For every TV-into-movie success like The Fugitive, there are dozens of uninspired films like The Mod Squad. Happily--and surprisingly--this breezy update of the seminal '70s jiggle show falls into the first category, with Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore (who also produced), and Lucy Liu starring as the hair-tossing, fashion-setting, kung fu-fighting trio employed by the mysterious Charlie (voiced by the original Charlie, John Forsythe). When a high-tech programmer (Sam Rockwell) is kidnapped, the angels seek out the suspects, with the daffy Bosley (Bill Murray in a casting coup) in tow. A happy, cornball popcorn flick, Charlie's Angels is played for laughs with plenty of ribbing references to the old TV show as well as modern caper films like Mission: Impossible. McG, a music video director making his feature film debut (usually a death warrant for a movie's integrity), infuses the film with plenty of Matrix-style combat pyrotechnics, and the result is the first successful all-American Hong Kong-style action flick. Plenty of movies boast a New Age feminism that has their stars touting their sexuality while being their own women, but unlike something as obnoxious as Coyote Ugly, Angels succeeds with a positive spin on Girl Power for the new millennium (Diaz especially sizzles in her role of crack super agent/airhead blonde). From the send-up of the TV show's credit sequence to the outtakes over the end credits, Charlie's Angels is a delight. --Doug Thomas

Description

They're beautiful, they're brilliant and they work for Charlie. This is a sexy, high-octane update of the popular hit show, Natalie (Cameron Diaz), Dylan (Drew Barrymore) and Alex (Lucy Liu), alongside faithful lieutenant Bosley (Bill Murray), must foil an elaborate murder-revenge plot that could not only destroy individual privacy and corporate security worldwide, but spell the end of Charlie and his Angels.

3 out of 5 stars Unbelievable stupid !!!.......2007-01-28

Nice moves, nice girls, nice... what? Stupid flat jokes all around the movie.

I've seen many bad films over the years. I've also seen a few which have been made solely for financial success, without any creative ambition. Charlie's Angels is possibly the worst film i've ever seen.

It never actually seems to kick in. All we have is a montage of clips that don't seem to be in any particular order, all with countless short cutting techniques. McG seems to have forgotten that he is no longr making a pop video, and he has churned out a pop video of over 1 and a half hours. Was it to give the film a modern look? The only thing is succeeds in doing is making it appear over stylised and very self concious of the fact that it was going nowhere

A film with over 18 writers and 30 separate drafts of the script does not sound good from the start. Then there was the fact no ending was agreed upon when shooting started. What on earth were Columbia thinking? I can't understand why they hired McG, who has made such a disasterous start to his movie career, that he is being hailed as the worst director of all time. He simplified the already simple premise of the television series. He made every angel the same, and they were reduced to just being a smiling bunch of assets. It is ridiculous that Diaz, Barrymore and Liu agreed, and Barrymore even owned the rights. At the height of their careers, why did they choose to make such a shallow and degrading film towards women.

Bosworth is reduced to being the angels pimp. We may expect to have a few laughs from Bill Murray, well to be honest, we don't. I have rarely seem a film without one single redeeming feature to remember in hindsight. I can't think of one positive to take from Charlie's Angels. A bunch of big egos, and ridiculous ideas combined have made a shambles.

It would have been easy to make a happy and cheery movie from the subject matter, true it would not have been groundbreaking, but it is nearly impossible to make such a catastrophy from such a likable premise. Every teenage boys wet dream must surely have become their nightmare. Let's not even start on the sequel

3 out of 5 stars Silly Sexy Fun.......2007-01-19

I did not expect much when i put this DVD in the player and found myself surprised. No, this was not a great film by any means, but it was it silly, sexy fun. If you don't take it serious you are in for an ok 90 minutes.

Once again, Cameron Diaz shows why she is one of the hottest females in film. Her charecter is silly and comes off as a "dumb blonde", but she is oh so easy on the eyes.

