Great Americans Western Vol 19 is not the best of the bunch. These are Grade B Spaghettis,from the late 60's and 70's. with some great American Actors, who try, but really can't save these flicks. By the way, none of these, would be family oriented either. The themes running through them are adult and there is too much violence for the younger set. They deal with rape and vengeance. Three are rated R.

"Joshua" from 1976 stars Fred Williamson(remember him?.."Spearchucker Jones" from M*A*S*H) as a returing civil war soldier, who finds his mother has been killed and her employer's wife has been taken by some very brutal men. He won't stop until he has found them and made sure they pay for what they did. This one is in widescreen.

"Kid Vengeance"(1977) is the one I'll say is probably the best of this bunch. A young Leif Garrett, witness the rape of his mother and killing of both his parents by some really bad hombres, led by Lee Van Cleef. His sister is kidnapped by the bunch, and young Leif, who is an expert tracker already, picks the gang off one by one. Jim Brown is also out for revenge against the group. Okay film, nothing to write home about.

"Cry Apache Blood"(1970)..as a western lover, I'm trying to think of something redeeming about this one, but I can't think of anything. Joel McCrea is the headliner, but he has only a minor part, as his story is told in flashbacks, of brutal killings of Indians, and his younger part is played by son Jody Mcrea, who I'm afraid to say, is not his father!

"Four Rode Out" (1969), a great cast includes Leslie Nielsen. Pernell Roberts, and Sue Lyon("Lolita"), but even they couldn't get me intrested in this snoozer of a story, with bad dialouge....Desperado being chased by everyone!

Once again, these Platinum Disc films are not the most pristeen. Colors are usually washed out, and sometimes the films need to be cleaned up.They are however very viewable and Platinum has put together so many of these Western packages for we oater lovers to choose from and enjoy, and when you find some you like, you really can't go wrong for the price. There are a couple of dozen single discs to chose from, and several packaged deals. Each disc has 4 films, all on the same side, all have the sound enhanced in DD5.1(usually this is pretty good). If you happen to get this one in a multi-pack, they are probably worth checking out if you have run out of other things to watch, if you are buying them by single edition you can probably pass this one by. Probably worth the view just to see all the actors way back when(hence my 3 star rating)

I did get a valuable reminder from these films though, and I'll pass them on to all you other cowboys and gals...ALWAYS check you boots, out in the desert, before you put them back on!
