Ohh Pancho....Ohh Cisco.......2007-05-16
It lacks Leo Carrillo as Pancho, but Gilbert Roland is excellent as Cisco.
Remembering Cisco.......2007-03-28
After viewing the Cisco Kid collection it was just like I remember Gilbert Roland. The clarity is good and the audio is very clear.
I would recommend this collection to anyone who likes a good western.
Robin Hood of the Old West.......2007-03-24
This set contains all the Cisco Kid films starring Gilbert Roland. Picture (and sound) quality is good, and the adventures - though slow-paced compared with modern story-telling - are good fun.
This Cisco Kid, unlike the Cisco Kid of the TV series, leads a band of outlaws - seeking out corrupt officials, stealing their ill-gotten gains and re-distributing them back to the poor. At this level, the storylines are all very similar.
Cisco is, of course, irresistable to women. They instantly tell him all their husband's/brother's guilty secrets - thus enabling him to rob them blind. And he hands out necklaces (from what must be a vast stockpile) to those he kisses.
He's got a thing about sticking lighted cigarettes behind his ear while he gets on with something else. Perhaps it looked impressive to audiences of 60 years ago. Today it just looks stupid.
And there's lots of singing - girls singing in bars, beggars singing in the streets, the outlaw band singing around the campfire.
Each film lasts just over the hour. Sit down - relax - let the stories take their own time to unroll, and you'll enjoy these films.
"The Cisco Kid Western Collection (1946-1947) ... Gilbert Roland ... VCI Home Video (2007)".......2007-02-17
VCI Entertainment and Monogram Pictures presents "Gilbert Roland:Cisco Kid Western Collection" (1946-1947) (Dolby digitally remastered)...here's adventure, here's romance, here's O'Henry's famous Robin Hood of the Old West...the Cisco Kid featuring Gilbert Roland as Cisco --- many fans believe he was the best of the Cisco Kids on the big screen --- relive those thrilling days from the early '40s and '50s when romance and drama took us down the dusty trails and the plains to exciting adventures.
BIOS:
1. Gilbert Roland (aka: Luis Antonio Dmaso de Alonso)
Birth Date: 12/11/1905 - Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico
Died: 5/15/1994 - Beverly Hills, California (cancer)
Special footnote, actor Gilbert Roland first major role was as one of Clara Bow's love interests in the collegiate comedy "The Plastic Age" (1925). In 1927, he played Armand in Camille opposite Norma Talmadge, with whom he was romantically linked. He went to star opposite Talmadge in several more films but when sound ended her career, Roland's voice was well suited for the new medium and his career continued uninterrupted. He starred in several Spanish language adaptations of American films and continued as a romantic lead ... Beginning in the 1940s, Roland's roles became smaller but critics began to take notice of his acting and he was praised for his supporting roles in John Huston's "We Were Strangers" (1949), "The Bad and the Beautiful" (1952), and "Cheyenne Autumn" (1964). He also appeared in a series of films in the mid 40s as the popular character "The Cisco Kid." Catholic viewers probably know him best as Hugo, the agnostic (and totally fictional) friend of the three shepherd children in "The Miracle of Our Lady of Fatima", which is based on the apparitions of Our Lady of Fatima in 1917. His last appearance was in the 1982 western movie Barbarosa ... Roland died of cancer in 1994 at the age of 88. Roland was nominated twice for a Golden Globe Award, for his roles in "The Bad and the Beautiful" (1952) and "Cheyenne Autumn" (1964) ... (From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)