3 out of 5 stars three and a half stars.......2007-01-13

Since dts doesn't play on all dvd players, and this disc automatically starts as dts, I have to remember to change it, which isn't convenient. I think that it is pathetic, and shouldn't be like this. But otherwise, the features are good, and so was the price, but I honestly think that the second one was better. B+

5 out of 5 stars The Angels are "RED HOT!".......2007-01-10

Charlies Angels out does its sequel Full Throttle what they should have done was cut it off with the first movie. The main characters Diaz, Berrymore, Lu are drop dead sexy plot makes sense, the dialoge is a little cheezy but remains witty and funny, the villans are sudutive and creepy, Bill Murrey is a great Bosely (I hope that's spelled right), the effects are fantastic, and the sound is great.

1 out of 5 stars Great movie if you're a misandrist.......2006-07-25

Lets see...in about the first five minutes:

1. A male flight attendant shows himself to be a total jerk
2. A male terrorist is easily overpowered by a woman wearing a mask
3. A male drill seargeant is knocked out cold with a single punch by a woman
4. A man is told by a woman that he's not fit for sex, and then promptly commits suicide

Notice a pattern here?

This movie is so misandrist* it makes Thelma and Louise look positively pro-male.

"So what? It's just a movie," you say? Well consider a movie that consistently put down and ridiculed women. Would that be okay? How about a movie that put down black people, unrelentingly portraying them as brutes, weaklings and mental deficients. Would that be okay? After all, it's "just entertainment."

Any guy who thinks this is a swell movie is too stupid to realize he's being insulted.

3 out of 5 stars Carbon copy Bond.......2005-11-28

The James Bond craze of the 1960s sent studios scurrying to secure the rights to other literary secret agents and detectives, and alter them to fit the successful 007 formula. Novelist H. C. McNeile's creation "Bulldog Drummond" was showcased in numerous mystery films in the '20s and '30s; for this 1966 spy movie, however, the urbane sleuth was reconfigured into a carbon copy of Bond.

Like the Bond films, there's a strong (and welcome) emphasis on female villainy, represented here in the shape-make that shapes-of blonde Elke Sommer and brunette Sylvia Koscina. They're stunning and, as such, the primary reasons to sit through this run-of-the-mill rehash of the kind of spy movie clichés that Mike Myers has made a cottage industry out of satirizing.

1 out of 5 stars Bond copy.......2004-09-02

This is one of several movies that cashed in on the Bond craze. This particular one is the worst of the copies. The low budget limits the exotic location shots and make the story very slow and dragging. There are none of the artistic photographic angles and effects common in the Bond films. It is about an insurance investigator who is looking into organized crime. The plot is totally devoid of any imagination or surprises. The one unusual feature is that some of the gratuitous violence is done by women who appear to be bored with their violent work. The women and their clothes were very flashy by standards of 40 years ago, but will have no romantic effects on healthy men of today. Notice how the women piled their hair on top of their head and then wrapped a turban around it.

4 out of 5 stars Entertaining But Not in the Same League as Bond.......2004-08-06

"Deadlier Than the Male" certainly copies the James Bond movie formula--and star Richard Johnson, reputedly once considered for the role, looks like a cross between Sean Connery and Martin Landau. Ultimately, the film lacks enough stylish excitement to be a true Bond contender, though its jazzy score and myriad locations are on par with many 1960s adventures. It may even remind some viewers a bit visually of Alfred Hitchcock's 1955 film, "To Catch a Thief." Johnson plays Hugh "Bulldog" Drummond, a well-tailored investigator who drives an expensive car, lives in a swinging but upscale London flat, and beds every woman he's interested in. If that sounds like Bond, the resemblance is understandable; Ian Fleming was likely inspired by the fictional Bulldog Drummond mysteries that preceded the Bond books. His quarry here is a two-woman assassination squad (luscious Elke Sommer and kooky Sylva Koscina) that is brutally knocking off contenders for a multi-million-dollar oil deal. Who is really behind the shady goings-on probably won't surprise you, but some of the kinky violence might, even if much here is tame by contemporary standards and already familiar to "The Avengers" fans. "Deadlier Than the Male" works best when it lets the assassins be cold-blooded and Johnson relax and be naturally smooth (as he was in "The Haunting" and numerous other films); it breaks down with its frequently desert-dry, sometimes racist humor and often lethargic, oddly-edited action sequences. Though a climax on a human-sized chessboard is visually impressive, trying to make complete sense of how and why the characters react to it might challenge you. Perhaps the biggest flaw, though, is that despite being suave and handsome, Johnson fails to bring sparks to the romantic scenes; as a female friend told me, "Now I see why he didn't get Bond."

