Description
JACKIE and MATT, a young loving couple, are looking for an affordable apartment in New York City. After much frustration, Matt meets a charming elderly couple who own a posh brownstone occupied by several other elderly couples. Surprisingly, they've got a vacant unit - which is spectacular and insanely cheap. For Jackie and Matt this seems too good to be true. Because it is. Strange things begin to happen. Jackie's having terrifying dreams. Mysterious screams are coming from the basement. The senior couples start to look weak and feeble, their health deteriorating. The only other young couple in the building disappears into thin air, after which, the seniors' health and vitality are suddenly restored. Jackie investigates and discovers that this is not the first young couple to have disappeared from the building. The elderly couple begins to pry into Jackie's life, manipulating Matt against Jackie, and wreaking havoc on her relationship. In the fight for her and Matt's life, Jackie discovers that those screams coming from the basement aren't stray animals...but young people being drained of their "glow."

Description

David Deida's first DVD, Function, Flow, & Glow: The Art of Sexual Yoga was recorded live by students at Ken Wilber's Integral Institute in February 2005.

This Integral Institute student production is the only video recording made of David Deida in the last several years and is full of his latest insights, musings, and explorations.

In this rare video release David Deida goes deep into the meaning of sexuality as a living art and practical yoga. Deida covers a wide range of related topics such as:

• The crucial differences between the practices of therapy, yoga, and spiritual disciplines
• How to skillfully channel bodily pleasure, in yourself and in your partner
• The relation of masculine and feminine, as David uses those terms, to Ken Wilber's Integral model
• The yogic art of courtship-authentic relating to a new romantic partner
• What to do with yearning-for a man, a woman, or the Kosmos
And much more!

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Living Life as Art.......2006-10-23

David's vibrant personality comes across very effectively on this rare video release from an Integral Life Practice workshop in February 2005.

If you have read David's books and want to find out how he conveys his knowledge to an audience, then this explores the physical comedy, insightful participation with the audience and openhearted expression of David Deida.

On this DVD, David Deida effectively demonstrates feminine and masculine energy, explains the difference between therapy, yoga and what he is teaching and then encourages audience participation. You can actually see the invisible taking shape as one person remains closed and another experiences a state of being more openhearted and connected with the world.

If you are looking for specific practices to enhance your love life, I'd recommend "The Enlightened Sex Manual" because it goes into much more depth and the book and the CD set work well together. "Dear Lover" and "The Way of the Superior Man" are also essential if you want to fully experience David's teachings.

The way David teaches and the way David writes show very different sides of his personality (serious poet vs. spiritual comedian), although to fully understand what he is teaching, you almost need to also see him speaking or hear him talking on the CD set.

David's teachings go beyond sexuality and can enhance your daily life as you move through constant changes and adapt moment to moment in the dance of life. If you read all of David's books, put Instant Enlightenment on your list for 2007.

I really enjoyed seeing David teaching because he is not only wildly funny, you could truly feel how open his heart is and listening to him speak is always an enlightening experience.

4 out of 5 stars Not the best, but still worth buying.......2007-05-15

I wish the complete full seasons were released rather than the Best of editions but this one is still worth checking out. The other reviewer pointed out the matches to you, but there are some extra features that you might enjoy like clips from the GLOW Games of Summer which was hosted by David McLane and Susie Spirit (sporting a cast after breaking her elbow...really wish they'd show us that match again!). If you recall thats when the first season gals competed against each other in the pizza eating contest, the escalator races, the tug of war, arm wrestling, etc... Another feature is the full length music video of the Bad Girls performing "Nasty and Mean". However, I was disappointed that they only showed a few seconds of the Good Girls music video "Good Girls Don't". What were the dvd producers thinking not including a full segment of the GLOW girls wearing bikinis at the Riviera Hotel poolside?!?! There is also a small compilation of Chainsaw and Spike's greatest moments in the wrestling ring. To the dvd producers, give us the complete full season box sets!

    2 out of 5 stars poor release.......2007-03-11

Wow, what a fun film. It's such a "New York" story. Growing up on the UWS there were so many of these Bat & Bar Mitvah's. Some as big as a small wedding! This film is a great comedy about the whole party scene.