Here's Adventure! Here's Romance!.......2006-08-27
Here's Adventure! Here's Romance! Here's O'Henry's Robin Hood of the Old West! And in COLOR, too, as it was one of the first TV series shot in color.
We all loved the Cisco Kid! And I loved him again in these episodes with him and Pancho from the old TV series killing bad guys and eyeing the ladies. They did their own stunts. They actually hit what they were shooting at. And they had to reload their guns. And they didn't mind a using guerrilla tactics to get the drop on a bad guy.
Sure the scripts are mostly formula, but the cowboy is the hero and the bad guys are bad. Lots of fun! You'll see a few old stars drop in for a role -- like an uncredited Hopalong Cassidy (William Boyd) and Lois Lane (Noel Neill) among others.
Never mind that Diablo is at least 5 different horses, sometimes changing spots three or four times in a episode, it really is Duncan Renaldo riding him. And it really is Leo Carrillo at 70 years old riding Loco.
Enjoy!
The Proctors, Lincoln , Troy and State Theatres show the Cisco Kid in a double- feature The cause of childhood boredom .......2006-05-17
The 'Cisco Kid' movies with their endless repetitive adventures signify to me a child's learning the meaning of boredom. The Cisco Kid' was never the main - feature but rather the second-half of the double- bill. One wanted it to end but it went on and on and on. Cisco and Pancho encountering whatever bad guys they encountered, shooting and riding and going on as if they were Hispanic versions of Hopalong Cassidy or Lash Larue. 'When will it end?' and 'When will it end'?
Total fluff.

A whole lot of fun.......2006-07-31
I am not someone who remembers the Cisco Kid from my childhood years because it came out way before I was born. But when I saw Cisco kid for my first time, at age 21, I thought it was great. Yes, it is dated. But the fact that it is dated just makes it more distinct and unique from the shows that surround us today. The show is a lot of fun, no matter what your age, and is worth the price.
Ditto the first reviewer, except...........2004-10-23
I remember vividly the TV show that started in the movies in the 1940s. I believe Gilbert Roland played Cisco in most of those but Duncan Reynaldo took over later and was Cisco on TV as well. I am going to wait a bit to buy, but I am only checking this out for one reason. The repetitious use of the music on the show in conjunction with the great scenery touches a cord with me. I wish I knew where it was on a CD because it touched me the same way as a kid. It is not so hard to believe somebody might like the theme from, say, "Gunsmoke" or "The Rifleman" from back when; that's easy. The background music on these shows apparently have no name. Over the years, I've wished and wished I could get those bits of music from "The Cisco Kid"; they conjure up images that bring a melancholic authenticity to so-so scripts and fantasy. Soon they'll be mine.
Television's First Color Series.......2004-04-14
Wow!!! Here are 12 of the first 13 episodes from season 1 of "The Cisco Kid" that were broadcast between September and November of 1950. According to a number of accounts, "The Cisco Kid" was the first television series filmed in color, though color television sets would not make their "mass-market" debut until the late 1950s (another Western, "Bonanza," debuting in 1959, was filmed in color to help promote the sales of color television sets). The producers of the series correctly assumed that filming in color would extend the show's longer term syndication runs. As to the color quality of the prints used for these episodes . . . yes, the color has that "washed out" look, but nowhere near as bad as I had expected. In fact, for a number of the episodes, the color is quite good and the prints are relatively defect-free, though the transfers are certainly not modern "high definition" quality.
As to the shows themselves, the 1950s saw a huge number of Westerns on television . . . basically, shorter versions of the B-Westerns of the 1930s and 1940s. For me, I find that most of the plots of these shows are interchangeable . . . episodes for "The Cisco Kid," with minor changes, could easily be adapted to the similar series "The Lone Ranger" and other Westerns of the era. What makes "The Cisco Kid" stand out is the casting of its two stars, Duncan Renaldo as "Cisco" and Leo Carrillo as his trusty sidekick "Pancho." The actors bring a great sense of play to their roles and their interaction with each other is terrific, making the show a standout. Forget about the plots; the duo of "Cisco" and "Pancho" is one of the most memorable in the Western genre.
There are no extras on this two-disc budget release from the Platinum Disc Corporation but that's OK . . . these episodes are highly watchable and enjoyable. The only negatives are a musical score that's repeated many times over in each episode and Platinum's logo which appears from time-to-time in the bottom right corner, but these are minor distractions and really don't detract too much from the overall viewing experience.
The episodes included in the set are as follows:
Disc 1
Boomerang (Episode 1)
Medicine Flats (Episode 8)
Railroad Land Rush (Episode 9)
Big Switch (Episode 4)
Convict Story (Episode 5)
Oil Land (Episode 6)
Disc 2
Counterfeit Money (Episode 2)
Cattle Rustling (Episode 3; also called "Rustling")
The Will (Episode 10)
Cattle Quarantine (Episode 11)
Renegade Son (Episode 12)
False Marriage (episode 13)