3 out of 5 stars Fun but not Funny.......2003-08-12

Though I thought this film was pleasant enough, it ultimately was neither campy enough or action packed enough to ever get me too excited.

The plot feels second rate, the hero as played by Richard Johnson is about as bland as you get and any attempts at campy humor were too subtle to ever make me laugh.

All but serious student of 60's pop culture are probably going to feel a little disappointed after purchasing this film. It isn't nearly as good or fun as the cover illustration makes it seem.

5 out of 5 stars Swingin' Sixties action with Bulldog Drummond.......2003-07-29

Great fun. This is the BEST 60s James Bond [copy] and far surpasses Modesty Blaise, Matt Helm or the Derek Flint movies... not to mention countless other imitations. Great fight scenes, exotic locations, beautiful women, a pair of femme fatale assassins to die for and a nasty villain in the form of Nigel Green. Moves along at a nice pace, a little trashy but if you like The Avengers, The Saint and The Persuaders, You'll LOVE this!! This rare film, previously available only on badly done bootlegs, is now available in it's original 2.35:1 theatrical aspect ratio and it's a decent print as well. The title song by The Walker Brothers is great and far surpasses the awful, awful Madonna effort on "Die Another Day" (the latest 'Bond' offering). All in all, a worthwhile purchase, even though it's a bare-boned disc with absolutely NO extras...not even a trailer... it's a wonderful relic of the Swingin' Sixties. Buy it, before it's deleted!!

When a pal of detective John Shaft is murdered in a bombing (and $250,000 in cash turns up missing), New York's coolest private eye finds himself caught in the middle of a power struggle between black and white gangsters over the numbers racket in Queens. Directed by Gordon Parks (who does a brief cameo as a croupier in an illegal casino) and written by Ernest Tidyman (both of whom did the original Shaft), this film lacks the pacing of its progenitor. Roundtree is at his best when he's questioning a woman he's just met about a suspect while at the same time beguiling her into the sack (ah, those lazy, crazy days of the sexual revolution). The finale--a shootout in a cemetery, followed by a car-boat-helicopter chase through Queens and up the Harlem River--is preposterously drawn-out: Shaft, impervious to machine-gun fire, winds up tripping, spraining his ankle, and limping while running from the chopper; two shots later, he's sprinting like a halfback. Look for late Muhammad Ali trainer Drew Bundini Brown as a wise-cracking mobster. --Marshall Fine

Shaft's Big Score is a decent sequel, but the pacing is a bit slow at times. You can't beat The Theme From Shaft, but Big Score has got some tight music in it, keepin' it funky for the Private Dick whose a brotha man. Bumpy and Willie, my two favorite characters are back, and Bumpy is still tolerating Shaft while Bumpy maintains his hilarious disrepecting of him. About midway through is one of coolest scenes ever-Shaft is getting worked over backstage at a nightclub by Mob goons while the shots cut back and forth between busted jaws and writhing exotic dancers. The whole scene is scored with a heavily funky tune about the fuzz comin' 'round and what you gonna do when the mace comes down. Obviously, then you gotta just disrespect the Man and check this movie out.

