The battle at Prison #5 continues in the sixth installment of Fullmetal Alchemist, as Edward and Alphonse Elric duel with suits of armor animated by the disembodied souls of murderers. In the deeper dungeons, the brothers learn that many of their adventures have been arranged by unseen puppeteers. Shou Tucker, the alchemist who created hideous chimeras in episode 7, has continued his research at the Prison, helping to draw Ed there. But Tucker is just a pawn for the homunculi, Lust, Envy, and Gluttony, who want the Philosopher's Stone for their own purposes. Edward is faced with the terrible choice of losing his brother or committing a hellish crime when the experiment is interrupted by Scar, the powerful and vengeful survivor of Ishbal. Although these conflicts are dramatic, they're eclipsed by the Elric brothers' inner struggles: Al has begun to doubt that he ever existed in human form, while Ed fears that Al hates him for delving into the forbidden knowledge that destroyed his body. Many series lose their energy and momentum as they near their midpoint; Fullmetal Alchemist shows no signs of slackening. (Rated TV PG: violence, grotesque imagery, tobacco use) --Charles Solomon

Description

While Al defends himself against the transmuted Barry the Chopper, Ed discovers more about the dark alchemic experiments deep within Lab Five. But the biggest threat of all may be Ed's own morality, as he's tempted with the ultimate power he's been seeking for years. Hughes issues an order to allow Armstrong, Bloch and Ross to investigate what's going on inside the 5th laboratory. Now Ed sees that Tucker was hiding the fact that there were human prisoners involved in the making of the stone...and that Ed would have unknowingly killed them. But Lust has Al held hostage...forcing Ed to attempt the unthinkable, Meanwhile, Al's recurring questions about his existence come to a boil. Was ther ever an Alphonse Elric? Or are his memories and soul alchemically created lies?

5 out of 5 stars What Is Human?.......2006-07-03

The moral issues presented in FMA is something you'd find in some of the more classical works of literature, not in an anime aimed at teenagers. Yet it all works as the series never gets away from the fact that it is dealing with some of the most basic concepts of being human. Hell, FMA's bad-guys are even named after the Seven Deadly Sins.

This volume continues with Ed and Al's fight within and outside the prison against creatures that are very akin to Alphonse. Eventually, though, the brother's find themselves facing off against the main antagonists of the series (the aforementioned Seven Deadly Sins). Later, Alphonse must face the fact that he's losing his memories and must also figure out a few things on his own, like whether or not he ever truly existed as the brother to Edward Elric, and what exactly it is to be human. Also, Scar takes center stage more than once in this volume in a somewhat surprising way...

FMA's ability to juggle the massive cast is brilliant. I think I can name almost every character in FMA (and for me, this is something as I'm very forgetful of names), simply because each and every character has something endearing about them. That includes the bit-players who are there simply to fill a moment of the series or to progress a specific scene ahead.

If you haven't started collecting FMA yet, then start quickly. There aren't many anime out right now that can top FMA. It has everything great anime has: great story, great characters, great music, great animation. Though it may be cliche to say this, FMA is one of the top five anime ever created, and any fan of anime would be foolish to let this slip by them.

5 out of 5 stars It only gets better.......2006-02-25

So far we're 8 volumes into Fullmetal Alchemist and I have to say initially I was planning on waiting to buy these in some large pack for a reduced or bargin price. But, temptation got the better of me and you know it should get the better of you.

If you haven't already purchased the first seven volumes in this series I have to ask why? Fullmetal Alchemist is right up there with the greats of Anime. You'll never find two more loveable protagonists, action, side splitting humor, and momments that just stay with you. Don't just take it from me go catch a few episodes on Cartoon Network and you'll see for yourself.

5 out of 5 stars the best anime ever.......2006-02-24

fullmetal alchemist is in my opinion a great anime and
this dvd episodes are really good so buy it today or you will
regret it.

5 out of 5 stars The Journey of the Two Brothers is Far From Over.......2006-01-06

Fullmetal Alchemist is a great show in general, but I like this dvd a lot. Out of all the animes I've seen, this is the only one I enjoy. It has drama, action, a bit of horror and comedy. This dvd also reveals a lot of things to the audience, and to the story line as well. I would at least give this dvd (and the show) a four.