Mt. Fiji vs Star and Beastie

This DVD was EXACTLY what I was looking for! Finally a GLOW release on some of the girls I remember as a kid! I had never seen seasons 1&2 growing up so when I bought the earlier shows I was disapointed! It seemed like a completly differn't show then what I had remembered! If you are a season 3&4 year fan this DVD is for you! You can't complain about something that has not been altered in anyway! What you saw as a kid is what you get on this one! I would have given it 10 stars! Way to go Babe/Ursula you are the living Barbie Doll I remember! Thanks and keep season 3&4 alive! FOREVER!

        Sincerely,

        1 out of 5 stars GLOWING DISAPPOINTMENT.......2007-03-16

I just received the GLOW: 20th Anniversary DVD in the mail today and I am VERY disappointed. I watched GLOW from seasons 1-4 and was thrilled when rumors started up sveral years ago about a new GLOW series. I think the fans deserved a better anniversary DVD than the one released. Basically it's a DVD of one episode from season 4, I think. Nothing new here. I thought an anniversary DVD would be packed with clips, interviews, etc. Unless you don't have copies of season 4 on VHS somewhere, don't order this. It's not worth it. Hopefully...GLOW will be released the way it should be in a season format (GLOW: Season 1 for $60.00 or whatever, featuring all episodes from each season). I know that fans would pay for them...especially seasons 1 & 2. What a truly nice and respectful way this idea would be to honor true GLOW fans. Please stop insulting our intelligence with low-rate DVDs of a show we once loved. Give us what we want...what we deserve!

        2 out of 5 stars It's a Huge Disappointment, Ursula.......2007-02-01

Ursula Hayden (who played Babe the Farmer's Daughter) has purchased the rights to the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling and is trying to revive the franchise. As a huge fan of the show, I thought this was good news. However, based on this DVD I'm not gonna hold out much hope for its return:

Dear Ursula (because I know she's going to be reading these reviews),

If you want to revive interest in GLOW, this isn't the way to do it. You don't start by lying to the small band of hardcore fans that kept interest in the show alive. This is not "The Very Best of Glow." You really ought to have called it "Some Random Episode from Season Four"! It is not two hours long. Even with the "bonus" matches in the "features" section it clocks in at under an hour. It shows a pretty blatant disregard for the fans, if you ask me.

And Season Four? I know that these were your years on the show, but these were the episodes that killed the series! Market shows from Seasons One and Two, focus on the wrestling, lose the campy comedy bits, and drop any episode with the annoying commentary from Motor Mouth Morgan. Do that and you'll be golden.

        Thanks for listening,

A rabid GLOW fan (Ashley Cartier rules!!!)

        1 out of 5 stars GLOW Vol.1.......2006-12-23

Let's start by clearing up an error that this web site (and a few others) made. This DVD is not 2hours long as listed above. This is one episode of GLOW, which ran an hour long, and is about 45 minutes with the commercials taken out. Add in the two short bonus matches, and an advertisement for another wrestling video, and you have about an hour of footage.
I do think GLOW was very unique. The wrestling was decent, and the characters were pretty creative. The skits they did were kind of funny too. Some of these ladies were pretty hot. This is definetly something that any collecter of wrestling footage would like to have, but due to the short length of it, you would probably only want to get it if you can get it at a good deal.
I really think they should have put two episodes on here, though. Afterall, one of the main advatages to making DVD's these days, instead of VHS, is that you can fit more footage on it, without hurting the video quality. I'll probably get Vol.2 eventually, but only if I'm able to get it at a relatively low price.

Jackie's having terrifying dreams. Mysterious screams are coming from the basement. The senior couples start to look weak and feeble, their health deteriorating. The only other young couple in the building disappears into thin air, after which, the seniors' health and vitality are suddenly restored. 5 out of 5 stars A True Masterpiece.......2005-02-18

What did I oike about this movie? it would be easier to say what I didn't like: nothing! The conflict might be popular, but that's because it's so attractive and creepy; it didn't diminish the quality of the story any less. I was on the edge of my seat, screaming at the screen, my heart beating like a flying bumblebee! The suspense to see who if anyone survived almost killed me! This is true horror that relies on the story and the characters to scare the audience rather than flashy special effects. A must see for... everyone, with a strong stomach for the scene when Jackie uncovers a truck full of bodies.