5 out of 5 stars Good Film!!!.......2005-08-20

Can you dig it! Gotta love the action in this one. Better than the first one!!!

4 out of 5 stars Hot!.......2004-10-15

Of all of the movies that I own, I keep coming back to the Shaft movies. I wish that they could have made more of them. Don't listen to others, this one is just as good as the first one!

This is the typical story of the black man against the Italian-American(black blood is on them also..) for control of the ghetto. This one is good because it takes a look into black people with money in the early 70's. This film has action, sex, story, chases and a mob boss who doe snot mind you talking sh*t to him, but touch his food or matrial items and he is pissed!

If you like black exploitation films or if you are white and you like raw action films, get this. Shaft is Africa was a little different(could be why they never made another), but still ok. Shaft's Big Score should be your score.

2 out of 5 stars I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO SAY ABOUT THIS ONE.......2003-09-08

AFTER SEEING HOW ENTERTAINING THE ORIGINAL ''SHAFT'' WAS, I WAS DISSAPOINTED BY THIS SEQUEL. THIS TIME, SHAFT INVESTIGATES THE MURDER OF AN OLD FRIEND. SOMETHING THAT MADE THE FIRST FILM SO ENJOYABLE IS SIMPLY JUST MISSING FROM THIS ONE. THIS FILM IS MEDIOCRE AT TIMES, BUT THANKS TO RICHARD ROUNDTREE'S LIKABLE PERFORMANCE, AND THANKS TO THE EXPLOSIVE FINAL HALF HOUR, THIS FILM IS WATCHABLE. ONCE AGAIN, THE THEME SONG IS A HIGHLIGHT. FOLLOWED BY SHAFT IN AFRICA.

4 out of 5 stars Nu Yawk's Koolest.......2002-04-19

Back in prehistoric times, John Shaft was the role model if you was a nice guy, Priest from Superfly was the man if you was dreaming of livin' the life. Shaft's Big Score the followup to the Cool Black crimefighter series, is a slickened up version of the much more grittier original. Still, the bad ... gets off. The climatic chase has been "rescene" in dozens of later films from Hollywood and around the world and Mr. Parks still doesn't get the proper props for bringing to the screen a cultural icon that despite time and Singleton's "nephew" is still the Man. The late Reverend O.C. Smith is too countrified for singing a Big City theme but the powers the be didn't want to pay Isaac"Black Moses-Voice of ... Reason Chef from South Park" Hayes asking price. But there is a tease of what it might of been in the club scene where somebodys' girlfriend swirls to the early '70s funk. Never mind the usher pass the joint and hand me the gin Shaft Big Score is smokin' Jim.

4 out of 5 stars A HEAVENLY SPOOF..........2006-12-05

This is a funny, well executed spoof of the popular nineteen seventies series by the same name. At times, it is positively hilarious. Cameron Diaz showcases her comedic talents and is a standout. With that luminescent smile and perfect comedic timing, she is reminiscent of a young Goldie Hawn. The ever lovely and voluptuous bad girl, Drew Barrymore, is also very funny, as is the petite Lucy Liu. The droll Bill Murray is likewise perfect, and with the addition of John Forsythe, who played the original Charlie in the series, reprising his original role, the casting is flawless.

While the plot is, as it is with all spoofs, silly, it is, nonetheless, action packed and highly entertaining. Its tongue in cheek action scenes, as well as the sheer campiness of the movie, keep the viewer engaged. For sheer enjoyment, watch this film. You will not be disappointed.

3 out of 5 stars This is film tries too hard to be can be campy........2005-08-02

Attorneys Angels has everything in it except the kitchen sink. There are fake disguises; there's Bill Murray and even the Matrix. So, why not five-stars? While it seems like not only is the kitchen sink missing, but also so is the scripting, any sense of pathos, or attempt to be entertaining. Ah, you ask, "what about action that passes at the time?" well that's why this is not a to star review. I would say more but I do not want to give away the few surprises that this movie has.