5 out of 5 stars to the kid who gave it one star.......2006-01-01

Of course you don't like the show, you still think pokemon's the best anime you've ever seen ;)....But seriously though,This Is my fav anime all time!!!,I mean It's close between evangelion and FMA,But FMA gets the edge..5/5 stars acrosss the board!..although,I wouldn't buy the DVD's till a boxset came out..I mean the series is only 52 episodes long,so Im sure there put out a box set after the shows over and will be cheaper than buying every dvd...Just My opinion...

5 out of 5 stars Peter Tosh "Captured Live" was awsome.......2007-04-11

Peter Tosh Captured Live reminded me so much of the time I had the opportunity to have attended one of his concerts at the pier many years ago. He was a man of great depth and a militant style who was not afraid to speak out lyrically about oppression, police brutality, exploitation, poverty... This is a great DVD to add to your collection. Peter Tosh "Mystical Man" gone but not forgotton, your music will live on forever!!

5 out of 5 stars RASTAFARI - IS.......2007-04-04

I AM A NEW FAN OF PETER AND IT IS PRETTY MUCH BECAUSE OF THIS DVD. WHILE IT ONLY HAS HALF OF WHAT YOU CAN HEAR ON THE LIVE CD, I THINK IT TAKES THE BEST SONGS. MY FAVORITE IS THE 12 MINUTE RASTAFARI-IS WHICH IS THE HEIGHT OF THE SHOW AS FAR AS IM CONCERNED. I SEE THE BASS PLAYER AND DRUMMER GET MENTION BUT THE KEYBOARDIST ALSO DESERVES SOME PRAISE AS HE DAZZLES US ESPECIALLY ON THIS SONG. MANY CLIPS ON YOUTUBE ARE PULLED FROM THIS DVD/VHS. THE SOUND IS TOTALLY 80'S, AND WHATS BEST IS PETERS SPIRIT DURIN THE SHOW, HE SEEMS HAPPY AND EXPRESSES THIS IN DANCE WHICH IS QUITE DIFFERENT THAN OTHER SHOWS. NOT THAT IVE SEEN MANY OF HIS AS THEY ARE ONLY BITS AND PIECES ON DVDS AND INTERNET. THIS IS A MUST FOR PETER FANS

5 out of 5 stars The Roots Reggae Ambassador at his Best!.......2007-01-06

This concert is a powerful one hour showcasing the many talents of the Roots Reggae Ambassador Peter Tosh. The way he commanded the stage (check out his african garb and arab scarf on his head with mirror tint glasses) is worth the purchase alone. The band does an amazing job particularly Santa Davis on drums and Vision on percussion. Despite the dominant white audiance, Peter never succombs to performing pop records. His song selection is strictly roots and rebellious. Even the poppy "Johnny B. Goode" chronicals his life growing up on the tiny island of Jamaica. One reviewer wrote the audiance looked bored. That is absolutely not the case. Nearly everybody is standing up throughout the entire performance cheering non stop. Some stand out performances are "Pick myself up," "Rastafari Is (check out his congo performance w/ Vision, brilliant)," and "Not going to Give it up (he reveals the dreadlocks to a roaring ovation)." Peter was a masterful musician, songwriter, performer, and political activist. His performances was his ultimate platform to reveal his most inner thoughts and beliefs to the world. Peter Tosh lived and died through his music. "Captured Live" did indeed do just that, capture his life.

2 out of 5 stars Not so great.......2006-08-01

I love roots, I love Peter Tosh, and I found this DVD mildly interesting, but not great. Halfway through I lost interest. It lacks the sheer power and 'wow' factor of the live Wailers performances. The backing band seems very average - a very 'synthesized' and not very rootsy sound. Kind of like a session band, not a real roots. The (mostly white) audience looks bored - most are sitting throughout the performance, and Tosh seems to disconnected from them - no real interaction between Tosh and audience. Peter Tosh was a serious activist and grand master of reggae, but somehow this show doesn't capture that. I know Peter Tosh has done some great performances, I'm hoping for better live footage to emerge one day.

4 out of 5 stars The man itself!!!!.......2004-01-30

I saw Peter Tosh in this tour while I was studying in New Orleans (Sept. 1983), I am not sure if it was just before or after this show was taped. Well, unfortunatly we can not see him anymore, but this DVD captures the escence of this great show. Great performance by PT and the band, specially Santa Davis (drums) and Fully Fulwood (bass). If you like reggae or if you like to see a good show, just go ahead an get this DVD, you will not regret it. A gret show from one of reggea prime musician. I only gave it four stars because the DVD has only part of the performance, for full concert please check the double CD Captured Live.

