TIM MCCOY KEEPS PEACE HIS WAY........2004-09-28
The title refers to the "dead man's hand" held by Wild Bill Hickok when he was gunned down during a poker game, and which plays an important part in this limply directed Western that fortunately stars the always poised Tim McCoy, whose piercing glances enfeeble his rivals in his portrayal of "Gentleman" Tim Madigan, an unethical gambler whose finer instincts cause him to assist a beleaguered Mexican family near the California/Nevada border. Madigan survives by his wits as he carries no gun and is given some clever lines from the uneven screenplay, that McCoy delivers with aplomb, stealing the acting honors with ease in this rather subdued example of the genre, wherein recovery is the keyword: of pride, honor and property.

Description
The highly success duo of Sam Newfield and Tim McCoy team up together once more to bring western movie buffs yet another outstanding thriller. Tim McCoy plays a nonconformist, honest card sharp who does not believe in strapping on a holster, and relies on his physical prowess to overcome even the fastest gun in the west.
Centered on the greed of a few men who had all they needed but wished for more and didn't care how they got it, this western is fast paced and keeps you tethered to the screen for over an hour.
Aces and Eights is a story of a Spanish family's struggle to retain their priced ranch and keep it out of the hands of greedy land grabbers. Fortunately, a stranger who carries no gun but moves as fast as lightening comes to their rescue and brings back the lost heir as well.
McCoy's skilled handling of the role and a deck of cards are amazing and a treat you must not miss. Witness how the west did not always rely on bullets and six shooters to ensure that justice was meted out in this electrifying western drama, which a2zcds.com has preserved on DVD.

Proof That B Movies Can Work Well .......2006-11-28
In this modern era of huge Hollywood blockbusters that seem to open every weekend and take the world by storm, it's interesing to think that the motion picture business used to work with an A and B movie system.
The system worked, because to get people in the theaters in the days before multiplexes, they needed to put two films on per sitting. They couldn't afford to have all of their films be star studded spectaculars, so for the most part you would get to see one blockbuster - but only after sitting through a smaller budgeted "B" movie first.
What Hollywood could not have predicted is that over time, many people eventually realized that these lower budgeted B movies were often better and more intersting than the A List movies that they were opening for.
The Tim McCoy western series - and Aces and Eights in particular - are a good example of this phenominon. Almost every one of them has an interesting twist and survives repeated viewing very, very well.
This disk is typical of the series, with McCoy comming in and saving the day when bad men are about to con a Hispanic family out of their home.
The con men have gotten the family to almost gamble away the entire ranch, but what no one knows is that McCoy's character is an even better gambler than the bad men.
You can guess how this works out - though honestly the process of the anti-con is not the point of this movie. What is the point is that it is a great period genre western that keeps you on the edge of your seat until the final happy ending.
The film is good and it's very well restored.

In Walks A Man With A White Hat.......2006-07-28
I'm not sure why this genre always works so well, but I do know that it does. This time around you have a typical problem in the wild west - bad guys are trying to take a good family's ranch and it looks like they will lose until a man with a white hat walks in with a six gun and saves the day. The acting is really good and the film quality rocks.
Traditional Western With A Spanish Twist.......2006-05-18
Well. It's not often you get an old school western that also has a social concious. That said, this film is much more western than it is PC sensitive film. There is just enough story in there about the plight of Spanish settlers to make you feel not too quilty about watchin a White Hats Versus Black Hats film. It moves along very quickly and the gun play is better staged that most westerns of this era.
I am a diehard fan Of McCoy's and will not miss a single movie of his .. thanks to A2ZCDS.......2006-05-03
I remember reading that McCoy was the fastest man on the draw in Hollywood and was amazed to see him toss away the gun in this episode, which is just as thrilling as it would have been if he did carry a six shooter. Tim's rare magnetism carries the plot so well that you don't seem to remember any other name except his when the lights are turned on again. I am a diehard fan Of McCoy's and will not miss a single movie of his - regardless of whether he carries a gun or not!

Description
starring Colonel Tim McCoy, Rex Leach (1936) Bad guys are after Hernandez's rancho. They lend money to his son Jose, then cheat him at cards to win it back. A notorious gambler (McCoy) steps in to help Hernandez and get Jose out of trouble. Tex Ralph's Westerns #49 B-Westerns strongly evoked traditional American values - honesty, courage, hard work, fair play, and that a good little man can always kick the butt of a bad big man. In the darkness of the theater and afterwards, out in the Saturday afternoon sunlight playing cowboys and Indians, long before political correctness changed the name of our favorite boyhood game, we knew we were right and lived in the greatest land of all... because Gene and Roy and Hoppy and all our other heroes said so and showed us how to live a good moral life by riding hard, drawing fast, and never, EVER stealing a horse or rustling a cow. "Tex Ralph's Westerns" is a weekly TV show on cable channel 20, URTV, in Asheville, North Carolina. Author Ralph Roberts chooses exciting B-Westerns and hosts each episode. Currently there are 53 movies in this series, all available on DVD.

They mostly play bad poker, but there is one reason to buy this........2007-05-23
Note: This review is for the uncut episode #1 DVD. It says uncut version on the mostly red, DVD cover. The mostly black DVD box, shown in this listing, may also be the uncut version, but the DVD is covering up part of the box picture, where the words: 'As seen on Pay-Per-View, Uncut Version', are listed on mine. (I also think that, the episode #2 DVD, has a mostly purple cover, listed as just, 'Strip Poker Invitational' on this website). Very confusing, I know.
All of Carmen Electra's silly sayings, such as, "What a great pair", are badly edited in, so it's easy to tell she's not on the set, while this real (with some minor strip poker rules added) , 55 minute, 2004 Texas Hold'em game is being played. The extra six minute, 'behind the scenes' footage at the end of the game, confirms that Carmen is shooting her scenes separately. Carmen is never nude, and the 6 girls are only topless.
The 2 announcers (Jason Pardo and Sybil Azur), mostly provide tongue-in-cheek commentary, with some very basic poker strategy thrown in.
Although this is a winner-take-all game, for a $50,000 first prize, with frequent chip counts given, and nice enough card graphics, it's rather dull, because only one of the girls (Erica Allen-NOT her real last name) can play poker. The others just make bad calls, folds, and check too often.
However, the six topless players (Felicia Tang, Tiffany Lang, Tracy Dali, Aimee Sweet, Heather Carolin, Erica Allen), are certainly hot enough (except for 'Playboy Playmate', Heather Carolin), but the only real reason to buy this DVD, is to see Erica Allen (NOT her real last name) topless. She's actually a real professional poker and Blackjack player, as well as a former junior Olympic volleyball player, with the same first name.
Although Erica's real identity, has yet to be confirmed, if you've watched enough poker or Blackjack on tv, you'll probably recognize her right away, and be glad you bought this DVD. I'm All-in.