3 out of 5 stars good popcorn movie.......2005-07-24

Charlie's Angels had great sound and I didn't notice any pixilation. The only real downside, and it kept me from giving a higher rating, is that it lacked a scene selection. This has to be a must for any PSP movie

OscarÂ(r) winner* "Peter Finch is excellent" (Judith Crist) and Golden GlobeÂ(r) winner** Rita Tushingham is "entirely captivating" (The Hollywood Reporter) in this bittersweetstory of an extraordinary romance. Beautifully scripted, brilliantly directed and superbly acted, this "charming and rueful movie" (The New Yorker) "goes straight to the heart" (The Herald Examiner)! He barely noticed her the first time they met but with one glance, this naïve Irish farm girl drew him to her side. She's not beautiful, not sophisticated, and far too young for a man of his years, but she has torn him from his solitude and set his soul on fire. Yet now, even as she moves into his Dublin home and he commits to her, he knows he can never fulfill her girlishnotions of love nor satisfy the yearning in those haunting, hungry eyes. *1976: Actor, Network **1962: New Star of the Year, A Taste of Honey

I did not like this movie because it was very dull. All it was was kissing, books and dramatic music. I like some black and white movies but not this one. Peter finch is better in kidnapped! by walt disney.

5 out of 5 stars One of the best Films-Ever!.......2003-12-05

I saw this first in 1975 and still remember the haunting scenes with Rita Tushingham. She plays sensitively yet without maudlin excess as the young single woman pregnant with her Jamaican boyfriend's baby, supported by her local friends including a Gay neighbor. An honest view of life in 60's Manchester,as well as the film debut of an excellent actress.

5 out of 5 stars Kitchen Sink, Glistening and Brilliant.......2002-11-27

GIRL WITH GREEN EYES is a Woodfall film, one of those slice-of-life-in-the-UK pictures produced by Tony Richardson in the 60's, Britain's answer to the French New Wave. All are generally worthwhile views; this one is marvelous, with wonderful dialogue by Edna O'Brien from her novel, THE LONELY GIRL. Frequently laugh-out-loud funny and also quietly touching, not the easiest combination to pull off, but managed beautifully here. Rita Tushingham and Lynn Redgrave are simple and simply perfect as the country girls trying to make a go of life in Dublin, while Peter Finch strikes the proper note of bruised, reluctant romanticism as the object of Rita's pursuit. Almost forty years old, GIRL's as fresh as paint, could have been made yesterday. Tonic, rich and rewarding.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful artifact from the mid-Sixties.......2002-02-16

This is a very stylish story of a young Irish girl's affair with an older man. Part sad, part whimsical, and all around very refreshing, the film winds up being more light and fun than dark and tragic, as one might expect.

The film is wonderfully photographed in glorious black and white, both in a documentary format and a dash of a somewhat "New Wave" style. It's an interesting mixture, anyway. In fact, the entire film appears to have been shot on location in Dublin and the surrounding countryside, lending even further creditbility to the documentray styling.

The well-written dialogue is full of engaging double-meanings, and may remind one of "The Prisoner", as the lines can be both cryptic, yet very deep and telling. The actors all deliver, too.

The film is very much a product of its time, and captures the feeling of what it must have been like to be a youth in 1963 Dublin. It very much conveys the atmosphere of a "slice of life" during the era, as the young girl comes of age.

This is a little-known gem that aspiring film students may find inspirational. Lynn Redgrave's debut film.

