Description
The classic YES line-up of Jon Anderson, Steve Howe, Chris Squire, Rick Wakeman and Alan White joined forces once again to celebrate their historic 35 years of creating music and memories together.
Customer Reviews:
A Major Disappointment.......2007-05-21
Poor recording, wimpy performances, bizarre editing and goofy graphics at the the beginning of each song made this DVD a real bust. I should have taken to heart a similarly dismal review by another purchaser before I bought this disc. I'm sorry to have to say this about one of my favorite groups of all time, but, they should be embarrased for letting this disc be released.
The Jon Anderson Show.......2007-04-04
The mix here is disgraceful: Steve Howe and Rick Wakeman are kept on a tight leash so as not to compete with Jon's vocals. It was the ultimate tease to have this set list presented to any one weaned on Yes from the "Yes Album" to "Going For The One".
Every time you think they are going to explode into some kind of cathartic jam, you strain to hear Steve and Rick. Jon Anderson destroyed this band a number of times thinking that these musicians were back-up to his vocals.
Do yourself a favor and buy the "YesSongs" DVD. When they play the intro to "Close To The Edge", you will know why you became a Yes fan so many years ago: 5 exceptional musicians sharing the stage to explode into orbit. This latest fiasco is a one man show, dressed up like Yes.
I hope Steve and Rick got sizable checks for this.
excellently preformed!.......2007-03-23
this is there best dvd to date and it should being there 35TH annv. jons voice is as tho he was singing in the 70's. the rest of the band doesnt miss a beat i think there even better now that ever.if you dont own it its your mistake. well worth it.
what were they thinking........2007-03-09
OK ,ever since Bruford, squire ,anderson etc blew me away with "america" on a K-TEL compilation I have welcomed anything by the band. This half hearted attempt..first half was enjoyable, but I guess they were so worn out by the end of the half they had to move to an accoustic set. What a let down.Take a tip guys and watch other bands ie TOTO do an anniversary concert ala Amsterdam live.
Yes-Songs from Tsongas-35th anniversary Concert.......2007-01-18
For those of you who did not catch the tour, this is a must have item. For those of us who did catch Yes in concert, this is a great way to remember what it was like. The amazing thing is that these guys just keep getting better. Despite a review I read disrespecting Alan White's playing on this tour, I rebuke that statement as a percussion educator and reaffirm that Alan White is one of the greatest drummers of all time. The camera angles are excellent, and the videographers seem to be at ther right place at the right time. Highly reccommended for all Yes Fans.

Customer Reviews:
TD is the best!........2007-06-13
Why do I give it 4 stars even when is the second best DVD from Tangerine Dream (TD) that I have in my collection??.
Well it is because the video and audio quality sucks!!. Specially the audio. Looks to me that the sound engineer is
an amateur. The left channel has like a 3db less than the right channel in almost all the video. That is something
very annoying for me.
On the other hand, I give 5 stars to Tangerine Dream. TD is the BEST!. The music selection and the live performance
is awesome!. This TD live performance is a time travel from the 70's to the early days of the New Millennium with
the following selection:
1. Ricochet Part.1 Intro (is it part 2 ??)
2. Phaedra '05
3. Mysterious Semblance at the Strand of Nightmares
4. Rubycon Pt. 1
5. Force Majeure
6. Desert Dream
7. Underwater Twilight
8. Warsaw in the Sun
9. Midnight in Tula
10. Silver Scale
11. Logos
12. Choronzon
13. Poland
14. Song of the Whale Pt. 2/ Pt. 3 (piano parts)
----
15. Oriental Haze
16. Bridge
17. Towards the Evening Star (Blue Gravity Mix)
18. Catwalk
19. Melrose
20. Back Street Hero
21. Rising Haul in Silence
22. Lamb with Radar Eyes
23. Meta Morph Magic
24. Talking To Maddox
25. Homeless
26. Purple Haze
27. Edgar's Closing Words
Running time: 167 mins. What a way to celebrate more than 250 hours of music after 35 years!!.
I have the 2 DVD signed limited edition. The bonus DVD has interviews with all the members of the band and some
extras like the soundcheck performance, fans interviews, and a photograph slideshow of the concert.
This 35th Phaedra Anniversary Concert is a must for every fan of TD. It is a good "sampler" of all TD music.
I also highly recommend the other TD live performance DVD: Tempodrom Live Concert 2006.
Greetings from Mexico City.
Tempodrom.