Tennessee Williams once wrote, "Marion Davies makes up for the rest of Hollywood," and this superb documentary demonstrates why the gifted actress was so beloved in high society. Executive produced by Hugh Hefner and narrated by Charlize Theron, Captured on Film corrects the fallacy that obscured Davies's achievements since the release of Citizen Kane in 1941. Orson Welles intended no harm with his masterpiece, but the film's portrayal of a publishing tycoon--loosely based on William Randolph Hearst and his lengthy affair with Davies--painted an unflattering portrait of a talentless, drunken mistress, and Davies was quite the opposite. Among many expert interviewees, film historian Kevin Brownlow observes that Davies was truly the first screwball comedian, and vintage film clips bear him out: watch Davies impersonate such film greats as Lillian Gish and Pola Negri, and you can see her comedic gift in full bloom, undiminished by time. Her 32-year devotion to Hearst (whose wife refused to divorce him) is accurately chronicled as sincere and meaningful, and the 1927 feature Quality Street offers a worthy showcase for Davies's versatile talents. (It was remade in 1937 with Katharine Hepburn; this silent version is arguably superior.) --Jeff Shannon

Description

Blonde, beautiful and talented, Marion Davies was the first and funniest screwball comedienne. As star of two of the best comedies ever made, "Show People" and "The Patsy," she combined zany slapstick and exuberant mimicry; she was also famous for her 35-year-long love affair with William Randolph Hearst. Unfortunately she has too often been remembered for a film in which she never appeared: "Citizen Kane." Orson Welles may have based his great film on the life of Hearst, but Davies was nothing like Susan Alexander. This loving and insightful combination of archival film clips, interviews, and rare home movies explores her life and work, from her days dancing in the Ziegfield Follies through her relationship with Hearst, which led to Hearst creating for her a movie studio and a legendary castle where she reigned over the elite of Hollywood. Narrated by Charlize Theron, this moving tribute to a silver screen legend is one to cherish.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars You gotta love Marion Davies.......2007-01-12

Captured on Film - The True Story of Marion Davies is a marvellous bio about a truly great comedienne of the 20s and 30s. Marion is known for being the companion of William Randolph Hearst but that is a very small part of who she really was. Her talents are enormous. She is very funny, as well as beautiful but nevertheless she will take a role as a homely girl, no makeup, unattractive clothing, if the part requires it. Her ability to use foreign accents for roles is by far the best I have ever seen. This bio reveals Marion as a truly generous, loving and devoted woman to those who worked with her, be it cast or crew. She was good to everyone, quietly meeting many needs and helping those she could. I admire Marion Davies very much and have enjoyed every one of the many movies of hers I have seen, whether silent or talking pics. I implore you to check out this bio about a very talented lady.

5 out of 5 stars Fact and Fiction: Either Way She's Great.......2006-02-12

Captured on Film: The True Story of Marion Davies is an insightful look at one of the most talented stars of the silent era. Davies' talent had been overshadowed by the way she was portrayed in the film Citizen Kane years after she had left the screen; many people suffer the misconception that Davies was a gold digging drunk with no merits as an actress. This could not be further from the truth. Paired with interviews with notable fans like Kevin Brownlow, Virginia Madsen, Fred Laurence Guiles, and Jeanine Basinger and film clips from some of the accessible to the rarest of Marion's films like Show People, The Floradora Girl, The Patsy, When Knighthood Was in Flower, Janice Meredeth, Beauty's Worth, Little Old New York, and Marianne, this documentary proves that Davies truly was a force to be reckoned with. The film concentrates less on her early life and her life after Hearst than during her stardom, but this is understandable since the bulk of viewers are most interested in this time frame.

Coupled with this fascinating documentary is the silent film Quality Street. It stars Marion as a beautiful young girl whose love for a soldier played by Conrad Nagel is threatened by the Napoleonic wars. While he is away for ten years, she loses her beauty and charm; when Nagel comes back for her, he finds an old maid schoolteacher and realizes he no longer loves her. Instead of sulking, she takes action and impersonates a niece called Miss Livvy who wins Nagel quickly with her former personality. The film is exciting, vibrant, and incredibly entertaining. It truly showcases Marion Davies' talents as a star.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful documentary of an unfairly maligned actress.......2005-04-14