Renaldo was in his '60s and Carillo in his '70s when they appeared at the "Firemen's Rodeo" in St. Louis during the '50s ~ my Grandmother and Great Aunt took me to see them, and I believe both of them had a crush on the two actors (Renaldo and Carrillo) came galloping out into the center of the arena, every kid in attendance was in awe, as I was and when the show was over, I rode my imaginary horse home.

The Robin Hood of the West,"The CISCO Kid" comes to DVD!.......2002-10-28
Of all the Western heroes in the 1940's and 1950's the "Cisco Kid" (Duncan Renaldo) and his sidekick Poncho (Leo Carrillo)were the most loved and easily recognized. They were the first internationally accepted western stars.
Now through VCI Entertainment we have 3 great samples of "The Kid". The first installment a 1945 movie, "South of the Rio Grande" (Standard Format / Black & White - digitally remastered, excellent quality) is about the daring duo go to the aide of a rancher friend to thwart a terrorizing dictator. The second movie (1950), "The Girl from San Lorenzo" (also a Standard Format/ Black & White - not digitally remastered, fair quality) - has Cisco & Poncho tracking down a criminal gang which has been robbing stagecoaches disguised as them. (Cisco & Poncho) The third film is from "The Cisco Kid" tv show of the 1950's (Standard Format / in Color - not digitally remastered (fair quality).
The extra features include; Photo & Poster Gallery, Biographies & Interview with Duncan Renaldo.
You get alot with this double feature DVD. A great introduction or re-introduction to "The Cisco Kid". Duncan Renaldo is "Cisco" and Leo Carillo was the perfect "Poncho". For many movies & for several years this duo graced the big screen and our television sets with their lovable personalities.
This is fun family stuff. A real touch of western nostalgia. Enjoy.

Customer Reviews:
"My Grandfather told of adventures with The Cisco Kid".......2004-07-21
When I was a youngster growing up in the midwest, The Cisco Kid was one of my favorite and biggest heroes ~ many actors played the part from Warner Baxter ("The Cisco Kid"-1931, "Return of the Cisco Kid"-1939), Cesar Romero ("The Cisco Kid & the Lady"-1939, "Lucky Cisco Kid"-1940, "Viva Cisco Kid"-1940), Duncan Renaldo ("The Cisco Kid in Old New Mexico"-1945, "The Cisco Kid Returns"-1945), Gilbert Roland ("The Gay Cavalier"-1946, "South of Monterey"-1946, "Beauty and the Bandit"-1946, "Riding the California Trail"-1947, "Robin Hood of Monterey"-1947, "King of the Bandits"-1947) ~ each film followed the adventures of our famous Robin Hood of the Old West, O. Henry's The Cisco Kid.
The above films paved the way for one of the finest television series featuring Duncan Renaldo as Cisco and Leo Carillo as Pancho ~ also one of the first to be filmed in color, the episodes were half-hour in length and contained some of the character actors (Raymond Hatton) from B-Westerns of the '30s, '40s and '50s ~ the series ran from 1950-1956 ~ always with adventure, romance and comedy.
Renaldo was in his '60s and Carillo in his '70s when they appeared at the "Firemen's Rodeo" in St. Louis during the '50s ~ my Grandmother and Great Aunt took me to see them, and I believe both of them had a crush on the two actors ~ the two actors (Renaldo and Carillo) came galloping out into the center of the arena, every kid in attendance was in awe, as I was and when the show was over, I rode my imaginary horse home.
MPI Home Video now presents "The Cisco Kid Collection 1", with 20 episodes that will bring back all the good memories of your childhood ~ even though some of the clarity is not perfect, they are still the best that is around today ~ so saddle up and get ready for some hard riding and adventure that only The Cisco Kid and Pancho can deliver...gotta love it!

