Customer Reviews:
ANOTHER PRECIOUS RARITY.......2007-03-16
After purchasing this DVD set,I can safely say that I've seen all of Stan and Ollie's post Hal Roach features.Including their two MGM films,Air Raid Wardens and Nothing But Trouble, and their last real doozy,Utopia.
My favourite film in this set would be The Dancing Masters.Like Jitterbugs before it,we see much more of Stan and Ollie.Plus I found this film to be even funnier than both Jitterbugs and The Big Noise. My favourite scene is the bus ride.I couldn't stop laughing at Oliver going down that rollercoaster.
Stronger than the previous Fox set.......2007-02-05
I found the films contained in this set to generally be funnier and stronger than the ones on the first volume. While it's true that L&H's career after they left Hal Roach is kind of hit and miss, it's not true that everything they did after 1940 is horrible and deserves to be dismissed out of hand without letting the viewer judge for oneself or without a modern critical re-evaluation of these films. I wish more people would realise that these films are *different* than their Hal Roach films, not inferior per se. They actually have many very funny moments and some pretty decent scripts, if one can get past the popular misconception about them being unwatchable garbage.
'The Bullfighters' (filmed in late 1944 but released in 1945) is easily the strongest of the three. Its strength is due in no small part to how they finally had gotten a sizeable amount of creative control back by this time, and how Stan wrote and directed (without credit) at least two of the scenes. It also seems like one of their Hal Roach films, and they seem far more in character than they do in some of the other Fox films. The boys are private detectives who go to Mexico in search of a woman nicknamed Larceny Nell, but after failing to arrest her, in one of the scenes Stan wrote and directed, they find themselves having to hide from Richard Muldoon, a man they sent to prison years ago. They believed Muldoon was a murderer, but it turned out that he was innocent and the real criminal confessed. Stan is able to hide his true identity because he looks exactly like Don Sebastian, a matador whose arrival in town is delayed due to troubles with his passport, but Ollie has more trouble avoiding running into Muldoon. The only real fault I could find with this film is that it ends without resolving the subplot about Larceny Nell, like that part of the plot was developed and then just dropped. This film is only an hour long, so it's not like it was anywhere near running overtime and had to be ended right then.
'The Dancing Masters' (1943) is the second-best film on here. It also helps that some of the scenes are remakes of scenes in some of their earlier films, such as the auction scene in 'Thicker Than Water' and the idea of insuring Stan so that they can collect a lot of money on his injury, which was a big part of the plot in 'The Battle of the Century.' It's hysterically funny throughout, and for once the subplot featuring a young couple doesn't really drag the story down, as it does in some of their other Fox films. This film also features a young Robert Mitchum in a minor role as one of the men who sells them the insurance policy, and the always wonderful Margaret Dumont as the mother of their friend and student Trudy. Here the boys are dancing teachers, with Stan once again in drag when he teaches his class (although unlike the other times when he dressed in drag in their films, here he's not pretending to be a woman and isn't wearing a wig). Although they're really behind on their rent and other living expenses, they're hopeful that Trudy's boyfriend Grant will come through for them when they get rich on his inventions, in particular a very potent ray gun intended for use against the Nazis. Things are complicated because not only does Trudy's father hate Stan and Ollie, he also hates Grant and is hoping Trudy will marry a young man more to his liking, Wentworth Harlan. Though this film is also very funny, I was rather disappointed by how it seemed to end rather abruptly, with not a lot of resolution to most of the plotlines.
'A-Haunting We Will Go' (1942) is the weakest film on here. Stan and Ollie have just been thrown out of jail and are ordered to leave town very soon, or else, and think they've found an easy way out when they see a newspaper advertisement for someone to travel to Dayton, Ohio, all expenses paid. They run terrified when they find out this means travelling with a coffin with a corpse (so they think) inside, but go back and say they'll do it when they see a cop. Little do they know that they've just gotten mixed up with a bunch of gangsters and con men, nor that their coffin gets mixed up with a coffin to be used by Dante the Magician in his upcoming show. On the train to Dayton, they get swindled some more, but Dante comes to their rescue and befriends them, asking them to assist in his upcoming show. The gangsters of course discover they've gotten the wrong coffin, and go to Dayton to confront them and to try to get their living cohort out of that coffin before their criminal plan is discovered. This film just doesn't have a lot of flavor in it, and the boys seem more like supporting characters than the leading comedians at times. It's also not consistently funny, though there are some very funny scenes in it. As with other of their weaker Fox films, they just seem out of character, indistinguishable from any other comedians, and worse yet not only aware of their stupidity but also the brunt of a bunch of jokes and comments from other characters about how stupid they are. They're supposed to be dumb, but in a sweet endearing way, like two overgrown little boys, not constantly being made fun of and swindled by nearly everyone in their path on account of it.