Perhaps the most memorable scene in Orson Welles' Citizen Kane is his talentless, screechy wife's "operatic" debut. Just as Kane was a thinly disguised alter-ego to William Randolph Hearst, Susan Kane was a thinly disguised parody of Marion Davies, Hearst's long-time mistress.
The thing was though, the real life Marion Davies was very talented and kind, and nothing like the self-centered, pathetic Susan. This wonderful documentary restores the balance. There are lots of clips of Marion's films, and her radiance, gift of parody and mimicry, and comic timing are all obvious. Marion supposedly stuttered in real life but her talkies have no sign of the stutter. Davies is a joy to watch on camera. Her eyes are large and expressive, and she does a wicked imitation of Greta Garbo that would make SNL proud.
The documentary is narrated by Charlize Theron (who has a very pleasing speaking voice), and it has interviews with filmmakers, historians, and biographers. Virginia Madsen, who portrayed Miss Davies in a film, is also interviewed, as is Ruth Warrick, one of the stars of "Citizen Kane." Nothing is sugar-coated: Marion Davies was loyal to W.R. Hearst, but she did have dalliances with her leading men. She also, unfortunately, resembled Susan Kane in that she had a drinking problem. But it seems as if everyone who met her loved her. There are numerous testimonials to her generosity and even gullibleness.
Most documentaries are disappointing in their extras, but not "Marion Davies." It contains a "bonus" of an entire silent film of Davies -- Quality Street, which was remade into a talkie (starring Katharine Hepburn). Like most silent films this one takes some imagination to appreciate, but it's wonderful watching Marion's comic timing and charm on full display.
Highly recommended. I got this dvd for my mom, who is fascinated by Marion Davies, but ended up enjoying it tremendously.

Doug MacLeod has tremendous virtuosity on the guitar and a genuine presence in his style of mixing stories, comedy, and good 'ole down home reality. You are there in a small, intimate venue and at a private party where Doug's talents are showcased. Denny provides a solid bassline as well as counterpoint to Doug's lead. I love this music.

Baghdad fell after just twenty-one days of combat, but the capture of Saddam Hussein took a further eight months and was played out amid a brutal guerrilla war in which the hunters frequently became the hunted. The dictator had simply disappeared and finding him dead or alive was a top priority for US forces. The search for Saddam quickly became a real life crime drama as investigators combined sophisticated software and old-fashioned police work to tighten the noose on Saddam's inner circle. Ace in the Hole is the first-hand story of the US Army investigators who tracked down every lead until their final raid uncovered the Iraqi dictator cowering in his 'spider-hole.

The year is AD 64, and in Rome, the church faces fierce persecution. Driven into hiding, Christians gather wherever it is safe, and together they brave the Emperor Nero's fury. At secret meetings, they learn about Jesus of Nazareth, and their faith prospers, thanks to courageous "tellers" like Ben the Baker, who with his wife, Helena, and their family of young orphans--Anna, Zakkai the Zealot (better known as Zak), ustin, Marcus, and Cyrus, a young street juggler--keep the stories of Jesus alive in... Cyrus's acrobatic talent turns him from a captive to the star of the show in the mansion of his new friend, Flavian the merchant. He has a life of luxury--until the abused slaves revolt. Suddenly, he wishes he'd cooperated when the gang tried to smuggle him home. Can love redeem the ungrateful Cyrus, as it does the prodigal son in Jesus' parable? Can it heal the rift between Cyrus and Justin, just as Jesus healed the centurion's servant?

The Fullmetal Alchemist 2nd Box Set comes with a DVD of Michiru Oshima's music performed by Moscow International Symphonic Orchestra, plus the lyrics to "Ready Steady Go" and "To the Other Side of the Door" in English and Japanese.

Limited Edition set comes packaged in a collectible tin with the CD soundtrack.

Cool tin and great addition to my collection. Snug fit for the dvd's keeps them quite safe and with good looks too. Also comes with the soundtrack that is pretty good too.

5 out of 5 stars Worth the price.......2005-11-17

Fullmetal Alchemist has been one of the best anime series I've seen. In my opinion, it tops Bebop in so many ways. Enough with my opinions. Now, this set includes the Tin Box, which has nice art, the 6th Volume of the series (which didn't have the last episode of season 1 *.*), and the 2nd soundtrack of the series, which contains the rest of the songs from the second season. It's well worth every penny, not just because it's Fullmetal, but also because of the beautiful sounds that the Moscow orchestra wonderfully put together. This is the anime series that you truly cannot miss.

5 out of 5 stars Worth it for the "shwag" and the Soundtrack.......2005-09-30

The soundtrack to this series is AMAZING. Simply AMAZING. I love the first OST soundtrack that came with the first box set and I look forward to the second.