Shot during the group's 35th anniversary European tour, Yesspeak offers a 169-minute documentary about the classic progressive rock band Yes, together with an audio-only presentation of their 2003 set. The feature, narrated by Roger Daltrey, is a refreshingly straightforward affair, with a near three-hour running time allowing rather more depth than the usual rockumentary. Divided into 10 chapters, the program systematically covers the background, history, and outlook of the group before an extended interview with each of the five members of the classic lineup: Jon Anderson (vocals), Steve Howe (guitar), Chris Squire (bass), Alan White (drums), and Rick Wakeman (keys). Finally there are more general sections on touring and the band's music. Archive material and glimpses of the 2003 tour are interwoven with the interviews, but this is very much a documentary, not a concert (to see Yes at their modern best, watch Yes: Symphonic Live, 2002).
The documentary puts a positive spin on a sometimes checkered past, and it's clearly aimed at long-term fans, but for those who have followed Yes through the decades this is satisfyingly comprehensive and thoroughly enjoyable; from Steve Howe's famous but still entertaining guitar/Concord story, to Rick Wakeman's tea break during a typically expansive solo. --Gary S. Dalkin
Customer Reviews:
Roger, you talk too much.......2006-05-13
Yes has been my favorite band since the early 70's (yes, I am that old). So naturally I enjoy seeing interviews, hearing some history about the band, etc. But Roger Daltry's narration was irritating beyond belief. He seemed to know exactly when not to speak - and then spoke. His narration provided little information; it was mostly overly exaggerated adjectives about the greatness of YES (don't get me wrong - they are great, but Daltry made it sound phoney). The audio quality was decent, but there wasn't even one uninterrupted song in the video. I did learn more about YES in this one video than everything I previously knew. It was nice to see the human side of these larger than life (no pun Chris) musical geniuses. They have always been somewhat of an enigma and videos like this help take away some of the mystery. Even though I gave it 3 stars, I still feel it was worth the cost (about $10 on ebay).
THE LIVE CONCERT TRACKS ARE THE PRIZE HERE, ADJUST YOUR EQ!.......2006-01-12
100% PURE GOLD; THE LIVE CONCERT MUSICAL PORTION IS MIND-BLOWING MUSICALE CRAFTSMANSHIP!!! LISTEN THRU HEADPHONES, ADJUST THE LOW SONIC FREQUENCIES SO THAT ALLEN'S BASS DRUM CAN BE HEARD.
LAY BACK AND CLOSE YOUR EYES AND LISTEN TO RICK'S EXPERTISE ON AWAKEN. LET YES DO THEIR THING, THEY ARE THE MASTERS OF THIS CRAFT! THE DREAMSCAPE'S THEY PROVIDE ARE CRYSTAL CLEAR AND POSITIVE, NO OTHER BAND ON THIS PLANET HAS SURVIVED THIS LONG AND CAN STILL PRODUCE REAL POSITIVE PYCRONAUTIC VISIONS THAT ARE MEANINGFUL TO ONE'S PAST AND PRESENT SPIRITUAL EVOLUTION!
Do NOT buy!!!.......2005-12-28
I bought this thinking it was going to be a full live set. I gotta admit, the song list they had sounded quite impressive. All I got was a documentary with ten second passages from the songs, and I wasn't interested in that at all. They have a full concert inside but only in audio, and it's inferior quality. If you want to see the members talk then this is for you, otherwise don't buy it. They could have a at least clearly said it was a documentary and not a live set. This is what happens when you buy something before reading online reviews!
YESCHAT.......2005-10-31
The five members of Yes are profiled and speak casually to the camera about the longevity of the band and it's future. Video and audio concert bites make one hungry for a complete Yes show, and the whole purpose of this three hour documentary seems to be an incentive to purchase a ticket the next time Yes roll into town. Still, it's refreshing to see this elusive band letting their hair down and revealing themselves to the camera. Drummer Alan White, often the most subdued Yes-man, comes across as the more personable and reflective member, looking bright-eyed and healthful, speaking from his recreational boat somewhere in northwest America. The photography of the disc, although little more than following them around on tour, and recording them in their homes, is sharp and vivid, and the audio concert is exceptional, as we can expect from Yes. The narration from paycheck hungry (?) Roger Daltry is awful, sounding like a Monty Python bit straining to be heard over the documentary soundtrack. And I hate to mention it, but these guys can't dress. They collectively look like they're wearing the results of a crash landing in a colorful hot air balloon.
Managing Expectations.......2005-08-24
A previous reviewer wrote: "I bought this DVD... not because of the documentary... but because of the complete Audio concert promised on the packaging. It is all about the music after all. But the packaging also promises Stereo sound, but in two different DVD players, I was not able to find the Stereo soundtrack. A lot of people do not necessarily have a 5.1 setup and/or prefer to listen to music in stereo rather than 5.1. But if you try to listen to a 5.1 soundtrack on a stereo setup, it sounds just like this DVD: unbalanced at times, hollow at other times. So the question is: how do you get the stereo soundtrack promised in the packaging?"