Extras include audio commentaries, trailers, their 1943 Technicolor short 'Tree in a Test Tube' (which is available on several other releases), a short interview with Ollie on the 1950s program 'A Ship's Reporter,' a mini-documentary on the boys' years at Fox, footage of Fox Movietone News, and two silent 1932 newsreels featuring their visit to England. These two newsreels are also available on the Kino release of 'The Flying Deuces,' but here I found them much more enjoyable and lively because they actually had a soundtrack, instead of being pure silence. While this isn't a release I'd recommend to new or casual fans, overall the films are funnier and stronger than the ones on the previous volume.
A WORTHWHILE COLLECTION.......2007-01-15
LAUREL & HARDY WERE THE GRANDEST OF ALL COMEDYTEAMS THROUGHOUT THE 1930'S.
AND ALTHOUGH THEIR WORK ON THESE LATER FILMS PALE IN COMPARISON TOO THE WORK THEY DID SEVERAL YEARS EARLIER,IT IS OF INTEREST TO ANY FAN OF THEIRS
TO HAVE THIS COLLECTION ALONG WITH THE FIRST VOLUME AS A GENTLE REMINDER
THAT BEFORE ABBOTT & COSTELLO OR EVEN MARTIN & LEWIS CAME ALONG,STAN &
OLLIE MADE THE WHOLE WORLD LAUGH.ALL SIX OF THESE LATER MOVIES CAPTURE THE
EMBODIEMENT OF SIXTEEN YEARS IN MAKING FILM COMEDIES AT THE HAL ROACH STU-
DIOS.A LOT OF FAMILIAR ROUTINES ARE CRAMMED INTO THESE LATER TWENTIETH
CENTURY FOX FILMS AND WE GET A LITTLE TASTE OF WHAT CAME BEFORE.EVEN IF YOU ARE NOT A FAN I BELIEVE THAT THESE FILMS HAVE MORE THAN COMEDY APPEAL
JUST LIKE ANY OLD FILM WE HAVE A CHANCE TO REVISIT ANOTHER PLACE IN TIME.
Laural And Hardy Collection Volume 2.......2007-01-11
Excellant Quality and very fast safe & secure service, that i can recommend to anyone.
Stan & Ollie always Great.......2007-01-03
These may not be their best movies; but as a collector, I had to have this. I was pleasantly surprised. The movies hold up and the extras were great. If someone could only fing 'The Rogue Song' my collection would be complete.

This cluster of five music videos provides a capsule history of New Edition, originally a 1980s R&B-bubblegum phenomenon created by producer-songwriter Maurice Starr, who later went on to create New Kids on the Block. A boyish Bobby Brown and fellow Boston teens Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins, Ronnie DeVoe, and Ralph Tresvant--some of whom went on to become major solo stars--can all be seen here in smartly crafted, early videos for such Starr-penned hits as "Cool It Now" and "Mr. Telephone Man." (The latter finds the boys pleading with two confused repairmen because they can't call their girls.) Remaining videos reflect changes in New Edition: Johnny Gill replaces Brown on "If It Isn't Love," which focuses on sweaty rehearsals, and "Can You Stand the Rain," perhaps NE's first manly ballad. The suave "I'm Still in Love with You," possibly set in Venice, was shot during a 1996 reunion of original members plus Gill. --Tom Keogh

Hardly The Best of New Edition: The DVD Collection.......2007-05-25
You've got to be kidding me with this. Five count em five videos.. Granted all five are fantastic, but let's say you're a new comer to New Edition and this is what you got.. Wow what a disservice to the group. This DVD could of been great. You take 2 videos from there debut album 2 or 3 from the 2nd and so on.. Oh but wait, how about some videos of Bobby Brown, BBD, Ralph Tresvant, & Johnny Gill. New Edition is so much more than what this DVD has to offer. I have to say it's a shame that this thing is even out because it shows the lack of respect that this group deserves.. Just my 2cents...