2 out of 5 stars Unsatisfactory Rendering Of A Novel Of The Same Stripe........2006-02-18

This somewhat less than rewarding production is based closely upon a novel by Harriette Ashbrook: "The Murder Of Steven Kester", to a point of its inclusion of substantial swatches of Ashbrook's stilted dialogue, but since the original book remains safely confined within a rather narrow spectrum of sleuthing utilized by the English writer, it can be no surprise that the film is also dull and generally predictable. Action opens briskly with assistant director Melville Shyer, who also contributes the script, effectively leading a congregation of extras during a lively costume party sequence, this festivity organized at the home of wealthy Steven Kester by his granddaughter Jean (Shirley Grey) as a diversion to facilitate her unobstructed elopement with beau Cliff Miller (William Bakewell). Here the pace of the film begins to flag as journeyman director Richard Thorpe mishandles the tempo following discovery of Steven Kester's corpse, decorated with stab wounds, and a homicide investigation then begins under the supervision of Captain (or Chief, at times Inspector) Crofton (John Wray) who fails to acknowledge any recognizable form of correct investigative police procedures as he browbeats a large contingent of available suspects. Needless to report, many of these latter have apparent motives to have committed the slaying, and if Crofton neglects one of them, a meddlesome crime novelist, Michael Tracy (Charles Starrett), a recurring lead character as "Spike Tracy" in the publications of Ashbrook, is on hand to abet the detective. Viewers, however, will not require similar assistance, due to the story hardly being abstruse enough to challenge most armchair detectives. Production values for this low tier Chesterfield Pictures item are expectedly paltry, but some performances from players are to be valued, in particular a brief turn by Lloyd Whitlock, and neatly developed characterizations from Grey and Dorothy Revier as female suspects. Director Thorpe, ever respectful of his cast members, and especially of those whom are stage trained, leads with a loose rein.

3 out of 5 stars Where were you during the third dance?.......2005-03-18

A rich 70-year-old man is murdered during a costume party he is hosting and the killer is sought.
GREEN EYES is an old (1934) murder mystery that talks way too much and flashbacks way too little. It was directed by the competent Richard Thorpe, who's unfortunate claim-to-fame is that he was the first director on THE WIZARD OF OZ, fired a few weeks after shooting began when his work proved unsatisfactory.
Among the suspects are the murdered man's granddaughter Jean Kester, played by pretty young Shirley Grey. The 20-something Grey would drop out of pictures in a couple of years, presumably against her wishes. Another suspect is wise-acre crime novelist Michael Tracy, played by Charles Starrett, who would appear in scores of b-movies up through the 1950s, most notably as the Durango Kid in many b-westerns.
GREEN EYES is an okay mystery that would have benefited from brisker pacing, a bit less dialogue and some less obvious `surprises' - I'm no great shakes at such things and I figured a thing or two out way too early. The transfer print quality is fair, with some wear evident on almost every frame. Some vital dialogue is missing, lost when the film jumps because of missing film frames.

4 out of 5 stars These eyes so green, I can stare for a thousand years.......2005-02-02

The thirties was a dynamic decade where films turned form stilted and simple to dynamic with depth. This is a film that was made in the transition. At first you think it is too simple with a hokey sound track. Then you get wrapped up in the story and find that this is a great short and to the point who done it. The film is black and white. It sort of has that Charlie Chan feel.

The story is a screen play that has the look of a stage play. It is based on a novel "The Murder of Steven Kester" By H. Ashbrook. Jean Kester is in the process if eloping with Michael Tracy. So people will not follow them they cut the phone lines and everyone's distributor wires. Now Jean's ruthless grandfather is found disposed of. It looks mighty suspicious. The house is full of people that were invited to a costume party. The police gat little cooperation from any of the guests. Before the day is over it will look like everyone had motive and opportunity. We may even find a few more deaths.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars A Great First Film.......2006-07-02

