Product Description
Son of the Renegade was the first of a short series of westerns produced and written by John Carpenter who also starred in it. John Carpenter made one more of these low-budgeters before he began billing himself as John Forbes. From the 1940s and until he was evicted in 1994 to make room for a housing project, Carpenter ran the "Heaven on Earth" ranch for handicapped children in Glendale. Tough-looking Jack Ingram began his long show business career as a minstrel player and later reportedly toured with Mae West. He began turning up playing scruffy henchmen and assorted other B-Western villains in the mid-'30s and was later the featured heavy in Columbia serials. Ingram would go on to appear in a total of 200 Westerns and approximately 50 serials in a career that later included appearances on such television programs as The Cisco Kid and The Lone Ranger.

4 out of 5 stars This is not your father's Crimson Tide.......2006-07-29

At first, this movie seems to clone the plot of the Hollywood thriller Crimson Tide, with a touch of the Prisoner thrown in. (All crew members lose their names are reffered to by their numbers.) A subordinate offices must stop his captain from using a submarine to start a war. But imagine Hollywood having no influence on the project and the Gene Hackman character being completely insane. What if Denzel Washington was the only officer willing to stop what is happening?

The movie is more of a tension builder that an action filled die hard copy. The film asks how far would you go to start/stop a war from happening. Neither 431 (our hero) or 202 (the insane captain) pull any punches in getting what they feel must be done, done. This creates a sometimes gruesome picture, but something very unHollywood, and more realisitic than the civil debate filled Crimson Tide.

If you are a fan of the submarine genre, a good film to own.

4 out of 5 stars Definitely cool........2004-02-24

This Korean film is one of these reasons their cinema has been one to watch lately. A very gripping tale of mutiny on a secret Korean sub and the one man out who must stop the whole rest of the crew from starting a world war. No, its not "Die-hard on a submarine" as some wags would probably put it. The style is fresh and frenzied, with plenty of meat here for both art film fans and action buffs. Despite a bit of a truncated length-it easily could have been a bit longer to pull out some of the tension, it comes highly recommended from me.

4 out of 5 stars Awesome movie for navy fans.......2003-09-16

I am a bit surprised to see the movie in Chinese section since it is a Korean movie. It is filled with conspiracy and lots of suspense. Not all the facts in the movie are similar with the real situation in Korean NAVY. However, it makes you aware of the history of Korea and its position in Asia.

I might say the conspiracy is too much, but overall its a good movie to see a sub do awesome things under the sea.

This movie reminded me of Hunt for Red October.
Unlike the movie, this one is a bit more gruesome. If it is uncensored version, there are going to be couple of scenes that could be a bit gruesome.

5 out of 5 stars Great John Carpenter Western.......2006-07-24

This is one of several decent westerns John Carpenter made in the 1940s and the best one of the bunch t hat I have seen. It has all the traditional western elements in it, from the saloon to the showdown to bank robberies but does them with more panache that you would normally expect from this well worn genre. I had a good time watching it and was impressed by the quality of the clip.

5 out of 5 stars Cowboy Film.......2006-05-24

I ended up watching this movie with my dad who remembered watching it on television w hen he was a child with his dad. Funny how that stuff works out, isn't it? The film is a fun traditional cowboy western involving rough men doing rough things and then the hero comming in to save the day. The guys are more attractive than in a lot of other westerns and the movie itself is short so it ends before you get tired of it. The sound quality was better than on many other films I've seen from the 1950s.