5 VIDEOS? I thought this was supposed 2 b a collection!!!! .......2007-03-04
I give 5 stars to NEW EDITION and the videos themselves but come on! For a fan,the DVD is a HUGE disappointment. 5 five minute videos...are they serious? When a group with 12+ videos from their 7 album, 20 year career get a 25 minute DVD that's called a "collection" it's a joke! Not even Candy Girl(their FIRST video & hit)was important enough to make the cut? If the makers of the 20th Century Masters series on DVD are truly interested in honoring these artists, they should try to come a lot closer to a complete video history than this. For fans of a group as under-rated as New Edition, these videos plus the classic footage of the more rarely seen videos would make it a DVD to be cherished. This one is just a thrown together, incomplete version and does not even come close! It get's 2 stars: 1 star for the thought, 1 star for us to wish on for more!
Not for the fact.......2006-02-15
That i hated it. Because obviously i'm a New Edition fan, but come on. There only five videos on this one. They are good and everything, but there should be in my eyes at least 9 or 10 more NE videos in this. To be considered really the best of New Edition.
So if someone is listening and knows what's up please fix this. Not a bad buy, but could be a LOT better.
Don't Do It!!.......2006-02-11
I wouldn't purchase this due to the fact that they left out some of thier other great videos. Why leave out Count Me Out, the number 1 debut Candy Girl, NE Heartbreak, Popcorn Love, Is This The End, Crucial, My Secret (feat. Magic Johnson), Hit Me Off, She Gives Me A Bang, and You're Not My Kind of Girl??? Correction to one of the reviewers comments (A viewer), A Little Bit of Love (Is All it Takes) was never made into a video, but that does not excuse 20th century from leaving out the good videos mentioned. I'm sure glad I did'nt purchase this! Just Don't It!
New Edition 20 Century Masters.......2005-08-17
It good I was hopeing that it had all of new edition hits on the dvd. Not just five songs.

Great But Too Short!!.......2007-02-24
My wife and I have been big fans of Toby Keith since we heard "Beer For My Horses" on a country compilation cd. This dvd is a welcome addition to our Toby Keith collection. There are only five videos on this dvd:
"Should've Been A Cowboy","He Ain't Worth Missing","A Little Less Talk And A Little More Action","Who's That Man" and "Dream Walkin'".
Although it is short in content the videos are all great with excellent sound and vision quality. I guess this will have to do until a full concert dvd of Toby Keith becomes available.
re: Tody in Doby.......2004-07-16
Well lets see, I recently purchased a DVD player having worn videos down to their last magnetic fiber. Toby Keith was the first musician I went out to purchase. I have his CD's on in my fabulous gold porche all day while I drive and twirl my curly locks on the freeway. This is real stomping, put your foot down, slap you lips and cords into gear music. Fernominal. Depending on which route I take to Moms I usually get through the first song and then my stomach gets the better of me and I rush in for homemade burgers and potato salad. This DVD has a similar effect because I take it everywhere with me. Mom lets me play it at hers while she's in the garage making homemade icecream but I have to turn it off when we are having dinner as its been a family tradition to eat at the table and not too indulge in TV dinners. I love this guy!!! If I was female I would love him in a more rude way but I'm not and I have the cords to prove it and the receding hairline. Gee, maybe I should get a hat like his to cover my shiny crown. Still, my baseball cap should surfice for the time being. Line dancing is what you need to adopt when you buy this. Do a quick line before you hit the road and you are on your way to country heaven.
Fabulous...
luv him.......2004-06-21
I am so(...) in love with Toby!!! I'm so completely obsessed with him. I'd give anything to be with him. Well, about the dvd. Its great!!! Whos that man will kill you. You just wanna hold him so he wont be sad. And every time he closes his eyes i melt. He is so sexy in these videos you'll go crazy knowing you cant have him. Not to mention him having the sexiest voice ever. I recommend this dvd to any true Toby lover!!