Cisco Kid Vol.1.......2004-04-13
Just a quick note to defend MPI on this release. Some of the reviewers have mentioned the soft focus and the shifting colors. When I used to watch this series years ago on WGN (Sundays at 12 Noon) and later on the old Family Channel cable network...it looked exactly as it does now on this DVD.
The ownership of the series shifted over the years and I'm sure any original material has long vanished. I also remember reading somewhere that the original producer, ZIV Television, shot this on 16mm to save money.
I'm very happy with this release and looking forward to Volume 2 as episodes from the later seasons have been included...many of the later episodes feature some great action sequences.
Great Show But Poor Quality DVD.......2004-04-09
I was very disappointed with the Cisco Kid Collection 1. I have fond memories of the old series and jumped at the chance to own it on DVD. The video quality is appallingly bad. The main title sequence is blurry. The quality of each episode varies from scene to scene, and sometimes it varies within the same scene from one camera shot to the next. For the price at which this collection is being sold, I expected the episodes to be digitally restored. This series deserves to have the same quality of restoration as the Lone Ranger collection. Maybe someone will do that one day.
DO NOT BUY - NO MATTER HOW MUCH YOU LIKE CISCO.......2004-04-04
I am not going to be as kind as the previous poster concerning the picture quality of this set. It is downright appalling....something to possibly be expected from a bargain bin Madacy release, but not for a $40+ set!!!!
The picture is so out-of-focus, it is of a quality of a third generation VHS tape.
Compare this to Rhino's "Lone Ranger" release [which I own], and you will be even more appalled.
Avoid this set at all costs.
Thanks to Amazon, though, for giving me a refund without a hassle.
Thank goodness it's so entertaining.......2004-04-03
A remarkably entertaining series, thanks almost entirely to the performances, chemistry, warmth, and humor of the two leads, Duncan Renaldo and Leo Carillo. I had very fond memories of watching this on Sunday morning reruns in the 1970s, and I was very pleasantly surprised to discover that I was enjoying this DVD release even more than I'd expected to! I also realized a few other things - like how Carillo's expression "Let's went" (instead of "Let's go") had entered into my own vocabulary, and how fun Pancho's dialogue often was in general (listen to his wonderful song at the beginning of the episode "Convict Story" for example). For content, this DVD release (20 different episodes) rates a 5 out of 5.
Now for the bad news. This show was shot and aired in the early 1950s. The picture quality of the episodes on DVD is not very good. It's certainly not terrible, but I'd describe the picture as very soft (almost blurry), with some tint problems (it looks like they tried to fix the color and probably did the best they could, but it's still off - whites have a slightly greenish tint to them, for example). The prints used are fairly clean, at least. But prepare yourself before buying - you might be disappointed with the picture and sound quality, especially considering the price of the set. The quality rates a 3 out of 5, and that's being generous.
However, these shows are so fun and entertaining, I'm happy to accept these as "the best they could do with what they had" and just watch them with a big grin on my face. Oh, Pancho! Oh, Cisco!

Cisco Kid, the Hispanic model for America.......2007-02-04
This review is for VCI's THE CISCO KID Double feature, starring Duncan Renaldo and Leo Carrillo. This entertaining double feature DVD is published by VCI and formatted for worldwide distribution (Region 0), which means it will play anywhere in the world.
The two movies are:
"Satan's Cradle", 1948, where Cisco comes to the aid of a preacher who was beaten up and left in the desert to die after denouncing the evil elements of Silver City. The murderous gang is led by a widow woman and Cisco has to use all his canning and charm to defeat her and restore law and order.
The second feature is "The Daring Caballero" - 1949. Cisco and Pancho rescue a young boy's father who is about to be hanged for a murder he did not commit. Since time is running out, Cisco has but one night to uncover evidence that the man is innocent and expose the culprits.
Though not restored, both films are in a fair to good state, and play well, without jumps, missing frames, or annoying scratches.
The DVD also includes a Photo and Poster Gallery, biographies of Duncan Renaldo and Leo Carrillo plus an interview with Colonel Tim McCoy and Duncan Renaldo where they relive the days when they were top western stars and felt responsible for presenting a wholesome role model for youngsters.
