AND WE MUTUALLY DECIDED MARTIN IS A COMIC GENIUS...AND THAT CARSON KNEW AND APPRECIATED THE BEST TALENT ON EARTH. MAKES A GREAT GIFT OF LAUGHTER.
A More Definitive and Comprehensive Release Needed In Honor of Johnny.......2007-05-18
A lot has changed with " Johnny's Favorite Moments" since their original early 90's release on VHS. I picked up this set and noticed some skits were left off. The late Sam Kinison is a good example, and his Elvis lullaby ode to women who have torn his heart out.
Where is it? Another volume? I have noticed other volumes, but these are unavailable. I just remember there being so much more than what is on this DVD set.
Anyway, a more comprehensive/definitive release should be produced. The red carpet needs to be rolled out in honor of a comic genius and his wide-spread influence on an American mainstream audience that couldn't get enough of him. Wouldn't you agree?
The Ultimate Johnny Carson Collection - His Favorite Moments from The Tonight Show (Vols. 1-3) (1962-1992).......2007-05-10
great dvd esp if you like johnny carson...it was great
Disappointing.......2007-04-11
The great comics that appeared for years on the Tonight Show, such as Don Rickles and Rodney Dangerfield, are largely ignored. All the great band music isn't here. Only one singer is featured, Bette Midler, crooning to Johnny on the final show. Only traces of the opening monologues appear. The best feature is a Steve Martin bit on the second disc: The Great Flydini. Now that's funny! But on the whole, this is a great disappointment, and certainly not worth the money.

3rd Disk Bombed Out!.......2007-07-08
Buyers beware... issues playing this HDVD boxset on the XBOX360 HDVD player. Matrix Revolutions won't play at all! (third disk)... all other disks are fine and after a bit of research on the internet I found many have had issues with Matrix boxset on the 360 ... Hopefully a 360 update will be provided soon till then don't expect it to play flawlessly if your luck is anything like mine. With the exception of the disk that won't play the other movie recordings are superb.
Incredible........2007-07-05
These are some of the best HiDef discs yet released. The TrueHD audio is fantastic, and the clartity of the 1080p/24 video transfer is simply amazing.
Frankly, with this set I have come to the conclusion that a good home theater with HD DVD is capable of better reproduction than you can get in any but the best commercial theaters.
Awesome picture and sound quality!.......2007-06-27
This movie on HD-DVD is outstanding. It's really like seeing it for the first time all over again compared to standard definition. But not just for the incredible picture detail, but equally important is the major improvement in the sound.
I would highly recommend this to anyone that is looking for the current standard in HD-DVD PQ, SQ and it is a good movie also.
Disappointing - The Matrix is out of sync.......2007-06-27
I was very disappointed with The Matrix. While the quality of the video transfer is excellent, the audio is slightly out-of-sync, which makes it difficult to watch at times. This is not an issue with either Reloaded or Revolutions.
I don't understand how something like this could have happened. The flagship movie of the three has got serious audio problems. Very disappointing.
I give the whole set a 3, but for The Matrix it deserves much lower than that. It's too bad too, because if The Matrix were in sync, then I'd give the whole set a much better grade.
STUNNING!.......2007-06-26
All I can say is ... it was as good as watching it in the theatre for the first time. Amazing HD conversion ... superior audio quality ... Absolutely stunning!
I should add that I watched all three of these in my xbox 360 HD-DVD (fully patched) and I had ZERO problems with any of these discs. I don't know why these others are having issues.