Caution!.......2004-03-31
Amazon does not tell you that this DVD "Best of" collection only has 5 songs/videos on it. If you are looking for Toby's current hits, you will be greatly disappointed. And, while Amazon will allow you to return it, if unopened, the shipping charges each way will not be refunded. $6 worth of to and from shipping charges for a $7.99 DVD isn't worth the effort. Save your money, and hope that Toby releases a real "collection" someday.

Asia rulz but this video collection is mainly for die-hard Asia fans.......2006-08-25
I'm a die-hard Asia fan that's why I bought this DVD. Asia with the original, early-mid 80's line up of Whetton, Palmer, Downes and Howe only had three key albums to their credit: Asia, Alpha and Astra, and though the first two were major hits and the third (Astra) flopped, hard-core Asia fans loved all three with equal zeal. Then & Now had some previously unreleased good tracks as well.
While this video collection of only 5 of their hits (Heat Of The Moment, Only Time Will Tell, Wildest Dreams, Don't Cry, and The Smile Has Left Your Eyes) leaves a lot to be desired for, you may want to buy it if you're also an Asia fan.
If you're looking for another comparable collection of Asia videos, you should also check out "The Ultimate Collection". The main difference is that TUC contains live versions of most of their major hits from concerts in Moscow, England and USA, while this DVD contains the studio videos of just these 5 songs. TUC is a 3-disc collection while this is a single disc. If you want to see Asia live in action then I would definitely recommend buying TUC instead, but if you're a die-hard Asia fan like me who has all of Asia's main stuff then you might want to buy this too.
I feel like I was in Jr. high again.......2006-03-23
This DVD brought back some very good memories. I thought for its time the music and videos stood out. For me the music is still the best part of it all. The only sad thing is when you look at it, you have to wonder how huge they would have been had they just stayed together.
ASIA TEN STARS, BUT THIS DVD ONLY THREE!.......2005-12-11
The poeple who makes this DVD doesn't know about ASIA. The GO video (from ASTRA album) isn't included in this DVD. You have only 5 of the 6 studio videos that ASIA makes in the Wetton era. The title must be "ASIA: THE INCOMPLETE DVD COLLECTION". Why this important video is missing? Only the stupid person of Geffen records who makes this video knows the answer...
ASIA IS THE BEST BAND IN THE WORLD !!!.......2004-04-28
I waited for this to D.V.D. to come out, for months. This disc includes 5 music videos from the band "Asia". Asia has been around for over 20 years now, and they get better and better with each passing year. Amazon hasn't gotten around to creating an image for this title yet on their search page. It was hard to find this release. I had to go buy the ASIN number, and search through a bunch of possibilities. This D.V.D. came out on April 20th, 2004. Amazon has it for only $7.98. The picture quality is good. The 5 songs that are on this disc are "Heat of the Moment", "Only Time Will Tell", "Wildest Dreams", "Don't Cry", and the last one is "The Smile Has Left Your Eyes". The cover of this D.V.D., has a black and white photo of the 4 original band members. I am a die-hard Asia fan, ever since the release of their first album. I love them. They are incredible. Buy this D.V.D. You won't be disappointed.

It's a Styx video compilation that has neither the ultra-rare "Haven't We Been Here Before" nor the ultra-hilarious "Heavy Metal Poisioning".
I. Don't. THINK. So.
Classic Styx on Video.......2006-10-17
These videos are of varying quality, and reflect various periods in the history of what many consider the Classic Styx era. (That is, when their central vocalist/songwriter, Dennis DeYoung, was still in the group)
"Come Sail Away" is perhaps the poorest quality of this entire group of videos, but it is interesting to see 1977 era Styx performing what is considered their signature song.
"Boat on the River" is a fun treat. Again, not the best of quality and all these "performance" videos are lip synched to the original recordings.
"Too Much Time on My Hands" was one of the few production type videos Styx ever did, meaning it had parts where the guys were not just onstage performing the song. It is actually a humorous video and lots of little silly bits in it.
"Best of Times" and "Mr. Roboto" were huge hits for Styx. Both DeYoung compositions which featured him heavily. Roboto, of course, is an early MTV classic video. Manic and totally out there visually, musically and lyrically.
"Blue Collar Man" is straight ahead onstage action.
If you are a fan of Styx. This one is a must-have.