When it comes to independent films, as my experience has taught me, you get a lot of good and you can get a lot of bad. I've been lucky so far that with my limited experience when it comes to receiving independents for my reviewing pleasure that I haven't actually come across any stinkers so far - but that doesn't mean I don't keep my eye on IFC and have my mind blown with pretension every once in a while. So far I count myself as a pretty lucky guy, receiving such works as Expiration (a Canadian based drama you can find reviewed on my website if you look hard enough, shameless plug) and now Green Eyes for Anastice. With a low budget first time film crew, it seems you have one of two options to follow through with. Either go out, guns blazing, tackling the world and dealing with either the most difficult material possible or just shooting for the sky and making the film you want to make despite all the difficulties - OR you're the type to make another genre flick everyone forgets about after watching, or should I say that everyone prays they can forget after watching. Seriously guys, serial killers stalking teenage girls and keg toting frat boys is sadly what we call hackneyed material; just a word of warning for any young filmmakers who might stumble upon this. So, what route did Michael R. Steinbeck and Nicholas Richards take? Well, let's just say there are no masked killers hunting buxom co-eds during the course of this film... as much as that may disappoint some of my readers. I can only imagine that these guys are either the types to go through with their plans without contemplating the facts and means of what they need to do; or quite simply, and forgive me for being brash, they just have the biggest balls I've seen from independent filmmakers in a while. I could be wrong, it's just me, but putting myself in the place of an independent filmmaker with a likely limited budget and making my first feature length film - I see myself playing the safe game. Wearing the padding, using the kiddie foam-ball instead of the hard painful one - and overall trying to hide any weak points in my game whatsoever. Probably shoot a film about some internet geek who sits around typing at his computer whenever he's not at work all day; something I know well and won't require a lot out of me. Taking the imagination out of it. This is actually advice I read from a lot of those guys who give scriptwriting advice around the web and such; I wonder how many of those guys would advise you to make a sci-fi tinged time travelling film full of all kinds of special FX shots and tricky camera effects, that deals exclusively with a lot of thought provoking questions about relationships and is a completely emotional experience. I can't imagine many. So, if the odds really were stacked against these guys as I'm thinking they probably were, all I can do is commend them because they turned out one really special film for a first time effort.

Even when reading the synopsis for the feature, a film about a man travelling with a time machine to save his dead wife, it just seems like a large project. Not exactly material you're going to expect to be given justice in the digital format without ILM providing the FX and Spielberg in the Producer's chair. Yet, here it is and here I am. GEA may not have the budget of such gigantic films out there; but it more than makes up for that in heart and innovative ideas - something Hollywood appears to have given up on long ago. For those who don't know, the basic plot tells the tale of Adam - a young man, fresh into his marriage with the woman he loves (a lovely young woman named Anastice, as the title may lead you to believe), who is taken from him after she is killed in a hit and run. He stumbles through life for around a year unable to cope with her being gone, taking to drinking and generally just moping around. Things seem to get worse when he finds his father has been picked up at the hospital for loitering and is diagnosed with alzheimer disease. The doctor recommends Adam's father be treated, but the only way he can afford the treatment is to sell his father's home and so he does. Adam then begins moving all of his father's old things into his own home; but ultimately stumbles upon one very interesting possession. A clear ball-like object; encasing assorted gears, gyros, clocks, knobs and buttons. On one side is the current date, and being that Adam's father has no answers since he barely remembers even his own son, Adam begins with an experiment. Changing the date on the ball from the current date, to the day when his wife was struck down. As you might now expect; this isn't just your average clear sphere, but a time machine. What then begins is a snowball of things that escalate and pile upon each other. Will Adam save his wife, will their life be everything they always wanted and will Adam have the strength to just let things go and will he let the chips fall where they may? GEA builds upon that final question all the way through and does everything in it's powers to make you think, think and think. Not just about how banana peels can drive a flux capacitor, but about real questions for each and every one of us. For those of us in relationships, you may find the film ringing true in the details involving the drama amidst Adam's relationship and all the things we do for those we love - and just how tempting it would be to give that person everything they ever wanted - and what is the difference between what we need and what we want. It isn't all philosophy all the way around; but Green Eyes will make you think and as the conclusion comes around, that will be all you can do. So many questions and ideas are thrown about in those final minutes that my brain was in a whirlwind and although some audiences might ask for a clearer description of events - I like to think that with more viewings, more possibilities will open to me. The imagination and ideas put to use in the film are just amazing, particularly the idea that if we travel back and forth through time it's not even so much the problems that will arise from our actions (like leaving yourself a stockpile of money) that really trouble the travellers - it's their memories. The idea that once you travel back and forth through time, that your memories of the past as you know are at once in combat with your new set of memories from the past that you helped to change to create your current present. See, it gets confusing, but give the flick a whirl and see if it at least isn't worth giving a shot. The film overall far succeeded my highest hopes - and that's no hype.