4 out of 5 stars PORTIA IN PERIL.......2005-02-10

Portia de Rossi is the main reason to see THE GLOW. This radiant young actress (Arrested Development, Scream 2) dominates the standard plotting and mediocre direction, and infuses the movie with a sense of peril and urgency. She plays a young woman, whose fitness conscious husband (the ubiquitous Dean Cain) has been mugged and robbed in Central Park. Assistance is offered by a trio of elderly people brimming with uncommon energy and social etiquette. They take Cain home to call his wife, and when she arrives, lo and behold they have made them an offer on a beautiful apartment in the building they all live in. Most of the tenants are elderly, except for another young couple who later on mysteriously vacate the premises. This opens the plot to something unusual going on with these seemingly harmless seniors. Since the viewer has read the description on the box, we all know what's going on. Question is, can Ms. DeRossi convince anyone else?
DeRossi and Cain make a nice couple, although he seems sometimes a little wooden. The writers also don't point out why Cain's sexual drive has gone on vacation, but we can pretty much guess the "vitamins" and the "pink drink" have something to do with it. Cain also doesn't question how his wife is pregnant when he hasn't had sex with her for weeks. Why hasn't anyone else looked into the other missing couples? Conveniently, they were all "parentless children," but didn't they have friends and coworkers? Ah, what the heck...I have to admit that even with the gaps and stuff, I found myself involved and wanting the old fogies to get their just desserts. Portia is due credit for keeping me involved. And it was great seeing such veteran actors as Hal Linden, Dina Merrill, Grace Zabriskie and Joseph Campanella playing such evil characters.
For a Lifetime TV movie, it's not that bad, folks.

        5 out of 5 stars Good Plot.......2004-11-01

This was quite an adventure packed movie. Its focus is around a couple, Jackie and Matt, who find an great apartment in NYC, too good to be true? You bet it is. In this apartment house it seems most of of the tenants are old, and the young ones don't stay around very long. Strange things begin to happen, and people begin to disappear. Jackie knows something is very wrong.
The movie hinges around the elderly taking the 'glow' from young peoples blood. Of course they have to kill them to do this.
Not all the main characters make it out alive in the ending, which I always hate, but still this was a sit on the edge of your seat show.
I enjoyed it, great to watch on a Saturday afternoon.
        Shirley Johnson

The Glow (Craig R. Baxley, 2002)

The idea of turning Brooks Stanwood's wonderful novel The Glow into a film has been kicking around Hollywood for almost a quarter-century; the first paperback releases of the book had "Soon to be a major motion picture!" on them. As usual, that didn't pan out...until 2002.

Would that we had waited another quarter century rather than get a Lifetime Original MovieĀ™. Not only that, but a Lifetime Original Movie directed by Craig Baxley, whose feature film record was so bad it's a miracle anyone lets him work in Hollywood at all.

Baxley (director of such brilliant cinematic fare as "I" Come in Peace, Stone Cold, and Deep Red-and fear, my brothers and sisters, for he has been put in charge of the remake of The Kingdom) takes a script by Stanwood and equally good teleplay artist Gary Sherman (Dead and Buried, Vice Squad) and comes up with, well, bupkus. Jackie (Portia de Rossi) and Matt (Dean Cain) Lawrence are typical struggling-to-get-by New Yorkers. Matt, on his morning run, is mugged in Central Park, and a trio of septuagenarians comes to his rescue. By the end of the day, they've offered him a cheap apartment on the Upper East Side. The couple move in, and all goes well. Or so they think; Jackie starts becoming suspicious that things are not all as they seem.

The cast, to give credit where credit is due, do the best they can with what they've got. Others on the docket include Hal Linden, Dina Merrill, Grace Zabriskie, Sabrina Grdevich (whose face may not look familiar, but Sailor Moon fans know her as the voice of Sailor Pluto), and a host of others. All of them work relatively well within the parameters of what they've got, which is zilch. Baxley misses hundreds of small details which could have been used to build suspense, sets up silly situations (hiding under the stairs only works when the people you're hiding from can't see under the stairs!), things like that. All of them add up to, well, your typical Lifetime Original Movie; slapped together without any thought to the details of filmmaking.

Brooks Stanwood (actually, a pseudonym for a husband-and-wife writing team, both of whom work in the publishing industry) is still alive, and still producing. With any luck, the authors have been shielded from seeing what their work hath wrought. Were there any justice in the world, the rest of us would have been shielded from it as well. *

We saw this artist's works in Sedona AZ and really liked them. However the $3000 price tag on our favorite piece was a little steep. We ran into this DVD online while investigating the artist. It's a beautiful collection of his works, set to some relaxing music. We play it on our big screen regularly. It continually loops and is great for company. For $25, you can't beat it.
