Part of what was touted as a late-1980s revival of Westerns (and you can see how long that lasted), this good-looking, empty-brained film was like a spurs-and-chaps version of a Joel Schumacher movie, filled with pretty faces, prettier imagery, and absolutely no new ideas. The idiotically grinning Emilio Estevez is cast as Billy the Kid, who slowly accumulates a gang of Brat Pack buddies (Lou Diamond Phillips, Kiefer Sutherland, Dermot Mulroney) and fashions them into a group of male models with six-guns. The action is confused and the script is trite, though Terence Stamp is intriguing as the old reprobate who helps the gang get its act together. Followed by an even worse sequel. --Marshall Fine

This time around, the Brat Packers (Emilio Estevez, Christian Slater, Lou Diamond Phillips, Kiefer Sutherland) are on the run from the law and making a break for the border. Sutherland is yanked from his school-teaching job back East and extradited for trial, until he's liberated by the other members of the gang. There's a memorable scrap between Phillips and Slater, and a couple of pretty decent firefights, but all in all this is rather forgettable fare. It taps into the futility and camaraderie of classics like The Wild Bunch and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, but Sam Peckinpah or George Roy Hill it ain't. Jon Bon Jovi adds to the Rock-Stars-in-the-Old-West feel of this one, rife as it is with non-period dialogue and long, blowy hair. Still, fans of the original movie may find plenty to like in this sequel, even if it comes across as being a bit tired and turgid (notice there never was a Young Guns III). --Jerry Renshaw

thankyou! the movie was brand new and we received it in a timely manner!
YOUNG GUNS II.......2007-01-11
I was very, very disappointed when the version I received did not have the entire Jon Bon Jovi sound track. That's what I wanted the DVD for as I already have 2 VHS tapes without it. Can someone tell me where I can get the Young Guns II theatrical version that has the entire Bon Jovi soundtrack?
Young Guns II DVD.......2007-01-04
This is a must buy if you have the first movie. It is a great sequal. A great addition to you western DVD library.
a sequal that lives up to, maybe even surpassing the original.......2006-12-20
the action is hotter, the sound track is awsome, and the recollection of supposedly an old-aged Billy The Kid, makes you wonder what really happened. This movie rocks!
Young Guns II: Great Fun in the Wild Wild West!.......2006-10-17
How many times have we seen a sequel that was better than original? Let's face it: something like that is rare.
Young Guns, the film from 1988 was a succes at the box office, so a sequel came in 1990. Well folks, I'll tell you: Young Guns II entertains and is even better than the original.
The story of Young Guns II basically takes of where Part I stopped.
Cast members Emilio Estevez, Kiefer Sutherland and Lou Diamond Phillips are united once more for some more fun in the wild wild west.
The story may be historically inaccurate, the story is nice and gives a lot of entertainment and surprises.
Emilio Estevez is back as Billy the Kid and gives an even more satisfying performance than in the first one. He gives his crazy, triggerhappy character an extra touch and even shows a more emotional side of the character.
Kiefer Sutherland plays a good role as Doc and even if his role may feel a bit smaller than in the first one, he shows that he's there in every scene where he is necessary.
Lou Diamond Phillips is cooler than ever as his Mexican Indian character, 'Jose' Chavez y Chavez. He steals the show with his serious, relaxed and knifethrowing protrayel of the character. Great job.
As for the rest of the cast: there are a lot of newcomers in the film including Christian Slater, Alan Ruck, Balthazar Getty and William L. Petersen who all do a fine job and keep the film, considering acting, in the safety zone.
The rest of the film: camerawork, locations, sets, costumes and music are all perfectly and professionally done. The locations are stunning, beautiful and show the West in it's full pride.
Now the Music by Alan Silvestri is what powers the film up. Sivestri once again shows he has the talent to bring the film to a higher entertainment value thanks to his music. It is great adventerous western music with a nice Silvestri twist to it. Some moments can give you a positive chill along your backspine because of a great wide location shot while a wonderfull theme is powering it up enormously.
Another element which makes Young Guns II better than the original is that in the first part some things felt a bit unexplored, too much left alone. It gave you the feeling that it could have been worked out a bit more. Now with Young Guns II, those little errors are gone. Some things still feel like they could have been shown a bit better, but it doesn't bother that much as in the first.
Also, another thing which makes Young Guns II fantastic is the dramatic touch. The emotional level from the first film is raised a few bars in this one. Expect a bit more drama and emotion, two elements which make this film a-ok.
The action in the film is absolutely great and well done. Shootouts, pursuits, one on one fights, horse stunts: it's all part of the action. Western fans who love great westernvoilence and action won't be dissapointed: it has just enough action and suspence to keep you watching.
All in all, Young Guns II has become a highly entertaining modern western which leaves you satisfied in your seat. It rocks, it rolls and it beats the orginal Young Guns.