So yes, I think it's fair to go out on a limb and say I enjoyed the film and I look forward to anything that might come from these young filmmakers in the future. Sure, some performances could have used some sharpening - but overall I think for a production of this magnitude most everyone really shined in their parts. Nicholas Richards and Samantha Porps both did a wonderful job with their performances, making it believable for the audience that these two really are married and that they really do love one another. I'm not going to go comparing the performances here to those of On The Waterfront or anything like that; but this sure isn't Troma and these kids sure did believe in what they were doing and I think they have a lot to be proud of. Respect for Richards for both putting in a relaxed and nice performance in the lead as well as giving the film some very nice visuals as the director of photography - and he really did do a nice job and gave the film a very loose feel but still managed some very interesting lighting and shots. Respect to Samantha Porps for such a cute little Wisconsin accent too! Okay, I kid, but it is a nice accent and she did a great job in the film - especially when she had to morph her character back and forth into something totally different on several occasions. You can't ask for much more out of an actress and I wish the best for all of these talents. I see on the Drop Shadow Productions website that they already have future projects getting ready between both Richards and Steinbeck and I just hope I can catch a glimpse of these films as well when they come along. Thank you to Michael R. Steinbeck and the whole production crew for the film and Drop Shadow Productions for introducing me to their film, I'm sure the world will be seeing more of them in the future.

5 out of 5 stars enjoyable film.......2006-05-28

This movie explores the question we all try to answer, how would my life be different if....? Every day we question our decisions and sometimes wish we could change something. In this movie, the main character gets to do exactly that with the help of a time machine. Although some people would try to change the lottery numbers or pick the winning horse, the main character only wants his old life back. He doesn't try to marry a supermodel, he tries to make his wife happier. Although it is categorized as a sci-fi drama, at the heart I feel this movie is a love story. It does not have the multimillion dollar budgets of Hollywood movies but what it lacks in money, the actors and director make up for in heart and genuinely enjoying their work. I look forward to the next project by this director.

Customer Reviews:

2 out of 5 stars this is a flat 2-D version of a 3-D movie, so skip it........2003-12-31

EYES OF THE WEREWOLF is available on VHS in the original 3-D format, so why is the DVD flat only? The movie is pretty good for amateur stuff, but they cheated by using some flat 2-D insert closeups of the wolf make-up, which really stand out as 99% of the film is 3-D.

2 out of 5 stars Pure and Glorious CHEESE.......2003-08-12

Why is it that werewolf movies always find their ways into the hands of someone that has no money to make a movie? Don't get me wrong, there are excellent werewolf movies out there that had budgets to work with. It's just that there are twice as many werewolf flicks shot on a handheld camcorder with cheesy costumes and dialog. This movie is no exception, it must be difficult to shoot, edit, star in, and creat costumes and effects on a small budget, so I have to give this movie some slack. It is a great idea! The story line is very unique and worth a real turn as a movie although the beginning is almost like a comic book superhero genesis than a werewolf's beginnings but, it was easy to shoot I am sure. They tried their hand at a decent transformation but, with gurus like Bottin and Baker having shown the world their skills with makeup, the bar is raised to almost unreachable levels as are the expectations of any schmo that likes a good monster transformation. I liked this movie, it's a shame that it didn't have more invested!