A Great Collection of Early Styx Videos.......2006-02-10
Back in the late 70s to early 80s, Styx was one of the most popular rock and roll bands of the time, routinely selling out arenas all across the country. This DVD provides a glimpse back into the heyday of this legendary band with these great early videos.
There are six videos on this DVD: "Blue Collar Man", "Come Sail Away", "Too Much Time on my Hands", "The Best of Times", "Boat on the River", and "Mr. Roboto". Most of these are performance videos, taped during an actual concert. "Too Much Time on my Hands" is a compilation video, containing both concert footage and more traditional-style video filming. I was disappointed that "Come Sail Away" was edited as much as it was. Most of the insturmental parts were deleted. "Mr. Roboto" showed very little footage of the band itself. However, it was a very popular video shown during the early days of MTV. It also lead to Tommy Shaw's departure from the band and the beginning of a lenghtly hiatus for the group. They did not re-emerge on the music scene until 1990 with "Edge of the Century", still minus Tommy Shaw. I thought "Boat on the River" was very good, with Tommy playing the mandolin and Dennis on accordion.
I wish this DVD would have contained a few more videos, such as "Show Me The Way" and Tommy's lost "Haven't We Been Here Before", which was only rarely seen on late-night television. None of these videos features the amount of choreography and acting as today's music videos do, but they are still very good, they sound well in stereo, and they give the viewer a look back at some of Styx' more well-known songs.
I highly recommend this great DVD. It is a must for Styx fans. We can only hope that Universal will put out a follow-up disc that contains more great classic songs. Until then, watch this DVD and enjoy a look back to the glory days of a supergroup.
Styx Music Videos You've Never Seen Before........2004-05-18
Despite Amazon not having the full title or description listed as of yet for some odd reason, this is THE BEST OF STYX: THE DVD COLLECTION. It's collection of Six music videos which are:
1). "Blue Collar Man (Long Nights)"
2). "Come Sail Away"
3). "Too Much Time On My Hands"
4). "The Best Of Times"
5). "Boat On The River"
6). "Mr. Roboto"
First of all, Universal should have released STYX's entire music video collection on one DVD, not this small DVD EP collection. Not from a band that's been around for over 30 years and has over 20 music videos, many of which have never even aired in the United States. The first video, "Blue Collar Man (Long Nights)" is a big disappointment since this video is straight from the "Caught In The Act" video that was released in 1984. Many fans have this video already so I have no idea why Universal decided to release this again, especially since there's vintage music video for this song from 1978 that has rarely been seen by anyone. Fortunately, things get much better with the rest of the videos. Time warp to 1977 and the next video "Come Sail Away" is a great vintage music video. You may have seen brief excerpts of this video when VH-1 aired STYX: Behind the Music. One thing you'll notice is how much facial hair Dennis has. Images of this video are pretty clear, but this video is very old, so it's not going to be like any movie DVD you may have.
The third ("Too Much Time On My Hands") and fourth ("The Best Of Times") videos, were also made even before there was an MTV, however the image quality of these two videos are superb, even better than satellite or digital cable offers. The third is video is probably one of my favorites since actually succeeds in being funny for the right reasons. It is part concept and performance video while the next video is mostly a performance video. All of music videos for the album "Paradise Theater" were shot in one day as were the first three music videos for the "Kilroy Was Here" album.
The next video for "Boat On The River" is extremely rare, so I was thrilled when was included in this collection. It's another vintage video from 1979 that has Dennis playing his accordion and Tommy with his pint size mandolin guitar. The video reminds me how the band plays performs this song now live on stage "unplugged". Best of all on these two vintage videos, is all the great fashions the band had back-in-the-day. All of these vintage music videos (from the '70s) never aired MTV.
The last video is the popular "Mr. Roboto" music video. A well done video for its day, it was played very often in MTV early days. The image quality of this video looks to be a bit fuzzier than some older MTV videos and there's a slight sound skip at the very end of the video that wasn't on this music video when it was on MTV.
