Deep in the heart of turn-of-the-century India, a young mongoose is adopted by a British family. "Every well-bred mongoose hopes to be a house mongoose someday," narrates Orson Welles and indeed, bushy-tailed RIKKI-TIKKI-TAVI does just that (and more) in this exciting Rudyard Kipling classic. Protecting his "family" to the death, Rikki battles Nag and Nagaina - two hideously evil cobra snakes who want to kill the humans in order to safely hatch their eggs. In a career spanning over 60 years, Chuck Jones made more than 300 animated films, winning an Oscar as director, and in 1996 received an Honorary Oscar for Lifetime Achievement. Among his many achievements was the establishment of his own production company. Chuck Jones Enterprises, through which he wrote, directed and produced the animated films presented on this DVD.     5 out of 5 stars remember wholesome viewing?.......2007-05-13

    While aimed at a younger audience (5-10), these two animated features is good viewing for all ages. Rikki Tikki is a fine retelling of a classic children's story with strong moral overtones. Yankee Doodle Cricket is a recreation of the founding of our country with a group of patriotic critters leading the charge. Both features are short enough to not drive a parent crazy as it plays over and over. A nice change from dancing elves and singing dinosaurs.

    I absolutely loved Rikki Tikki as a kid. It came on every year and i could not wait. It was kinda scary for a six year old, but i loved it. Orsen Wells voice is so elegant and warm and the animation, though not Disney standards, was well done. The story is about Rikki Tikki's love for a boy and lengths he goes through to save he and his family from the Cobra's in the graden. The sitar background music is perfect and you get a real feel for Kipling and his love of India. Yankee Doodle is cute, but really you'd be buying this for Rikki Tikki. Highly recommended

    I had read Rikki-Tikki-Tavi a long time ago, but never gotten around to watch Chuck Jones' animated version of the tale. It is so cute and well done! I loved Jones' interpretation of Rikki's mongoose behavior, and Nag and Nagaina were as scary as ever.

    From an animation standpoint, the human characters weren't as lively as the animals were (the parents especially came across as a bit "stiff" in their overall movement and acting), but they were nice nonetheless. But who am I to complain...perhaps budget was tight and the animation process was a bit more complicated back in the day.

    Very nice story adaptation. Go see it!!

    One of my childhood favorites...it's just way to short...but I still watch it 30+ years later, when I get the chance! Five stars...