That review mirrored my own reasons for purchasing this DVD; i.e., as the YESWORLD site had made it clear long before its release that the DVD did not include a film of the concert, I had purchased it expecting to acquire a new "reference" disc in terms of audio fidelity of what I knew would be an audio-only recording of the 2002 tour for which I was able to attend two shows. Our DVD players enable the user to switch between audio options, (for example, from LPCM to DD 5.1 to DTS, etc.), without returning to the menu. However, for the audio concert on Disc 2 of YESSPEAK, I was unable to find an audio option for the concert via the menu nor access audio options through direct switching on our DVD players.
I purchased a new system in 2004 and had used the YES Symphonic DVD as a reference in picking out both the audio and video components. I was expecting the YESSPEAK audio-only concert to at least match the sound quality of the 5.1 mix of Homeworld on the House of YES DVD or YES Symphonic where, if you close your eyes, you might think the lads are playing in the room. I am thankful that my favourite band for over 30 years is still bringing so much enjoyment after all these years. YES have always prided themselves in being sound perfectionists and alledgedly almost bankrupted themselves when they bought Iron Butterfly's sound system early in there career. The sound quality of the YESSPEAK concert, however, is not quite up to standard and seems, at times, even flatter than some bootleg soundboard recordings of the band. By way of comparison, the remastered and expanded Tormato sounds fantastic on this system as does the DVD of the Zeppelin performance at the Royal Albert Hall recorded in 1971! In fact, from Bach to Vivaldi, from the Beatles to Neil Young, the sound on YESSPEAK comes up a littlet short of other discs I've played. Particularly given the excellent song selection, the sound is a bit disappointing aside from the fact that, in contrast to YES Symphonic, there is no DTS track for the concert and the LPCM track, if it is there as indicated on the back cover, is not readily accessible.
On the positive side, the price is less than that of the CD version of YESSONGS. Twenty dollars for a full concert in 5.1..., relatively "speaking", it's a bargain.

Customer Reviews:
The Great Modern Jazz Quartet in a 1987 Concert.......2006-02-07
There is some sadness in watching this wonderful concert DVD of the MJQ recorded in 1987 at a jazz festival in Freiburg, Germany, because they are all gone now. Percy Heath, the elegant bassist, was the last to die, just last year (2005), John Lewis only four years before that. This group grew out of the rhythm section of the 1940s and 50s Dizzy Gillespie band. Their official founding was in 1952 but they had been playing together unofficially for some time before that. The combination of Milt Jackson's bebop vibraphone and John Lewis's classically restrained piano, backed by Heath on bass (was there ever a bassist who was so consistently in tune?) and Connie Kay on drums, was an unforgettable sound. I came to this group from a completely classical background, attracted by its gentle persuasion, and it has been one of my favorite groups for almost fifty years now. John Lewis managed to put classical forms and techniques to use in his numbers, such as 'A Day in Dubrovnik' included in this concert, and that was my 'hook' into this group's distinctive style.
For those of you familiar with the group's repertoire it might be helpful to know what pieces they play here. They are Ellington's 'Rockin' in Rhythm', Jackson's 'Echoes', Lewis's 'Kansas City Breaks' (I particularly like this one because I lived in KC for forty years), 'Django', 'Summertime', 'Bags' Groove' (Milt Jackson's nickname was 'Bags'), and 'A Day in Dubrovnik'. To quote what someone once said about Milt Jackson, but applied by me to the whole group: 'If [they] ever did once play a non-swinging note, it must have been in private.'
The music of four distinguished looking gentlemen in tuxedos calmly playing with all the dignity of a classical string quartet is a way into jazz for anyone reading this review who is unfamiliar with the genre, and I'd advise them to get this DVD and begin enjoying one of the great groups of all time, and at the top of their game. And for those of you who already know the MJQ's work, no recommendation is needed other than to tell you that this is neatly filmed and recorded and is a marvelous example of this great group's work.

Success, Caravan Style.......2007-01-10
First off, I'm a huge Caravan fan. I saw their first 2 US tours back in the '70's. I saw them upon their return to the US in twothouusandgodI'moldnow. This DVD is a great show, although the audio is not perfectly mixed, and should be a part of every Caravan collection. Don't put off buying this DVD, do it now!
One of Caravan's hottest Performances.......2006-02-02
Not much to say except if you are a fan of Caravan, buy this DVD. Good mixture of older and newer material, band plays with a lot of energy and there is a good menu of songs. Sound quality is acceptable, although not up to the standards on some of the newer DVD's. Also, some very enjoyable banter between songs. Only disappointment is there was nothing really unexpected, and Caravan has many live albums out with many of the same songs. Would have been nice to get something a little more unexpected