All of the music videos have great stereo sound. After watching this DVD a few times, you'll probably will also want to get Styx's latest double CD compilation called - "Come Sail Away: The Styx Anthology" for when your not near your television. Universal has said that if this STYX DVD music video collection sells well enough that they will release another volume of STYX music videos and since this collection represents less than one quarter of all of their videos let hope the next volume is much larger. Besides the seven performance, pre-MTV, vintage music videos from the 1970's, there's another rare concept music video for "Haven't We Been Here Before" that has only aired once or twice on late night TV over twenty years ago. Hopefully, this DVD is just a small preview and the next STYX DVD collection will include some of these other videos next time, but for this price you can't go wrong with getting this music video collection.

Pure Blues---All MTV or VHS Videos.......2007-04-08
I saw Robert one week ago today, opening for Sir Eric Clapton. I own several of his CDs and this DVD. At the concert, people were talking and waiting for Clapton for the first couple of songs. Before his set was over, all were in to his fabulous vocals and guitar licks. He got two standing ovations before he finished and the crowd shouted out for more.
To end the evening, Clapton brought Robert out to close the show, singing the Robert Johnson tune (and a Clapton signature song) Crossroads.
No doubt, the folks who weren't aware of Mr. Cray's work were shopping for his recordings all this week.
A ROBERT CRAY TIME CAPSULE.......2006-11-26
Having recently seen Robert Cray open for Eric Clapton on his latest tour (October 10 at Verizon Center in D.C.), I was wishing that I could obtain some of his early videos on DVD. While searching through the list of the 20th Century Masters DVDs (an excellent companion to the CD line under the same moniker), I found that his videos were, in fact, available. This nice priced disc includes 6 songs - 3 from 1986's Strong Persuader (Smoking Gun, Right Next Door, and Nothin' But A Woman), 2 from 1988's Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark (the title track and Acting This Way), and one from 1990's Midnight Stroll (Forecast [Calls For Pain]). Having only seen the first 2 videos from back in the day when MTV actually stood for MUSIC Television, I was happy to finally get a chance to view the other songs. A must have for all Robert Cray fans.
looking for a live concert whole show.......2006-11-09
This is a collection of music videos, mtv style; with cartoons and things highlighting the themes of some songs; not the performances I hoped for. I personally don't really like to watch "music videos" of this sort, although people who do will probably like this DVD.
Robert Cray's vocals and guitar are clear and excellent.
Hope Robert releases a full concert video, perhaps from his current tour opening for Clapton.
Check out his performance of "Time Makes Two" on the Clapton Crossroads Festival DVD. This is more like what I believe Cray fans are looking for. What I enjoy in music video is seeing the actual music performed, with lots of clear, longer shots of the musicians performing their craft. When such a video is an actual full concert it can be enjoyed almost as much as being there, if it is a quality production of sound and video, and without the video jumping too quickly from shot to shot.
When full concerts are recorded uncut, you get the flow of the song selection and the the feel of the variation between faster and slower numbers and the effect the show was designed to have on the audience. Single selections can be excellent, but putting them in the actual concert context really adds something.

It's easy to appreciate Donna Summer all over again while watching these vintage music videos. "She Works Hard for the Money" features her least interesting vocal, though the video remains an uncompromising, tough look at the dreary lot of women in the menial workforce. The strange "Unconditional Love" sets the Jamaican-flavored song within an oppressive classroom, where a dowdy Summer teaches a bunch of blonde brats and ultimately liberates them with thoughts of freedom and respect. "There Goes My Baby" begins with a series of blackouts outlining a domestic quarrel, but the appeal here is Summer's ringing, transfixing vocal. "This Time I Know It's for Real" and "Love's About to Change My Heart" go right to the heart of Summers' unique expressiveness on dance tracks. These are hugely stirring ballads set against a disco drive and great fun to watch as Summers, looking quite smashing, becomes a true pop siren. --Tom Keogh

Incomplete cash in compilation.......2007-06-26
Donna Summer is a musical legend who has transcended trends and whose career has outlasted many of her contempories. This is a short dvd compilation of some of her 'arguably' better videos from the 80's, but its so sad that an artist of her stature has yet to receive the full dvd career retrospective treatment encompassing her groundbreaking 70's work (yes there are clips availble) ALL her 80's and 90's music videos and more. In 1994 a vhs collection of videos (also incomplete) entitled Endless Summer was released and at least it was a half hearted attempt to capture some of her video work on one collection. This is only for the non fans who want a cheap collection of 5 videos.
Warning!!!.......2006-05-18
DO NOT BUY THIS DVD!