Lots of Sound and Fury.......2007-06-27
This western is another view of the Lincoln County War, the commercial rivalry between business owners over cattle, government contracts, etc. John Tunstall offers a home to young men. Dolan and Murphy are in cahoots with Sheriff Brady; they are against any competition. Will they eliminate it? [There is no mention of the economic depression of 1876 and its effects.] The story seems to be aimed for the audience of today, not for historical accuracy. But who can say undocumented events didn't happen?] The New Year is celebrated by firing guns into the air (a custom still observed). Soon fireworks will provide safer and saner noisemakers. The Murphy-Dolan gang shoots Tunstall to eliminate competition. So what will his cowboys do?
Alex McSween, Tunstall's lawyer, gets the Justice of the Peace to deputize Tunstall's cowboys. William Bonney serves a warrant to Henry Hill, and others. They find and stop more of Murphy's men. Bonney is shown as blood-thirsty. `Buckshot' Roberts comes to collect a bounty on these deputies. Things go bad. Billy the Kid led his men to ambush Sheriff Brady, a cold-blooded murder. The Governor puts a $200 bounty on Billy, and revokes their status as deputies. Billy is wanted for murder by the law. A bounty hunter meets Billy and makes one mistake. Billy and his gang are chased by a larger band.
The film shows the gang fleeing to Old Mexico. [Had Billy left the Territory of New Mexico his future would be different.] The film recreates the famous siege and burning of Alex McSween's store. It is dramatic entertainment, but I wonder how accurate it all is? The burning house leads to a desperate escape attempt. The film ends by telling about future events. [Robert M. Utley's book on Billy the Kid provides a more historical account.]
"By The Way, You're Under Arrest" ~ Do The Good Guys Always Wear Badges?.......2007-06-14
The '88 mini-classic 'Young Guns' is a rowdy, shoot em up, good old time starring some of Hollywood's favorite young actors at the time of its release. Emilio Estevez delivers probably his best role to date as the hot-headed, amoral Billy the Kid. He is joined by a gang of sharp-shooters and knife throwers played by such notables as; Keifer Sutherland, Lou Diamond Phillips, Charlie Sheen and Dermont Mulroney. Add to the mix Terrance Stamp and the beloved bad guy Jack Palance and you've got yourself a western you can enjoy over and over again. So pull up your boots, strap on your six-shooter and find your hat. As far a badges go, who needs a stinking badge.

Description
The year is 1878, Lincoln County. John Tunstall, a British ranchowner, hires six rebellious boys as "regulators" to protect his ranch against the ruthless Santa Fe Ring. When Tunstall is killed in an ambush, the Regulators, led by the wild-tempered Billy the Kid (Estevez), declare war on the Ring. As their vendetta turns into a bloody rampage, they are branded outlaws, becoming the objects of the largest manhunt in Western history.

impressive, but lacks "Wow!".......2007-02-08
I purchased the Blu-ray debuts of Young Guns & First Blood together to beef up my collection of "guilty pleasure" titles. As both of these are Lionsgate propety, they share similar layout and content. Young Guns, while a decent performer, doesn't seem to have the breathtaking image transfer I was hoping for. If you already own the "Special Edition" standard DVD that was released no so long ago, you would be fine not to upgrade to this, particularly if you have a decent upscaler (albeit, for $19, this BRD is a bargain). The picture seems slightly better defined than the standard version with the most notable improvements being in the blacks (which should be expected in hi-def). Since I don't have a DTS-HD capable setup, I can't really review the audio on this disc other than to say that the standard DTS track sounds just like the one from the standard DVD - which isn't a negative. The BRD also features the the same extra features from the DVD, which aint much. The "trivia" track is kinda cool - much more graphically intensive than before and gives a decent insight into the making of the film as you're watching it. As with First Blood, the pop-up menu is annoying in that is takes up half of the screen, but it's still functional and better than having to exit the film to play around. If you already own the Special Edition DVD, this may not be the upgrade you ar hoping for... it is better than the standard DVD, just not by much. First Blood has a much better transfer.

Description
YOUNG GUNS - The year is 1878, Lincoln County. THE LAST DAYS OF FRANK & JESSE JAMES - From 1866 to 1882, Missouri's Frank and Jesse James led a gang that robbed banks, held up trains and became the most famous outlaws in American history. After 15 years of thievery, the legendary outlaws are trying to settle down. This is the last years of the brothers' lives, revealing Frank (Johnny Cash) as a book-loving and family-oriented man and brother Jesse (Kris Kristofferson) as a money-hungry womanizer.