I am so thrilled with the dub of this series. Funimation has done an amazing job with the production of the whole thing. I have not been disappointed with the voice acting at all.

I've seen the whole series in Japanese, but STILL get excited when new "American/English" episodes come out.

5 out of 5 stars This will include the volume 6 DVD plus the second soundtrack CD.......2005-09-21

You still have to buy the DVD's one volume at a time. The boxed sets just give you a tin storage box to keep 5 volumes in and a soundtrack CD. I have the first boxed set and plan to get this one as well. This comes with volume 6, which contains episodes 21-24. Unfortunately we'll have to wait to get episode 25, which wraps up season 2 of the show and includes a very shocking ending. The episodes on this disc are still very good and are among the most dramatic of the series.

CAPTURED is a thriller which pits a development tycoon against a car thief.

Holden Downs (Nick Mancuso) is a developer who has his dream of building Millenium City halted due to a lawsuit by a conservation group. Two car thieves choose the wrong time to attempt a theft of Holden's car and he takes it out on one of them by breaking his arm. This act leaves a bad taste is the mouth of the older brother, Robert Breed (Andrew Divoff), who plans to steal the car for good. Meanwhile, Holden, who has not taken kindly to the threat, has the security system on the car updated to set a trap for the would be car thief. Robert acts on his plan to steal the car and end up as Holden's captive; pitting two captor and captive against each other with a downward spiral which presents a moral dilemma of going too far and at what point one went too far.

CAPTURED does a good job of maintaining its pace and giving Mancuso quite a bit of dialogue to deliver overzealously. As Divoff presents a balancing character, it is ashame that they did not give him as much with which he could work, leaving his character underdeveloped. Despite this, Divoff does give a good performance with what he has. The imbalance in the characters, even though Mancuso's character is the primary, takes away from the potential to sypathize with other than Mancuso's character, and that will disappear in short order.

What CAPTURED ends up presenting is a story about one man, who nobody cares about, and a thief, who nobody cares about, winding its way through a predictable series of events and an overdrawn ending which was obvious well before the movie got there.

Despite this, CAPTURED does maintain a good pace with Mancuso and Divoff working well off of each other. There are moments of tension which raise the film above its own predictability. CAPTURED is not a movie I would highly recommend, but, if you have nothing better to do, it will not bore. It frankly strikes me as a 95 minute episode of The Outer Limits with its moral dilemma and its twist ending.--Bob

5 out of 5 stars Peter Liapis definitely did a good job with this movie........2002-02-10

This movie was so good, all I can say is, "wow." One of the best thrillers I have seen in a long time. Peter Liapis who starred in Ghoulies and Ghoulies IV wrote and directed this movie. It was creepy and suspenseful.

Andrew Divoff stars in this movie as a petty thief who gets caught trying to steal a car owned by Holden Down (Nick Mancuso) and ends up trapped in the car.

During the middle/end of the movie, Andrew (Robert Breed) gets out and then things get really interesting. From the beginning to the end the movie kept up with the plot, and it never got boring.

I think in the beginning though, it is kind of hard to understand until you see Andrew's character and his Brother going after Holden's car, then it starts from there when Holden catches his Brother and breaks his arm. The acting was really good, Andrew Divoff was the best actor in this movie. I enjoyed his performance as well as Nick Mancusos.

5 out of 5 stars A Great Straight to video release.......2001-02-05

Just like to say simply, that this is one of the best straight to video titles I have ever seen.

It's one of those movies that is SO much better than it sounds, and therefore greatly under -rated!

I was on the edge of my seat all the time!!

4 out of 5 stars Nick Mancuso at his best.......2000-07-17

I loved this picture. First, the twist of the story itself and a moral dilemma in it, second - brilliant performance by Nick Mancuso - his character , who used to be IN CONTROL AND LOVING IT, now being on the edge of insanity... Well, Nick Mancuso IS IN CONTROL of your attention till the very end. Add music, photography... An hour and a half very well spent!

4 out of 5 stars Attention: All Ye Michael Mahonen Fans!.......2000-06-28

Michael Mahonen is one of Canada's finest actors. I loved him when he played,"Lee Colagen",on the CBS/Canadian mini-series, "Conspiracy of Silence". I also agreed with other people that he role should have been more in-depth. On "Captured", I feel as though they wasted the talent of a good actor. Is there a website for Michael Mahonen; if so, please let me and the rest of his U.S. fans know about it. Thanks.