I bought it expecting about 20 of Summers Best. What I got was 5 TV-Videos of which only 1 qualified - "This time I know its for real".
I can understand the situation of "The Industry", but in this case, they ask for it. Paying 26$ handling and toll....
This is a rip off - no more no less!
Buy something else and be sure to check the titles - I didnt!

RE-RELEASE THE CLASSIC 'HOT SUMMER NIGHT' PERFORMANCE!!!.......2005-10-13
I agree with the fellow reviewers on this page. I wouldnt waste your time with this mediocre releasing...Universal or Donna's label should re-release a newly mastered version of the concert from 1983 'A HOT SUMMER NIGHT' which aired on US TV and BBC in the UK. What a classic show..i also owned the video and i feel considering her great talent and many of her re-releasings on CD (Greatest hits etc), they should release a DVD of that great show...
Great!.......2005-08-13
A very good, low budget collection of 5 videos of Donna Summer.
The quality is very good and the videos here take one back memory lane; She works hard, Unconditional love (with that shiny dress), There goes my baby, This time, and Loves about to change...
I hope more Summer videos are put on DVD, and here's hoping we get more videos now Summer is reviving her recording career!!!
I got your love Donna!
One hot Summer!.......2005-06-13
This DVD is rather brief: 5 videos by Donna Summer, but well worth the low price you pay for it. All 5 singles cracked the Billboard 100, with `She works hard for the money' hitting no.3, and `This time I know it's for real' hitting no.7 and both certified Gold.
First up is `She works hard for the money' which was nominated for an American music award for best video (lost out to Michael Jackson). The storyline features a harassed working mother of two, and features a scene where she gets pinched on the butt by Bruce Sudano (Donna's husband). The climax is the fab dance scene on the streets with a growing crowd of onlookers gawking at the unexpected sight of Donna Summer dancing up on a balcony. One of her best videos.
Next up is `Unconditional love' which was a UK top20 hit. The video was shot in London and features Donna as a dowdy school teacher who transforms to a big haired glamour girl who then takes the entire school for a romp in the playground. The UK group Musical Youth also featured in it.
`There goes my baby' begins with a domestic tiff between a couple (Donna and Bruce Sudano). Then hubby goes off to war and a pencil thin Donna spends the rest of the video anxiously awaiting news from him. Very good acting from Donna.
`This time I know it's for real' (a no.3 UK hit) is a very cheery, delightful video with a bunch of guys doing the running man (a hot dance craze back then) all around the world and a stunning looking Donna featured in an array of hats.
The last video, and my favourite of the lot is `Love's about to change my heart' (a UK top 20 hit). It is Donna's most joyous, relaxed video, with Donna hamming it up for the camera, and dancing freely.
I look forward to more compilations of Donna's work put on DVD; More videos (`The wanderer', `Romeo', `Love is in control', `The woman in me', `State of Independence', `Supernatural love', `Dinner with Gershwin', `All systems go', `When love takes over you', `Melody of love', `Whenever there is love', and `My prayer for you' for example..), and how about her 1980 TV special (that featured Twiggy and Robert Guilliame), and numerous other magical clips from the 70s.

Too Short.......2005-12-16
Just received this DVD, haven't even watched it. There are only four (4) vids on the DVD - kinda short. I am a little disappointed with this. I enjoy Dennis's music & was expecting a few more choices.
Must Have Video Collection.......2005-06-30
Dennis DeYoung became a reluctant solo artist in 1984, after the break-up of his band, Styx.
These videos reflect songs from his three solo albums from the 1980's. Besides having a stellar, one-of-a-kind voice, Dennis proved he was very ready for his close-up on video.
The standout is "Desert Moon", which was a top ten single and one of the most popular videos on MTV in 1984. It mirrors the reflective, you-can't-go-home-again theme of the song. And, of course, there is the famous red Mustang.
"Don't Wait For Heroes" has some of the trademark wacky humor of DeYoung, plus an interesting story and it is just a great song on its own.
"Call Me" is a moody, atmospheric set piece using the paintings of American artist Edward Hopper as inspiration for its theme of loneliness and its muted tones of red and green. Again, a great, soulful Dennis DeYoung song.
