Description
Georgia-based rock band Widespread Panic may well be the best-kept secret in rock and roll. Now, for the first time, fans can open a door to the band's musical life and soul. "The Earth Will Swallow You" explored the band's relationships with each other, its own music and the musicians who have influenced its sound and repertoire. The film follows Widespread Panic's Another Joyous Occasion Tour, showcasing performances at bellweather venues such as majestic Red Rocks Amphitheatre, San Francisco's Warfield Theatre and New York's Central Park as well as smaller theatres and cities of America's heartland. Through onstage highlights and candid off-stage moments, audiences gain an intimate view of the creative and professional lives of this beloved group of musicians. The film also spotlights never-before-seen footage of the band teaming with legendary artists, including Jorma Kaukonen, Taj Mahal, Merl Saunders and Vic Chesnutt. Featuring unreleased version of "Chilly Water," "Action Man," "Driving Song" and the rare instrumental "The Earth Will Swallow You," it's a film that will delight the band's legendary fan base and fascinate anyone who loves live music.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars I Love this Movie!.......2007-06-10

I saw TEWSY when it premiered at the Boulder Theatre in 2002. I loved it then, and I love it today. This movie rocks! The Hanson Bros did a great job. I would recommend this movie to anyone who has the slightest interest in WSP.

2 out of 5 stars Good, but............2003-10-12

This is a pretty good movie. The live stuff is the higlight here, and it is really great. The highlight would have to be the segue of different versions of "Action Man". However, there is a lot of needless stuff here: interviews that don't say much (like clips of the band at a baseball game or at a Star Trek store????) and some other stuff that they should have left out. The studio footage is pretty good, but is shot in a very odd sort of home-movie style. I would have just released most of the Red Rocks concert. This is Ok, but it would have been better if they would have just gone with the live footage.

1 out of 5 stars if it would let me I'd have put a zero.......2003-01-11

I am a Widespread fan who was greatly looking forward to the release of this DVD. But, when I watched it I was not only disappointed with the work of the Hanson Bros., but generally the entire DVD as well. Sure watch it if you're a fan for kicks, but don't expect too much.

I saw this DVD on a first date and I had never heard widespread panic before...being a hip hop kind of girl, I was amazed to have actually liked this DVD..I got into it and halfway through wanted to see them in concert. So if you are a fan of Phish or WSP or the Dead or alike...you will like this..just dedicate some time, its a little lengthy