"Boomchild" is a wild, effects-filled look at the whole Baby Boom generation. It is chock full of boomer references and it is fun just to watch and pick them all out. As clever a video as was ever on MTV/VH1. Again, Dennis looks great, and the song is filled with themes that resonate today. I do not think there has been a better summation of the whole boomer experience than the lyrics in this song.
A standout video collection. A must-have if you are any kind of Classic Styx fan or enjoy the work of Dennis DeYoung.
Styx's leader at his solo best.......2005-06-30
Here's the once-and-always Voice of Styx in full solo mode. There are four music videos in this compilation.
1) "Desert Moon" - In 1984, Dennis DeYoung suddenly found himself a "reluctant solo artist," and set about recording his first album as a single. From that record comes the mesmerizing video for "Desert Moon" (also a Top 10 single) that tells the loosely-autobiographical story of a big-time rock star that comes home for a visit and the memories that flood back to him. Also from that album comes...
2) "Don't Wait for Heroes" - The lyrics to this song contain one of the DeYoung mantras, which is, "Winners are losers who got up and gave it just one more try."
3) "Call Me" - This is an atmospheric piece with Dennis as a piano man in a samll cafe. Beautifully shot.
4) "Boomchild" - Here's a nostalgic look back at the life of the baby boomer generation. An interesting-looking video, teeming with special effects. It keeps your eyes busy.
The DVD transfers look great and the sound is CD-quality. The oldest clip is 21 years old, and the newest is 16, but they look and sound like they were shot yesterday.
For fans of Dennis DeYoung or the real Styx (NOT the laughable cover version on tour these days), this is a great look back at the successful solo career of the man who was the architect, writer and voice of some of America's best rock anthems and ballads.

More of Vanessa Williams video's........2007-03-11
I've recently purchased this dvd. It's really nice to go back in time and remember what I was doing when I first heard the "Right Stuff" by Vanessa Williams. Althou there's only 5 of her videos, wishing to see more from a Great Diva in the future!
This DVD is just incomplete.......2005-07-13
The 20th Century Masters collection has now invaded the DVD scene! This collection is just too brief to show Vanessa musical career while under WIng Records then turned into Mercury Records. But the videos included in this set does show some of Williams most popular singles such as her first hit "The Right Stuff" and her international hit "Save The Best For Last." What I do not understand is why did Universal not at least include "Colors of the Wind" on the DVD?
A Good Start.......2005-04-09
It is a great start. It is unfortunate that only a few of Vanessa's videos are on this collection and there are absolutely no interviews or BTS footage whatsoever! Vanessa is back on the music scene now so hopefully she will release a compilation that includes ALL of her videos and give her fans some rare live stuff too. I had the chance to see her in concert this past December and she is phenomenal on stage!! I took my teenage daughter along and she bacame an instant 'V' fan!!
Good Videos... but incomplete reflections.......2005-03-10
For Universal, they've really been quite able to capitalize on the feeling of their 20th Century masters collection so much with the CD's, but now the feel of the DVD's are quite ironic on the downside. Considering, most of them do overlook great videos, and only offer the value within the acrtual bbudget price. That has happened with so many acts like Patti LaBelle, Styx, Olivia Newton-John, and the former Miss America, Vanessa Williams. Yet for Vanessa, her music has always find a way to bring beauty and elegance to the mainstream, but for a decent collection of her music videos, that just hasn't happened here.
20th Century Masters: Vanessa Williams is a DVD that only features five of her soulful music videos from her career, with a lot of beauty in her voice. The videos range mostly from her first 2 records, The Right Stuff and The Comfort Zone with videos for The Sweetest Days, the #1 ballad Save The Best For Last, Dreamin', and Runnin' Back To You. The videos are great and dynamic, but there are just too few tracks here as a far cry from the 20th Century Masters album. The DVD overshadows quite a lot of music videos includng the videos for Happiness, Colors Of The Wind, The Look from The Right Stuff, The Way That You Love, and other great songs.
While Vanessa Williams fans might be a bit dissapointed in this DVD collection, it is a very decent music video collection but could've been improved quite a bit. This is a big problem for the 20th Century Masters DVD edition. Still, it is a good price for die hard Vanessa Williams fans but others may just want to buy the CD instead of the DVD. This one might want to be saved for last, until a better collection of her videos comes out.
